1 O r Kore, figlio di Itshar, figlio di Kehath, figlio di Levi, insieme con Dathan e Abiram, figlio di Eliab, e On, figlio di Peleth, figli di Ruben.

And Korah, son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, taketh both Dathan and Abiram sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth, sons of Reuben,

2 s i levarono davanti a Mosè, assieme ad alcuni altri dei figli d'Israele, duecentocinquanta principi dell'assemblea, membri nominati del consiglio, uomini in vista.

and they rise up before Moses, with men of the sons of Israel, two hundred and fifty, princes of the company, called of the convention, men of name,

3 E ssi si radunarono contro Mosè e contro Aaronne, e dissero loro: «Avete oltrepassato i limiti, perché tutta l'assemblea è santa, ciascuno di essi, e l'Eterno è in mezzo a loro; perché dunque vi innalzate sopra l'assemblea dell'Eterno?».

and they are assembled against Moses and against Aaron, and say unto them, `Enough of you! for all the company -- all of them holy, and in their midst Jehovah; and wherefore do ye lift yourselves up above the assembly of Jehovah?'

4 A ll'udire questo, Mosè si prostrò con la faccia a terra;

And Moses heareth, and falleth on his face,

5 p oi parlò a Kore e a tutta la sua gente, dicendo: Domani mattina l'Eterno mostrerà chi è suo e chi è santo, e lo farà avvicinare a sè; farà avvicinare a sè colui che egli ha scelto.

and he speaketh unto Korah, and unto all his company, saying, `Morning! -- and Jehovah is knowing those who are his, and him who is holy, and hath brought near unto Him; even him whom He doth fix on He bringeth near unto Him.

6 F ate questo: prendete dei turiboli tu Kore e tutta la tua gente;

This do: take to yourselves censers, Korah, and all his company,

7 d omani mettetevi dentro del fuoco e ponetevi sopra dell'incenso davanti all'Eterno; e colui che l'Eterno avrà scelto sarà santo. Avete oltrepassato i limiti, figli di Levi!».

and put in them fire, and put on them perfume, before Jehovah to-morrow, and it hath been, the man whom Jehovah chooseth, he the holy one; -- enough of you, sons of Levi.'

8 M osè disse poi a Kore: Ora ascoltate, o figli di Levi!

And Moses saith unto Korah, `Hear ye, I pray you, sons of Levi;

9 E forse poca cosa per voi che il DIO d'Israele vi abbia appartati dall'assemblea d'Israele e vi abbia fatto avvicinare a sè per compiere il servizio del tabernacolo dell'Eterno e per stare davanti all'assemblea e servire loro?

is it little to you that the God of Israel hath separated you from the company of Israel to bring you near unto Himself, to do the service of the tabernacle of Jehovah, and to stand before the company to serve them? --

10 E gli ha fatto avvicinare a sè te e tutti i tuoi fratelli, figli di Levi con te. Ma ora vorreste avere anche il sacerdozio?

yea, He doth bring thee near, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee -- and ye have sought also the priesthood!

11 P er questo tu e tutta la tua gente vi siete radunati contro l'Eterno. E chi è Aaronne perché mormoriate contro di lui?».

Therefore, thou and all thy company who are met against Jehovah; and Aaron, what he, that ye murmur against him?'

12 A llora Mosè mandò a chiamare Dathan e Abiram, figli di Eliab; ma essi dissero: Noi non saliremo.

And Moses sendeth to call for Dathan and for Abiram sons of Eliab, and they say, `We do not come up;

13 f orse poca cosa l'averci fatto uscire da un paese dove scorre latte e miele, per farci morire nel deserto, perché tu voglia dominare su di noi?

is it little that thou hast brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey to put us to death in a wilderness that thou also certainly makest thyself prince over us?

14 I noltre non ci hai condotti in un paese dove scorre latte e miele e non ci hai dato in eredità campi e vigne! Vuoi tu cavare gli occhi a questa gente? Noi non saliremo».

Yea, unto a land flowing with milk and honey thou hast not brought us in, nor dost thou give to us an inheritance of field and vineyard; the eyes of these men dost thou pick out? we do not come up.'

15 A llora Mosè si adirò forte e disse all'Eterno: Non accettare la loro oblazione; io non ho preso da costoro neppure un asino e non ho fatto torto ad alcuno di loro».

And it is very displeasing to Moses, and he saith unto Jehovah, `Turn not Thou unto their present; not one ass from them have I taken, nor have I afflicted one of them.'

16 P oi Mosè disse a Kore: Tu e tutta la tua gente trovatevi domani davanti all'Eterno, tu e loro con Aaronne;

And Moses saith unto Korah, `Thou and all thy company, be ye before Jehovah, thou, and they, and Aaron, to-morrow;

17 e ciascuno di voi prenda il suo turibolo, vi metta dentro dell'incenso e porti ciascuno il suo turibolo davanti all'Eterno; saranno duecentocinquanta turiboli. Anche tu ed Aaronne porterete ciascuno il vostro turibolo.

and take ye each his censer, and ye have put on them perfume, and brought near before Jehovah, each his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; and thou and Aaron, each his censer.'

18 E ssi dunque presero ciascuno il suo turibolo, vi misero dentro del fuoco, vi posero sopra dell'incenso e si fermarono all'ingresso della tenda di convegno con Mosè e Aaronne.

And they take each his censer, and put on them fire, and lay on them perfume, and they stand at the opening of the tent of meeting, with Moses and Aaron.

19 K ore convocò tutta l'assemblea contro di loro all'ingresso della tenda di convegno; e la gloria dell'Eterno apparve a tutta l'assemblea.

And Korah assembleth against them all the company unto the opening of the tent of meeting, and the honour of Jehovah is seen by all the company.

20 A llora l'Eterno parlò a Mosè e ad Aaronne, dicendo:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

21 S eparatevi da questa assemblea e io li consumerò in un attimo.

`Be ye separated from the midst of this company, and I consume them in a moment;'

22 M a essi si prostrarono con la faccia a terra e dissero: «O Dio, DIO degli spiriti di ogni carne! Poiché un sol uomo ha peccato, dovresti tu adirarti contro tutta l'assemblea?.»

and they fall on their faces, and say, `God, God of the spirits of all flesh -- the one man sinneth, and against all the company Thou art wroth!'

23 A llora l'Eterno parlò a Mosè, dicendo:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

24 « Parla all'assemblea e di': "Allontanatevi dalle vicinanze della dimora di Kore, di Dathan e di Abiram"».

`Speak unto the company, saying, Go ye up from round about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.'

25 M osè quindi si levò e andò da Dathan e da Abiram; e gli anziani d'Israele lo seguirono.

And Moses riseth, and goeth unto Dathan and Abiram, and the elders of Israel go after him,

26 E gli quindi parlò all'assemblea, dicendo: Allontanatevi dalle tende di questi uomini malvagi e non toccate nulla di ciò che loro appartiene per non essere consumati in tutti i loro peccati.

and he speaketh unto the company, saying, `Turn aside, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and come not against anything that they have, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.'

27 C osì essi si allontanarono dalle vicinanze della dimora di Kore, di Dathan di Abiram. Dathan e Abiram uscirono e si fermarono all'ingresso delle loro tende con le loro mogli, i loro figli e i loro piccoli.

And they go up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan and Abiram, from round about, and Dathan, and Abiram have come out, standing at the opening of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their infants.

28 A llora Mosè disse: Da questo conoscerete che l'Eterno mi ha mandato per fare tutte queste opere e che non ho agito di mio arbitrio.

And Moses saith, `By this ye do know that Jehovah hath sent me to do all these works, that not from my own heart;

29 S e questa gente muore come muoiono tutti gli uomini, se la loro sorte è la sorte comune a tutti gli uomini, l'Eterno non mi ha mandato;

if according to the death of all men these die -- or the charge of all men is charged upon them -- Jehovah hath not sent me;

30 m a se l'Eterno fa una cosa nuova, se la terra apre la sua bocca e li ingoia con tutto ciò che loro appartiene, ed essi scendono vivi nello Sceol

and if a strange thing Jehovah do, and the ground hath opened her mouth and swallowed them, and all that they have, and they have gone down alive to Sheol -- then ye have known that these men have despised Jehovah.'

31 O r, avvenne che, appena ebbe finito di proferire tutte queste parole, il suolo si spaccò sotto di loro,

And it cometh to pass at his finishing speaking all these words, that the ground which under them cleaveth,

32 l a terra spalancò la sua bocca e li inghiottì con le loro Famiglie, con tutta la gente che parteggiava per Kore, con tutte le loro sostanze.

and the earth openeth her mouth, and swalloweth them, and their houses, and all the men who for Korah, and all the goods,

33 C osì scesero vivi nello Sceol; la terra si richiuse su loro ed essi scomparvero di mezzo all'assemblea.

and they go down, they, and all that they have, alive to Sheol, and the earth closeth over them, and they perish from the midst of the assembly;

34 T utto Israele che si trovava intorno a loro, alle loro grida fuggì, perché dicevano: «Che la terra non inghiottisca anche noi!».

and all Israel who round about them have fled at their voice, for they said, `Lest the earth swallow us;'

35 E un fuoco uscì dalla presenza dell'Eterno e divorò i duecentocinquanta uomini che offrivano l'incenso.

and fire hath come out from Jehovah, and consumeth the two hundred and fifty men bringing near the perfume.

36 P oi l'Eterno parlò a Mosè, dicendo:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

37 « Di' a Eleazar, figlio del sacerdote Aaronne, di tirar fuori i turiboli dall'incendio, perché sono sacri, e di buttare il fuoco lontano;

`Say unto Eleazar son of Aaron the priest, and he lifteth up the censers from the midst of the burning, and the fire scatter thou yonder, for they have been hallowed,

38 e dei turiboli di costoro che hanno peccato a prezzo della loro vita si facciano tante lamine battute per rivestirne l'altare perché li hanno presentati davanti all'Eterno e perciò sono sacri, ed essi saranno un segno di monito per i figli d'Israele».

the censers of these sinners against their own souls; and they have made them spread-out plates, a covering for the altar, for they have brought them near before Jehovah, and they are hallowed; and they are become a sign to the sons of Israel.'

39 C osì il sacerdote Eleazar prese i turiboli di bronzo presentati da coloro che erano stati arsi, e li ridusse in lamine per ricoprire l'altare,

And Eleazar the priest taketh the brazen censers which they who are burnt had brought near, and they spread them out, a covering for the altar --

40 a ffinché servissero di ricordo ai figli d'Israele, e nessun estraneo che non è della progenie di Aaronne si avvicinasse ad offrire incenso davanti all'Eterno e non subisse la sorte di Kore e della sua gente, come l'Eterno gli aveva detto per mezzo di Mosè.

a memorial to the sons of Israel, so that a stranger who is not of the seed of Aaron doth not draw near to make a perfume before Jehovah, and is not as Korah, and as his company, -- as Jehovah hath spoken by the hand of Moses to him.

41 I l giorno seguente, tutta l'assemblea dei figli d'Israele mormorò contro Mosè ed Aaronne, dicendo: «Voi avete fatto morire il popolo dell'Eterno».

And all the company of the sons of Israel murmur, on the morrow, against Moses and against Aaron, saying, `Ye -- ye have put to death the people of Jehovah.'

42 O r avvenne che, mentre l'assemblea si radunava contro Mosè e contro Aaronne, essi si volsero verso la tenda di convegno; ed ecco, la nuvola la ricopriva e apparve la gloria dell'Eterno.

And it cometh to pass, in the company being assembled against Moses and against Aaron, that they turn towards the tent of meeting, and lo, the cloud hath covered it, and the honour of Jehovah is seen;

43 A llora Mosè e Aaronne si portarono davanti alla tenda di convegno.

and Moses cometh -- Aaron also -- unto the front of the tent of meeting.

44 E l'Eterno parlò a Mosè, dicendo:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

45 « Allontanatevi da questa assemblea e io li consumerò in un attimo». Ed essi si prostrarono con la faccia a terra.

`Get you up from the midst of this company, and I consume them in a moment;' and they fall on their faces,

46 C osì Mosè disse ad Aaronne: «Prendi il turibolo, mettivi dentro del fuoco preso dall'altare, poni sopra dell'incenso e portalo presto in mezzo all'assemblea, e fa' l'espiazione per essi, Poiché è scoppiata l'ira che viene dall'Eterno, la piaga è già cominciata».

and Moses saith unto Aaron, `Take the censer, and put on it fire from off the altar, and place perfume, and go, hasten unto the company, and make atonement for them, for the wrath hath gone out from the presence of Jehovah -- the plague hath begun.'

47 A llora Aaronne prese il turibolo, come Mosè aveva detto, e corse in mezzo all'assemblea; ed ecco, la calamità era già cominciata fra il popolo; così mise l'incenso nel turibolo e fece l'espiazione per il popolo.

And Aaron taketh as Moses hath spoken, and runneth unto the midst of the assembly, and lo, the plague hath begun among the people; and he giveth the perfume, and maketh atonement for the people,

48 E si fermò tra i morti e i vivi, e la calamità si arrestò.

and standeth between the dead and the living, and the plague is restrained;

49 O r quelli che morirono per la calamità furono quattordicimilasettecento, oltre quelli che erano morti per il fatto di Kore.

and those who die by the plague are fourteen thousand and seven hundred, apart from those who die for the matter of Korah;

50 C osì Aaronne tornò da Mosè all'ingresso della tenda di convegno, perché la calamità si era arrestata.

and Aaron turneth back unto Moses, unto the opening of the tent of meeting, and the plague hath been restrained.
