1 N ell'anno della morte del re Uzziah, io vidi il Signore assiso sopra un trono alto ed elevato, e i lembi del suo manto riempivano il tempio.

In the year of the death of king Uzziah -- I see the Lord, sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and His train is filling the temple.

2 S opra di lui stavano dei serafini; ognuno di essi aveva sei ali: con due si copriva la faccia, con due si copriva i piedi e con due volava.

Seraphs are standing above it: six wings hath each one; with two covereth its face, and with two covereth its feet, and with two flieth.

3 L 'uno gridava all'altro e diceva: «Santo, santo, santo è l'Eterno degli eserciti. Tutta la terra è piena della sua gloria».

And this one hath called unto that, and hath said: `Holy, Holy, Holy, Jehovah of Hosts, The fulness of all the earth His glory.'

4 G li stipiti della porta furono scossi dalla voce di colui che gridava, mentre il tempio si riempí di fumo.

And the posts of the thresholds are moved by the voice of him who is calling, and the house is full of smoke.

5 A llora io dissi: «Ahimé! Io sono perduto, perché sono un uomo dalle labbra impure e abito in mezzo a un popolo dalle labbra impure; eppure i miei occhi hanno visto il Re, l'Eterno degli eserciti».

And I say, `Wo to me, for I have been silent, For a man -- unclean of lips I, And in midst of a people unclean of lips I am dwelling, Because the King, Jehovah of Hosts, have my eyes seen.'

6 A llora uno dei serafini volò verso di me, tenendo in mano un carbone ardente, che aveva preso con le molle dall'altare.

And flee unto me doth one of the seraphs, and in his hand a burning coal, (with tongs he hath taken from off the altar,)

7 C on esso mi toccò la bocca e disse: «Ecco, questo ha toccato le tue labbra, la tua iniquità è rimossa e il tuo peccato è espiato».

and he striketh against my mouth, and saith: `Lo, this hath stricken against thy lips, And turned aside is thine iniquity, And thy sin is covered.'

8 P oi udii la voce del Signore che diceva: «Chi manderò e chi andrà per noi?». Io risposi: «Eccomi, manda me!».

And I hear the voice of the Lord, saying: `Whom do I send? and who doth go for Us?' And I say, `Here I, send me.'

9 A llora egli disse: «Va' e di' a questo popolo: Ascoltate pure, ma senza comprendere, guardate pure, ma senza discernere!

And He saith, `Go, and thou hast said to this people, Hear ye -- to hear, and ye do not understand, And see ye -- to see, and ye do not know.

10 R endi insensibile il cuore di questo popolo, indurisci i suoi orecchi e chiudi i suoi occhi, affinché non veda con i suoi occhi, né oda con i suoi orecchi né intenda con il suo cuore, e cosí si converta e sia guarito».

Declare fat the heart of this people, And its ears declare heavy, And its eyes declare dazzled, Lest it see with its eyes, And with its ears hear, and its heart consider, And it hath turned back, and hath health.'

11 I o dissi: «Fino a quando, Signore?». Egli rispose: «Finché le città siano devastate e senza abitanti, le case siano senza alcun uomo e il paese sia devastato e desolato

And I say, `Till when, O Lord?' And He saith, `Surely till cities have been wasted without inhabitant, And houses without man, And the ground be wasted -- a desolation,

12 e finché l'Eterno abbia allontanato la gente e vi sia un grande abbandono in mezzo al paese.

And Jehovah hath put man far off, And great the forsaken part in the heart of the land.

13 R imarrà ancora un decimo della popolazione, ma a sua volta sarà distrutto come però al terebinto e alla quercia, quando sono abbattuti rimane il ceppo, così una progenie santa sarà il suo ceppo».

And yet in it a tenth, and it hath turned, And hath been for a burning, As a teil-tree, and as an oak, that in falling, Have substance in them, The holy seed its substance!'
