1 L 'année suivante, au temps où les rois se mettaient en campagne, Joab, à la tête d'une forte armée, alla ravager le pays des fils d'Ammon et assiéger Rabba. Mais David resta à Jérusalem. Joab battit Rabba et la détruisit.

And it cometh to pass, at the time of the turn of the year -- at the time of the going out of the messengers -- that Joab leadeth out the force of the host, and destroyeth the land of the sons of Ammon, and cometh in and beseigeth Rabbah -- David is abiding in Jerusalem -- and Joab smiteth Rabbah, and breaketh it down.

2 D avid enleva la couronne de dessus la tête de son roi, et la trouva du poids d'un talent d'or: elle était garnie de pierres précieuses. On la mit sur la tête de David, qui emporta de la ville un très grand butin.

And David taketh the crown of their king from off his head, and findeth it weight a talent of gold, and in it a precious stone, and it is on the head of David: and spoil of the city he hath brought out very much,

3 I l fit sortir les habitants, et il les mit en pièces avec des scies, des herses de fer et des haches; il traita de même toutes les villes des fils d'Ammon. David retourna à Jérusalem avec tout le peuple.

and the people who in it he hath brought out, and setteth to the saw, and to cutting instruments of iron, and to axes; and thus doth David to all cities of the sons of Ammon, and David turneth back, and all the people, to Jerusalem.

4 A près cela, il y eut une bataille à Guézer avec les Philistins. Alors Sibbecaï, le Huschatite, tua Sippaï, l'un des enfants de Rapha. Et les Philistins furent humiliés.

And it cometh to pass, after this, that there remaineth war in Gezer with the Philistines, then hath Sibbechai the Hushathite smitten Sippai, of the children of the giant, and they are humbled.

5 I l y eut encore une bataille avec les Philistins. Et Elchanan, fils de Jaïr, tua le frère de Goliath, Lachmi de Gath, qui avait une lance dont le bois était comme une ensouple de tisserand.

And there is again war with the Philistines, and Elhanan son of Jair smiteth Lahmi, brother of Goliath the Gittite, the wood of whose spear like a beam of weavers.

6 I l y eut encore une bataille à Gath. Il s'y trouva un homme de haute taille, qui avait six doigts à chaque main et à chaque pied, vingt-quatre en tout, et qui était aussi issu de Rapha.

And there is again war in Gath, and there is a man of measure, and his fingers and his toes six and six, twenty and four, and also, he hath been born to the giant.

7 I l jeta un défi à Israël; et Jonathan, fils de Schimea, frère de David, le tua.

And he reproacheth Israel, and smite him doth Jonathan son of Shimea, brother of David.

8 C es hommes étaient des enfants de Rapha à Gath. Ils périrent par la main de David et par la main de ses serviteurs.

These were born to the giant in Gath, and they fall by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
