1 A u commencement du règne de Jojakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, cette parole fut prononcée de la part de l'Éternel, en ces mots:

In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, hath this word been from Jehovah, saying:

2 A insi parle l'Éternel: Tiens-toi dans le parvis de la maison de l'Éternel, et dis à ceux qui de toutes les villes de Juda viennent se prosterner dans la maison de l'Éternel toutes les paroles que je t'ordonne de leur dire; n'en retranche pas un mot.

`Thus said Jehovah, Stand thou in the court of the house of Jehovah, and thou hast spoken unto all the cities of Judah who are coming in to bow themselves in the house of Jehovah, all the words that I have commanded thee to speak unto them, thou dost not diminish a word.

3 P eut-être écouteront-ils, et reviendront-ils chacun de leur mauvaise voie; alors je me repentirai du mal que j'avais pensé leur faire à cause de la méchanceté de leurs actions.

If so be they hearken, and turn back each from his evil way, then I have repented concerning the evil that I am thinking of doing to them, because of the evil of their doings.

4 T u leur diras: Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Si vous ne m'écoutez pas quand je vous ordonne de suivre ma loi que j'ai mise devant vous,

`And thou hast said unto them: Thus said Jehovah, If ye do not hearken unto Me, to walk in My law, that I set before you,

5 d 'écouter les paroles de mes serviteurs, les prophètes, que je vous envoie, que je vous ai envoyés dès le matin, et que vous n'avez pas écoutés,

To hearken to the words of My servants the prophets, whom I am sending unto you, yea, rising early and sending, and ye have not hearkened,

6 a lors je traiterai cette maison comme Silo, et je ferai de cette ville un objet de malédiction pour toutes les nations de la terre.

Then I have given up this house as Shiloh, and this city I give up for a reviling to all nations of the earth.'

7 L es sacrificateurs, les prophètes, et tout le peuple, entendirent Jérémie prononcer ces paroles dans la maison de l'Éternel.

And the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, hear Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of Jehovah,

8 E t comme Jérémie achevait de dire tout ce que l'Éternel lui avait ordonné de dire à tout le peuple, les sacrificateurs, les prophètes, et tout le peuple, se saisirent de lui, en disant: Tu mourras!

And it cometh to pass, at the completion of Jeremiah's speaking all that Jehovah hath commanded him to speak unto all the people, that the priests, and the prophets, and all the people catch him, saying, Thou dost surely die,

9 P ourquoi prophétises-tu au nom de l'Éternel, en disant: Cette maison sera comme Silo, et cette ville sera dévastée, privée d'habitants? Tout le peuple s'attroupa autour de Jérémie dans la maison de l'Éternel.

Wherefore hast thou prophesied in the name of Jehovah, saying, `As Shiloh this house shall be, and this city is wasted, without inhabitant?' and all the people are assembled unto Jeremiah in the house of Jehovah.

10 L orsque les chefs de Juda eurent appris ces choses, ils montèrent de la maison du roi à la maison de l'Éternel, et s'assirent à l'entrée de la porte neuve de la maison de l'Éternel.

And the heads of Judah hear these things, and they go up from the house of the king the house of Jehovah, and sit in the opening of the new gate of Jehovah.

11 A lors les sacrificateurs et les prophètes parlèrent ainsi aux chefs et à tout le peuple: Cet homme mérite la mort; car il a prophétisé contre cette ville, comme vous l'avez entendu de vos oreilles.

And the priests and the prophets speak unto the heads, and unto all the people, saying, `Judgment of death for this man, for he hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.'

12 J érémie dit à tous les chefs et à tout le peuple: L'Éternel m'a envoyé pour prophétiser contre cette maison et contre cette ville, toutes les choses que vous avez entendues.

And Jeremiah speaketh unto all the heads, and unto all the people, saying, `Jehovah sent me to prophesy concerning this house, and concerning this city, all the words that ye have heard;

13 M aintenant réformez vos voies et vos oeuvres, écoutez la voix de l'Éternel, votre Dieu, et l'Éternel se repentira du mal qu'il a prononcé contre vous.

And now, amend your ways, and your doings, and hearken to the voice of Jehovah your God, and Jehovah doth repent concerning the evil that He hath spoken against you.

14 P our moi, me voici entre vos mains; traitez-moi comme il vous semblera bon et juste.

`And I, lo, I in your hand, do to me as is good and as is right in your eyes;

15 S eulement sachez que, si vous me faites mourir, vous vous chargez du sang innocent, vous, cette ville et ses habitants; car l'Éternel m'a véritablement envoyé vers vous pour prononcer à vos oreilles toutes ces paroles.

Only, know ye certainly, that if ye are putting me to death, surely innocent blood ye are putting on yourselves, and on this city, and on its inhabitants; for truly hath Jehovah sent me unto you to speak in your ears all these words.'

16 L es chefs et tout le peuple dirent aux sacrificateurs et aux prophètes: Cet homme ne mérite point la mort; car c'est au nom de l'Éternel, notre Dieu, qu'il nous a parlé.

And the heads and all the people say unto the priests and unto the prophets, `There is not for this man a judgment of death, for in the name of Jehovah our God he hath spoken unto us.'

17 E t quelques-uns des anciens du pays se levèrent, et dirent à toute l'assemblée du peuple:

And certain of the elders of the land rise up, and speak unto all the assembly of the people, saying,

18 M ichée, de Moréscheth, prophétisait du temps d'Ézéchias, roi de Juda, et il disait à tout le peuple de Juda: Ainsi parle l'Éternel des armées: Sion sera labourée comme un champ, Jérusalem deviendra un monceau de pierres, Et la montagne de la maison une haute forêt.

`Micah the Morashtite hath been prophesying in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and he saith unto all the people of Judah, saying: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Zion is a plowed field, and Jerusalem is heaps, And the mountain of the house is for high places of a forest.

19 É zéchias, roi de Juda, et tout Juda l'ont-ils fait mourir? Ézéchias ne craignit-il pas l'Éternel? N'implora-t-il pas l'Éternel? Alors l'Éternel se repentit du mal qu'il avait prononcé contre eux. Et nous, nous chargerions notre âme d'un si grand crime!

`Put him at all to death did Hezekiah king of Judah, and all Judah? Did he not fear Jehovah? yea, he appeaseth the face of Jehovah, and Jehovah repenteth concerning the evil that He spake against them; and we are doing great evil against our souls.

20 I l y eut aussi un homme qui prophétisait au nom de l'Éternel, Urie, fils de Schemaeja, de Kirjath Jearim. Il prophétisa contre cette ville et contre ce pays entièrement les mêmes choses que Jérémie.

`And also there hath been a man prophesying in the name of Jehovah, Urijah son of Shemaiah, of Kirjath-Jearim, and he prophesieth against this city, and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah,

21 L e roi Jojakim, tous ses vaillants hommes, et tous ses chefs, entendirent ses paroles, et le roi chercha à le faire mourir. Urie, qui en fut informé, eut peur, prit la fuite, et alla en Égypte.

And the king Jehoiakim, and all his mighty ones, and all the heads, hear his words, and the king seeketh to put him to death, and Urijah heareth, and feareth, and fleeth, and goeth in to Egypt.

22 L e roi Jojakim envoya des gens en Égypte, Elnathan, fils d'Acbor, et des gens avec lui en Égypte.

And the king Jehoiakim sendeth men to Egypt -- Elnathan son of Achbor, and men with him unto Egypt --

23 I ls firent sortir d'Égypte Urie et l'amenèrent au roi Jojakim, qui le fit mourir par l'épée et jeta son cadavre sur les sépulcres des enfants du peuple.

And they bring out Urijah from Egypt, and bring him in unto the king Jehoiakim, and he smiteth him with a sword, and casteth his corpse unto the graves of the sons of the people.'

24 C ependant la main d'Achikam, fils de Schaphan, fut avec Jérémie, et empêcha qu'il ne fût livré au peuple pour être mis à mort.

Only, the hand of Ahikam son of Shaphan hath been with Jeremiah so as not to give him up into the hand of the people to put him to death.
