1 T andis que Pierre et Jean parlaient au peuple, survinrent les sacrificateurs, le commandant du temple, et les sadducéens,

And as they are speaking unto the people, there came to them the priests, and the magistrate of the temple, and the Sadducees --

2 m écontents de ce qu'ils enseignaient le peuple, et annonçaient en la personne de Jésus la résurrection des morts.

being grieved because of their teaching the people, and preaching in Jesus the rising again out of the dead --

3 I ls mirent les mains sur eux, et ils les jetèrent en prison jusqu'au lendemain; car c'était déjà le soir.

and they laid hands upon them, and did put them in custody unto the morrow, for it was evening already;

4 C ependant, beaucoup de ceux qui avaient entendu la parole crurent, et le nombre des hommes s'éleva à environ cinq mille.

and many of those hearing the word did believe, and the number of the men became, as it were, five thousand.

5 L e lendemain, les chefs du peuple, les anciens et les scribes, s'assemblèrent à Jérusalem,

And it came to pass upon the morrow, there were gathered together of them the rulers, and elders, and scribes, to Jerusalem,

6 a vec Anne, le souverain sacrificateur, Caïphe, Jean, Alexandre, et tous ceux qui étaient de la race des principaux sacrificateurs.

and Annas the chief priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the chief priest,

7 I ls firent placer au milieu d'eux Pierre et Jean, et leur demandèrent: Par quel pouvoir, ou au nom de qui avez-vous fait cela?

and having set them in the midst, they were inquiring, `In what power, or in what name did ye do this?'

8 A lors Pierre, rempli du Saint Esprit, leur dit: Chefs du peuple, et anciens d'Israël,

Then Peter, having been filled with the Holy Spirit, said unto them: `Rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,

9 p uisque nous sommes interrogés aujourd'hui sur un bienfait accordé à un homme malade, afin que nous disions comment il a été guéri,

if we to-day are examined concerning the good deed to the ailing man, by whom he hath been saved,

10 s achez-le tous, et que tout le peuple d'Israël le sache! C'est par le nom de Jésus Christ de Nazareth, que vous avez été crucifié, et que Dieu a ressuscité des morts, c'est par lui que cet homme se présente en pleine santé devant vous.

be it known to all of you, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye did crucify, whom God did raise out of the dead, in him hath this one stood by before you whole.

11 J ésus est La pierre rejetée par vous qui bâtissez, Et qui est devenue la principale de l'angle.

`This is the stone that was set at nought by you -- the builders, that became head of a corner;

12 I l n'y a de salut en aucun autre; car il n'y a sous le ciel aucun autre nom qui ait été donné parmi les hommes, par lequel nous devions être sauvés.

and there is not salvation in any other, for there is no other name under the heaven that hath been given among men, in which it behoveth us to be saved.'

13 L orsqu'ils virent l'assurance de Pierre et de Jean, ils furent étonnés, sachant que c'étaient des hommes du peuple sans instruction; et ils les reconnurent pour avoir été avec Jésus.

And beholding the openness of Peter and John, and having perceived that they are men unlettered and plebeian, they were wondering -- they were taking knowledge also of them that with Jesus they had been --

14 M ais comme ils voyaient là près d'eux l'homme qui avait été guéri, ils n'avaient rien à répliquer.

and seeing the man standing with them who hath been healed, they had nothing to say against,

15 I ls leur ordonnèrent de sortir du sanhédrin, et ils délibérèrent entre eux, disant: Que ferons-nous à ces hommes?

and having commanded them to go away out of the sanhedrim, they took counsel with one another,

16 C ar il est manifeste pour tous les habitants de Jérusalem qu'un miracle signalé a été accompli par eux, et nous ne pouvons pas le nier.

saying, `What shall we do to these men? because that, indeed, a notable sign hath been done through them, to all those dwelling in Jerusalem manifest, and we are not able to deny;

17 M ais, afin que la chose ne se répande pas davantage parmi le peuple, défendons-leur avec menaces de parler désormais à qui que ce soit en ce nom-là.

but that it may spread no further toward the people, let us strictly threaten them no more to speak in this name to any man.'

18 E t les ayant appelés, ils leur défendirent absolument de parler et d'enseigner au nom de Jésus.

And having called them, they charged them not to speak at all, nor to teach, in the name of Jesus,

19 P ierre et Jean leur répondirent: Jugez s'il est juste, devant Dieu, de vous obéir plutôt qu'à Dieu;

and Peter and John answering unto them said, `Whether it is righteous before God to hearken to you rather than to God, judge ye;

20 c ar nous ne pouvons pas ne pas parler de ce que nous avons vu et entendu.

for we cannot but speak what we did see and hear.'

21 I ls leur firent de nouvelles menaces, et les relâchèrent, ne sachant comment les punir, à cause du peuple, parce que tous glorifiaient Dieu de ce qui était arrivé.

And they having further threatened, let them go, finding nothing how they may punish them, because of the people, because all were glorifying God for that which hath been done,

22 C ar l'homme qui avait été l'objet de cette guérison miraculeuse était âgé de plus de quarante ans.

for above forty years of age was the man upon whom had been done this sign of the healing.

23 A près avoir été relâchés, ils allèrent vers les leurs, et racontèrent tout ce que les principaux sacrificateurs et les anciens leur avaient dit.

And being let go, they went unto their own friends, and declared whatever the chief priests and the elders said unto them,

24 L orsqu'ils l'eurent entendu, ils élevèrent à Dieu la voix tous ensemble, et dirent: Seigneur, toi qui as fait le ciel, la terre, la mer, et tout ce qui s'y trouve,

and they having heard, with one accord did lift up the voice unto God, and said, `Lord, thou God, who didst make the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and all that in them,

25 c 'est toi qui as dit par le Saint Esprit, par la bouche de notre père, ton serviteur David: Pourquoi ce tumulte parmi les nations, Et ces vaines pensées parmi les peuples?

who, through the mouth of David thy servant, did say, Why did nations rage, and peoples meditate vain things?

26 L es rois de la terre se sont soulevés, Et les princes se sont ligués Contre le Seigneur et contre son Oint.

the kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord and against His Christ;

27 E n effet, contre ton saint serviteur Jésus, que tu as oint, Hérode et Ponce Pilate se sont ligués dans cette ville avec les nations et avec les peuples d'Israël,

for gathered together of a truth against Thy holy child Jesus, whom Thou didst anoint, were both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with nations and peoples of Israel,

28 p our faire tout ce que ta main et ton conseil avaient arrêté d'avance.

to do whatever Thy hand and Thy counsel did determine before to come to pass.

29 E t maintenant, Seigneur, vois leurs menaces, et donne à tes serviteurs d'annoncer ta parole avec une pleine assurance,

`And now, Lord, look upon their threatenings, and grant to Thy servants with all freedom to speak Thy word,

30 e n étendant ta main, pour qu'il se fasse des guérisons, des miracles et des prodiges, par le nom de ton saint serviteur Jésus.

in the stretching forth of Thy hand, for healing, and signs, and wonders, to come to pass through the name of Thy holy child Jesus.'

31 Q uand ils eurent prié, le lieu où ils étaient assemblés trembla; ils furent tous remplis du Saint Esprit, et ils annonçaient la parole de Dieu avec assurance.

And they having prayed, the place was shaken in which they were gathered together, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and were speaking the word of God with freedom,

32 L a multitude de ceux qui avaient cru n'était qu'un coeur et qu'une âme. Nul ne disait que ses biens lui appartinssent en propre, mais tout était commun entre eux.

and of the multitude of those who did believe the heart and the soul was one, and not one was saying that anything of the things he had was his own, but all things were to them in common.

33 L es apôtres rendaient avec beaucoup de force témoignage de la résurrection du Seigneur Jésus. Et une grande grâce reposait sur eux tous.

And with great power were the apostles giving the testimony to the rising again of the Lord Jesus, great grace also was on them all,

34 C ar il n'y avait parmi eux aucun indigent: tous ceux qui possédaient des champs ou des maisons les vendaient, apportaient le prix de ce qu'ils avaient vendu,

for there was not any one among them who did lack, for as many as were possessors of fields, or houses, selling, were bringing the prices of the thing sold,

35 e t le déposaient aux pieds des apôtres; et l'on faisait des distributions à chacun selon qu'il en avait besoin.

and were laying them at the feet of the apostles, and distribution was being made to each according as any one had need.

36 J oseph, surnommé par les apôtres Barnabas, ce qui signifie fils d'exhortation, Lévite, originaire de Chypre,

And Joses, who was surnamed by the apostles Barnabas -- which is, having been interpreted, Son of Comfort -- a Levite, of Cyprus by birth,

37 v endit un champ qu'il possédait, apporta l'argent, et le déposa aux pieds des apôtres.

a field being his, having sold, brought the money and laid at the feet of the apostles.
