Wo the rebellious and polluted, The oppressing city!

2 E lle n'écoute aucune voix, Elle n'a point égard à la correction, Elle ne se confie pas en l'Éternel, Elle ne s'approche pas de son Dieu.

She hath not hearkened to the voice, She hath not accepted instruction, In Jehovah she hath not trusted, Unto her God she hath not drawn near.

3 S es chefs au milieu d'elle sont des lions rugissants; Ses juges sont des loups du soir qui ne gardent rien pour le matin.

Her heads in her midst roaring lions, Her judges evening wolves, They have not gnawn the bone in the morning.

4 S es prophètes sont téméraires, infidèles; Ses sacrificateurs profanent les choses saintes, violent la loi.

Her prophets unstable -- men of treachery, Her priests have polluted the sanctuary, They have violated the law.

5 L 'Éternel est juste au milieu d'elle, Il ne commet point d'iniquité; Chaque matin il produit à la lumière ses jugements, Sans jamais y manquer; Mais celui qui est inique ne connaît pas la honte.

Jehovah righteous in her midst, He doth not do perverseness, Morning by morning His judgment he giveth to the light, It hath not been lacking, And the perverse doth not know shame.

6 J 'ai exterminé des nations; leurs tours sont détruites; J'ai dévasté leurs rues, plus de passants! Leurs villes sont ravagées, plus d'hommes, plus d'habitants!

I have cut off nations, Desolated have been their chief ones, I have laid waste their out-places without any passing by, Destroyed have been their cities, Without man, without inhabitant.

7 J e disais: Si du moins tu voulais me craindre, Avoir égard à la correction, Ta demeure ne serait pas détruite, Tous les châtiments dont je t'ai menacée n'arriveraient pas; Mais ils se sont hâtés de pervertir toutes leurs actions.

I have said: Only, ye do fear Me, Ye do accept instruction, And her habitation is not cut off, All that I have appointed for her, But they have risen early, They have corrupted all their doings.

8 A ttendez-moi donc, dit l'Éternel, Au jour où je me lèverai pour le butin, Car j'ai résolu de rassembler les nations, De rassembler les royaumes, Pour répandre sur eux ma fureur, Toute l'ardeur de ma colère; Car par le feu de ma jalousie tout le pays sera consumé.

Therefore, wait for Me -- an affirmation of Jehovah, For the day of My rising for prey, For My judgment to gather nations, To assemble kingdoms, To pour out on them Mine indignation, All the heat of Mine anger, For by the fire of My jealousy consumed is all the earth.

9 A lors je donnerai aux peuples des lèvres pures, Afin qu'ils invoquent tous le nom de l'Éternel, Pour le servir d'un commun accord.

For then do I turn unto peoples a pure lip, To call all of them by the name of Jehovah, To serve Him one shoulder.

10 D 'au delà des fleuves de l'Éthiopie Mes adorateurs, mes dispersés, m'apporteront des offrandes.

From beyond the rivers of Cush, my supplicants, The daughter of My scattered ones, Do bring My present.

11 E n ce jour-là, tu n'auras plus à rougir de toutes tes actions Par lesquelles tu as péché contre moi; Car alors j'ôterai du milieu de toi ceux qui triomphaient avec arrogance, Et tu ne t'enorgueilliras plus sur ma montagne sainte.

In that day thou art not ashamed because of any of thine actions, Wherewith thou hast transgressed against Me, For then do I turn aside from thy midst The exulting ones of thine excellency, And thou dost add no more to be haughty, In My holy mountain.

12 J e laisserai au milieu de toi un peuple humble et petit, Qui trouvera son refuge dans le nom de l'Éternel.

And I have left in thy midst a people humble and poor, And they have trusted in the name of Jehovah.

13 L es restes d'Israël ne commettront point d'iniquité, Ils ne diront point de mensonges, Et il ne se trouvera pas dans leur bouche une langue trompeuse; Mais ils paîtront, ils se reposeront, et personne ne les troublera.

The remnant of Israel do no perversity, nor speak lies, Nor found in their mouth is a deceitful tongue, For they have delight, and have lain down, And there is none troubling.

14 P ousse des cris de joie, fille de Sion! Pousse des cris d'allégresse, Israël! Réjouis-toi et triomphe de tout ton coeur, fille de Jérusalem!

Cry aloud, O daughter of Zion, shout, O Israel, Rejoice and exult with the whole heart, O daughter of Jerusalem.

15 L 'Éternel a détourné tes châtiments, Il a éloigné ton ennemi; Le roi d'Israël, l'Éternel, est au milieu de toi; Tu n'as plus de malheur à éprouver.

Jehovah hath turned aside thy judgments, He hath faced thine enemy, The king of Israel, Jehovah, in thy midst, Thou seest evil no more.

16 E n ce jour-là, on dira à Jérusalem: Ne crains rien! Sion, que tes mains ne s'affaiblissent pas!

In that day it is said to Jerusalem, `Fear not, O Zion, let not thy hands be feeble.

17 L 'Éternel, ton Dieu, est au milieu de toi, comme un héros qui sauve; Il fera de toi sa plus grande joie; Il gardera le silence dans son amour; Il aura pour toi des transports d'allégresse.

Jehovah thy God in thy midst, A mighty one doth save, He rejoiceth over thee with joy, He doth work in His love, He joyeth over thee with singing.'

18 J e rassemblerai ceux qui sont dans la tristesse, loin des fêtes solennelles, Ceux qui sont sortis de ton sein; L'opprobre pèse sur eux.

Mine afflicted from the appointed place I have gathered, from thee they have been, Bearing for her sake reproach.

19 V oici, en ce temps-là, j'agirai contre tous tes oppresseurs; Je délivrerai les boiteux et je recueillerai ceux qui ont été chassés, Je ferai d'eux un sujet de louange et de gloire Dans tous les pays où ils sont en opprobre.

Lo, I am dealing with all afflicting thee at that time, And I have saved the halting one, And the driven out ones I do gather, And have set them for a praise and for a name, In all the land of their shame.

20 E n ce temps-là, je vous ramènerai; En ce temps-là, je vous rassemblerai; Car je ferai de vous un sujet de gloire et de louange Parmi tous les peuples de la terre, Quand je ramènerai vos captifs sous vos yeux, Dit l'Éternel.

At that time I bring you in, Even at the time of My assembling you, For I give you for a name, and for a praise, Among all peoples of the land, In My turning back your captivity before your eyes, said Jehovah!
