1 J osaphat eut en abondance des richesses et de la gloire, et il s'allia par mariage avec Achab.

And Jehoshaphat hath riches and honour in abundance, and joineth affinity to Ahab,

2 A u bout de quelques années, il descendit auprès d'Achab à Samarie; et Achab tua pour lui et pour le peuple qui était avec lui un grand nombre de brebis et de boeufs, et il le sollicita de monter à Ramoth en Galaad.

and goeth down at the end of years unto Ahab to Samaria, and Ahab sacrificeth for him sheep and oxen in abundance, and for the people who with him, and persuadeth him to go up unto Ramoth-Gilead.

3 A chab, roi d'Israël, dit à Josaphat, roi de Juda: Veux-tu venir avec moi à Ramoth en Galaad? Josaphat lui répondit: Moi comme toi, et mon peuple comme ton peuple, nous irons l'attaquer avec toi.

And Ahab king of Israel saith unto Jehoshaphat king of Judah, `Dost thou go with me Ramoth-Gilead?' And he saith to him, `As I -- so thou, and as thy people -- my people, even with thee in battle.'

4 P uis Josaphat dit au roi d'Israël: Consulte maintenant, je te prie, la parole de l'Éternel.

And Jehoshaphat saith unto the king of Israel, `Seek, I pray thee, this day, the word of Jehovah.'

5 L e roi d'Israël assembla les prophètes, au nombre de quatre cents, et leur dit: Irons-nous attaquer Ramoth en Galaad, ou dois-je y renoncer? Et ils répondirent: Monte, et Dieu la livrera entre les mains du roi.

And the king of Israel gathereth the prophets, four hundred men, and saith unto them, `Do we go unto Ramoth-Gilead to battle, or do I forbear?' And they say, `Go up, and God doth give into the hand of the king.'

6 M ais Josaphat dit: N'y a-t-il plus ici aucun prophète de l'Éternel, par qui nous puissions le consulter?

And Jehoshaphat saith, `Is there not here a prophet of Jehovah still, and we seek from him?'

7 L e roi d'Israël répondit à Josaphat: Il y a encore un homme par qui l'on pourrait consulter l'Éternel; mais je le hais, car il ne me prophétise rien de bon, il ne prophétise jamais que du mal: c'est Michée, fils de Jimla. Et Josaphat dit: Que le roi ne parle pas ainsi!

And the king of Israel saith unto Jehoshaphat, `Still -- one man to seek Jehovah from him, and I -- I have hated him, for he is not prophesying concerning me of good, but all his days of evil, he Micaiah son of Imlah;' and Jehoshaphat saith, `Let not the king say so.'

8 A lors le roi d'Israël appela un eunuque, et dit: Fais venir tout de suite Michée, fils de Jimla.

And the king of Israel calleth unto a certain officer, and saith, `Hasten Micaiah son of Imlah.'

9 L e roi d'Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, étaient assis chacun sur son trône, revêtus de leurs habits royaux; ils étaient assis dans la place à l'entrée de la porte de Samarie. Et tous les prophètes prophétisaient devant eux.

And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah are sitting, each on his throne, clothed with garments, and they are sitting in a threshing-floor at the opening of the gate of Samaria, and all the prophets are prophesying before them.

10 S édécias, fils de Kenaana, s'était fait des cornes de fer, et il dit: Ainsi parle l'Éternel: Avec ces cornes, tu frapperas les Syriens jusqu'à les détruire.

And Zedekiah son of Chenaanah maketh for himself horns of iron, and saith, `Thus said Jehovah,

11 E t tous les prophètes prophétisèrent de même, en disant: Monte à Ramoth en Galaad! tu auras du succès, et l'Éternel la livrera entre les mains du roi.

With these thou dost push Aram till thou hast consumed them.' And all the prophets are prophesying so, saying, `Go up Ramath-Gilead and prosper, and Jehovah hath given into the hand of the king.'

12 L e messager qui était allé appeler Michée lui parla ainsi: Voici, les prophètes d'un commun accord prophétisent du bien au roi; que ta parole soit donc comme la parole de chacun d'eux! annonce du bien!

And the messenger who hath gone to call for Micaiah hath spoken unto him, saying, `Lo, the words of the prophets -- one mouth -- good towards the king, and let, I pray thee, thy word be like one of theirs: and thou hast spoken good.'

13 M ichée répondit: L'Éternel est vivant! j'annoncerai ce que dira mon Dieu.

And Micaiah saith `Jehovah liveth, surely that which my God saith, it I speak.'

14 L orsqu'il fut arrivé auprès du roi, le roi lui dit: Michée, irons-nous attaquer Ramoth en Galaad, ou dois-je y renoncer? Il répondit: Montez! vous aurez du succès, et ils seront livrés entre vos mains.

And he cometh in unto the king, and the king saith unto him, `Micaiah, do we go unto Ramoth-Gilead to battle, or do I forbear?' And he saith, `Go ye up, and prosper, and they are given into your hand.'

15 E t le roi lui dit: Combien de fois me faudra-t-il te faire jurer de ne me dire que la vérité au nom de l'Éternel?

And the king saith unto him, `How many times am I adjuring thee, that thou speak unto me only truth in the name of Jehovah?'

16 M ichée répondit: Je vois tout Israël dispersé sur les montagnes, comme des brebis qui n'ont point de berger; et l'Éternel dit: Ces gens n'ont point de maître, que chacun retourne en paix dans sa maison!

And he saith, `I have seen all Israel scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd, and Jehovah saith, There are no masters to these, they turn back each to his house in peace.'

17 L e roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat: Ne te l'ai-je pas dit? Il ne prophétise sur moi rien de bon, il ne prophétise que du mal.

And the king of Israel saith unto Jehoshaphat, `Did I not say unto thee, He doth not prophesy concerning me good, but rather of evil?'

18 E t Michée dit: Écoutez donc la parole de l'Éternel! J'ai vu l'Éternel assis sur son trône, et toute l'armée des cieux se tenant à sa droite et à sa gauche.

And he saith, `Therefore, hear ye a word of Jehovah: I have seen Jehovah sitting on His throne, and all the host of the heavens standing on His right and His left;

19 E t l'Éternel dit: Qui séduira Achab, roi d'Israël, pour qu'il monte à Ramoth en Galaad et qu'il y périsse? Ils répondirent l'un d'une manière, l'autre d'une autre.

and Jehovah saith, Who doth entice Ahab king of Israel, and he doth go up and fall in Ramoth-Gilead? And this speaker saith thus, and that speaker thus.

20 E t un esprit vint se présenter devant l'Éternel, et dit: Moi, je le séduirai.

And go out doth the spirit, and stand before Jehovah, and saith, I do entice him; and Jehovah saith unto him, With what?

21 L 'Éternel lui dit: Comment? Je sortirai, répondit-il, et je serai un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tous ses prophètes. L'Éternel dit: Tu le séduiras, et tu en viendras à bout; sors, et fais ainsi.

and he saith, I go out, and have become a spirit of falsehood in the mouth of all his prophets. And He saith, Thou dost entice, and also, thou art able; go out and do so.

22 E t maintenant, voici, l'Éternel a mis un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tes prophètes qui sont là. Et l'Éternel a prononcé du mal contre toi.

And, now, lo, Jehovah hath put a spirit of falsehood in the mouth of these thy prophets, and Jehovah hath spoken concerning thee -- evil.'

23 A lors Sédécias, fils de Kenaana, s'étant approché, frappa Michée sur la joue, et dit: Par quel chemin l'esprit de l'Éternel est-il sorti de moi pour te parler?

And Zedekiah son of Chenaanah cometh nigh, and smiteth Micaiah on the cheek, and saith, `Where this -- the way the Spirit of Jehovah passed over from me to speak with thee?'

24 M ichée répondit: Tu le verras au jour où tu iras de chambre en chambre pour te cacher.

And Micaiah saith, `Lo, thou dost see in that day, that thou dost enter into the innermost chamber to be hidden.'

25 L e roi d'Israël dit: Prenez Michée et emmenez-le vers Amon, chef de la ville, et vers Joas, fils du roi.

And the king of Israel saith, `Take ye Micaiah, and turn him back unto Amon head of the city, and unto Joash son of the king,

26 V ous direz: Ainsi parle le roi: Mettez cet homme en prison, et nourrissez-le du pain et de l'eau d'affliction, jusqu'à ce que je revienne en paix.

and ye have said, Thus said the king, Put ye this in the house of restraint, and cause him to eat bread of oppression, and water of oppression, till my return in peace.'

27 E t Michée dit: Si tu reviens en paix, l'Éternel n'a point parlé par moi. Il dit encore: Vous tous, peuples, entendez!

And Micaiah saith, `If thou dost certainly return in peace, Jehovah hath not spoken by me;' and he saith, `Hear ye, O peoples, all of them!'

28 L e roi d'Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, montèrent à Ramoth en Galaad.

And the king of Israel goeth up, and Jehoshaphat king of Judah, unto Ramoth-Gilead;

29 L e roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat: Je veux me déguiser pour aller au combat; mais toi, revêts-toi de tes habits. Et le roi d'Israël se déguisa, et ils allèrent au combat.

and the king of Israel saith unto Jehoshaphat to disguise himself, and to go into battle, `And thou, put on thy garments.' And the king of Israel disguiseth himself, and they go into battle.

30 L e roi de Syrie avait donné cet ordre aux chefs de ses chars: Vous n'attaquerez ni petit ni grand, mais vous attaquerez seulement le roi d'Israël.

And the king of Aram hath commanded the heads of the charioteers whom he hath, saying, `Ye do not fight with small or with great, except with the king of Israel by himself.'

31 Q uand les chefs des chars aperçurent Josaphat, ils dirent: C'est le roi d'Israël. Et ils l'entourèrent pour l'attaquer. Josaphat poussa un cri, et l'Éternel le secourut, et Dieu les écarta de lui.

And it cometh to pass at the heads of the charioteers seeing Jehoshaphat, that they have said, `The king of Israel he is,' and they turn round against him to fight, and Jehoshaphat crieth out, and Jehovah hath helped him, and God enticeth them from him,

32 L es chefs des chars, voyant que ce n'était pas le roi d'Israël, s'éloignèrent de lui.

yea, it cometh to pass, at the heads of the charioteers seeing that it hath not been the king of Israel -- they turn back from after him.

33 A lors un homme tira de son arc au hasard, et frappa le roi d'Israël au défaut de la cuirasse. Le roi dit à celui qui dirigeait son char: Tourne, et fais-moi sortir du champ de bataille, car je suis blessé.

And a man hath drawn with a bow, in his simplicity, and smiteth the king of Israel between the joinings and the coat of mail, and he saith to the charioteer, `Turn thy hand, and thou hast brought me out of the camp, for I have become sick.'

34 L e combat devint acharné ce jour-là. Le roi d'Israël fut retenu dans son char, en face des Syriens, jusqu'au soir, et il mourut vers le coucher du soleil.

And the battle increaseth on that day, and the king of Israel hath been stayed up in the chariot over-against Aram till the evening, and he dieth at the time of the going in of the sun.
