1 O n vint dire à David: Voici, les Philistins ont attaqué Keïla, et ils pillent les aires.

And they declare to David, saying, `Lo, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah, and they are spoiling the threshing-floors.'

2 D avid consulta l'Éternel, en disant: Irai-je, et battrai-je ces Philistins? Et l'Éternel lui répondit: Va, tu battras les Philistins, et tu délivreras Keïla.

And David asketh at Jehovah, saying, `Do I go? -- and have I smitten among these Philistines?' And Jehovah saith unto David, `Go, and thou hast smitten among the Philistines, and saved Keilah.'

3 M ais les gens de David lui dirent: Voici, nous ne sommes pas sans crainte ici même en Juda; que sera-ce si nous allons à Keïla contre les troupes des Philistins?

And David's men say unto him, `Lo, we here in Judah are afraid; and how much more when we go to Keilah, unto the ranks of the Philistines?'

4 D avid consulta encore l'Éternel. Et l'Éternel lui répondit: Lève-toi, descends à Keïla, car je livre les Philistins entre tes mains.

And David addeth again to ask at Jehovah, and Jehovah answereth him, and saith, `Rise, go down to Keilah, for I am giving the Philistines into thy hand.'

5 D avid alla donc avec ses gens à Keïla, et il se battit contre les Philistins; il emmena leur bétail, et leur fit éprouver une grande défaite. Ainsi David délivra les habitants de Keïla.

And David goeth, and his men, to Keilah, and fighteth with the Philistines, and leadeth away their cattle, and smiteth among them -- a great smiting, and David saveth the inhabitants of Keilah.

6 L orsque Abiathar, fils d'Achimélec, s'enfuit vers David à Keïla, il descendit ayant en main l'éphod.

And it cometh to pass, in the fleeing of Abiathar son of Ahimelech unto David, to Keilah, an ephod came down in his hand.

7 S aül fut informé de l'arrivée de David à Keïla, et il dit: Dieu le livre entre mes mains, car il est venu s'enfermer dans une ville qui a des portes et des barres.

And it is declared to Saul that David hath come in to Keilah, and Saul saith, `God hath made him known for my hand, for he hath been shut in, to enter into a city of doors and bar.'

8 E t Saül convoqua tout le peuple à la guerre, afin de descendre à Keïla et d'assiéger David et ses gens.

And Saul summoneth the whole of the people to battle, to go down to Keilah, to lay siege unto David and unto his men.

9 D avid, ayant eu connaissance du mauvais dessein que Saül projetait contre lui, dit au sacrificateur Abiathar: Apporte l'éphod!

And David knoweth that against him Saul is devising the evil, and saith unto Abiathar the priest, `Bring nigh the ephod.'

10 E t David dit: Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, ton serviteur apprend que Saül veut venir à Keïla pour détruire la ville à cause de moi.

And David saith, `Jehovah, God of Israel, Thy servant hath certainly heard that Saul is seeking to come in unto Keilah, to destroy the city on mine account.

11 L es habitants de Keïla me livreront-ils entre ses mains? Saül descendra-t-il, comme ton serviteur l'a appris? Éternel, Dieu d'Israël, daigne le révéler à ton serviteur! Et l'Éternel répondit: Il descendra.

Do the possessors of Keilah shut me up into his hand? doth Saul come down as Thy servant hath heard? Jehovah, God of Israel, declare, I pray Thee, to Thy servant.' And Jehovah saith, `He doth come down.'

12 D avid dit encore: Les habitants de Keïla me livreront-ils, moi et mes gens, entre les mains de Saül? Et l'Éternel répondit: Ils te livreront.

And David saith, `Do the possessors of Keilah shut me up, and my men, into the hand of Saul?' And Jehovah saith, `They shut up.'

13 A lors David se leva avec ses gens au nombre d'environ six cents hommes; ils sortirent de Keïla, et s'en allèrent où ils purent. Saül, informé que David s'était sauvé de Keïla, suspendit sa marche.

And David riseth -- and his men -- about six hundred men, and they go out from Keilah, and go up and down where they go up and down; and to Saul it hath been declared that David hath escaped from Keilah, and he ceaseth to go out.

14 D avid demeura au désert, dans des lieux forts, et il resta sur la montagne du désert de Ziph. Saül le cherchait toujours, mais Dieu ne le livra pas entre ses mains.

And David abideth in the wilderness, in fortresses, and abideth in the hill-country, in the wilderness of Ziph; and Saul seeketh him all the days, and God hath not given him into his hand.

15 D avid, voyant Saül en marche pour attenter à sa vie, se tint au désert de Ziph, dans la forêt.

And David seeth that Saul hath come out to seek his life, and David in the wilderness of Ziph, in a forest.

16 C e fut alors que Jonathan, fils de Saül, se leva et alla vers David dans la forêt. Il fortifia sa confiance en Dieu,

And Jonathan son of Saul riseth, and goeth unto David to the forest, and strengtheneth his hand in God,

17 e t lui dit: Ne crains rien, car la main de Saül, mon père, ne t'atteindra pas. Tu régneras sur Israël, et moi je serai au second rang près de toi; Saül, mon père, le sait bien aussi.

and saith unto him, `Fear not, for the hand of Saul my father doth not find thee, and thou dost reign over Israel, and I am to thee for second, and also so knoweth Saul my father.'

18 I ls firent tous deux alliance devant l'Éternel; et David resta dans la forêt, et Jonathan s'en alla chez lui.

And they make a covenant both of them before Jehovah; and David abideth in the forest, and Jonathan hath gone to his house.

19 L es Ziphiens montèrent auprès de Saül à Guibea, et dirent: David n'est-il pas caché parmi nous dans des lieux forts, dans la forêt, sur la colline de Hakila, qui est au midi du désert?

And the Ziphites go up unto Saul to Gibeah, saying, `Is not David hiding himself with us in fortresses, in the forest, in the height of Hachilah, which on the south of the desolate place?

20 D escends donc, ô roi, puisque c'est là tout le désir de ton âme; et à nous de le livrer entre les mains du roi.

And, now, by all the desire of thy soul, O king, to come down, come down, and ours to shut him up into the hand of the king.'

21 S aül dit: Que l'Éternel vous bénisse de ce que vous avez pitié de moi!

And Saul saith, `Blessed ye of Jehovah, for ye have pity on me;

22 A llez, je vous prie, prenez encore des informations pour savoir et découvrir dans quel lieu il a dirigé ses pas et qui l'y a vu, car il est, m'a-t-on dit, fort rusé.

go, I pray you, prepare yet, and know and see his place where his foot is; who hath seen him there? for hath said unto me, He is very subtile.

23 E xaminez et reconnaissez tous les lieux où il se cache, puis revenez vers moi avec quelque chose de certain, et je partirai avec vous. S'il est dans le pays, je le chercherai parmi tous les milliers de Juda.

And see and know of all the hiding-places where he hideth himself, and ye have turned back unto me prepared, and I have gone with you, and it hath been, if he is in the land, that I have searched him out through all the thousands of Judah.'

24 I ls se levèrent donc et allèrent à Ziph avant Saül. David et ses gens étaient au désert de Maon, dans la plaine au midi du désert.

And they rise and go to Ziph before Saul, and David and his men in the wilderness of Maon, in the plain, at the south of the desolate place.

25 S aül partit avec ses gens à la recherche de David. Et l'on en informa David, qui descendit le rocher et resta dans le désert de Maon. Saül, l'ayant appris, poursuivit David au désert de Maon.

And Saul and his men go to seek, and they declare to David, and he goeth down the rock, and abideth in the wilderness of Maon; and Saul heareth, and pursueth after David the wilderness of Maon.

26 S aül marchait d'un côté de la montagne, et David avec ses gens de l'autre côté de la montagne. David fuyait précipitamment pour échapper à Saül. Mais déjà Saül et ses gens entouraient David et les siens pour s'emparer d'eux,

And Saul goeth on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain, and David is hastened to go from the face of Saul, and Saul and his men are compassing David and his men, to catch them.

27 l orsqu'un messager vint dire à Saül: Hâte-toi de venir, car les Philistins ont fait invasion dans le pays.

And a messenger hath come in unto Saul, saying, `Haste, and come, for the Philistines have pushed against the land.'

28 S aül cessa de poursuivre David, et il s'en retourna pour aller à la rencontre des Philistins. C'est pourquoi l'on appela ce lieu Séla Hammachlekoth.

And Saul turneth back from pursuing after David, and goeth to meet the Philistines, therefore they have called that place `The Rock of Divisions.'

29 ( 24: 1) De là David monta vers les lieux forts d'En Guédi, où il demeura.

And David goeth up thence, and abideth in fortresses En-gedi.
