1 T oute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël partit d'Élim, et ils arrivèrent au désert de Sin, qui est entre Élim et Sinaï, le quinzième jour du second mois après leur sortie du pays d'Égypte.

And they journey from Elim, and all the company of the sons of Israel come in unto the wilderness of Sin, which between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month of their going out from the land of Egypt.

2 E t toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël murmura dans le désert contre Moïse et Aaron.

And all the company of the sons of Israel murmur against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness;

3 L es enfants d'Israël leur dirent: Que ne sommes-nous morts par la main de l'Éternel dans le pays d'Égypte, quand nous étions assis près des pots de viande, quand nous mangions du pain à satiété? car vous nous avez menés dans ce désert pour faire mourir de faim toute cette multitude.

and the sons of Israel say unto them, `Oh that we had died by the hand of Jehovah in the land of Egypt, in our sitting by the flesh-pot, in our eating bread to satiety -- for ye have brought us out unto this wilderness to put all this assembly to death with hunger.'

4 L 'Éternel dit à Moïse: Voici, je ferai pleuvoir pour vous du pain, du haut des cieux. Le peuple sortira, et en ramassera, jour par jour, la quantité nécessaire, afin que je le mette à l'épreuve, et que je voie s'il marchera, ou non, selon ma loi.

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Lo, I am raining to you bread from the heavens -- and the people have gone out and gathered the matter of a day in its day -- so that I try them whether they walk in My law, or not;

5 L e sixième jour, lorsqu'ils prépareront ce qu'ils auront apporté, il s'en trouvera le double de ce qu'ils ramasseront jour par jour.

and it hath been on the sixth day, that they have prepared that which they bring in, and it hath been double above that which they gather day day.'

6 M oïse et Aaron dirent à tous les enfants d'Israël: Ce soir, vous comprendrez que c'est l'Éternel qui vous a fait sortir du pays d'Égypte.

And Moses saith -- Aaron also -- unto all the sons of Israel, `Evening -- and ye have known that Jehovah hath brought you out from the land of Egypt;

7 E t, au matin, vous verrez la gloire de l'Éternel, parce qu'il a entendu vos murmures contre l'Éternel; car que sommes-nous, pour que vous murmuriez contre nous?

and morning -- and ye have seen the honour of Jehovah, in His hearing your murmurings against Jehovah, and what we, that ye murmur against us?'

8 M oïse dit: L'Éternel vous donnera ce soir de la viande à manger, et au matin du pain à satiété, parce que l'Éternel a entendu les murmures que vous avez proférés contre lui; car que sommes-nous? Ce n'est pas contre nous que sont vos murmures, c'est contre l'Éternel.

And Moses saith, `In Jehovah's giving to you in the evening flesh to eat, and bread in the morning to satiety -- in Jehovah's hearing your murmurings, which ye are murmuring against Him, and what we? your murmurings not against us, but against Jehovah.'

9 M oïse dit à Aaron: Dis à toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël: Approchez-vous devant l'Éternel, car il a entendu vos murmures.

And Moses saith unto Aaron, `Say unto all the company of the sons of Israel, Come ye near before Jehovah, for He hath heard your murmurings;'

10 E t tandis qu'Aaron parlait à toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël, ils se tournèrent du côté du désert, et voici, la gloire de l'Éternel parut dans la nuée.

and it cometh to pass, when Aaron is speaking unto all the company of the sons of Israel, that they turn towards the wilderness, and lo, the honour of Jehovah is seen in the cloud.

11 L 'Éternel, s'adressant à Moïse, dit:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

12 J 'ai entendu les murmures des enfants d'Israël. Dis-leur: Entre les deux soirs vous mangerez de la viande, et au matin vous vous rassasierez de pain; et vous saurez que je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu.

`I have heard the murmurings of the sons of Israel; speak unto them, saying, Between the evenings ye eat flesh, and in the morning ye are satisfied bread, and ye have known that I Jehovah your God.'

13 L e soir, il survint des cailles qui couvrirent le camp; et, au matin, il y eut une couche de rosée autour du camp.

And it cometh to pass in the evening, that the quail cometh up, and covereth the camp, and in the morning there hath been the lying of dew round about the camp,

14 Q uand cette rosée fut dissipée, il y avait à la surface du désert quelque chose de menu comme des grains, quelque chose de menu comme la gelée blanche sur la terre.

and the lying of the dew goeth up, and lo, on the face of the wilderness a thin, bare thing, thin as hoar-frost on the earth.

15 L es enfants d'Israël regardèrent et ils se dirent l'un à l'autre: Qu'est-ce que cela? car ils ne savaient pas ce que c'était. Moïse leur dit: C'est le pain que L'Éternel vous donne pour nourriture.

And the sons of Israel see, and say one unto another, `What it?' for they have not known what it; and Moses saith unto them, `It the bread which Jehovah hath given to you for food.

16 V oici ce que l'Éternel a ordonné: Que chacun de vous en ramasse ce qu'il faut pour sa nourriture, un omer par tête, suivant le nombre de vos personnes; chacun en prendra pour ceux qui sont dans sa tente.

`This the thing which Jehovah hath commanded: Gather of it each according to his eating, an omer for a poll; and the number of your persons, take ye each for those in his tent.'

17 L es Israélites firent ainsi; et ils en ramassèrent les uns en plus, les autres moins.

And the sons of Israel do so, and they gather, he who is much, and he who is little;

18 O n mesurait ensuite avec l'omer; celui qui avait ramassé plus n'avait rien de trop, et celui qui avait ramassé moins n'en manquait pas. Chacun ramassait ce qu'il fallait pour sa nourriture.

and they measure with an omer, and he who is much hath nothing over, and he who is little hath no lack, each according to his eating they have gathered.

19 M oïse leur dit: Que personne n'en laisse jusqu'au matin.

And Moses saith unto them, `Let no man leave of it till morning;'

20 I ls n'écoutèrent pas Moïse, et il y eut des gens qui en laissèrent jusqu'au matin; mais il s'y mit des vers, et cela devint infect. Moïse fut irrité contre ces gens.

and they have not hearkened unto Moses, and some of them do leave of it till morning, and it bringeth up worms and stinketh; and Moses is wroth with them.

21 T ous les matins, chacun ramassait ce qu'il fallait pour sa nourriture; et quand venait la chaleur du soleil, cela fondait.

And they gather it morning by morning, each according to his eating; when the sun hath been warm, then it hath melted.

22 L e sixième jour, ils ramassèrent une quantité double de nourriture, deux omers pour chacun. Tous les principaux de l'assemblée vinrent le rapporter à Moïse.

And it cometh to pass on the sixth day, they have gathered a second bread, two omers for one, and all the princes of the company come in, and declare to Moses.

23 E t Moïse leur dit: C'est ce que l'Éternel a ordonné. Demain est le jour du repos, le sabbat consacré à l'Éternel; faites cuire ce que vous avez à faire cuire, faites bouillir ce que vous avez à faire bouillir, et mettez en réserve jusqu'au matin tout ce qui restera.

And he saith unto them, `It that which Jehovah hath spoken; a rest -- a holy sabbath to Jehovah -- to-morrow; that which ye bake, bake; and that which ye boil, boil; and all that is over, let rest for yourselves in charge till the morning.'

24 I ls le laissèrent jusqu'au matin, comme Moïse l'avait ordonné; et cela ne devint point infect, et il ne s'y mit point de vers.

And they let it rest until the morning, as Moses hath commanded, and it hath not stank, and a worm hath not been in it.

25 M oïse dit: Mangez-le aujourd'hui, car c'est le jour du sabbat; aujourd'hui vous n'en trouverez point dans la campagne.

And Moses saith, `Eat it to-day, for to-day a sabbath to Jehovah; to-day ye find it not in the field:

26 P endant six jours vous en ramasserez; mais le septième jour, qui est le sabbat, il n'y en aura point.

six days ye do gather it, and in the seventh day -- the sabbath -- in it there is none.'

27 L e septième jour, quelques-uns du peuple sortirent pour en ramasser, et ils n'en trouvèrent point.

And it cometh to pass on the seventh day, some of the people have gone out to gather, and have not found.

28 A lors l'Éternel dit à Moïse: Jusques à quand refuserez-vous d'observer mes commandements et mes lois?

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `How long have ye refused to keep My commands, and My laws?

29 C onsidérez que l'Éternel vous a donné le sabbat; c'est pourquoi il vous donne au sixième jour de la nourriture pour deux jours. Que chacun reste à sa place, et que personne ne sorte du lieu où il est au septième jour.

see, because Jehovah hath given to you the sabbath, therefore He is giving to you on the sixth day bread of two days; abide ye each his place, no one doth go out from his place on the seventh day.'

30 E t le peuple se reposa le septième jour.

And the people rest on the seventh day,

31 L a maison d'Israël donna à cette nourriture le nom de manne. Elle ressemblait à de la graine de coriandre; elle était blanche, et avait le goût d'un gâteau au miel.

and the house of Israel call its name Manna, and it as coriander seed, white; and its taste as a cake with honey.

32 M oïse dit: Voici ce que l'Éternel a ordonné: Qu'un omer rempli de manne soit conservé pour vos descendants, afin qu'ils voient le pain que je vous ai fait manger dans le désert, après vous avoir fait sortir du pays d'Égypte.

And Moses saith, `This the thing which Jehovah hath commanded: Fill the omer with it, for a charge for your generations, so that they see the bread which I have caused you to eat in the wilderness, in My bringing you out from the land of Egypt.'

33 E t Moïse dit à Aaron: Prends un vase, mets-y de la manne plein un omer, et dépose-le devant l'Éternel, afin qu'il soit conservé pour vos descendants.

And Moses saith unto Aaron, `Take one pot, and put there the fulness of the omer of manna, and let it rest before Jehovah, for a charge for your generations;'

34 S uivant l'ordre donné par l'Éternel à Moïse, Aaron le déposa devant le témoignage, afin qu'il fût conservé.

as Jehovah hath given commandment unto Moses, so doth Aaron let it rest before the Testimony, for a charge.

35 L es enfants d'Israël mangèrent la manne pendant quarante ans, jusqu'à leur arrivée dans un pays habité; ils mangèrent la manne jusqu'à leur arrivée aux frontières du pays de Canaan.

And the sons of Israel have eaten the manna forty years, until their coming in unto the land to be inhabited; the manna they have eaten till their coming in unto the extremity of the land of Canaan.

36 L 'omer est la dixième partie de l'épha.

and the omer is a tenth of the ephah.
