1 و َارتَحَلُوا مِنْ إيلِيمَ، وَأتَى كُلُّ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ إلَى صَحْراءِ سِينَ، الواقِعَةِ بَينَ إيلِيمَ وَسِيناءَ. كانَ ذَلِكَ فِي اليَومِ الخامِسَ عَشَرَ مِنَ الشَّهرِ الثّانِي بَعدَ الخُرُوجِ مِنْ أرْضِ مِصرَ.

And they journey from Elim, and all the company of the sons of Israel come in unto the wilderness of Sin, which between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month of their going out from the land of Egypt.

2 و َتَذَمَّرَ كُلُّ بَني إسْرائِيلَ عَلَى مُوسَى وَهارُونَ فِي الصَّحْراءِ.

And all the company of the sons of Israel murmur against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness;

3 و َقالَ بَنُو إسْرائِيلَ لَهُما: «يا لَيتَنا مِتْنا بِيَدِ اللهِ فِي أرْضِ مِصرَ، حَيثُ كُنّا نَجلِسُ بِجانِبِ قُدُورِ اللَّحمِ، وَنَأْكُلُ خُبزاً إلَى الشَّبَعِ. قَدْ أحضَرْتُمانا إلَى هَذِهِ الصَّحْراءِ لِتَقتُلا الشَّعبَ بِالجُوعِ.»

and the sons of Israel say unto them, `Oh that we had died by the hand of Jehovah in the land of Egypt, in our sitting by the flesh-pot, in our eating bread to satiety -- for ye have brought us out unto this wilderness to put all this assembly to death with hunger.'

4 ف َقالَ اللهُ لِمُوسَى: «سَأُمطِرُ خُبزاً عَلَيكُمْ مِنَ السَّماءِ. وَسَيَخرُجُ الشَّعبُ مِنْ بُيُوتِهِمْ لِيَجمَعُوا حاجَةَ كُلِّ يَومٍ بِيَومِهِ، لِأمتَحِنَهُمْ وَأرَى إنْ كانُوا يُطِيعُونَ شَرِيعَتِي أمْ لا.

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Lo, I am raining to you bread from the heavens -- and the people have gone out and gathered the matter of a day in its day -- so that I try them whether they walk in My law, or not;

5 و َفِي اليَومِ السّادِسِ، عِنْدَما يُجَهِّزُونَ طَعَامَهُمْ، سَيَجِدُونَ أنَّ لَديهِمْ ضِعفَ ما يَجمَعُونَهُ فِي أيِّ يَومٍ آخَرَ.»

and it hath been on the sixth day, that they have prepared that which they bring in, and it hath been double above that which they gather day day.'

6 و َقالَ مُوسَى وَهارُونُ لِكُلِّ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ: «فِي المَساءِ سَتُدْرِكُونَ أنَّ اللهَ أخرَجَكُمْ مِنْ أرْضِ مِصرَ.

And Moses saith -- Aaron also -- unto all the sons of Israel, `Evening -- and ye have known that Jehovah hath brought you out from the land of Egypt;

7 و َفِي الصَّباحِ سَتَرَوْنَ مَجدَ اللهَ لِأنَّهُ سَمِعَ تَذَمُّرَكُمْ عَلَيهِ. وَأمّا نَحنُ فَمَنْ نَكُونُ كَي تَتَذَمَّرُوا عَلَينا؟»

and morning -- and ye have seen the honour of Jehovah, in His hearing your murmurings against Jehovah, and what we, that ye murmur against us?'

8 و َقالَ مُوسَى: «سَيُعطِيكُمُ اللهُ لَحماً لِتَأْكُلُوا فِي المَساءِ، وَخُبزاً فِي الصَّباحِ لِتَشبَعُوا، لِأنَّ اللهَ سَمِعَ تَذَمُّرَكُمُ الَّذِي تَتَذَمَّرُونَ بِهِ عَلَيهِ، وَأمّا نَحنُ فَمَنْ نَكُونُ؟ تَذَمُّرُكُمْ لَيسَ عَلَينا بَلْ عَلَى اللهِ.»

And Moses saith, `In Jehovah's giving to you in the evening flesh to eat, and bread in the morning to satiety -- in Jehovah's hearing your murmurings, which ye are murmuring against Him, and what we? your murmurings not against us, but against Jehovah.'

9 و َقالَ مُوسَى لِهارُونَ: «قُلْ لِكُلِّ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ: ‹اقتَرِبُوا إلَى اللهِ فَقَدْ سَمِعَ تَذَمُّرَكُمْ.›»

And Moses saith unto Aaron, `Say unto all the company of the sons of Israel, Come ye near before Jehovah, for He hath heard your murmurings;'

10 و َحِينَ كَلَّمَ هارُونُ كُلَّ بَني إسْرائِيلَ، التَفَتُوا نَحوَ الصَّحْراءِ فَرَأَوْا مَجدَ اللهِ ظاهِراً فِي السَّحابِ.

and it cometh to pass, when Aaron is speaking unto all the company of the sons of Israel, that they turn towards the wilderness, and lo, the honour of Jehovah is seen in the cloud.

11 و َكَلَّمَ اللهُ مُوسَى فَقالَ:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

12 « قَدْ سَمِعْتُ تَذَمُّرَ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ. قُلْ لَهُمْ: ‹فِي المَساءِ سَتَأكُلُونَ لَحماً، وَفِي الصَّباحِ سَتَشبَعُونَ مِنَ الخُبزِ، كَي تَعرِفُوا أنِّي أنا إلَهُكُمْ.›»

`I have heard the murmurings of the sons of Israel; speak unto them, saying, Between the evenings ye eat flesh, and in the morning ye are satisfied bread, and ye have known that I Jehovah your God.'

13 و َفِي المَساءِ أتَتْ طُيُورُ السَّلوَى وَغَطَّتِ المُخَيَّمَ. وَفِي الصَّباحِ، كانَتْ هُناكَ طَبَقَةٌ مِنَ النَّدَى حَولَ المُخَيَّمِ.

And it cometh to pass in the evening, that the quail cometh up, and covereth the camp, and in the morning there hath been the lying of dew round about the camp,

14 و َحِينَ اختَفَتْ طَبَقَةُ النَّدَى، ظَهَرَتْ طَبَقَةٌ رَقِيقَةٌ مِنَ الجَلِيدِ عَلَى الأرْضِ.

and the lying of the dew goeth up, and lo, on the face of the wilderness a thin, bare thing, thin as hoar-frost on the earth.

15 ف َحِينَ رَأى بَنو إسْرائِيلَ هَذا الشِّيءَ قالَ بَعضُهُمْ لِبَعضٍ: «ما هَذا؟» لِأنَّهُمْ لَمْ يَكُونُوا يَعرِفُونَ ما هُوَ. فَقالَ مُوسَى لَهُمْ: «إنَّهُ الخُبزُ الَّذِي أعطاهُ اللهُ لَكُمْ لِتَأكُلُوهُ.

And the sons of Israel see, and say one unto another, `What it?' for they have not known what it; and Moses saith unto them, `It the bread which Jehovah hath given to you for food.

16 ف َهَذا هُوَ ما أمَرَ بِهِ اللهُ: ‹لِيَجمَعْ كُلُّ واحِدٍ ما يَستَطِيعُ أكلَهُ. اجمَعُوا مِلْءَ سَلَّةٍ لِكُلِّ واحِدٍ، بِحَسَبِ عَدَدِ الأفْرادِ الَّذِينَ فِي خَيمَتِهِ.›»

`This the thing which Jehovah hath commanded: Gather of it each according to his eating, an omer for a poll; and the number of your persons, take ye each for those in his tent.'

17 ف َعَمِلَ بَنو إسْرائِيلَ بِحَسَبِ هَذا الكَلامِ، فَجَمَعَ بَعضُهُمُ الكَثِيرَ، وَجَمَعَ بَعضُهُمُ القَلِيلَ.

And the sons of Israel do so, and they gather, he who is much, and he who is little;

18 و َحِينَ قاسُوا كَمِّيّاتِ الطَّعامِ بِالسِلالِ، وَجَدوا أنَّ الَّذِينَ جَمَعُوا كَثِيراً لَمْ يَفِيضُوا عَنْ حاجَتِهِمْ، وَالَّذِينَ جَمَعُوا قَليلاً لَمْ يَنْقُصْهُمْ شَيءٌ. فَقَدْ جَمَعَ كُلُّ واحِدٍ حَسَبَ احْتِياجِهِ.

and they measure with an omer, and he who is much hath nothing over, and he who is little hath no lack, each according to his eating they have gathered.

19 و َقالَ مُوسَى لَهُمْ: «لا تُبقُوا مِنهُ شَيئاً إلَى الصَّباحِ.»

And Moses saith unto them, `Let no man leave of it till morning;'

20 ل َكِنَّهُمْ لَمْ يَستَمِعُوا لِمُوسَى، فَتَرَكَ بَعضُهُمْ شَيئاً مِنهُ إلَى الصَّباحِ، فَظَهَرَ فِيهِ دُودٌ وَأنتَنَ. حِينَئِذٍ، غَضِبَ مُوسَى عَلَيهِمْ.

and they have not hearkened unto Moses, and some of them do leave of it till morning, and it bringeth up worms and stinketh; and Moses is wroth with them.

21 و َفِي كُلِّ صَباحٍ، كانَ كُلُّ واحِدٍ مِنهُمْ يَجمَعُ بِحَسَبِ قُدرَتِهِ عَلَى الأكلِ. وَحِينَ كانَتِ حَرارَةُ الشَّمسِ تَزيدُ، يَذُوبُ الطَّعامُ.

And they gather it morning by morning, each according to his eating; when the sun hath been warm, then it hath melted.

22 و َكانُوا فِي اليَومِ السّادِسِ يَجمَعُونَ ضِعفَ الكَمِّيَّةِ المُعتادَةِ، مِلْءَ سَلَّتَيْنِ لِكُلِّ فَردٍ. فَجاءَ كُلُّ رُؤَساءِ الشَّعبِ وَأخبَرُوا مُوسَى.

And it cometh to pass on the sixth day, they have gathered a second bread, two omers for one, and all the princes of the company come in, and declare to Moses.

23 ف َقالَ لَهُمْ: «هَذا ما أمَرَ اللهُ بِهِ: ‹غَداً هُوَ السَّبتُ، يَومُ راحَةٍ مُقَدَّسَةٍ للهِ. اخبِزُوا قَدْرَ ما تُرِيدُونَ، وَاسلِقُوا قَدْرَ ما تُرِيدُونَ، وَاحتَفِظُوا بِما يَتَبَقَّى إلَى الصَّباحِ.›»

And he saith unto them, `It that which Jehovah hath spoken; a rest -- a holy sabbath to Jehovah -- to-morrow; that which ye bake, bake; and that which ye boil, boil; and all that is over, let rest for yourselves in charge till the morning.'

24 ف َاحْتَفَظُوا بِهِ حَتَّى الصَّباحِ كَما أمَرَ مُوسَى، وَلَمْ يُنتِنْ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ فِيهِ دُودٌ.

And they let it rest until the morning, as Moses hath commanded, and it hath not stank, and a worm hath not been in it.

25 و َقالَ مُوسَى: «كُلُوهُ اليَومَ، لِأنَّ اليَومَ سَبتٌ للهِ. لَنْ تَجِدُوهُ اليَومَ فِي الحَقلِ.

And Moses saith, `Eat it to-day, for to-day a sabbath to Jehovah; to-day ye find it not in the field:

26 ت َجمَعُونَهُ سِتَّةَ أيّامٍ، لَكِنْ فِي اليَومِ السّابِعِ، يَومِ السَّبتِ، لَنْ تَجِدُوهُ.»

six days ye do gather it, and in the seventh day -- the sabbath -- in it there is none.'

27 و َفِي اليَومِ السّابِعِ خَرَجَ بَعضُ النّاسِ لِيَجمَعُوا المَنَّ، لَكِنَّهُمْ لَمْ يَجِدُوا.

And it cometh to pass on the seventh day, some of the people have gone out to gather, and have not found.

28 و َقالَ اللهُ لِمُوسَى: «إلَى مَتَى تَرفُضُونَ إطاعَةَ وَصايايَ وَشَرائِعِي؟

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `How long have ye refused to keep My commands, and My laws?

29 ه ا إنَّ اللهَ أعطاكُمُ السَّبتَ، وَلِهَذا فَهُوَ يُعطِيكُمْ طَعاماً لِيَومَينِ فِي اليَومِ السّادِسِ. عَلَى كُلِّ واحِدٍ مِنكُمْ أنْ يَبقَى فِي البَيتِ. لا يَخرُجْ أحَدٌ مِنْ مَكانِهِ فِي اليَومِ السّابِعِ.»

see, because Jehovah hath given to you the sabbath, therefore He is giving to you on the sixth day bread of two days; abide ye each his place, no one doth go out from his place on the seventh day.'

30 ف َاسْتَراحَ الشَّعبُ فِي اليَومِ السّابِعِ.

And the people rest on the seventh day,

31 و َسَمَّى بَنو إسْرائِيلَ ذَلِكَ الطَّعامَ «مَنَّ.» وَهُوَ يُشبِهُ بُذُورَ الكُزبَرَةِ، وَلَونُهُ أبْيَضُ، وَطَعمُهُ كَكَعكٍ بِالعَسَلِ.

and the house of Israel call its name Manna, and it as coriander seed, white; and its taste as a cake with honey.

32 و َقالَ مُوسَى: «هَذا ما أمَرَ اللهُ بِهِ: ‹احْتَفِظُوا بِمِلءِ سَلَّةٍ مِنَ المَنِّ لِأجلِ أجيالِكُمْ فِي المُستَقبَلِ، لِكَي يَرَوا الخُبزَ الَّذِي أعطَيتُهُ لَكُمْ لِتَأكُلُوهُ فِي الصَّحْراءِ حِينَ أخرَجتُكُمْ مِنْ أرْضِ مِصرَ.›»

And Moses saith, `This the thing which Jehovah hath commanded: Fill the omer with it, for a charge for your generations, so that they see the bread which I have caused you to eat in the wilderness, in My bringing you out from the land of Egypt.'

33 و َقالَ مُوسَى لِهارُونَ: «خُذْ مِلءَ سَلَّةٍ مِنَ المَنِّ، وَضَعْهُ فِي حَضرَةِ اللهِ لِلاحتِفاظِ بِهِ لِأجيالِكُمْ فِي المُستَقبَلِ.»

And Moses saith unto Aaron, `Take one pot, and put there the fulness of the omer of manna, and let it rest before Jehovah, for a charge for your generations;'

34 ف َوَضَعَهُ هارُونُ أمامَ صَنْدُوقِ الشَّهادَةِ لِحِفظِهِ كَما أمَرَ اللهُ مُوسَى.

as Jehovah hath given commandment unto Moses, so doth Aaron let it rest before the Testimony, for a charge.

35 و َأكَلَ بَنو إسْرائِيلَ المَنَّ لِأربَعِينَ سَنَةً، إلَى أنْ جاءُوا إلَى أرْضٍ مَسكُونَةٍ. أكَلُوا المَنَّ إلَى أنْ أتَوْا إلَى حُدُودِ أرْضِ كَنعانَ.

And the sons of Israel have eaten the manna forty years, until their coming in unto the land to be inhabited; the manna they have eaten till their coming in unto the extremity of the land of Canaan.

36 و َكانَ حَجمُ السَّلَّةِ نَحْوَ عُشْرِ القُفَّةِ.

and the omer is a tenth of the ephah.
