1 و َبَعدَ خَمسَةِ أيّامٍ نَزَلَ رَئِيسُ الكَهَنَةِ حَنانِيّا إلَى قَيصَرِيَّةَ مَعَ بَعضِ الشُّيُوخِ وَمُحامٍ اسْمُهُ تَرْتُلُّسَ. فَعَرَضُوا تُهَمَهُمْ ضِدَّ بُولُسَ أمامَ الوالِي.

And after five days came down the chief priest Ananias, with the elders, and a certain orator -- Tertullus, and they made manifest to the governor against Paul;

2 و َعِندَما استُدعِيَ بُولُسُ، بَدَأ تَرْتُلُّسُ يُقَدِّمُ التُّهَمَ أمامَ فِيلِكْسَ فَقالَ: «إنَّنا نَتَمَتَّعُ بِقِسطٍ وافِرٍ مِنَ السَّلامِ بِسَبَبِكَ، وَالإصلاحاتُ الَّتِي أُدخِلَتْ مِنْ أجلِ هَذا الشَّعبِ كانَتْ بِفَضلِ بُعدِ نَظَرِكَ.

and he having been called, Tertullus began to accuse, saying, `Much peace enjoying through thee, and worthy deeds being done to this nation through thy forethought,

3 ن َحنُ نُرَحِّبُ بِهَذا يا صاحِبَ السَّعادَةِ فِيلِكسَ، بِكُلِّ طَرِيقَةٍ وَفِي كُلِّ مَكانٍ، وَكُلِّ امتِنانٍ.

always, also, and everywhere we receive it, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness;

4 ل َكِنْ لِئَلّا أُثقِلَ عَلَيكَ أكثَرَ، فَإنِّي أرجُو أنْ تَتَلَطَّفَ بِالاستِماعِ إلَى كَلِمَتِي المُوجَزَةَ.

and that I may not be further tedious to thee, I pray thee to hear us concisely in thy gentleness;

5 ف َقَدْ وَجَدنا هَذا الرَّجُلَ مَصدَرَ إزعاجٍ. وَهُوَ يُثِيرُ الشَّغَبَ بَينَ اليَهُودِ فِي كُلِّ أنحاءِ العالَمِ. وَهُوَ مِنْ قادَةِ مَذهَبِ النّاصِرِيِّينَ.

for having found this man a pestilence, and moving a dissension to all the Jews through the world -- a ringleader also of the sect of the Nazarenes --

6 ك َما أنَّهُ حاوَلَ أنْ يُنَجِّسَ الهَيكَلَ، لَكِنَّنا أمسَكنا بِهِ، وَأرَدْنا أنْ نُحاكِمَهُ بِحَسَبِ شَريعَتِنا.

who also the temple did try to profane, whom also we took, and according to our law did wish to judge,

7 ل َكِنَّ الآمِرَ لِيسياسَ جاءَ وَانتَزَعَهُ مِنْ أيْدينا بِقُوَّةٍ،

and Lysias the chief captain having come near, with much violence, out of our hands did take away,

8 و َأمَرَ المُشتَكينَ عَليهِ بَأنْ يَأتوا إليكَ. فَحِينَ تُحَقِّقُ مَعَهُ بِنَفسِكَ، سَتَعلَمُ مِنهُ كُلَّ الأُمُورِ الَّتِي نَتَّهِمُهُ بِها.»

having commanded his accusers to come to thee, from whom thou mayest be able, thyself having examined, to know concerning all these things of which we accuse him;'

9 و َانضَمَّ إلَيهِ اليَهُودُ فِي تَوجِيهِ الاتِّهاماتِ، مُؤَكِّدِينَ أنَّ كُلَّ هَذِهِ الاتِّهاماتِ صَحِيحَةٌ. بُولُسُ يُدافِعُ عَنْ نَفسِهِ أمامَ فِيلِكس

and the Jews also agreed, professing these things to be so.

10 ف َلَمّا أشارَ الوالِي لِبُولُسَ أنْ يَتَكَلَّمَ قالَ: «أنا أعرِفُ أنَّكَ قاضٍ لِهَذِهِ الأُمَّةِ مُنذُ سَنَواتٍ كَثِيرَةٍ، لِذَلِكَ يَسُرُّنِي أنْ أُدافِعَ عَنْ نَفسِي أمامَكَ.

And Paul answered -- the governor having beckoned to him to speak -- `Knowing for many years thou hast been a judge to this nation, the more cheerfully the things concerning myself I do answer;

11 و َيُمكِنُكَ أنْ تَتَحَقَّقَ مِنْ صِحَّةِ ما أقُولُ. لَمْ يَمضِ عَلَى ذَهابِي إلَى القُدسِ لِلعِبادَةِ أكثَرُ مِنِ اثنَي عَشَرَ يَوماً.

thou being able to know that it is not more than twelve days to me since I went up to worship in Jerusalem,

12 و َلَمْ يَجِدُونِي أُجادِلُ أحَداً فِي ساحَةِ الهَيكَلِ. وَلا وَجَدُونِي أُهَيِّجُ النّاسَ لا فِي المَجامِعِ وَلا فِي أيِّ مَكانٍ آخَرَ مِنَ المَدِينَةِ.

and neither in the temple did they find me reasoning with any one, or making a dissension of the multitude, nor in the synagogues, nor in the city;

13 و َهُمْ لا يَقدِرُونَ أنْ يُثبِتُوا لَكَ صِحَّةَ الاتِّهاماتِ الَّتِي يُوَجِّهُونَها ضِدِّي.

nor are they able to prove against me the things concerning which they now accuse me.

14 « غَيرَ أنِّي أعتَرِفُ لَكَ بِأنِّي أعبُدُ إلَهَ آبائِنا حَسَبَ «الطَّرِيقِ» الَّذِي يَعتَبِرونَهُ هَرطَقَةً. وَأنا أُومِنُ بِكُلِّ ما تَقُولُهُ الشَّرِيعَةُ وَما هُوَ مَكتُوبٌ فِي كُتُبِ الأنبِياءِ.

`And I confess this to thee, that, according to the way that they call a sect, so serve I the God of the fathers, believing all things that in the law and the prophets have been written,

15 و َأنا أشتَرِكُ مَعَ هَؤُلاءِ الرِّجالِ أنفُسِهِمْ فِي الرَّجاءِ بِاللهِ. وَهَذا الرَّجاءُ هُوَ أنَّهُ سَتَكُونُ هُناكَ قِيامَةٌ لِلصّالِحِينَ وَالأشرارِ مَعاً.

having hope toward God, which they themselves also wait for, there is about to be a rising again of the dead, both of righteous and unrighteous;

16 و َلِهَذا فَإنِّي أُدَرِّبُ نَفسِي دائِماً لِيَكُونَ ضَمِيرِي بِلا لَومٍ أمامَ اللهِ وَالنّاسِ.

and in this I do exercise myself, to have a conscience void of offence toward God and men always.

17 « فَبَعدَ غِيابِ عِدَّةِ سَنَواتٍ، رَجِعتُ إلَى القُدسِ لِأُحضِرَ تَبَرُّعاتٍ لِلفُقَراءَ مِنْ جَماعَتِي، وَلِأُقَدِّمَ تَقدِماتٍ للهِ.

`And after many years I came, about to do kind acts to my nation, and offerings,

18 و َبَينَما كُنتُ أفعَلُ هَذا، وَجَدُونِي فِي ساحَةِ الهَيكَلِ أُكمِلُ طَقسَ التَّطهِيرِ. وَلَمْ يَكُنْ هُناكَ جَمعٌ وَلا حَدَثَ شَغَبٌ.

in which certain Jews from Asia did find me purified in the temple, not with multitude, nor with tumult,

19 ب َلْ كانَ بَعضُ اليَهُودِ مِنْ أسِيّا مَوجُودِينَ هُناكَ. أُولَئِكَ يَنبَغِي أنْ يَأتُوا إلَيكَ، وَيُقَدِّمُوا اتِّهامَهُمْ، إنْ كانَ لَدَيهِمْ شَيءٌ ضِدِّي.

whom it behoveth to be present before thee, and to accuse, if they had anything against me,

20 أ وْ لِيَتَحَدَّثْ هَؤُلاءِ الحاضِرُونَ هُنا عَنْ أيَّةِ جَرِيمَةٍ أثبَتُوها عَلَيَّ عِندَما وَقَفتُ أمامَ المَجلِسِ اليَهُودِيِّ.

or let these same say if they found any unrighteousness in me in my standing before the sanhedrim,

21 ر ُبَّما اعتَبَرُونِي مُذنِباً بِسَبَبِ الجُملَةِ الوَحِيدَةِ الَّتِي قُلْتُها هُناكَ عَلَى مَسمَعٍ مِنهُمْ. فَقَدْ قُلْتُ: ‹أنتُمْ تُحاكِمُونَنِي اليَومَ عَلَى أساسِ إيمانِي بِقِيامَةِ الأمواتِ.›»

except concerning this one voice, in which I cried, standing among them -- Concerning a rising again of the dead I am judged to-day by you.'

22 ث ُمَّ قَرَّرَ فِيلِكسُ الَّذِي كانَ مُطَّلِعاً اطِّلاعاً جَيِّداً عَلَى «الطَّرِيقِ،» أنْ يُؤَجِّلَ الجَلسَةَ، وَقالَ: «حِينَ يَأتِي الآمِرُ لِيسْياسُ، سَأبِتُّ فِي قَضِيَّتِكَ.»

And having heard these things, Felix delayed them -- having known more exactly of the things concerning the way -- saying, `When Lysias the chief captain may come down, I will know fully the things concerning you;'

23 و َأمَرَ الضّابِطَ بِأنْ يُبقِيَهُ تَحتَ الحِراسَةِ مَعَ مَنحِهِ بَعضَ الحُرِّيَّةِ. كَما أمَرَهُ بِأنْ لا يُمنَعَ أصدِقاءُ بُولُسَ مِنَ الاهتِمامِ بِحاجاتِهِ. بُولُسُ يَتَحَدَّثُ إلَى فِيلِكسَ وَزَوجَتِه

having given also a direction to the centurion to keep Paul, to let also have liberty, and to forbid none of his own friends to minister or to come near to him.

24 و َبَعدَ عِدَّةِ أيّامٍ جاءَ فِيلِكسُ وَمَعَهُ زَوجَتُهُ دُرُوسِّلا. وَكانَتْ زَوجَتُهُ يَهُودِيَّةً. فَاسْتُدْعِيَ بُولُسُ، وَاستَمَعَ فِيلِكسُ إلَيهِ وَهُوَ يَتَحَدَّثُ عَنْ إيمانِهِ بِالمَسِيحِ يَسُوعَ.

And after certain days, Felix having come with Drusilla his wife, being a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith toward Christ,

25 ل َكِنْ بَينَما كانَ بُولُسُ يَتَحَدَّثُ عَنِ البِرِّ وَضَبطِ النَّفسِ وَالدَّينُونَةِ الآتِيَةِ، خافَ فِيلِكسُ وَقالَ لِبُولُسَ: «انصَرِفِ الآنَ، وَحِينَ تُتاحُ لِي فُرصَةٌ سَأستَدعِيكَ.»

and he reasoning concerning righteousness, and temperance, and the judgment that is about to be, Felix, having become afraid, answered, `For the present be going, and having got time, I will call for thee;'

26 و َكانَ فِي الوَقتِ نَفسِهِ يَأْمَلُ أنْ يُعطِيَهُ بُولُسُ رِشْوَةً مالِيَّةً. فَكانَ يَستَدعِيهِ كَثِيراً وَيَتَحَدَّثُ إلَيهِ.

and at the same time also hoping that money shall be given to him by Paul, that he may release him, therefore, also sending for him the oftener, he was conversing with him;

27 و َبَعدَ مُرُورِ عامَينِ، خَلَفَهُ بُورْكيُوسَ فِسْتُوسَ والِياً. وَتَرَكَ فِيلِكسُ بُولُسَ مَسجُوناً، لِأنَّهُ كانَ يُرِيدُ أنْ يُرضِيَ اليَهُودَ.

and two years having been fulfilled, Felix received a successor, Porcius Festus; Felix also willing to lay a favour on the Jews, left Paul bound.
