1 ق ُلُوبُ المُلُوكِ فِي يَدِ اللهِ مِثلُ جَداوِلِ المِياهِ، يُدِيرُها حَيثُما يُرِيدُ.

Rivulets of waters the heart of a king in the hand of Jehovah, Wherever He pleaseth He inclineth it.

2 ك ُلُّ طُرُقِ الإنسانِ قَدْ تَبدُو صَحِيحَةً فِي عَينَيهِ، وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ الَّذِي يَفحَصُ القُلُوبَ.

Every way of a man right in his own eyes, And Jehovah is pondering hearts.

3 ف ِعلُ ما هُوَ صَحِيحٌ وَعادِلٌ أهَمُّ عِنْدَ اللهِ مِنْ تَقدِيمِ الذَّبائِحِ.

To do righteousness and judgment, Is chosen of Jehovah rather than sacrifice.

4 ا لنَّظراتُ المُتَعَجْرِفَةُ وَالأفْكارُ المُتكبِّرةُ تُظْهِرُ خَطيَّةَ الشِّرِّيرِ.

Loftiness of eyes, and breadth of heart, Tillage of the wicked sin.

5 خ ُطَطُ المُجتَهِدِ تَقُودُهُ إلَى الرِّبحِ، أمّا المُتَهَوِّرُ فَيَصيرُ فَقِيراً.

The purposes of the diligent only to advantage, And of every hasty one, only to want.

6 ا لكُنُوزُ الَّتِي تَأتِي بِالكَذِبِ هِيَ بُخارٌ يَتَلاشَى وَفَخٌّ يُؤَدِّي إلَى المَوْتِ.

The making of treasures by a lying tongue, a vanity driven away of those seeking death.

7 ع ُنْفُ الأشرارِ يَجُرُّهُمْ بَعِيداً، لِأنَّهُمْ يَرفُضُونَ عَمَلَ ما هُوَ عَدلٌ.

The spoil of the wicked catcheth them, Because they have refused to do judgment.

8 ا لمُذنِبُ يَتَصَرَّفُ بِخِداعٍ، أمّا البَرِيءُ فَطُرُقُهُ مُستَقِيمَةٌ.

Froward the way of a man who is vile, And the pure -- upright his work.

9 خ َيرٌ لِلإنسانِ أنْ يَسكُنَ فِي زاوِيَةِ البَيتِ، مِنْ أنْ يَعِيشَ فِي بَيتٍ واسِعٍ مَعَ زَوجَةٍ تُثِيرُ النِّزاعَ.

Better to sit on a corner of the roof, Than a woman of contentions and a house of company.

10 ا لشِّرِّيرُ يَشْتَهِي الشَّرَّ، وَهُوَ لَيسَ رَحِيماً مَعَ جارِهِ.

The soul of the wicked hath desired evil, Not gracious in his eyes is his neighbour.

11 ع ِندَما يُعاقَبُ المُتَكَبِّرُ، يُصبِحُ الجاهِلُ حَكِيماً. وَعِندَما يُنصَحُ الحَكِيمُ وَيُرْشَدُ، فَإنَّهُ يَكتَسِبُ المَعْرِفَةَ.

When the scorner is punished, the simple becometh wise, And in giving understanding to the wise He receiveth knowledge.

12 ا للهُ البارُّ يُراقِبُ بُيُوتَ الأشرارِ، وَيُدّمِّرُ الأشْرارَ تَدْمِيراً.

The Righteous One is acting wisely Towards the house of the wicked, He is overthrowing the wicked for wickedness.

13 م َنْ يَسُدُّ أُذُنَيهِ عِنْ نِداءِ الفَقِيرِ، يَطلُبُ هُوَ المُساعَدَةَ وَلا يَجِدُ مَنْ يُجِيبُهُ.

Whoso is shutting his ear from the cry of the poor, He also doth cry, and is not answered.

14 ا لهَدِيَّةُ الَّتِي تُعطَى فِي السِّرِّ تُهَدِّئُ الغَضَبَ، وَالهَدَيَّةُ الحَميمَةُ تُهَدِّئُ الغَضَبَ الشَّدِيدَ.

A gift in secret pacifieth anger, And a bribe in the bosom strong fury.

15 ا لبارُّ يَفرَحُ بِالعَدلِ، وَالهَلاكُ لِفاعِلِي الشَّرِّ.

To do justice joy to the righteous, But ruin to workers of iniquity.

16 م َنْ يَتَجَنَّبُ طَرِيقَ الفَهمِ يَرتاحُ مَعَ جَماعَةِ الأمواتِ.

A man who is wandering from the way of understanding, In an assembly of Rephaim resteth.

17 م ُحِبُّ المَلَذّاتِ يُصِيرُ فَقِيراً، وَمُحِبُّ الخَمْرِ وَالتَّرَفِ لَنْ يَغْتَنِيَ.

Whoso loving mirth a poor man, Whoso is loving wine and oil maketh no wealth.

18 ي ُؤخَذُ الشِّرِّيرُ عِوَضاً عَنِ البارِّ، وَيُعاقَبُ الخائِنُ لا المُسْتَقِيمُ.

The wicked an atonement for the righteous, And for the upright the treacherous dealer.

19 خ َيرٌ لِلإنسانِ أنْ يَحيا فِي الصَّحراءِ مِنْ أنْ يَعِيشَ مَعَ زَوجَةٍ مُتَقَلِّبَةٍ تُثِيرُ النِّزاعَ.

Better to dwell in a wilderness land, Than a woman of contentions and anger.

20 ف ِي بَيتِ الحَكِيمِ تَجِدُ كَنزاً ثَمِيناً وَزَيتاً مُخَزَّناً، أمّا الأحْمَقُ فَيَستَهلِكُ كُلَّ ما لَدَيْهِ.

A treasure to be desired, and oil, in the habitation of the wise, And a foolish man swalloweth it up.

21 م َنْ يتْبَعُ العَدلَ وَالرَّحمَةَ سَيَجِدُ حَياةً وَكَرامَةً وَبِرّاً.

Whoso is pursuing righteousness and kindness, Findeth life, righteousness, and honour.

22 ر َجُلٌ حَكِيمٌ يَغلِبُ مَدِينَةَ مُحارِبِينَ، وَيُدَمِّرُ حِصنَها المَنيعَ.

A city of the mighty hath the wise gone up, And bringeth down the strength of its confidence.

23 م َنْ يَنتَبِهْ إلَى كَلامِهِ يَحفَظْ نَفسَهُ مِنَ المَتاعِبِ.

Whoso is keeping his mouth and his tongue, Is keeping from adversities his soul.

24 ا لمُتَكَبِّرُ المَغرُورُ يَسَخَرُ بِهِ النّاسُ، وَهُوَ يَتَصَرَّفُ بِتَفاخُرٍ شَدِيدٍ.

Proud, haughty, scorner his name, Who is working in the wrath of pride.

25 ش َهْوَةُ الكَسْلانِ سَتَقتُلُهُ، لِأنَّهُ لا يُحِبُّ أنْ يَعمَلَ.

The desire of the slothful slayeth him, For his hands have refused to work.

26 ف َهُوَ يَشتَهِي أكثَرَ فَأكثَرَ، أمّا البارُّ فَيُعطِي مِنْ دُونِ تَأخِيرٍ.

All the day desiring he hath desired, And the righteous giveth and withholdeth not.

27 ا لذَّبائِحَ الَّتِي يُقَدِّمُها الشِّرِّيرُ كَرِيهةٌ، لِأنَّهُ يُقَدِّمُها بِغِشٍّ.

The sacrifice of the wicked abomination, Much more when in wickedness he bringeth it.

28 ش ُهُودُ الزُّورِ يُعاقَبونَ، أمّا مَنْ يُصغِي لِضَمِيرِهِ فَإنَّهُ يَتَكَلَّمُ بِثِقَةٍ.

A false witness doth perish, And an attentive man for ever speaketh.

29 ا لشِّرِّيرُ يُغَيِّرُ مَلامِحَ وَجهِهِ، أمّا الصّالِحُ فَواثِقٌ مِنْ طَرِيقِهِ.

A wicked man hath hardened by his face, And the upright -- he prepareth his way.

30 م ا مِنْ حِكمَةٍ وَلا فَهْمٍ وَلا مَشُورَةٍ تَنجَحُ ضِدَّ اللهِ.

There is no wisdom, nor understanding, Nor counsel, over-against Jehovah.

31 ا لحِصانُ يُجَهَّزُ لِيَومِ الحَربِ، أمّا النُّصرَةُ فَهِيَ مِنْ عِندِ اللهِ.

A horse is prepared for a day of battle, And the deliverance of Jehovah!
