1 L es pharisiens et les sadducéens abordèrent Jésus et, pour l'éprouver, lui demandèrent de leur faire voir un signe venant du ciel.

And the Pharisees and Sadducees having come, tempting, did question him, to shew to them a sign from the heaven,

2 J ésus leur répondit: Le soir, vous dites: Il fera beau, car le ciel est rouge; et le matin:

and he answering said to them, `Evening having come, ye say, Fair weather, for the heaven is red,

3 I l y aura de l'orage aujourd'hui, car le ciel est d'un rouge sombre. Vous savez discerner l'aspect du ciel, et vous ne pouvez discerner les signes des temps.

and at morning, Foul weather to-day, for the heaven is red -- gloomy; hypocrites, the face of the heavens indeed ye do know to discern, but the signs of the times ye are not able!

4 U ne génération méchante et adultère demande un miracle; il ne lui sera donné d'autre miracle que celui de Jonas. Puis il les quitta, et s'en alla.

`A generation evil and adulterous doth seek a sign, and a sign shall not be given to it, except the sign of Jonah the prophet;' and having left them he went away.

5 L es disciples, en passant à l'autre bord, avaient oublié de prendre des pains.

And his disciples having come to the other side, forgot to take loaves,

6 J ésus leur dit: Gardez-vous avec soin du levain des pharisiens et des sadducéens.

and Jesus said to them, `Beware, and take heed of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees;'

7 L es disciples raisonnaient en eux-mêmes, et disaient: C'est parce que nous n'avons pas pris de pains.

and they were reasoning in themselves, saying, `Because we took no loaves.'

8 J ésus, l'ayant connu, dit: Pourquoi raisonnez-vous en vous-mêmes, gens de peu de foi, sur ce que vous n'avez pas pris de pains?

And Jesus having known, said to them, `Why reason ye in yourselves, ye of little faith, because ye took no loaves?

9 E tes-vous encore sans intelligence, et ne vous rappelez-vous plus les cinq pains des cinq mille hommes et combien de paniers vous avez emportés,

do ye not yet understand, nor remember the five loaves of the five thousand, and how many hand-baskets ye took up?

10 n i les sept pains des quatre mille hommes et combien de corbeilles vous avez emportées?

nor the seven loaves of the four thousand, and how many baskets ye took up?

11 C omment ne comprenez-vous pas que ce n'est pas au sujet de pains que je vous ai parlé? Gardez-vous du levain des pharisiens et des sadducéens.

how do ye not understand that I did not speak to you of bread -- to take heed of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees?'

12 A lors ils comprirent que ce n'était pas du levain du pain qu'il avait dit de se garder, mais de l'enseignement des pharisiens et des sadducéens.

Then they understood that he did not say to take heed of the leaven of the bread, but of the teaching, of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

13 J ésus, étant arrivé dans le territoire de Césarée de Philippe, demanda à ses disciples: Qui dit-on que je suis, moi, le Fils de l'homme?

And Jesus, having come to the parts of Cesarea Philippi, was asking his disciples, saying, `Who do men say me to be -- the Son of Man?'

14 I ls répondirent: Les uns disent que tu es Jean Baptiste; les autres, Élie; les autres, Jérémie, ou l'un des prophètes.

and they said, `Some, John the Baptist, and others, Elijah, and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.'

15 E t vous, leur dit-il, qui dites-vous que je suis?

He saith to them, `And ye -- who do ye say me to be?'

16 S imon Pierre répondit: Tu es le Christ, le Fils du Dieu vivant.

and Simon Peter answering said, `Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.'

17 J ésus, reprenant la parole, lui dit: Tu es heureux, Simon, fils de Jonas; car ce ne sont pas la chair et le sang qui t'ont révélé cela, mais c'est mon Père qui est dans les cieux.

And Jesus answering said to him, `Happy art thou, Simon Bar-Jona, because flesh and blood did not reveal to thee, but my Father who is in the heavens.

18 E t moi, je te dis que tu es Pierre, et que sur cette pierre je bâtirai mon Église, et que les portes du séjour des morts ne prévaudront point contre elle.

`And I also say to thee, that thou art a rock, and upon this rock I will build my assembly, and gates of Hades shall not prevail against it;

19 J e te donnerai les clefs du royaume des cieux: ce que tu lieras sur la terre sera lié dans les cieux, et ce que tu délieras sur la terre sera délié dans les cieux.

and I will give to thee the keys of the reign of the heavens, and whatever thou mayest bind upon the earth shall be having been bound in the heavens, and whatever thou mayest loose upon the earth shall be having been loosed in the heavens.'

20 A lors il recommanda aux disciples de ne dire à personne qu'il était le Christ.

Then did he charge his disciples that they may say to no one that he is Jesus the Christ.

21 D ès lors Jésus commença à faire connaître à ses disciples qu'il fallait qu'il allât à Jérusalem, qu'il souffrît beaucoup de la part des anciens, des principaux sacrificateurs et des scribes, qu'il fût mis à mort, et qu'il ressuscitât le troisième jour.

From that time began Jesus to shew to his disciples that it is necessary for him to go away to Jerusalem, and to suffer many things from the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and to be put to death, and the third day to rise.

22 P ierre, l'ayant pris à part, se mit à le reprendre, et dit: A Dieu ne plaise, Seigneur! Cela ne t'arrivera pas.

And having taken him aside, Peter began to rebuke him, saying, `Be kind to thyself, sir; this shall not be to thee;'

23 M ais Jésus, se retournant, dit à Pierre: Arrière de moi, Satan! tu m'es en scandale; car tes pensées ne sont pas les pensées de Dieu, mais celles des hommes.

and he having turned, said to Peter, `Get thee behind me, adversary! thou art a stumbling-block to me, for thou dost not mind the things of God, but the things of men.'

24 A lors Jésus dit à ses disciples: Si quelqu'un veut venir après moi, qu'il renonce à lui-même, qu'il se charge de sa croix, et qu'il me suive.

Then said Jesus to his disciples, `If any one doth will to come after me, let him disown himself, and take up his cross, and follow me,

25 C ar celui qui voudra sauver sa vie la perdra, mais celui qui la perdra à cause de moi la trouvera.

for whoever may will to save his life, shall lose it, and whoever may lose his life for my sake shall find it,

26 E t que servirait-il à un homme de gagner tout le monde, s'il perdait son âme? ou, que donnerait un homme en échange de son âme?

for what is a man profited if he may gain the whole world, but of his life suffer loss? or what shall a man give as an exchange for his life?

27 C ar le Fils de l'homme doit venir dans la gloire de son Père, avec ses anges; et alors il rendra à chacun selon ses oeuvres.

`For, the Son of Man is about to come in the glory of his Father, with his messengers, and then he will reward each, according to his work.

28 J e vous le dis en vérité, quelques-uns de ceux qui sont ici ne mourront point, qu'ils n'aient vu le Fils de l'homme venir dans son règne.

Verily I say to you, there are certain of those standing here who shall not taste of death till they may see the Son of Man coming in his reign.'
