1 E n effet, la loi, qui possède une ombre des biens à venir, et non l'exacte représentation des choses, ne peut jamais, par les mêmes sacrifices qu'on offre perpétuellement chaque année, amener les assistants à la perfection.

For the law having a shadow of the coming good things -- not the very image of the matters, every year, by the same sacrifices that they offer continually, is never able to make perfect those coming near,

2 A utrement, n'aurait-on pas cessé de les offrir, parce que ceux qui rendent ce culte, étant une fois purifiés, n'auraient plus eu aucune conscience de leurs péchés?

since, would they not have ceased to be offered, because of those serving having no more conscience of sins, having once been purified?

3 M ais le souvenir des péchés est renouvelé chaque année par ces sacrifices;

but in those is a remembrance of sins every year,

4 c ar il est impossible que le sang des taureaux et des boucs ôte les péchés.

for it is impossible for blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

5 C 'est pourquoi Christ, entrant dans le monde, dit: Tu n'as voulu ni sacrifice ni offrande, Mais tu m'as formé un corps;

Wherefore, coming into the world, he saith, `Sacrifice and offering Thou didst not will, and a body Thou didst prepare for me,

6 T u n'as agréé ni holocaustes ni sacrifices pour le péché.

in burnt-offerings, and concerning sin-offerings, Thou didst not delight,

7 A lors j'ai dit: Voici, je viens (Dans le rouleau du livre il est question de moi) Pour faire, ô Dieu, ta volonté.

then I said, Lo, I come, (in a volume of the book it hath been written concerning me,) to do, O God, Thy will;'

8 A près avoir dit d'abord: Tu n'as voulu et tu n'as agréé ni sacrifices ni offrandes, Ni holocaustes ni sacrifices pour le péché (ce qu'on offre selon la loi),

saying above -- `Sacrifice, and offering, and burnt-offerings, and concerning sin-offering Thou didst not will, nor delight in,' -- which according to the law are offered --

9 i l dit ensuite: Voici, je viens Pour faire ta volonté. Il abolit ainsi la première chose pour établir la seconde.

then he said, `Lo, I come to do, O God, Thy will;' he doth take away the first that the second he may establish;

10 C 'est en vertu de cette volonté que nous sommes sanctifiés, par l'offrande du corps de Jésus Christ, une fois pour toutes.

in the which will we are having been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once,

11 E t tandis que tout sacrificateur fait chaque jour le service et offre souvent les mêmes sacrifices, qui ne peuvent jamais ôter les péchés,

and every priest, indeed, hath stood daily serving, and the same sacrifices many times offering, that are never able to take away sins.

12 l ui, après avoir offert un seul sacrifice pour les péchés, s'est assis pour toujours à la droite de Dieu,

And He, for sin one sacrifice having offered -- to the end, did sit down on the right hand of God, --

13 a ttendant désormais que ses ennemis soient devenus son marchepied.

as to the rest, expecting till He may place his enemies his footstool,

14 C ar, par une seule offrande, il a amené à la perfection pour toujours ceux qui sont sanctifiés.

for by one offering he hath perfected to the end those sanctified;

15 C 'est ce que le Saint Esprit nous atteste aussi; car, après avoir dit:

and testify to us also doth the Holy Spirit, for after that He hath said before,

16 V oici l'alliance que je ferai avec eux, Après ces jours-là, dit le Seigneur: Je mettrai mes lois dans leurs coeurs, Et je les écrirai dans leur esprit, il ajoute:

`This the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, giving My laws on their hearts, and upon their minds I will write them,'

17 E t je ne me souviendrai plus de leurs péchés ni de leurs iniquités.

and `their sins and their lawlessness I will remember no more;'

18 O r, là où il y a pardon des péchés, il n'y a plus d'offrande pour le péché.

and where forgiveness of these, there is no more offering for sin.

19 A insi donc, frères, puisque nous avons, au moyen du sang de Jésus, une libre entrée dans le sanctuaire

Having, therefore, brethren, boldness for the entrance into the holy places, in the blood of Jesus,

20 p ar la route nouvelle et vivante qu'il a inaugurée pour nous au travers du voile, c'est-à-dire, de sa chair,

which way he did initiate for us -- new and living, through the vail, that is, his flesh --

21 e t puisque nous avons un souverain sacrificateur établi sur la maison de Dieu,

and a high priest over the house of God,

22 a pprochons-nous avec un coeur sincère, dans la plénitude de la foi, les coeurs purifiés d'une mauvaise conscience, et le corps lavé d'une eau pure.

may we draw near with a true heart, in full assurance of faith, having the hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and having the body bathed with pure water;

23 R etenons fermement la profession de notre espérance, car celui qui a fait la promesse est fidèle.

may we hold fast the unwavering profession of the hope, (for faithful He who did promise),

24 V eillons les uns sur les autres, pour nous exciter à la charité et aux bonnes oeuvres.

and may we consider one another to provoke to love and to good works,

25 N 'abandonnons pas notre assemblée, comme c'est la coutume de quelques-uns; mais exhortons-nous réciproquement, et cela d'autant plus que vous voyez s'approcher le jour.

not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as a custom of certain, but exhorting, and so much the more as ye see the day coming nigh.

26 C ar, si nous péchons volontairement après avoir reçu la connaissance de la vérité, il ne reste plus de sacrifice pour les péchés,

For we -- willfully sinning after the receiving the full knowledge of the truth -- no more for sins doth there remain a sacrifice,

27 m ais une attente terrible du jugement et l'ardeur d'un feu qui dévorera les rebelles.

but a certain fearful looking for of judgment, and fiery zeal, about to devour the opposers;

28 C elui qui a violé la loi de Moïse meurt sans miséricorde, sur la déposition de deux ou de trois témoins;

any one who did set at nought a law of Moses, apart from mercies, by two or three witnesses, doth die,

29 d e quel pire châtiment pensez-vous que sera jugé digne celui qui aura foulé aux pieds le Fils de Dieu, qui aura tenu pour profane le sang de l'alliance, par lequel il a été sanctifié, et qui aura outragé l'Esprit de la grâce?

of how much sorer punishment shall he be counted worthy who the Son of God did trample on, and the blood of the covenant did count a common thing, in which he was sanctified, and to the Spirit of the grace did despite?

30 C ar nous connaissons celui qui a dit: A moi la vengeance, à moi la rétribution! et encore: Le Seigneur jugera son peuple.

for we have known Him who is saying, `Vengeance Mine, I will recompense, saith the Lord;' and again, `The Lord shall judge His people;' --

31 C 'est une chose terrible que de tomber entre les mains du Dieu vivant.

fearful the falling into the hands of a living God.

32 S ouvenez-vous de ces premiers jours, où, après avoir été éclairés, vous avez soutenu un grand combat au milieu des souffrances,

And call to your remembrance the former days, in which, having been enlightened, ye did endure much conflict of sufferings,

33 d 'une part, exposés comme en spectacle aux opprobres et aux tribulations, et de l'autre, vous associant à ceux dont la position était la même.

partly both with reproaches and tribulations being made spectacles, and partly having become partners of those so living,

34 E n effet, vous avez eu de la compassion pour les prisonniers, et vous avez accepté avec joie l'enlèvement de vos biens, sachant que vous avez des biens meilleurs et qui durent toujours.

for also with my bonds ye sympathised, and the robbery of your goods with joy ye did receive, knowing that ye have in yourselves a better substance in the heavens, and an enduring one.

35 N 'abandonnez donc pas votre assurance, à laquelle est attachée une grande rémunération.

Ye may not cast away, then, your boldness, which hath great recompense of reward,

36 C ar vous avez besoin de persévérance, afin qu'après avoir accompli la volonté de Dieu, vous obteniez ce qui vous est promis.

for of patience ye have need, that the will of God having done, ye may receive the promise,

37 E ncore un peu, un peu de temps: celui qui doit venir viendra, et il ne tardera pas.

for yet a very very little, He who is coming will come, and will not tarry;

38 E t mon juste vivra par la foi; mais, s'il se retire, mon âme ne prend pas plaisir en lui.

and `the righteous by faith shall live,' and `if he may draw back, My soul hath no pleasure in him,'

39 N ous, nous ne sommes pas de ceux qui se retirent pour se perdre, mais de ceux qui ont la foi pour sauver leur âme.

and we are not of those drawing back to destruction, but of those believing to a preserving of soul.
