1 S i un homme dérobe un boeuf ou un agneau, et qu'il l'égorge ou le vende, il restituera cinq boeufs pour le boeuf et quatre agneaux pour l'agneau.

`When a man doth steal an ox or sheep, and hath slaughtered it or sold it, five of the herd he doth repay for the ox, and four of the flock for the sheep.

2 S i le voleur est surpris dérobant avec effraction, et qu'il soit frappé et meure, on ne sera point coupable de meurtre envers lui;

`If in the breaking through, the thief is found, and he hath been smitten, and hath died, there is no blood for him;

3 m ais si le soleil est levé, on sera coupable de meurtre envers lui. Il fera restitution; s'il n'a rien, il sera vendu pour son vol;

if the sun hath risen upon him, blood for him, he doth certainly repay; if he have nothing, then he hath been sold for his theft;

4 s i ce qu'il a dérobé, boeuf, âne, ou agneau, se trouve encore vivant entre ses mains, il fera une restitution au double.

if the theft is certainly found in his hand alive, whether ox, or ass, or sheep -- double he repayeth.

5 S i un homme fait du dégât dans un champ ou dans une vigne, et qu'il laisse son bétail paître dans le champ d'autrui, il donnera en dédommagement le meilleur produit de son champ et de sa vigne.

`When a man depastureth a field or vineyard, and hath sent out his beast, and it hath pastured in the field of another, the best of his field, and the best of his vineyard, he doth repay.

6 S i un feu éclate et rencontre des épines, et que du blé en gerbes ou sur pied, ou bien le champ, soit consumé, celui qui a causé l'incendie sera tenu à un dédommagement.

`When fire goeth forth, and hath found thorns, and a stack, or the standing corn, or the field, hath been consumed, he who causeth the burning doth certainly repay.

7 S i un homme donne à un autre de l'argent ou des objets à garder, et qu'on les vole dans la maison de ce dernier, le voleur fera une restitution au double, dans le cas où il serait trouvé.

`When a man doth give unto his neighbour silver, or vessels to keep, and it hath been stolen out of the man's house; if the thief is found, he repayeth double.

8 S i le voleur ne se trouve pas, le maître de la maison se présentera devant Dieu, pour déclarer qu'il n'a pas mis la main sur le bien de son prochain.

`If the thief is not found, then the master of the house hath been brought near unto God, whether he hath not put forth his hand against the work of his neighbour;

9 D ans toute affaire frauduleuse concernant un boeuf, un âne, un agneau, un vêtement, ou un objet perdu, au sujet duquel on dira: C'est cela! -la cause des deux parties ira jusqu'à Dieu; celui que Dieu condamnera fera à son prochain une restitution au double.

for every matter of transgression, for ox, for ass, for sheep, for raiment, for any lost thing of which it is said that it is his; unto God cometh the matter of them both; he whom God doth condemn, he repayeth double to his neighbour.

10 S i un homme donne à un autre un âne, un boeuf, un agneau, ou un animal quelconque à garder, et que l'animal meure, se casse un membre, ou soit enlevé, sans que personne l'ait vu,

`When a man doth give unto his neighbour an ass, or ox, or sheep, or any beast to keep, and it hath died, or hath been hurt, or taken captive, none seeing --

11 l e serment au nom de l'Éternel interviendra entre les deux parties, et celui qui a gardé l'animal déclarera qu'il n'a pas mis la main sur le bien de son prochain; le maître de l'animal acceptera ce serment, et l'autre ne sera point tenu à une restitution.

an oath of Jehovah is between them both, that he hath not put forth his hand against the work of his neighbour, and its owner hath accepted, and he doth not repay;

12 M ais si l'animal a été dérobé chez lui, il sera tenu vis-à-vis de son maître à une restitution.

but if it is certainly stolen from him, he doth repay to its owner;

13 S i l'animal a été déchiré, il le produira en témoignage, et il ne sera point tenu à une restitution pour ce qui a été déchiré.

if it is certainly torn, he bringeth it in -- a witness; the torn thing he doth not repay.

14 S i un homme emprunte à un autre un animal, et que l'animal se casse un membre ou qu'il meure, en l'absence de son maître, il y aura lieu à restitution.

`And when a man doth ask from his neighbour, and it hath been hurt or hath died -- its owner not being with it -- he doth certainly repay;

15 S i le maître est présent, il n'y aura pas lieu à restitution. Si l'animal a été loué, le prix du louage suffira.

if its owner with it, he doth not repay, -- if it a hired thing, it hath come for its hire.

16 S i un homme séduit une vierge qui n'est point fiancée, et qu'il couche avec elle, il paiera sa dot et la prendra pour femme.

`And when a man doth entice a virgin who not betrothed, and hath lain with her, he doth certainly endow her to himself for a wife;

17 S i le père refuse de la lui accorder, il paiera en argent la valeur de la dot des vierges.

if her father utterly refuse to give her to him, money he doth weigh out according to the dowry of virgins.

18 T u ne laisseras point vivre la magicienne.

`A witch thou dost not keep alive.

19 Q uiconque couche avec une bête sera puni de mort.

`Whoever lieth with a beast is certainly put to death.

20 C elui qui offre des sacrifices à d'autres dieux qu'à l'Éternel seul sera voué à l'extermination.

`He who is sacrificing to a god, save to Jehovah alone, is devoted.

21 T u ne maltraiteras point l'étranger, et tu ne l'opprimeras point; car vous avez été étrangers dans le pays d'Égypte.

`And a sojourner thou dost not oppress, nor crush him, for sojourners ye have been in the land of Egypt.

22 T u n'affligeras point la veuve, ni l'orphelin.

`Any widow or orphan ye do not afflict;

23 S i tu les affliges, et qu'ils viennent à moi, j'entendrai leurs cris;

if thou dost really afflict him, surely if he at all cry unto Me, I certainly hear his cry;

24 m a colère s'enflammera, et je vous détruirai par l'épée; vos femmes deviendront veuves, et vos enfants orphelins.

and Mine anger hath burned, and I have slain you by the sword, and your wives have been widows, and your sons orphans.

25 S i tu prêtes de l'argent à mon peuple, au pauvre qui est avec toi, tu ne seras point à son égard comme un créancier, tu n'exigeras de lui point d'intérêt.

`If thou dost lend My poor people with thee money, thou art not to him as a usurer; thou dost not lay on him usury;

26 S i tu prends en gage le vêtement de ton prochain, tu le lui rendras avant le coucher du soleil;

if thou dost at all take in pledge the garment of thy neighbour, during the going in of the sun thou dost return it to him:

27 c ar c'est sa seule couverture, c'est le vêtement dont il s'enveloppe le corps: dans quoi coucherait-il? S'il crie à moi, je l'entendrai, car je suis miséricordieux.

for it alone is his covering, it his garment for his skin; wherein doth he lie down? and it hath come to pass, when he doth cry unto Me, that I have heard, for I gracious.

28 T u ne maudiras point Dieu, et tu ne maudiras point le prince de ton peuple.

`God thou dost not revile, and a prince among thy people thou dost not curse.

29 T u ne différeras point de m'offrir les prémices de ta moisson et de ta vendange. Tu me donneras le premier-né de tes fils.

`Thy fulness and thy liquids thou dost not delay; the first-born of thy sons thou dost give to Me;

30 T u me donneras aussi le premier-né de ta vache et de ta brebis; il restera sept jours avec sa mère; le huitième jour, tu me le donneras.

so thou dost to thine ox, to thy sheep; seven days it is with its dam, on the eighth day thou dost give it to Me.

31 V ous serez pour moi des hommes saints. Vous ne mangerez point de chair déchirée dans les champs: vous la jetterez aux chiens.

`And ye are holy men to Me, and flesh torn in the field ye do not eat, to a dog ye do cast it.
