1 П римхливий шукає сваволі, стає проти всього розумного.

For desire he who is separated doth seek, With all wisdom he intermeddleth.

2 Н ерозумний не хоче навчатися, а тільки свій ум показати.

A fool delighteth not in understanding, But -- in uncovering his heart.

3 З приходом безбожного й ганьба приходить, а з легковаженням сором.

With the coming of the wicked come also hath contempt, And with shame -- reproach.

4 С лова уст людини глибока вода, джерело премудрости бризкотливий потік.

Deep waters the words of a man's mouth, The fountain of wisdom a flowing brook.

5 Н е добре вважати на обличчя безбожного, щоб праведного повалити на суді.

Acceptance of the face of the wicked not good, To turn aside the righteous in judgment.

6 У ста нерозумного тягнуть до сварки, а слова його кличуть бійки.

The lips of a fool enter into strife, And his mouth for stripes calleth.

7 Я зик нерозумного загибіль для нього, а уста його то тенета на душу його.

The mouth of a fool ruin to him, And his lips the snare of his soul.

8 С лова обмовника мов ті присмаки, і вони сходять у нутро утроби.

The words of a tale-bearer as self-inflicted wounds, And they have gone down the inner parts of the heart.

9 Т еж недбалий у праці своїй то брат марнотратнику.

He also that is remiss in his work, A brother he to a destroyer.

10 Г осподнє Ім'я сильна башта: до неї втече справедливий і буде безпечний.

A tower of strength the name of Jehovah, Into it the righteous runneth, and is set on high.

11 М аєток багатому місто твердинне його, і немов міцний мур ув уяві його.

The wealth of the rich the city of his strength, And as a wall set on high in his own imagination.

12 П еред загибіллю серце людини високо несеться, перед славою ж скромність.

Before destruction the heart of man is high, And before honour humility.

13 Х то відповідає на слово, ще поки почув, то глупота та сором йому!

Whoso is answering a matter before he heareth, Folly it is to him and shame.

14 Д ух дійсного мужа виносить терпіння своє, а духа прибитого хто піднесе?

The spirit of a man sustaineth his sickness, And a smitten spirit who doth bear?

15 С ерце розумне знання набуває, і вухо премудрих шукає знання.

The heart of the intelligent getteth knowledge, And the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

16 Д арунок людини виводить із утиску, і провадить її до великих людей.

The gift of a man maketh room for him, And before the great it leadeth him.

17 П ерший у сварці своїй уважає себе справедливим, але прийде противник його та й дослідить його.

Righteous the first in his own cause, His neighbour cometh and hath searched him.

18 Ж ереб перериває сварки, та відділює сильних один від одного.

The lot causeth contentions to cease, And between the mighty it separateth.

19 Р озлючений брат протиставиться більше за місто твердинне, а сварки, немов засуви замку.

A brother transgressed against is as a strong city, And contentions as the bar of a palace.

20 І з плоду уст людини насичується її шлунок, вона насичується плодом уст своїх.

From the fruit of a man's mouth is his belly satisfied, increase of his lips he is satisfied.

21 С мерть та життя у владі язика, хто ж кохає його, його плід поїдає.

Death and life in the power of the tongue, And those loving it eat its fruit.

22 Х то жінку чеснотну знайшов, знайшов той добро, і милість отримав від Господа.

hath found a wife hath found good, And bringeth out good-will from Jehovah.

23 У богий говорить благально, багатий же відповідає зухвало.

supplications doth the poor speak, And the rich answereth fierce things.

24 Є товариші на розбиття, та є й приятель, більше від брата прив'язаний.

A man with friends to show himself friendly, And there is a lover adhering more than a brother!
