1 É stas son las últimas palabras de David, el hijo de Yesé. Así se expresó el dulce cantor de Israel, el hombre exaltado y ungido por el Dios de Jacob:

And these the last words of David: -- `The affirmation of David son of Jesse -- And the affirmation of the man raised up -- Concerning the Anointed of the God of Jacob, And the Sweetness of the Songs of Israel:

2 E l espíritu del Señor ha hablado por mí; ha usado mi lengua para comunicar su palabra.

The Spirit of Jehovah hath spoken by me, And His word on my tongue.

3 A sí ha dicho el Dios de Israel; así me ha hablado la Roca de Israel: «Un hombre justo y temeroso de Dios establecerá su reino entre los hombres.

He said -- the God of Israel -- to me, He spake -- the Rock of Israel: He who is ruling over man righteous, He is ruling in the fear of God.

4 S erá como la luz de la mañana, como el sol brillante de un claro amanecer, ¡como la lluvia que hace renacer la hierba!

And as the light of morning he riseth, A morning sun -- no clouds! By the shining, by the rain, Tender grass of the earth!

5 A sí tratará Dios a mis descendientes, porque él ha hecho conmigo un pacto eterno; todo está estipulado, y será cumplido. ¡Dios siempre me dará la victoria y dará cumplimiento a mis deseos!

For -- not so my house with God; For -- a covenant age-during He made with me, Arranged in all things, and kept; For -- all my salvation, and all desire, For -- He hath not caused to spring up.

6 L os malvados son como espinos sin raíz, que nadie se atreve a levantar del suelo,

As to the worthless -- As a thorn driven away all of them, For -- not by hand are they taken;

7 p ero que si alguien quiere tocarlos, lo hace con una espada o una lanza y les prende fuego hasta consumirlos.» Los valientes de David

And the man who cometh against them Is filled with iron and the staff of a spear, And with fire they are utterly burnt In the cessation.'

8 É stos son los nombres de los soldados más valientes con que contaba David: Yoseb Basébet el tacmonita, principal de los capitanes. Adino el eznita, que mató a ochocientos hombres en una sola batalla.

These the names of the mighty ones whom David hath: sitting in the seat the Tachmonite, head of the captains -- he Adino, who hardened himself against eight hundred -- wounded at one time.

9 L e seguía Eleazar hijo de Dodo el ajojita, que fue uno de los tres más valientes que se quedaron con David cuando desafiaron a los filisteos que estaban listos para la batalla, y los soldados de Israel se habían retirado.

And after him Eleazar son of Dodo, son of Ahohi, of the three mighty men with David; in their exposing themselves among the Philistines -- they have been gathered there to battle, and the men of Israel go up --

10 E leazar se mantuvo firme y luchó con energía contra los filisteos hasta que el brazo se le cansó y la espada se le quedó pegada a la mano. Aquel día, el Señor les dio una gran victoria, y cuando el ejército lo supo, regresó al campo de batalla sólo para recoger el botín de guerra.

he hath arisen, and smiteth among the Philistines till that his hand hath been weary, and his hand cleaveth unto the sword, and Jehovah worketh a great salvation on that day, and the people turn back after him only to strip off.

11 L e seguía Samá hijo de Age, el ararita. Los filisteos se reunieron en Lehí, donde había un sembradío de lentejas, y el ejército israelita huyó por temor a los filisteos.

And after him Shammah son of Agee the Hararite, and the Philistines are gathered into a company, and there is there a portion of the field full of lentiles, and the people hath fled from the presence of the Philistines,

12 P ero Samá se paró en medio de ese terreno y lo defendió; derrotó a los filisteos, y el Señor les dio una gran victoria.

and he stationeth himself in the midst of the portion, and delivereth it, and smiteth the Philistines, and Jehovah worketh a great salvation.

13 C uando llegó el tiempo de la cosecha, tres de los treinta jefes se encontraron con David en la cueva de Adulán, mientras los filisteos acampaban en el valle de Refayin.

And three of the thirty heads go down and come unto the harvest, unto David, unto the cave of Adullam, and the company of the Philistines are encamping in the valley of Rephaim,

14 D avid estaba en una fortaleza, y los filisteos tenían una guarnición en Belén;

and David then in a fortress, and the station of the Philistines then in Beth-Lehem,

15 y como David tenía mucha sed, dijo: «Cómo quisiera beber un poco de agua, del pozo que está a la entrada de Belén!»

and David longeth and saith, `Who doth give me a drink of the water of the well of Beth-Lehem, which by the gate?'

16 E ntonces los tres valientes irrumpieron en el campamento filisteo y sacaron agua del pozo de Belén, y se la llevaron a David, pero él no la quiso, sino que la derramó en el suelo como ofrenda al Señor, y dijo:

And the three mighty ones cleave through the camp of the Philistines, and draw water out of the well of Beth-Lehem, which by the gate, and take up, and bring in unto David; and he was not willing to drink it, and poureth it out to Jehovah,

17 « ¡Que el Señor me libre de hacer esto! ¡Sería como si bebiera la sangre de estos valientes, que pusieron en peligro su vida!» Y no la quiso beber. Tal fue la hazaña de esos tres valientes.

and saith, `Far be it from me, O Jehovah, to do this; is it the blood of the men who are going with their lives?' and he was not willing to drink it; these did the three mighty ones.

18 A bisay, el hermano de Joab hijo de Seruyá, era el más valiente de los treinta. Lo demostró al matar con su lanza a trescientos guerreros. Con esto se hizo famoso entre los tres.

And Abishai brother of Joab, son of Zeruiah, he head of three, and he is lifting up his spear against three hundred -- wounded, and he hath a name among three.

19 E ra, de hecho, el más famoso de los treinta, y llegó a ser su jefe, pero no llegó a igualar a los tres primeros.

Of the three is he not the honoured? and he becometh their head; and unto the three he hath not come.

20 L e seguía Benaías hijo de Joyadá, hijo de un valiente de Cabsel, que realizó grandes proezas: mató a dos moabitas muy aguerridos; y un día, que estaba nevando, se metió a un foso y mató a un león.

And Benaiah son of Jehoiada (son of a man of valour, great in deeds from Kabzeel), he hath smitten two lion-like men of Moab, and he hath gone down and smitten the lion in the midst of the pit in a day of snow.

21 E n otra ocasión, se enfrentó a un egipcio de gran estatura, que traía una lanza en su mano; pero Benaías se lanzó contra el egipcio con sólo un palo, y lo desarmó y lo mató con su propia lanza.

And he hath smitten the Egyptian man, a man of appearance, and in the hand of the Egyptian a spear, and he goeth down unto him with a rod, and taketh violently away the spear out of the hand of the Egyptian, and slayeth him with his own spear.

22 C on esto, Benaías hijo de Joyadá se hizo famoso entre los tres valientes.

These hath Benaiah son of Jehoiada done, and hath a name among three mighty.

23 Y aunque se destacó entre los treinta más valientes, no logró igualar a los tres primeros. Sin embargo, David lo puso como jefe de su guardia personal.

Of the thirty he is honoured, and unto the three he came not; and David setteth him over his guard.

24 A sael, que era hermano de Joab, fue contado entre los treinta más valientes; Eljanán hijo de Dodo, de Belén;

Asahel brother of Joab of the thirty; Elhanan son of Dodo of Beth-Lehem.

25 S amá el harodita, Elica el harodita,

Shammah the Harodite, Elika the Harodite,

26 H eles el paltita, Ira hijo de Iques, el tecoíta,

Helez the Paltite, Ira son of Ikkesh the Tekoite,

27 A biezer el anatotita, Mebunay el husatita,

Abiezer the Annethothite, Mebunnai the Hushathite,

28 S almón el ajojita, Maray el netofatita,

Zalmon the Ahohite, Maharai the Netophathite,

29 J éleb hijo de Baná, el netofatita, Itay hijo de Ribay, el benjaminita de Gabaa;

Heleb son of Baanah the Netophathite, Ittai son of Ribai from Gibeah of the sons of Benjamin,

30 B enaías el piratonita, Hiday, el del arroyo de Gaas;

Benaiah the Pirathonite, Hiddai of the brooks of Gaash,

31 A bí Albón el arbatita, Azmavet el barhumita,

Abi-Albon the Arbathite, Azmaveth the Barhumite,

32 E lijaba el salbonita, Jonatán, de los descendientes de Jasén;

Eliahba the Shaalbonite, the sons of Jashen, Jonathan,

33 S amá el ararita, Ajían hijo de Sarar, el ararita;

Shammah the Hararite, Ahiam son of Sharar the Hararite,

34 E lifelet hijo de Ajasbay, nieto de Macá; Elián hijo de Ajitofel, el gilonita;

Eliphelet son of Ahasbai, son of the Maachathite, Eliam son of Ahithophel the Gilonite,

35 J esray el carmelita, Paray el arbita,

Hezrai the Carmelite, Paarai the Arbite,

36 I gal hijo de Natán, el de Soba; Bani el gadita,

Igal son of Nathan from Zobah, Bani the Gadite,

37 S elec el amonita, Najaray el berotita, que era el escudero de Joab hijo de Seruyá;

Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Beerothite, bearer of the weapons of Joab son of Zeruiah,

38 I ra el itrita, Gareb el itrita,

Ira the Ithrite, Gareb the Ithrite,

39 U rías el hitita. En total, treinta y siete valientes.

Uriah the Hittite; in all thirty and seven.
