1 E l Señor habló con Moisés, y le dijo:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

2 « Toma venganza por los hijos de Israel en contra de los madianitas. Después de eso, irás a reunirte con tus antepasados.»

`Execute the vengeance of the sons of Israel against the Midianites -- afterwards thou art gathered unto thy people.'

3 M oisés fue entonces a hablar con el pueblo, y les dijo: «Tomen sus armas algunos de ustedes, y vayan a pelear contra Madián. Vamos a tomar venganza de ellos en nombre del Señor.

And Moses speaketh unto the people, saying, `Be ye armed some of you for the host, and they are against Midian, to put the vengeance of Jehovah on Midian;

4 C ada una de las doce tribus de Israel debe enviar a la guerra mil soldados.»

a thousand for a tribe -- a thousand for a tribe, to all the tribes of Israel -- ye do send to the host.'

5 F ue así como de las legiones de Israel se formó un ejército de doce mil soldados en pie de guerra, a razón de mil por cada tribu.

And there are given out of the thousands of Israel a thousand for a tribe, twelve thousand armed ones of the host;

6 A esos mil de cada tribu los envió Moisés a la guerra. Finés, el hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, fue a la guerra con ellos, llevando en sus manos los vasos del santuario y las trompetas para tocarlas.

and Moses sendeth them, a thousand for a tribe, to the host, them and Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest, to the host; and the holy vessels, and the trumpets of the shouting, in his hand.

7 Y los israelitas pelearon contra Madián, tal y como el Señor se lo ordenó a Moisés, y mataron a todos sus hombres.

And they war against Midian, as Jehovah hath commanded Moses, and slay every male;

8 E ntre ellos mataron también a los cinco reyes de Madián, es decir, a Evi, Requén, Sur, Jur y Reba, y mataron también a filo de espada a Balaam hijo de Beor.

and the kings of Midian they have slain, besides their pierced ones, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian; and Balaam son of Beor, they have slain with the sword.

9 L os israelitas se llevaron cautivas a las mujeres de los madianitas, y a sus niños, y les arrebataron todos sus bienes, lo mismo que todas sus bestias y todos sus ganados,

And the sons of Israel take captive the women of Midian, and their infants; and all their cattle, and all their substance, and all their wealth they have plundered;

10 e incendiaron todas las ciudades y aldeas donde habitaban.

and all their cities, with their habitations, and all their towers, they have burnt with fire.

11 R ecogieron todos los despojos, y todo el botín de guerra, tanto de hombres como de animales,

And they take all the spoil, and all the prey, among man and among beast;

12 y todo se lo llevaron a Moisés y al sacerdote Eleazar, y a la congregación de los hijos de Israel. Los cautivos, el botín y los despojos los llevaron al campamento, el cual estaba en los llanos de Moab, junto al Jordán y frente a Jericó.

and they bring in, unto Moses, and unto Eleazar the priest, and unto the company of the sons of Israel, the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto the camp, unto the plains of Moab, which by Jordan, Jericho.

13 M oisés y el sacerdote Eleazar, y todos los príncipes de la congregación, salieron a recibirlos fuera del campamento.

And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the company, go out to meet them, unto the outside of the camp,

14 P ero Moisés se enojó contra los capitanes del ejército y contra los jefes de miles y centenas que volvían de la guerra.

and Moses is wroth against the inspectors of the force, chiefs of the thousands, and chiefs of the hundreds, who are coming in from the host of the battle.

15 L es reclamó: «¿Por qué dejaron con vida a todas las mujeres?

And Moses saith unto them, `Have ye kept alive every female?

16 P or culpa de Balaam y de sus consejos ellas fueron la causa de que los hijos de Israel pecaran contra el Señor en relación con Baal Pegor. ¡Por eso hubo tan gran mortandad en la congregación del Señor!

lo, they -- they have been to the sons of Israel, through the word of Balaam, to cause a trespass against Jehovah in the matter of Peor, and the plague is in the company of Jehovah.

17 A sí que, ahora, maten a todos los niños varones, y maten también a toda mujer que haya tenido relaciones carnales con algún hombre.

`And now, slay ye every male among the infants, yea, every woman known of man by the lying of a male ye have slain;

18 S ólo dejen con vida a todas las niñas que aún sean vírgenes.

and all the infants among the women, who have not known the lying of a male, ye have kept alive for yourselves.

19 E n cuanto a ustedes, cualquiera que haya dado muerte a otro, y cualquiera que haya tocado algún cadáver, se quedará fuera del campamento siete días. Al tercer día, y al séptimo, tanto ustedes como sus cautivos deberán purificarse,

`And ye, encamp ye at the outside of the camp seven days -- any who hath slain a person, and any who hath come against a pierced one, ye cleanse yourselves on the third day, and on the seventh day -- ye and your captives;

20 y también deberán purificar todo vestido, toda prenda de piel, todo tejido de pelo de cabra, y todo utensilio de madera.» Repartición del botín

and every garment, and every skin vessel, and every work of goats', and every wooden vessel, ye yourselves cleanse.'

21 P or su parte, el sacerdote Eleazar les dijo a los soldados que volvían del combate: «Ésta es la ordenanza de la ley que el Señor le ha dado a Moisés:

And Eleazar the priest saith unto the men of the host who go in to battle, `This the statute of the law which Jehovah hath commanded Moses:

22 T odo el oro y la plata, y el bronce, el hierro, el estaño y el plomo,

only, the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead,

23 y todo lo que resista el fuego, tendrán que pasarlo por el fuego para purificarlo, aunque también tendrá que purificarse en las aguas de purificación. Todo lo que no resista el fuego tendrán que pasarlo por el agua.

every thing which may go into fire, ye cause to pass over through fire, and it hath been clean; only, with the water of separation it is cleansed, and all that may not go into fire, ye cause to pass over through water;

24 A demás, el séptimo día lavarán sus vestidos, y así serán purificados. Después de eso, podrán entrar en el campamento.»

and ye have washed your garments on the seventh day, and have been clean, and afterwards ye come in unto the camp.'

25 E l Señor habló con Moisés, y le dijo:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

26 « Hagan tú y el sacerdote Eleazar, junto con los jefes de los padres de la congregación, una relación del botín que se ha capturado, tanto de la gente como de los animales,

`Take up the sum of the prey of the captives, among man and among beast, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the heads of the fathers of the company;

27 y repártelo entre los que salieron a la guerra y entre toda la congregación.

and thou hast halved the prey between those handling the battle who go out to the host and all the company;

28 D el tributo de los que salieron a la guerra, apartarás para mí uno de cada quinientos hombres y uno de cada quinientos bueyes, asnos y ovejas.

and thou hast raised a tribute to Jehovah from the men of war, who go out to the host, one body out of five hundred, of man, and of the herd, and of the asses, and of the flock;

29 L os tomarás de la parte que les toque, y se los darás al sacerdote Eleazar como la ofrenda que me corresponde.

from their half ye do take, and thou hast given to Eleazar the priest -- the heave-offering of Jehovah.

30 D e la parte que les toque a los hijos de Israel tomarás una de cada cincuenta personas, y uno de cada cincuenta bueyes, asnos y ovejas, y de cualquier otro animal. Todo esto se lo darás a los levitas, que tienen a su cargo mi tabernáculo.»

`And from the sons of Israel's half thou dost take one possession out of fifty, of man, of the herd, of the asses, and of the flock, of all the cattle, and thou hast given them to the Levites keeping the charge of the tabernacle of Jehovah.'

31 M oisés y el sacerdote Eleazar hicieron tal y como el Señor se lo ordenó a Moisés.

And Moses doth -- Eleazar the priest also -- as Jehovah hath commanded Moses.

32 Y el resto del botín que tomaron los soldados fue de seiscientas setenta y cinco mil ovejas,

And the prey, the residue of the spoil which the people of the host have spoiled, is of the flock six hundred thousand, and seventy thousand, and five thousand;

33 s etenta y dos mil bueyes,

and of the herd two and seventy thousand;

34 y sesenta y un mil asnos.

and of asses one and sixty thousand;

35 E n cuanto a las mujeres que todavía eran vírgenes, eran un total de treinta y dos mil.

and of human beings -- of the women who have not known the lying of a male -- all the persons two and thirty thousand.

36 L a parte que correspondía a los que habían salido a la guerra fue de trescientas treinta y siete mil quinientas ovejas,

And the half -- the portion of those who go out into the host -- the number of the flock is three hundred thousand, and thirty thousand, and seven thousand and five hundred.

37 y el tributo de las ovejas para el Señor fue de seiscientas setenta y cinco.

And the tribute to Jehovah of the sheep is six hundred five and seventy;

38 L os bueyes sumaron treinta y seis mil, de los cuales setenta y dos fueron el tributo para el Señor.

and the herd six and thirty thousand, and their tribute to Jehovah two and seventy;

39 L os asnos eran treinta mil quinientos, de los cuales sesenta y uno fueron el tributo para el Señor.

and the asses thirty thousand and five hundred, and their tribute to Jehovah one and sixty;

40 L as personas fueron dieciséis mil, de las cuales treinta y dos personas fueron el tributo para el Señor.

and the human beings sixteen thousand, and their tribute to Jehovah two and thirty persons.

41 M oisés entregó el tributo al sacerdote Eleazar, como ofrenda elevada para el Señor, tal y como el Señor se lo ordenó a Moisés.

And Moses giveth the tribute -- Jehovah's heave-offering -- to Eleazar the priest, as Jehovah hath commanded Moses.

42 L uego Moisés apartó, de los que habían ido a la guerra, la parte que les correspondía a los hijos de Israel.

And of the sons of Israel's half, which Moses halved from the men who war --

43 ( La parte que le correspondió a la congregación fue de trescientas treinta y siete mil quinientas ovejas,

and the company's half is, of the flock three hundred thousand, and thirty thousand, seven thousand and five hundred;

44 t reinta y seis mil bueyes,

and of the herd six and thirty thousand;

45 t reinta mil quinientos asnos,

and of asses thirty thousand and five hundred;

46 y dieciséis mil personas.)

and of human beings sixteen thousand --

47 D e la parte correspondiente a los hijos de Israel, Moisés tomó una de cada cincuenta personas y uno de cada cincuenta animales, y se los dio a los levitas, los cuales tenían a su cargo el tabernáculo del Señor, tal y como el Señor se lo había ordenado.

Moses taketh from the sons of Israel's half the one possession from the fifty, of man and of beast, and giveth them to the Levites keeping the charge of the tabernacle of Jehovah, as Jehovah hath commanded Moses.

48 D espués los jefes de aquel ejército, es decir, los jefes de millares y de centenas, fueron a ver a Moisés

And the inspectors whom the thousands of the host hath, (heads of the thousands and heads of the hundreds), draw near unto Moses,

49 y le dijeron: «Tus siervos han pasado revista de los soldados que están bajo nuestro mando, y ninguno de nosotros falta.

and they say unto Moses, `Thy servants have taken up the sum of the men of war who with us, and not a man of us hath been missed;

50 P or eso hemos decidido presentar al Señor una ofrenda de las alhajas de oro, brazaletes, manillas, anillos, zarcillos y cadenas que cada uno de nosotros ha hallado, para hacer expiación por nosotros delante del Señor.»

and we bring near Jehovah's offering, each that which he hath found, vessels of gold -- chain, and bracelet, seal-ring, -ring, and bead -- to make atonement for ourselves before Jehovah.'

51 M oisés y el sacerdote Eleazar recibieron de manos de ellos el oro y las alhajas,

And Moses receiveth -- Eleazar the priest also -- the gold from them, every made vessel,

52 y todo el oro que los jefes de millares y de centenas ofrendaron al Señor pesó más de ciento ochenta y cuatro kilos.

and all the gold of the heave-offering which they have lifted up to Jehovah is sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels, from heads of the thousands, and from heads of the hundreds;

53 C ada soldado había tomado botín para sí mismo.

(the men of the host have spoiled each for himself);

54 A sí que Moisés y el sacerdote Eleazar recibieron el oro de los jefes de millares y de centenas, y lo llevaron al tabernáculo de reunión, como memorial de los hijos de Israel delante del Señor.

and Moses taketh -- Eleazar the priest also -- the gold from the heads of the thousands and of the hundreds, and they bring it in unto the tent of meeting -- a memorial for the sons of Israel before Jehovah.
