And yet, I pray thee, O Job, Hear my speech and all my words give ear.

2 A briré mi labios y diré lo que tengo ya en la punta de la lengua.

Lo, I pray thee, I have opened my mouth, My tongue hath spoken in the palate.

3 M is palabras brotan de un corazón sincero; lo que me oigas decir no lleva mala intención.

Of the uprightness of my heart my sayings, And knowledge have my lips clearly spoken.

4 E l espíritu de Dios me ha creado; el soplo del Todopoderoso me dio vida.

The Spirit of God hath made me, And the breath of the Mighty doth quicken me.

5 ¡ Veamos si puedes responderme! ¡Ordena tus palabras, y enfréntate a mí!

If thou art able -- answer me, Set in array before me -- station thyself.

6 ¡ Por Dios, yo soy igual que tú! ¡También yo fui formado del barro!

Lo, I, according to thy word, for God, From the clay I -- I also, have been formed.

7 A nte mí, nada tienes que temer, pues no descargaré mi puño sobre ti.

Lo, my terror doth not frighten thee, And my burden on thee is not heavy.

8 » Con mis oídos te oí decir, o al menos esto fue lo que escuché:

Surely -- thou hast said in mine ears, And the sounds of words I hear:

9 “ Yo estoy limpio, y en mí no hay pecado; soy inocente, y en mí no hay maldad.

`Pure I, without transgression, Innocent I, and I have no iniquity.

10 ¡ Es Dios quien busca de qué acusarme! ¡Es Dios quien me tiene por su enemigo!

Lo, occasions against me He doth find, He doth reckon me for an enemy to Him,

11 ¡ Me ha puesto grilletes en los pies, y me vigila por dondequiera que voy!”

He doth put in the stocks my feet, He doth watch all my paths.'

12 » Debo decirte que no hablas con justicia; Dios es más que el ser humano.

Lo, this thou hast not been righteous, I answer thee, that greater is God than man.

13 ¿ Por qué te empeñas en contender con él? ¡Dios no tiene por qué responderte!

Wherefore against Him hast thou striven, When all His matters He answereth not?

14 É l nos habla de muchas maneras, pero nosotros nunca entendemos.

For once doth God speak, and twice, (He doth not behold it.)

15 N os habla en sueños, en visiones nocturnas, cuando el sueño nos vence y nos dormimos;

In a dream -- a vision of night, In the falling of deep sleep on men, In slumberings on a bed.

16 e ntonces nos habla al oído, y nos indica lo que debemos hacer,

Then He uncovereth the ear of men, And for their instruction sealeth:

17 p ara que nos apartemos del mal y dejemos de lado la soberbia;

To turn aside man doing, And pride from man He concealeth.

18 p ara que nos libremos de la tumba o de sufrir una muerte violenta.

He keepeth back his soul from corruption, And his life from passing away by a dart.

19 » Dios nos corrige con enfermedades, y con fuertes dolores de huesos;

And he hath been reproved With pain on his bed, And the strife of his bones enduring.

20 ¡ hasta llegamos a aborrecer la comida, y por deliciosa que sea, no se nos antoja!

And his life hath nauseated bread, And his soul desirable food.

21 E l cuerpo se nos va enjutando, hasta dejar ver todos nuestros huesos.

His flesh is consumed from being seen, And high are his bones, they were not seen!

22 C uando nos vemos al borde del sepulcro, y llegamos a las puertas de la muerte,

And draw near to the pit doth his soul, And his life to those causing death.

23 a veces viene un ángel bondadoso, uno entre mil, que intercede por nosotros y da a conocer nuestras buenas acciones;

If there is by him a messenger, An interpreter -- one of a thousand, To declare for man his uprightness:

24 s e compadece de nosotros y le dice a Dios: “¡No lo dejes caer en el sepulcro que ya he encontrado cómo rescatarlo!”

Then He doth favour him and saith, `Ransom him from going down to the pit, I have found an atonement.'

25 S u cuerpo recobra la lozanía de un niño, y vuelve a regocijarse como en su juventud.

Fresher his flesh than a child's, He returneth to the days of his youth.

26 E ntonces ora a Dios, y en su bondad Dios lo deja ver su rostro, le devuelve la alegría, y lo restaura a su estado anterior:

He maketh supplication unto God, And He accepteth him. And he seeth His face with shouting, And He returneth to man His righteousness.

27 e ntonces canta ante sus semejantes, y reconoce su pecado y su injusticia, y admite que no sacó ningún provecho;

He looketh on men, and saith, `I sinned, And uprightness I have perverted, And it hath not been profitable to me.

28 e ntonces Dios lo libra del sepulcro y le hace volver a ver la luz.

He hath ransomed my soul From going over into the pit, And my life on the light looketh.'

29 » Con tal bondad nos trata Dios cuantas veces sea necesario,

Lo, all these doth God work, Twice -- thrice with man,

30 p ara librarnos de caer en el sepulcro y alumbrarnos con la luz de la vida.

To bring back his soul from the pit, To be enlightened with the light of the living.

31 E scúchame, Job; préstame atención. Guarda silencio, que tengo que hablarte.

Attend, O Job, hearken to me, Keep silent, and I -- I do speak.

32 S i tienes algo que decir, respóndeme, que yo quiero demostrar tu inocencia.

If there are words -- answer me, Speak, for I have a desire to justify thee.

33 D e lo contrario, escúchame tú a mí; calla y déjame enseñarte a ser sabio.»

If there are not -- hearken thou to me, Keep silent, and I teach thee wisdom.
