1 D espués Moisés y Aarón se presentaron ante el faraón, y le dijeron: «El Señor, el Dios de Israel, dice así: “Deja ir a mi pueblo, para que celebren en el desierto una fiesta en mi honor.”»

And afterwards have Moses and Aaron entered, and they say unto Pharaoh, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Send My people away, and they keep a feast to Me in the wilderness;'

2 P ero el faraón respondió: «¿Y quién es “el Señor”, para que yo le haga caso y deje ir a Israel? Yo no conozco al Señor, ni tampoco dejaré ir a Israel.»

and Pharaoh saith, `Who Jehovah, that I hearken to His voice, to send Israel away? I have not known Jehovah, and Israel also I do not send away.'

3 E llos dijeron entonces: «El Dios de los hebreos nos ha encontrado, así que ahora vamos a ir al desierto camino de tres días, y allí ofreceremos sacrificios al Señor nuestro Dios. No vaya a ser que venga contra nosotros con peste o con espada.»

And they say, `The God of the Hebrews hath met with us, let us go, we pray thee, a journey of three days into the wilderness, and we sacrifice to Jehovah our God, lest He meet us with pestilence or with sword.'

4 P ero el rey de Egipto les dijo: «Moisés y Aarón, ¿por qué hacen que el pueblo abandone su trabajo? ¡Vayan a cumplir con sus tareas!»

And the king of Egypt saith unto them, `Why, Moses and Aaron, do ye free the people from its works? go to your burdens.'

5 Y también dijo el faraón: «Como pueden ver, es mucha la gente que hay en el país, ¡y ustedes le impiden cumplir con sus tareas!»

Pharaoh also saith, `Lo, numerous now the people of the land, and ye have caused them to cease from their burdens!'

6 E se mismo día el faraón dio esta orden a los jefes de cuadrilla que tenían a su cargo al pueblo, y a sus capataces:

And Pharaoh commandeth, on that day, the exactors among the people and its authorities, saying,

7 « De aquí en adelante no le darán al pueblo paja para hacer ladrillo, como lo han hecho hasta ahora. ¡Que vayan ellos mismos a recoger la paja!

`Ye do not add to give straw to the people for the making of the bricks, as heretofore -- they go and have gathered straw for themselves;

8 P ero los obligarán a hacer la misma cantidad de ladrillo que antes hacían. No les reduzcan ni un solo ladrillo. Lo que pasa es que están ociosos, y por eso levantan la voz y dicen: “Vayamos a ofrecer sacrificios a nuestro Dios.”

and the proper quantity of the bricks which they are making heretofore ye do put on them, ye do not diminish from it, for they are remiss, therefore they are crying, saying, Let us go, let us sacrifice to our God;

9 H áganlos trabajar más todavía. Que se mantengan ocupados y no hagan caso de mentiras.»

let the service be heavy on the men, and let them work at it, and not be dazzled by lying words.'

10 L os jefes de cuadrilla y sus capataces fueron a hablar con el pueblo, y les dijeron: «Así ha dicho el faraón: “Ya no les voy a dar paja.”

And the exactors of the people, and its authorities, go out, and speak unto the people, saying, `Thus said Pharaoh, I do not give you straw,

11 A sí que vayan ustedes mismos a recoger paja donde la encuentren, pero su tarea no se reducirá en nada.»

ye -- go ye, take for yourselves straw where ye find, for there is nothing of your service diminished.'

12 E ntonces el pueblo se esparció por todo Egipto, y en lugar de paja iban recogiendo rastrojo.

And the people is scattered over all the land of Egypt, to gather stubble for straw,

13 L os cuadrilleros los apremiaban, y les decían: «Cumplan con su tarea. Hagan los mismos ladrillos que hacían cuando se les daba paja.»

and the exactors are making haste, saying, `Complete your works, the matter of a day in its day, as when there is straw.'

14 P or su parte, los capataces de los hijos de Israel, que los jefes de cuadrilla del faraón habían puesto sobre ellos, los azotaban y les decían: «¿Por qué ni ayer ni hoy cumplieron con su tarea de ladrillos, como antes lo hacían?»

And the authorities of the sons of Israel, whom the exactors of Pharaoh have placed over them, are beaten, saying, `Wherefore have ye not completed your portion in making brick as heretofore, both yesterday and to-day?'

15 P or eso los capataces de los hijos de Israel fueron a hablar con el faraón, y se quejaron con él. Le dijeron: «¿Por qué tratas así a tus siervos?

And the authorities of the sons of Israel come in and cry unto Pharaoh, saying, `Why dost thou thus to thy servants?

16 P aja no se nos da, y sin embargo nos ordenan: “Hagan ladrillos.” ¡Ahora resulta que a tus siervos se les azota, cuando que el culpable es tu pueblo!»

Straw is not given to thy servants, and they are saying to us, Make bricks, and lo, thy servants are smitten -- and thy people hath sinned.'

17 P ero el faraón respondió: «Ustedes están ociosos. Tan ociosos están, que por eso dicen: “Vayamos a ofrecer sacrificios al Señor.”

And he saith, `Remiss -- ye are remiss, therefore ye are saying, Let us go, let us sacrifice to Jehovah;

18 ¡ Váyanse ya a trabajar! Paja no se les va a dar, pero la cantidad de ladrillos que deben entregar será la misma.»

and now, go, serve; and straw is not given to you, and the measure of bricks ye do give.'

19 L os capataces de los hijos de Israel se vieron en aprietos cuando se les dijo: «No se disminuirá un solo ladrillo de la cantidad que deben entregar cada día.»

And the authorities of the sons of Israel see them in affliction, saying, `Ye do not diminish from your bricks; the matter of a day in its day.'

20 Y como al salir de la presencia del faraón encontraron a Moisés y Aarón, que los estaban esperando,

And they meet Moses and Aaron standing to meet them, in their coming out from Pharaoh,

21 l es dijeron: «¡Que el Señor los mire y los juzgue! Ustedes nos han hecho odiosos a la vista del faraón y de sus siervos. ¡Les han puesto la espada en la mano, para que nos maten!» El Señor comisiona a Moisés y a Aarón

and say unto them, `Jehovah look upon you, and judge, because ye have caused our fragrance to stink in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants -- to give a sword into their hand to slay us.'

22 E ntonces Moisés se dirigió al Señor, y le dijo: «Señor, ¿por qué afliges a este pueblo? ¿Para qué me enviaste?

And Moses turneth back unto Jehovah, and saith, `Lord, why hast Thou done evil to this people? why this? -- Thou hast sent me!

23 D esde que yo vine para hablar en tu nombre al faraón, éste ha afligido a tu pueblo, ¡y tú no lo has liberado!»

and since I have come unto Pharaoh, to speak in Thy name, he hath done evil to this people, and Thou hast not at all delivered Thy people.'
