1 D espués de la muerte de Josué, los israelitas consultaron al Señor, y le preguntaron: «¿Quién de nosotros irá primero a pelear contra los cananeos?»

And it cometh to pass, after the death of Joshua, that the sons of Israel ask at Jehovah, saying, `Who doth go up for us unto the Canaanite, at the commencement, to fight against it?'

2 Y el Señor respondió: «El primero será Judá, porque yo he puesto la tierra en sus manos.»

And Jehovah saith, `Judah doth go up; lo, I have given the land into his hand.'

3 J udá dijo entonces a su hermano Simeón: «Acompáñame al lugar que me ha tocado en suerte. Pelea conmigo contra los cananeos, y yo te acompañaré cuando vayas a reclamar tu tierra.» Y Simeón lo acompañó,

And Judah saith to Simeon his brother, `Go up with me into my lot, and we fight against the Canaanite -- and I have gone, even I, with thee into thy lot;' and Simeon goeth with him.

4 y el Señor entregó en sus manos a los cananeos y los ferezeos, y en Bezec hirieron de muerte a diez mil hombres.

And Judah goeth up, and Jehovah giveth the Canaanite and the Perizzite into their hand, and they smite them in Bezek -- ten thousand men;

5 Y como en Bezec hallaron a Adonibésec, pelearon contra él y derrotaron a los cananeos y ferezeos.

and they find Adoni-Bezek in Bezek, and fight against him, and smite the Canaanite and the Perizzite.

6 P ero Adonibésec huyó, así que lo persiguieron, y cuando lo aprehendieron le cortaron los pulgares de las manos y los dedos gordos de los pies.

And Adoni-Bezek fleeth, and they pursue after him, and seize him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes,

7 E ntonces Adonibésec dijo: «A setenta reyes les corté los pulgares de las manos y los dedos gordos de los pies, y así recogían las migajas debajo de mi mesa. Lo mismo que les hice a ellos, ahora Dios lo hace conmigo.» Y lo llevaron a Jerusalén, donde murió. Judá conquista Jerusalén y Hebrón

and Adoni-Bezek saith, `Seventy kings -- their thumbs and their great toes cut off -- have been gathering under my table; as I have done so hath God repaid to me;' and they bring him in to Jerusalem, and he dieth there.

8 L os hijos de Judá atacaron la ciudad de Jerusalén y la tomaron, y mataron a sus habitantes a filo de espada, y luego le prendieron fuego a la ciudad.

And the sons of Judah fight against Jerusalem, and capture it, and smite it by the mouth of the sword, and the city they have sent into fire;

9 D espués de eso, fueron a pelear contra los cananeos que habitaban en las montañas, en el Néguev, y en los llanos,

and afterwards have the sons of Judah gone down to fight against the Canaanite, inhabiting the hill-country, and the south, and the low country;

10 y también marcharon contra los cananeos que vivían en Hebrón, y que antes se llamaba Quiriat Arbá. Allí hirieron a Sesay, a Ajimán y a Talmay. Otoniel conquista Debir y recibe a Acsa

and Judah goeth unto the Canaanite who is dwelling in Hebron (and the name of Hebron formerly Kirjath-Arba), and they smite Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

11 D e Hebrón marcharon contra los habitantes de Debir, ciudad que antes se llamaba Quiriat Séfer.

And he goeth thence unto the inhabitants of Debir (and the name of Debir formerly Kirjath-Sepher),

12 A llí Caleb dijo: «Mi hija Acsa será la mujer de quien ataque Quiriat Séfer y la conquiste.»

and Caleb saith, `He who smiteth Kirjath-Sepher -- and hath captured it -- then I have given to him Achsah my daughter for a wife.'

13 Y Otoniel hijo de Cenaz, hermano de Caleb, la conquistó y recibió por mujer a Acsa.

And Othniel son of Kenaz, younger brother of Caleb, doth capture it, and he giveth to him Achsah his daughter for a wife.

14 Y ya se iba ella con Otoniel, cuando él la persuadió de pedirle a su padre tierras de cultivo. Entonces Acsa se apeó del asno, y Caleb le preguntó: «¿Qué es lo que quieres?»

And it cometh to pass in her coming in, that she persuadeth him to ask from her father the field, and she lighteth from off the ass, and Caleb saith to her, `What -- to thee?'

15 Y ella le respondió: «Hazme un regalo. Ya que me diste las tierras del Néguev, dame también manantiales.» Y Caleb le dio los manantiales de arriba y los de abajo. Extensión de las conquistas de Judá y de Benjamín

And she saith to him, `Give to me a blessing; when the south land thou hast given me -- then thou hast given to me springs of water; and Caleb giveth to her the upper springs and the lower springs.

16 L os quenitas, que eran descendientes del suegro de Moisés, salieron de la ciudad de las palmeras y se fueron a vivir con los hijos de Judá, en el desierto que está en el Néguev cerca de Arad.

And the sons of the Kenite, father-in-law of Moses, have gone up out of the city of palms with the sons of Judah the wilderness of Judah, which in the south of Arad, and they go and dwell with the people.

17 J udá acompañó a su hermano Simeón a luchar contra los cananeos que habitaban en Sefat, y los derrotaron, y luego de destruir la ciudad le pusieron por nombre Jormá.

And Judah goeth with Simeon his brother, and they smite the Canaanite inhabiting Zephath, and devote it; and calleth the name of the city Hormah.

18 J udá también tomó Gaza, Ascalón y Ecrón, con sus territorios.

And Judah captureth Gaza and its border, and Askelon and its border, and Ekron and its border;

19 C omo el Señor estaba de parte de Judá, éste arrojó a los habitantes de las montañas, aunque no logró hacer lo mismo con los habitantes de los llanos porque ellos tenían carros de hierro.

and Jehovah is with Judah, and he occupieth the hill-country, but not to dispossess the inhabitants of the valley, for they have chariots of iron.

20 P ero Caleb recibió Hebrón, tal como Moisés lo había dicho, y arrojó de allí a los tres hijos de Anac.

And they give to Caleb Hebron, as Moses hath spoken, and he dispossesseth thence the three sons of Anak.

21 S in embargo, los benjaminitas no pudieron expulsar a los jebuseos que habitaban en Jerusalén, y éstos se quedaron allí, conviviendo con los benjaminitas hasta el día de hoy. José conquista Betel

And the Jebusite, inhabiting Jerusalem, the sons of Benjamin have not dispossessed; and the Jebusite dwelleth with the sons of Benjamin, in Jerusalem, till this day.

22 E l Señor también estaba con la tribu de José, que fue y peleó contra Betel, que antes se llamaba Luz,

And the house of Joseph go up -- even they -- to Beth-El, and Jehovah with them;

23 y donde puso espías en las afueras de la ciudad.

and the house of Joseph cause to spy about Beth-El (and the name of the city formerly is Luz),

24 C uando los espías vieron a un hombre salir de la ciudad, lo llamaron y le dijeron: «Dinos cómo entrar a la ciudad, y tendremos compasión de ti.»

and the watchers see a man coming out from the city, and say to him, `Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance of the city, and we have done with thee kindness.'

25 Y cuando el hombre les mostró la puerta, entraron hiriendo a filo de espada a sus moradores, pero al hombre que los ayudó, lo dejaron ir con toda su familia.

And he sheweth them the entrance of the city, and they smite the city by the mouth of the sword, and the man and all his family they have sent away;

26 Y el hombre se fue a la tierra de los hititas, donde edificó una ciudad que llamó Luz; y así se llama hasta el día de hoy. Conquistas de Manasés y de Efraín

and the man goeth to the land of the Hittites, and buildeth a city, and calleth its name Luz -- it its name unto this day.

27 M anasés tampoco pudo vencer a los habitantes de Bet Seán, ni a los de Tanac, ni a los de Dor, ni a los habitantes de Ibleam, ni a los de Meguido y sus aldeas, así que los cananeos siguieron ocupando esas tierras.

And Manasseh hath not occupied Beth-Shean and its towns, and Taanach and its towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of Iblaim and its towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns, and the Canaanite is desirous to dwell in that land;

28 C uando los israelitas se hicieron fuertes, lograron imponerles tributo pero no los expulsaron.

and it cometh to pass, when Israel hath been strong, that he setteth the Canaanite to tribute, and hath not utterly dispossessed it.

29 T ampoco los efraimitas pudieron expulsar a los cananeos de Guézer, y éstos se quedaron allí, entre ellos. Conquistas de las otras tribus

And Ephraim hath not dispossessed the Canaanite who is dwelling in Gezer, and the Canaanite dwelleth in its midst, in Gezer.

30 Z abulón tampoco pudo expulsar a los habitantes de Quitrón, ni a los de Nalal, así que los cananeos se quedaron a vivir entre ellos, aunque pagando tributo.

Zebulun hath not dispossessed the inhabitants of Kitron, and the inhabitants of Nahalol, and the Canaanite dwelleth in its midst, and they become tributary.

31 T ampoco Aser pudo arrojar a los habitantes de Aco, ni a los de Sidón, en Ajlab, en Aczib, en Jelba, en Afec y en Rejob,

Asher hath not dispossessed the inhabitants of Accho, and the inhabitants of Zidon, and Ahlab, and Achzib, and Helbah, and Aphik, and Rehob;

32 s ino que tuvo que vivir entre los cananeos de esa tierra.

and the Asherite dwelleth in the midst of the Canaanite, the inhabitants of the land, for it hath not dispossessed them.

33 N eftalí no pudo arrojar a los habitantes de Bet Semes, ni a los de Bet Anat, y vivió entre los cananeos, pero les impuso tributo a los de Bet Semes y de Bet Anat.

Naphtali hath not dispossessed the inhabitants of Beth-Shemesh, and the inhabitants of Beth-Anath, and he dwelleth in the midst of the Canaanite, the inhabitants of the land; and the inhabitants of Beth-Shemesh and of Beth-Anath have become tributary to them.

34 L os amorreos persiguieron a los danitas hasta las montañas, y no les permitieron bajar a las llanuras.

And the Amorites press the sons of Dan to the mountain, for they have not suffered them to go down to the valley;

35 L os amorreos siguieron viviendo en el monte de Heres, en Ayalón y en Sagalbín; pero cuando la tribu de José se hizo fuerte, los obligó a pagar tributo.

and the Amorite is desirous to dwell in mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim, and the hand of the house of Joseph is heavy, and they become tributary;

36 L a frontera con los amorreos empezaba en la cuesta de Acrabín, desde Sela hasta la cima.

and the border of the Amorite from the ascent of Akrabbim, from the rock and upward.
