1 P rofecía sobre Babilonia, que fue revelada a Isaías hijo de Amoz.

The burden of Babylon that Isaiah son of Amoz hath seen:

2 ¡ Levanten la bandera sobre un alto monte! ¡Levanten la voz contra ellos! ¡Levanten la mano, para que entren por las puertas de los príncipes!

`On a high mountain lift ye up an ensign, Raise the voice to them, wave the hand, And they go in to the openings of nobles.

3 Y o di órdenes a mis consagrados; convoqué también a mis valientes, a los que se alegran con mi triunfo, para que ejecuten mi castigo.

I have given charge to My sanctified ones, Also I have called My mighty ones for Mine anger, Those rejoicing at Mine excellency.'

4 H ay gran estruendo en los montes, como de mucha gente; ruidoso estruendo de reinos, de naciones que se reúnen. El Señor de los ejércitos pasa revista a las tropas para la batalla.

A voice of a multitude in the mountains, A likeness of a numerous people, A voice of noise from the kingdoms of nations who are gathered, Jehovah of Hosts inspecting a host of battle!

5 E l Señor y los instrumentos de su ira vienen de lejanas tierras, desde los confines de los cielos, para destruir toda la tierra.

They are coming in from a land afar off, From the end of the heavens, Jehovah and the instruments of His indignation, To destroy all the land.

6 ¡ Griten de dolor, que cercano está el día del Señor! ¡Viene como asolamiento del Todopoderoso!

Howl ye, for near the day of Jehovah, As destruction from the Mighty it cometh.

7 P or eso pierde su fuerza toda mano; por eso desfallece todo corazón.

Therefore, all hands do fail, And every heart of man doth melt.

8 S e llenan de terror; la angustia y el dolor los domina; tienen dolores como de parturienta; con el rostro encendido, unos a otros se miran con asombro.

And they have been troubled, Pains and pangs they take, As a travailing woman they are pained, A man at his friend they marvel, The appearance of flames -- their faces!

9 ¡ Viene ya el terrible día del Señor! ¡Día de ardiente ira e indignación, que hará de la tierra un páramo, y que raerá de ella a los pecadores!

Lo, the day of Jehovah doth come, Fierce, with wrath, and heat of anger, To make the land become a desolation, Yea, its sinning ones He destroyeth from it.

10 E se día las estrellas y los luceros de los cielos no darán su luz; el sol se oscurecerá al amanecer, y la luna no dará su resplandor.

For the stars of the heavens, and their constellations, Cause not their light to shine, Darkened hath been the sun in its going out, And the moon causeth not its light to come forth.

11 Y o castigaré al mundo por su maldad, y a los impíos por su iniquidad; acabaré con la arrogancia de los soberbios y abatiré la altivez de los fuertes.

And I have appointed on the world evil, And on the wicked their iniquity, And have caused to cease the excellency of the proud, And the excellency of the terrible I make low.

12 H aré que los hombres sean más escasos que el fino oro de Ofir.

I make man more rare than fine gold, And a common man than pure gold of Ophir.

13 P or la indignación del Señor de los ejércitos, en el día de su ardiente ira haré que se estremezcan los cielos, y que la tierra se mueva de su lugar.

Therefore the heavens I cause to tremble, And the earth doth shake from its place, In the wrath of Jehovah of Hosts, And in a day of the heat of his anger.

14 C ada uno mirará hacia su pueblo, como oveja sin pastor; cada uno huirá a su tierra, como gacela perseguida.

And it hath been, as a roe driven away, And as a flock that hath no gatherer, Each unto his people -- they turn, And each unto his land -- they flee.

15 T odo el que sea hallado, caerá atravesado por una lanza; todo el que caiga preso, morirá a filo de espada.

Every one who is found is thrust through, And every one who is added falleth by sword.

16 A nte sus propios ojos, sus niños serán estrellados contra el suelo, sus casas serán saqueadas, y sus mujeres serán violadas.

And their sucklings are dashed to pieces before their eyes, Spoiled are their houses, and their wives lain with.

17 V oy a incitar contra ellos a los medos, para quienes el oro y la plata no es lo más importante.

Lo, I am stirring up against them the Medes, Who silver esteem not, And gold -- they delight not in it.

18 C on sus flechas despedazarán a los niños, y de los hijos no tendrán compasión; ¡no perdonarán a nadie en quien pongan sus ojos!

And bows dash young men to pieces, And the fruit of the womb they pity not, On sons their eye hath no pity.

19 E l hermoso reino de Babilonia, joya de la grandeza caldea, vendrá a ser como Sodoma y Gomorra, ciudades a las que Dios destruyó.

And Babylon, the beauty of kingdoms, The glory, the excellency of the Chaldeans, Hath been as overthrown by God, With Sodom and with Gomorrah.

20 J amás volverá a ser habitado. Para siempre quedará deshabitado. Ningún nómada volverá a plantar allí su tienda, ni pastor alguno apacentará allí su rebaño.

She doth not sit for ever, Nor continueth unto many generations, Nor doth Arab pitch tent there, And shepherds lie not down there.

21 A llí dormirán sólo las fieras del desierto, y sus casas se llenarán de chacales; allí sólo vivirán los avestruces, y retozarán las cabras salvajes.

And Ziim have lain down there, And full have been their houses of howlings, And dwelt there have daughters of an ostrich, And goats do skip there.

22 E n sus palacios y en sus casas veraniegas aullarán las hienas y los chacales. Ya se acerca su tiempo; sus días están contados.

And Aiim have responded in his forsaken habitations, And dragons in palaces of delight, And near to come her time, And her days are not drawn out!
