1 A nd concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need of my writing to you,

Irmãos, quanto aos tempos e épocas, não precisamos escrever-lhes,

2 f or yourselves have known thoroughly that the day of the Lord as a thief in the night doth so come,

pois vocês mesmos sabem perfeitamente que o dia do Senhor virá como ladrão à noite.

3 f or when they may say, Peace and surety, then sudden destruction doth stand by them, as the travail her who is with child, and they shall not escape;

Quando disserem: “Paz e segurança”, a destruição virá sobre eles de repente, como as dores de parto à mulher grávida; e de modo nenhum escaparão.

4 a nd ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day may catch you as a thief;

Mas vocês, irmãos, não estão nas trevas, para que esse dia os surpreenda como ladrão.

5 a ll ye are sons of light, and sons of day; we are not of night, nor of darkness,

Vocês todos são filhos da luz, filhos do dia. Não somos da noite nem das trevas.

6 s o, then, we may not sleep as also the others, but watch and be sober,

Portanto, não durmamos como os demais, mas estejamos atentos e sejamos sóbrios;

7 f or those sleeping, by night do sleep, and those making themselves drunk, by night are drunken,

pois os que dormem, dormem de noite, e os que se embriagam, embriagam-se de noite.

8 a nd we, being of the day -- let us be sober, putting on a breastplate of faith and love, and an helmet -- a hope of salvation,

Nós, porém, que somos do dia, sejamos sóbrios, vestindo a couraça da fé e do amor e o capacete da esperança da salvação.

9 b ecause God did not appoint us to anger, but to the acquiring of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Porque Deus não nos destinou para a ira, mas para recebermos a salvação por meio de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.

10 w ho did die for us, that whether we wake -- whether we sleep -- together with him we may live;

Ele morreu por nós para que, quer estejamos acordados quer dormindo, vivamos unidos a ele.

11 w herefore, comfort ye one another, and build ye up, one the one, as also ye do.

Por isso, exortem-se e edifiquem-se uns aos outros, como de fato vocês estão fazendo. Instruções Finais

12 A nd we ask you, brethren, to know those labouring among you, and leading you in the Lord, and admonishing you,

Agora lhes pedimos, irmãos, que tenham consideração para com os que se esforçam no trabalho entre vocês, que os lideram no Senhor e os aconselham.

13 a nd to esteem them very abundantly in love, because of their work; be at peace among yourselves;

Tenham-nos na mais alta estima, com amor, por causa do trabalho deles. Vivam em paz uns com os outros.

14 a nd we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, comfort the feeble-minded, support the infirm, be patient unto all;

Exortamos vocês, irmãos, a que advirtam os ociosos, confortem os desanimados, auxiliem os fracos, sejam pacientes para com todos.

15 s ee no one evil for evil may render to any one, but always that which is good pursue ye, both to one another and to all;

Tenham cuidado para que ninguém retribua o mal com o mal, mas sejam sempre bondosos uns para com os outros e para com todos.

16 a lways rejoice ye;

Alegrem-se sempre.

17 c ontinually pray ye;

Orem continuamente.

18 i n every thing give thanks, for this the will of God in Christ Jesus in regard to you.

Dêem graças em todas as circunstâncias, pois esta é a vontade de Deus para vocês em Cristo Jesus.

19 T he Spirit quench not;

Não apaguem o Espírito.

20 p rophesyings despise not;

Não tratem com desprezo as profecias,

21 a ll things prove; that which is good hold fast;

mas ponham à prova todas as coisas e fiquem com o que é bom.

22 f rom all appearance of evil abstain ye;

Afastem-se de toda forma de mal.

23 a nd the God of the peace Himself sanctify you wholly, and may your whole spirit, and soul, and body, be preserved unblameably in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Que o próprio Deus da paz os santifique inteiramente. Que todo o espírito, a alma e o corpo de vocês sejam preservados irrepreensíveis na vinda de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.

24 s tedfast is He who is calling you, who also will do.

Aquele que os chama é fiel, e fará isso.

25 B rethren, pray for us;

Irmãos, orem por nós.

26 s alute all the brethren in an holy kiss;

Saúdem todos os irmãos com beijo santo.

27 I charge you the Lord, that the letter be read to all the holy brethren;

Diante do Senhor, encarrego vocês de lerem esta carta a todos os irmãos.

28 t he grace of our Lord Jesus Christ with you! Amen.
