1 A nd they came to the other side of the sea, to the region of the Gadarenes,

Eles atravessaram o mar e foram para a região dos gerasenos.

2 a nd he having come forth out of the boat, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

Quando Jesus desembarcou, um homem com um espírito imundo veio dos sepulcros ao seu encontro.

3 w ho had his dwelling in the tombs, and not even with chains was any one able to bind him,

Esse homem vivia nos sepulcros, e ninguém conseguia prendê-lo, nem mesmo com correntes;

4 b ecause that he many times with fetters and chains had been bound, and pulled in pieces by him had been the chains, and the fetters broken in pieces, and none was able to tame him,

pois muitas vezes lhe haviam sido acorrentados pés e mãos, mas ele arrebentara as correntes e quebrara os ferros de seus pés. Ninguém era suficientemente forte para dominá-lo.

5 a nd always, night and day, in the mountains, and in the tombs he was, crying and cutting himself with stones.

Noite e dia ele andava gritando e cortando-se com pedras entre os sepulcros e nas colinas.

6 A nd, having seen Jesus from afar, he ran and bowed before him,

Quando ele viu Jesus de longe, correu e prostrou-se diante dele,

7 a nd having called with a loud voice, he said, `What -- to me and to thee, Jesus, Son of God the Most High? I adjure thee by God, mayest thou not afflict me!'

e gritou em alta voz: “Que queres comigo, Jesus, Filho do Deus Altíssimo? Rogo-te por Deus que não me atormentes!”

8 ( for he said to him, `Come forth, spirit unclean, out of the man,')

Pois Jesus lhe tinha dito: “Saia deste homem, espírito imundo!”

9 a nd he was questioning him, `What thy name?' and he answered, saying, `Legion my name, because we are many;'

Então Jesus lhe perguntou: “Qual é o seu nome?” “Meu nome é Legião”, respondeu ele, “porque somos muitos.”

10 a nd he was calling on him much, that he may not send them out of the region.

E implorava a Jesus, com insistência, que não os mandasse sair daquela região.

11 A nd there was there, near the mountains, a great herd of swine feeding,

Uma grande manada de porcos estava pastando numa colina próxima.

12 a nd all the demons did call upon him, saying, `Send us to the swine, that into them we may enter;'

Os demônios imploraram a Jesus: “Manda-nos para os porcos, para que entremos neles”.

13 a nd immediately Jesus gave them leave, and having come forth, the unclean spirits did enter into the swine, and the herd did rush down the steep place to the sea -- and they were about two thousand -- and they were choked in the sea.

Ele lhes deu permissão, e os espíritos imundos saíram e entraram nos porcos. A manada de cerca de dois mil porcos atirou-se precipício abaixo, em direção ao mar, e nele se afogou.

14 A nd those feeding the swine did flee, and told in the city, and in the fields, and they came forth to see what it is that hath been done;

Os que cuidavam dos porcos fugiram e contaram esses fatos na cidade e nos campos, e o povo foi ver o que havia acontecido.

15 a nd they come unto Jesus, and see the demoniac, sitting, and clothed, and right-minded -- him having had the legion -- and they were afraid;

Quando se aproximaram de Jesus, viram ali o homem que fora possesso da legião de demônios, assentado, vestido e em perfeito juízo; e ficaram com medo.

16 a nd those having seen, declared to them how it had come to pass to the demoniac, and about the swine;

Os que estavam presentes contaram ao povo o que acontecera ao endemoninhado, e falaram também sobre os porcos.

17 a nd they began to call upon him to go away from their borders.

Então o povo começou a suplicar a Jesus que saísse do território deles.

18 A nd he having gone into the boat, the demoniac was calling on him that he may be with him,

Quando Jesus estava entrando no barco, o homem que estivera endemoninhado suplicava-lhe que o deixasse ir com ele.

19 a nd Jesus did not suffer him, but saith to him, `Go away to thy house, unto thine own, and tell them how great things the Lord did to thee, and dealt kindly with thee;

Jesus não o permitiu, mas disse: “Vá para casa, para a sua família e anuncie-lhes quanto o Senhor fez por você e como teve misericórdia de você”.

20 a nd he went away, and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how great things Jesus did to him, and all were wondering.

Então, aquele homem se foi e começou a anunciar em Decápolis o quanto Jesus tinha feito por ele. Todos ficavam admirados. O Poder de Jesus sobre a Doença e a Morte

21 A nd Jesus having passed over in the boat again to the other side, there was gathered a great multitude to him, and he was near the sea,

Tendo Jesus voltado de barco para a outra margem, uma grande multidão se reuniu ao seu redor, enquanto ele estava à beira do mar.

22 a nd lo, there doth come one of the chiefs of the synagogue, by name Jairus, and having seen him, he doth fall at his feet,

Então chegou ali um dos dirigentes da sinagoga, chamado Jairo. Vendo Jesus, prostrou-se aos seus pés

23 a nd he was calling upon him much, saying -- `My little daughter is at the last extremity -- that having come, thou mayest lay on her hands, so that she may be saved, and she shall live;'

e lhe implorou insistentemente: “Minha filhinha está morrendo! Vem, por favor, e impõe as mãos sobre ela, para que seja curada e que viva”.

24 a nd he went away with him. And there was following him a great multitude, and they were thronging him,

Jesus foi com ele. Uma grande multidão o seguia e o comprimia.

25 a nd a certain woman, having an issue of blood twelve years,

E estava ali certa mulher que havia doze anos vinha sofrendo de hemorragia.

26 a nd many things having suffered under many physicians, and having spent all that she had, and having profited nothing, but rather having come to the worse,

Ela padecera muito sob o cuidado de vários médicos e gastara tudo o que tinha, mas, em vez de melhorar, piorava.

27 h aving heard about Jesus, having come in the multitude behind, she touched his garment,

Quando ouviu falar de Jesus, chegou por trás dele, no meio da multidão, e tocou em seu manto,

28 f or she said -- `If even his garments I may touch, I shall be saved;'

porque pensava: “Se eu tão-somente tocar em seu manto, ficarei curada”.

29 a nd immediately was the fountain of her blood dried up, and she knew in the body that she hath been healed of the plague.

Imediatamente cessou sua hemorragia e ela sentiu em seu corpo que estava livre do seu sofrimento.

30 A nd immediately Jesus having known in himself that out of him power had gone forth, having turned about in the multitude, said, `Who did touch my garments?'

No mesmo instante, Jesus percebeu que dele havia saído poder, virou-se para a multidão e perguntou: “Quem tocou em meu manto?”

31 a nd his disciples said to him, `Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and thou sayest, `Who did touch me!'

Responderam os seus discípulos: “Vês a multidão aglomerada ao teu redor e ainda perguntas: ‘Quem tocou em mim?’”

32 A nd he was looking round to see her who did this,

Mas Jesus continuou olhando ao seu redor para ver quem tinha feito aquilo.

33 a nd the woman, having been afraid, and trembling, knowing what was done on her, came, and fell down before him, and told him all the truth,

Então a mulher, sabendo o que lhe tinha acontecido, aproximou-se, prostrou-se aos seus pés e, tremendo de medo, contou-lhe toda a verdade.

34 a nd he said to her, `Daughter, thy faith hath saved thee; go away in peace, and be whole from thy plague.'

Então ele lhe disse: “Filha, a sua fé a curou! Vá em paz e fique livre do seu sofrimento”.

35 A s he is yet speaking, there come from the chief of the synagogue's, saying -- `Thy daughter did die, why still dost thou harass the Teacher?'

Enquanto Jesus ainda estava falando, chegaram algumas pessoas da casa de Jairo, o dirigente da sinagoga. “Sua filha morreu”, disseram eles. “Não precisa mais incomodar o mestre!”

36 A nd Jesus immediately, having heard the word that is spoken, saith to the chief of the synagogue, `Be not afraid, only believe.'

Não fazendo caso do que eles disseram, Jesus disse ao dirigente da sinagoga: “Não tenha medo; tão-somente creia”.

37 A nd he did not suffer any one to follow with him, except Peter, and James, and John the brother of James;

E não deixou ninguém segui-lo, senão Pedro, Tiago e João, irmão de Tiago.

38 a nd he cometh to the house of the chief of the synagogue, and seeth a tumult, much weeping and wailing;

Quando chegaram à casa do dirigente da sinagoga, Jesus viu um alvoroço, com gente chorando e se lamentando em alta voz.

39 a nd having gone in he saith to them, `Why do ye make a tumult, and weep? the child did not die, but doth sleep;

Então entrou e lhes disse: “Por que todo este alvoroço e lamento? A criança não está morta, mas dorme”.

40 a nd they were laughing at him. And he, having put all forth, doth take the father of the child, and the mother, and those with him, and goeth in where the child is lying,

Mas todos começaram a rir de Jesus. Ele, porém, ordenou que eles saíssem, tomou consigo o pai e a mãe da criança e os discípulos que estavam com ele, e entrou onde se encontrava a criança.

41 a nd, having taken the hand of the child, he saith to her, `Talitha cumi;' which is, being interpreted, `Damsel (I say to thee), arise.'

Tomou-a pela mão e lhe disse: “Talita cumi!”, que significa “menina, eu lhe ordeno, levante-se!”.

42 A nd immediately the damsel arose, and was walking, for she was twelve years; and they were amazed with a great amazement,

Imediatamente a menina, que tinha doze anos de idade, levantou-se e começou a andar. Isso os deixou atônitos.

43 a nd he charged them much, that no one may know this thing, and he said that there be given to her to eat.

Ele deu ordens expressas para que não dissessem nada a ninguém e mandou que dessem a ela alguma coisa para comer.
