1 A nd the sons of Israel commit a trespass in the devoted thing, and Achan, son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, taketh of the devoted thing, and the anger of Jehovah burneth against the sons of Israel.

Mas os israelitas foram infiéis com relação às coisas consagradas. Acã, filho de Carmi, filho de Zinri, filho de Zerá, da tribo de Judá, apossou-se de algumas delas. E a ira do Senhor acendeu-se contra Israel.

2 A nd Joshua sendeth men from Jericho to Ai, which near Beth-Aven, on the east of Bethel, and speaketh unto them, saying, `Go up and spy the land;' and the men go up and spy Ai,

Sucedeu que Josué enviou homens de Jericó a Ai, que fica perto de Bete-Áven, a leste de Betel, e ordenou-lhes: “Subam e espionem a região”. Os homens subiram e espionaram Ai.

3 a nd they turn back unto Joshua, and say unto him, `Let not all the people go up; let about two thousand men, or about three thousand men, go up, and they smite Ai; cause not all the people to labour thither; for they few.'

Quando voltaram a Josué, disseram: “Não é preciso que todos avancem contra Ai. Envie uns dois ou três mil homens para atacá-la. Não canse todo o exército, pois eles são poucos”.

4 A nd there go up of the people thither about three thousand men, and they flee before the men of Ai,

Por isso cerca de três mil homens atacaram a cidade; mas os homens de Ai os puseram em fuga,

5 a nd the men of Ai smite of them about thirty and six men, and pursue them before the gate unto Shebarim, and they smite them in Morad; and the heart of the people is melted, and becometh water.

chegando a matar trinta e seis deles. Eles perseguiram os israelitas desde a porta da cidade até Sebarim, e os feriram na descida. Diante disso o povo desanimou-se completamente.

6 A nd Joshua rendeth his garments, and falleth on his face to the earth before the ark of Jehovah till the evening, he and the elders of Israel, and they cause dust to go up on their head.

Então Josué, com as autoridades de Israel, rasgou as vestes, prostrou-se, rosto em terra, diante da arca do Senhor, cobrindo de terra a cabeça, e ali permaneceu até a tarde.

7 A nd Joshua saith, `Ah, Lord Jehovah, why hast Thou at all caused this people to pass over the Jordan, to give us into the hand of the Amorite to destroy us? -- and oh that we had been willing -- and we dwell beyond the Jordan!

Disse então Josué: “Ah, Soberano Senhor, por que fizeste este povo atravessar o Jordão? Foi para nos entregar nas mãos dos amorreus e nos destruir? Antes nos contentássemos em continuar no outro lado do Jordão!

8 O h, Lord, what do I say, after that Israel hath turned the neck before its enemies?

Que poderei dizer, Senhor, agora que Israel foi derrotado por seus inimigos?

9 a nd the Canaanite and all the inhabitants of the land do hear, and have come round against us, and cut off our name out of the earth; and what dost Thou do for Thy great name?'

Os cananeus e os demais habitantes desta terra saberão disso, nos cercarão e eliminarão o nosso nome da terra. Que farás, então, pelo teu grande nome?”

10 A nd Jehovah saith unto Joshua, `Rise for thee, why this? -- thou falling on thy face?

O Senhor disse a Josué: “Levante-se! Por que você está aí prostrado?

11 I srael hath sinned, and also they have transgressed My covenant which I commanded them, and also taken of the devoted thing, and also stolen, and also deceived, and also put among their vessels,

Israel pecou. Violou a aliança que eu lhe ordenei. Apossou-se de coisas consagradas, roubou-as, escondeu-as e as colocou junto de seus bens.

12 a nd the sons of Israel have not been able to stand before their enemies; the neck they turn before their enemies, for they have become a devoted thing; I add not to be with you -- if ye destroy not the devoted thing out of your midst.

Por isso os israelitas não conseguem resistir aos inimigos; fogem deles porque se tornaram merecedores da sua destruição. Não estarei mais com vocês, se não destruírem do meio de vocês o que foi consagrado à destruição.

13 ` Rise, sanctify the people, and thou hast said, Sanctify yourselves for to-morrow; for thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, A devoted thing in thy midst, O Israel, thou art not able to stand before thine enemies till your turning aside of the devoted thing out of your midst;

“Vá, santifique o povo! Diga-lhes: Santifiquem-se para amanhã, pois assim diz o Senhor, o Deus de Israel: Há coisas consagradas à destruição no meio de vocês, ó Israel. Vocês não conseguirão resistir aos seus inimigos enquanto não as retirarem.

14 a nd ye have been brought near in the morning by your tribes, and it hath been, the tribe which Jehovah doth capture doth draw near by families, and the family which Jehovah doth capture doth draw near by households, and the household which Jehovah doth capture doth draw near by men;

“Apresentem-se de manhã, uma tribo de cada vez. A tribo que o Senhor escolher virá à frente, um clã de cada vez; o clã que o Senhor escolher virá à frente, uma família de cada vez; e a família que o Senhor escolher virá à frente, um homem de cada vez.

15 a nd it hath been, he who is captured with the devoted thing is burnt with fire, he and all that he hath, because he hath transgressed the covenant of Jehovah, and because he hath done folly in Israel.'

Aquele que for pego com as coisas consagradas será queimado no fogo com tudo o que lhe pertence. Violou a aliança do Senhor e cometeu loucura em Israel!”

16 A nd Joshua riseth early in the morning, and bringeth Israel near by its tribes, and the tribe of Judah is captured;

Na manhã seguinte Josué mandou os israelitas virem à frente segundo as suas tribos, e a de Judá foi a escolhida.

17 a nd he bringeth near the family of Judah, and he captureth the family of the Zarhite; and he bringeth near the family of the Zarhite by men, and Zabdi is captured;

Os clãs de Judá vieram à frente, e ele escolheu os zeraítas. Fez o clã dos zeraítas vir à frente, família por família, e o escolhido foi Zinri.

18 a nd he bringeth near his household by men, and Achan -- son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah -- is captured.

Josué fez a família de Zinri vir à frente, homem por homem, e Acã, filho de Carmi, filho de Zinri, filho de Zerá, da tribo de Judá, foi o escolhido.

19 A nd Joshua saith unto Achan, `My son, put, I pray thee, honour on Jehovah, God of Israel, and give to Him thanks, and declare, I pray thee, to me, what thou hast done -- hide not from me.'

Então Josué disse a Acã: “Meu filho, para a glória do Senhor, o Deus de Israel, diga a verdade. Conte-me o que você fez; não me esconda nada”.

20 A nd Achan answereth Joshua, and saith, `Truly I have sinned against Jehovah, God of Israel, and thus and thus I have done;

Acã respondeu: “É verdade que pequei contra o Senhor, o Deus de Israel. O que fiz foi o seguinte:

21 a nd I see among the spoil a goodly robe of Shinar, and two hundred shekels of silver, and one wedge of gold, whose weight fifty shekels, and I desire them, and take them; and lo, they hid in the earth, in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.'

quando vi entre os despojos uma bela capa feita na Babilônia, dois quilos e quatrocentos gramas de prata e uma barra de ouro de seiscentos gramas, eu os cobicei e me apossei deles. Estão escondidos no chão da minha tenda, com a prata por baixo”.

22 A nd Joshua sendeth messengers, and they run unto the tent, and lo, it is hidden in his tent, and the silver under it;

Josué enviou alguns homens que correram à tenda de Acã; lá estavam escondidas as coisas, com a prata por baixo.

23 a nd they take them out of the midst of the tent, and bring them in unto Joshua, and unto all the sons of Israel, and pour them out before Jehovah.

Retiraram-nas da tenda e as levaram a Josué e a todos os israelitas, e as puseram perante o Senhor.

24 A nd Joshua taketh Achan son of Zerah, and the silver, and the robe, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his ox, and his ass, and his flock, and his tent, and all that he hath, and all Israel with him, and they cause them to go up the valley of Achor.

Então Josué, junto com todo o Israel, levou Acã, bisneto de Zerá, e a prata, a capa, a barra de ouro, seus filhos e filhas, seus bois, seus jumentos, suas ovelhas, sua tenda e tudo o que lhe pertencia, ao vale de Acor.

25 A nd Joshua saith, `What! thou hast troubled us! -- Jehovah doth trouble thee this day;' and all Israel cast stones at him, and they burn them with fire, and they stone them with stones,

Disse Josué: “Por que você nos causou esta desgraça? Hoje o Senhor lhe causará desgraça ”. E todo o Israel o apedrejou, e depois apedrejou também os seus, e queimou tudo e todos eles no fogo.

26 a nd they raise up over him a great heap of stones unto this day, and Jehovah turneth back from the heat of His anger, therefore hath called the name of that place `Valley of Achor' till this day.

Sobre Acã ergueram um grande monte de pedras, que existe até hoje. Então o Senhor se afastou do fogo da sua ira. Por isso foi dado àquele lugar o nome de vale de Acor, nome que permanece até hoje.
