1 A nd the Philistines gather all their camps to Aphek, and the Israelites are encamping at a fountain which in Jezreel,

Os filisteus reuniram todas as suas tropas em Afeque, e Israel acampou junto à fonte de Jezreel.

2 a nd the princes of the Philistines are passing on by hundreds, and by thousands, and David and his men are passing on in the rear with Achish.

Enquanto os governantes filisteus avançavam com seus grupos de cem e de mil, Davi e seus homens iam na retaguarda com Aquis.

3 A nd the heads of the Philistines say, `What these Hebrews?' and Achish saith unto the heads of the Philistines, `Is not this David servant of Saul king of Israel, who hath been with me these days or these years, and I have not found in him anything from the day of his falling away till this day.'

Os comandantes dos filisteus perguntaram: “O que estes hebreus fazem aqui?” Aquis respondeu: “Este é Davi, que era oficial de Saul, rei de Israel. Ele já está comigo há mais de um ano e, desde o dia em que deixou Saul, nada fez que mereça desconfiança”.

4 A nd the heads of the Philistines are wroth against him, and the heads of the Philistines say to him, `Send back the man, and he doth turn back unto his place whither thou hast appointed him, and doth not go down with us into battle, and is not to us for an adversary in battle; and wherewith doth this one reconcile himself unto his lord -- is it not with the heads of those men?'

Contudo, os comandantes filisteus se iraram contra ele e disseram: “Mande embora este homem para a cidade que você lhe designou. Ele não deve ir para a guerra conosco, senão se tornará nosso adversário durante o combate. Qual seria a melhor maneira de recuperar a boa vontade de seu senhor, senão à custa da cabeça de nossos homens?

5 I s not this David, of whom they answer in choruses, saying, Saul hath smitten among his thousands, and David among his myriads?'

Não é ele o Davi de quem cantavam em suas danças: ‘Saul abateu seus milhares, e Davi, suas dezenas de milhares’?”

6 A nd Achish calleth unto David, and saith unto him, `Jehovah liveth, surely thou upright, and good in mine eyes is thy going out, and thy coming in, with me in the camp, for I have not found in thee evil from the day of thy coming in unto me till this day; and in the eyes of the princes thou art not good;

Então Aquis chamou Davi e lhe disse: “Juro, pelo nome do Senhor, que você tem sido leal, e ficaria contente em tê-lo servindo comigo no exército. Desde o dia em que você veio a mim, nunca desconfiei de você, mas os governantes não o aprovam.

7 a nd now, turn back, and go in peace, and thou dost do no evil in the eyes of the princes of the Philistines.'

Agora, volte e vá em paz! Não faça nada que desagrade os governantes filisteus”.

8 A nd David saith unto Achish, `But what have I done? and what hast thou found in thy servant from the day that I have been before thee till this day -- that I go not in and have fought against the enemies of my lord the king?'

Davi perguntou: “O que foi que eu fiz? O que descobriste contra teu servo, desde o dia em que cheguei? Por que não posso ir lutar contra os inimigos do rei, meu senhor?”

9 A nd Achish answereth and saith unto David, `I have known that thou good in mine eyes as a messenger of God; only, the princes of the Philistines have said, He doth not go up with us into battle;

Aquis respondeu: “Reconheço que você tem feito o que eu aprovo, como um anjo de Deus. Os comandantes filisteus, no entanto, dizem que você não deve ir à batalha conosco.

10 a nd now, rise thou early in the morning, and the servants of thy lord who have come with thee, when ye have risen early in the morning, and have light, then go ye.'

Agora, levante-se bem cedo, junto com os servos de seu senhor que vieram com você, e partam de manhã, assim que clarear o dia”.

11 A nd David riseth early, he and his men, to go in the morning, to turn back unto the land of the Philistines, and the Philistines have gone up to Jezreel.

Então Davi e seus soldados levantaram-se de madrugada para voltar à terra dos filisteus. E os filisteus foram para Jezreel.
