1 A nd the Philistines gather all their camps to Aphek, and the Israelites are encamping at a fountain which in Jezreel,

I Filistei radunarono tutte le loro truppe ad Afek, mentre gli Israeliti Si accamparono presso la sorgente di Jezreel.

2 a nd the princes of the Philistines are passing on by hundreds, and by thousands, and David and his men are passing on in the rear with Achish.

I principi dei Filistei procedevano con le loro centinaia e le migliaia, mentre Davide e i suoi uomini procedevano per ultimi con Akish.

3 A nd the heads of the Philistines say, `What these Hebrews?' and Achish saith unto the heads of the Philistines, `Is not this David servant of Saul king of Israel, who hath been with me these days or these years, and I have not found in him anything from the day of his falling away till this day.'

Allora i capi dei Filistei dissero: «Cosa fanno questi Ebrei?». Akish rispose ai capi dei Filistei: «Non è costui Davide, servo di Saul re d'Israele, che è stato con me questi giorni o questi anni? In lui non ho trovato alcun fallo dal giorno della sua defezione a oggi!».

4 A nd the heads of the Philistines are wroth against him, and the heads of the Philistines say to him, `Send back the man, and he doth turn back unto his place whither thou hast appointed him, and doth not go down with us into battle, and is not to us for an adversary in battle; and wherewith doth this one reconcile himself unto his lord -- is it not with the heads of those men?'

Ma i capi dei Filistei si adirarono contro di lui e gli dissero: «Rimanda costui, perché ritorni al luogo che gli hai assegnato. Non venga con noi a combattere, perché non diventi nostro nemico in battaglia. Come potrebbe riacquistare costui il favore del suo signore, se non con la testa di questi uomini?

5 I s not this David, of whom they answer in choruses, saying, Saul hath smitten among his thousands, and David among his myriads?'

Non è costui Davide di cui cantavano in coro nelle danze, dicendo: "Saul ha ucciso i suoi mille e Davide i suoi diecimila"?».

6 A nd Achish calleth unto David, and saith unto him, `Jehovah liveth, surely thou upright, and good in mine eyes is thy going out, and thy coming in, with me in the camp, for I have not found in thee evil from the day of thy coming in unto me till this day; and in the eyes of the princes thou art not good;

Allora Akish chiamò Davide e gli disse: «Com'è vero che l'Eterno vive, tu sei un uomo retto e vedo con piacere il tuo andare e venire con me nell'esercito, perché non ho trovato in te niente di male dal giorno del tuo arrivo da me fino ad oggi; ma tu non sei gradito agli occhi dei principi.

7 a nd now, turn back, and go in peace, and thou dost do no evil in the eyes of the princes of the Philistines.'

Or dunque torna indietro e va' in pace, per non far nulla che dispiaccia ai principi dei Filistei».

8 A nd David saith unto Achish, `But what have I done? and what hast thou found in thy servant from the day that I have been before thee till this day -- that I go not in and have fought against the enemies of my lord the king?'

Davide disse ad Akish: «Che cosa ho fatto e che cosa hai trovato nel tuo servo dal giorno in cui sono venuto con te fino al giorno d'oggi, perché io non possa andare a combattere contro i nemici del re, mio signore?».

9 A nd Achish answereth and saith unto David, `I have known that thou good in mine eyes as a messenger of God; only, the princes of the Philistines have said, He doth not go up with us into battle;

Akish rispose a Davide dicendo: «Comprendo che tu sei gradito ai miei occhi come un angelo di DIO; ma i principi dei Filistei hanno detto: "Egli non deve salire con noi alla battaglia!".

10 a nd now, rise thou early in the morning, and the servants of thy lord who have come with thee, when ye have risen early in the morning, and have light, then go ye.'

Perciò, alzati domani mattina presto con i servi del tuo signore che sono venuti con te; alzatevi al mattino presto e, allo spuntar del giorno, partite».

11 A nd David riseth early, he and his men, to go in the morning, to turn back unto the land of the Philistines, and the Philistines have gone up to Jezreel.

Così Davide e i suoi uomini si alzarono al mattino presto, per partire e tornare nel paese dei Filistei. I Filistei invece salirono a Jezreel.
