1 A nd there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying,

2 ` Son of man, cause Jerusalem to know her abominations, and thou hast said:

3 T hus said the Lord Jehovah to Jerusalem: Thy birth and thy nativity of the land of the Canaanite, Thy father the Amorite, and thy mother a Hittite.

e di': «Cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno a Gerusalemme: La tua origine e la tua nascita sono dal paese di Canaan; tuo padre era un Amorreo e tua madre una Hittea.

4 A s to thy nativity, in the day thou wast born, Thou -- thy navel hath not been cut, And in water thou wast not washed for ease, And thou hast not been salted at all, And thou hast not been swaddled at all.

Alla tua nascita, il giorno in cui fosti partorita, non ti fu tagliato l'ombelico, non fosti lavata con acqua per pulirti, non fosti sfregata con sale né fosti avvolta in fasce.

5 N o eye hath had pity on thee, to do to thee any of these, To have compassion on thee, And thou art cast on the face of the field, With loathing of thy person. In the day thou hast been born -- thou!

Nessun occhio ebbe alcun riguardo di te per farti una sola di queste cose, avendo compassione di te; il giorno in cui nascesti tu fosti invece gettata in aperta campagna, per la ripugnanza che avevano nei tuoi confronti.

6 A nd I do pass over by thee, And I see thee trodden down in thy blood, And I say to thee in thy blood, Live, And I say to thee in thy blood, Live.

Io ti passai vicino, vidi che ti dibattevi nel sangue e ti dissi mentre eri nel tuo sangue: "Vivi!" Sí, ti dissi mentre eri nel tuo sangue: "Vivi!".

7 A myriad -- as the shoot of the field I have made thee, And thou art multiplied, and art great, And comest in with an excellent adornment, Breasts have been formed, and thy hair hath grown -- And thou, naked and bare!

Ti feci crescere a miriadi come i germogli dei campi; e tu crescesti, ti facesti grande e diventasti molto bella. Il tuo seno si formò la tua capigliatura crebbe abbondante ma tu eri nuda e nel bisogno.

8 A nd I pass over by thee, and I see thee, And lo, thy time a time of loves, And I spread My skirt over thee, And I cover thy nakedness, And I swear to thee, and come in to a covenant with thee, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah, And thou dost become Mine.

Io ti passai vicino e ti guardai, ed ecco, il tuo tempo era il tempo dell'amore. Cosí stesi il lembo della mia veste su di te e copersi la tua nudità, ti feci un giuramento, stabilii un patto con te e tu divenisti mia», dice il Signore, l'Eterno.

9 A nd I do wash thee with water, And I wash away thy blood from off thee, And I anoint thee with perfume.

«Ti lavai con acqua, ti ripulii interamente del sangue e ti unsi con olio.

10 A nd I clothe thee with embroidery, And I shoe thee with badger's skin, And I gird thee with fine linen, And I cover thee with figured silk.

Ti feci quindi indossare vesti ricamate, ti misi calzari di pelle di tasso, ti cinsi il capo di lino fino e ti ricopersi di seta.

11 A nd I adorn thee with adornments, And I give bracelets for thy hands, And a chain for thy neck.

Ti abbellii di ornamenti ti misi i braccialetti ai polsi e una collana al collo.

12 A nd I give a ring for thy nose, And rings for thine ears, And a crown of beauty on thy head.

Ti misi un anello al naso, orecchini agli orecchi e una splendida corona sul capo

13 A nd thou dost put on gold and silver, And thy clothing fine linen, And figured silk and embroidery, Fine flour, and honey, and oil thou hast eaten, And thou art very very beautiful, And dost go prosperously to the kingdom.

Cosí fosti adorna d'oro e d'argento e fosti rivestita di lino fino di seta e di ricami. Tu mangiasti fior di farina, miele e olio; diventasti molto, molto bella e giungesti fino a regnare.

14 A nd go forth doth thy name among nations, Because of thy beauty -- for it complete, In My honour that I have set upon thee, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah.

La tua fama si diffuse tra le nazioni per la tua bellezza, che era perfetta, a motivo del mio splendore che avevo riposto su di te», dice il Signore, l'Eterno.

15 A nd thou dost trust in thy beauty, And goest a-whoring because of thy renown, And dost pour out thy whoredoms On every passer by -- to him it is.

Ma tu ponesti la fiducia nella tua bellezza e ti prostituisti a motivo della tua fama e prodigasti le tue prostituzioni a ogni passante, che era consenziente.

16 A nd thou dost take of thy garments, And dost make to thee spotted high-places, And dost go a-whoring upon them, They are not coming in -- nor shall it be!

Tu prendesti alcune delle tue vesti, ti facesti degli alti luoghi di vari colori e su di essi ti prostituisti, cose che non avrebbero dovuto accadere e neppure esserci.

17 A nd thou dost take thy beauteous vessels Of My gold and My silver that I gave to thee, And dost make to thee images of a male, And dost go a-whoring with them,

Prendesti pure i tuoi bei gioielli fatti del mio oro e del mio argento, che io ti avevo dato, te ne facesti delle immagini d'uomo e ad esse ti prostituisti;

18 A nd dost take the garments of thy embroidery, And thou dost cover them, And My oil and My perfume thou hast set before them.

poi prendesti le tue vesti ricamate, le ricopristi e offristi davanti ad esse il mio olio e il mio incenso.

19 A nd My bread, that I gave to thee, Fine flour, and oil, and honey, that I caused thee to eat. Thou hast even set it before them, For a sweet fragrance -- thus it is, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah.

Anche il mio pane che ti avevo dato, il fior di farina, l'olio e il miele di cui ti nutrivo, li ponesti davanti ad esse come un profumo di soave odore; cosí è avvenuto», dice il Signore, l'Eterno.

20 A nd thou dost take thy sons and thy daughters Whom thou hast born to Me, And dost sacrifice them to them for food. Is it a little thing because of thy whoredoms,

«Inoltre prendesti i tuoi figli e le tue figlie che mi avevi partorito e li sacrificasti loro per essere divorati. Erano forse poca cosa le tue prostituzioni,

21 T hat thou dost slaughter My sons, And dost give them up in causing them to pass over to them?

che tu dovesti scannare i miei figli e offrirli loro facendoli passare per il fuoco?

22 A nd with all thine abominations and thy whoredoms, Thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, When thou wast naked and bare, Trodden down in thy blood thou wast!

Con tutte le tue abominazioni e le tue prostituzioni non ti sei ricordata dei giorni della tua giovinezza, quando eri nuda e nel bisogno e ti dibattevi nel sangue.

23 A nd it cometh to pass, after all thy wickedness, (Wo, wo, to thee -- an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah),

Ora dopo tutta la tua malvagità, Guai, guai a te!», dice il Signore, l'Eterno;

24 T hat thou dost build to thee an arch, And dost make to thee a high place in every broad place.

«in ogni piazza ti sei costruita una nicchia e ti sei fatta un alto luogo;

25 A t every head of the way thou hast built thy high place, And thou dost make thy beauty abominable, And dost open wide thy feet to every passer by, And dost multiply thy whoredoms,

all'inizio di ogni strada hai costruito un alto luogo, hai reso abominevole la tua bellezza, e hai allargato le tue gambe ad ogni passante, moltiplicando le tue prostituzioni.

26 A nd dost go a-whoring unto sons of Egypt, Thy neighbours -- great of appetite! And thou dost multiply thy whoredoms, To provoke Me to anger.

Ti sei pure prostituita agli Egiziani, tuoi corpulenti vicini, e hai moltiplicato le tue prostituzioni per provocarmi ad ira.

27 A nd lo, I have stretched out My hand against thee, And I diminish thy portion, And give thee to the desire of those hating thee, The daughters of the Philistines, Who are ashamed of thy wicked way.

Perciò, ecco, io ho steso la mia mano contro di te, ho diminuito la tua porzione assegnata e ti ho dato in balìa di quelli che ti odiano, le figlie dei Filistei, che hanno vergogna della tua condotta scellerata.

28 A nd thou goest a-whoring unto sons of Asshur, Without thy being satisfied, And thou dost go a-whoring with them, And also -- thou hast not been satisfied.

Non ancora soddisfatta, ti sei prostituita agli Assiri; sí, ti sei prostituita a loro, senza però essere soddisfatta.

29 A nd thou dost multiply thy whoredoms On the land of Canaan -- toward Chaldea, And even with this thou hast not been satisfied.

Cosí hai moltiplicato le tue prostituzioni col paese di Canaan fino in Caldea, ma neppure con questo sei stata soddisfatta.

30 H ow weak thy heart, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah, In thy doing all these, The work of a domineering whorish woman.

Com'è depravato il tuo cuore», dice il Signore, l'Eterno, «nel fare tutte queste cose da sfacciata prostituta!

31 I n thy building thine arch at the head of every way, Thy high place thou hast made in every broad place, And -- hast not been as a whore deriding a gift.

Ti costruivi la nicchia all'inizio di ogni strada e ti facevi gli alti luoghi in ogni piazza, però non eri come una prostituta, perché disprezzavi la paga,

32 T he wife who committeth adultery -- Under her husband -- doth receive strangers.

ma come una donna adultera, che invece di suo marito accoglie gli stranieri.

33 T o all whores they give a gift, And -- thou hast given thy gifts to all thy lovers, And dost bribe them to come in unto thee, From round about -- in thy whoredoms.

A tutte le prostitute si fanno regali, ma tu hai fatto regali a tutti i tuoi amanti e con doni li hai indotti a venire a te da ogni parte per le tue prostituzioni.

34 A nd the contrary is in thee from women in thy whoredoms, That after thee none doth go a-whoring; And in thy giving a gift, And a gift hath not been given to thee; And thou art become contrary.

Nelle tue prostituzioni ti sei comportata al contrario delle altre donne: nessuno ti correva dietro per prostituirsi in quanto tu davi la paga invece di ricevere la paga, cosí ti sei comportata al contrario delle altre».

35 T herefore, O whore, hear a word of Jehovah,

Perciò, o prostituta ascolta la parola dell'Eterno.

36 T hus said the Lord Jehovah: Because of thy brass being poured forth, And thy nakedness is revealed in thy whoredoms near thy lovers, And near all the idols of thy abominations, And according to the blood of thy sons, Whom thou hast given to them;

Cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: «Poiché il tuo denaro è stato sperperato e la tua nudità scoperta nelle tue prostituzioni con i tuoi amanti e con tutti i tuoi idoli abominevoli e a motivo del sangue dei tuoi figli che hai loro offerto,

37 T herefore, lo, I am assembling all thy lovers, To whom thou hast been sweet, And all whom thou hast loved, Besides all whom thou hast hated; And I have assembled them by thee round about, And have revealed thy nakedness to them, And they have seen all thy nakedness.

ecco, io radunerò tutti i tuoi amanti con i quali hai provato piacere, tutti quelli che hai amato insieme a quelli che hai odiato; li radunerò da ogni parte contro di te e scoprirò davanti a loro la tua nudità, perché essi vedano tutta la tua nudità.

38 A nd I have judged thee -- judgments of adultresses, And of women shedding blood, And have given thee blood, fury, and jealousy.

Ti giudicherò come si giudicano le adultere e quelle che spandono sangue e farò venire su di te il sangue del furore e della gelosia.

39 A nd I have given thee into their hand, And they have thrown down thine arch, And they have broken down thy high places, And they have stript thee of thy garments, And they have taken thy beauteous vessels, And they have left thee naked and bare.

Ti darò quindi nelle loro mani ed essi abbatteranno la tua nicchia e demoliranno i tuoi alti luoghi, ti spoglieranno inoltre delle tue vesti, porteranno via i tuoi splendidi gioielli e ti lasceranno nuda e nel bisogno.

40 A nd have caused an assembly to come up against thee, And stoned thee with stones, And thrust thee through with their swords,

Poi faranno salire contro di te una moltitudine e ti lapideranno con pietre e ti trafiggeranno con le loro spade.

41 A nd burnt thy houses with fire, And done in thee judgments before the eyes of many women, And I have caused thee to cease from going a-whoring, And also a gift thou givest no more.

Daranno alle fiamme le tue case ed eseguiranno giudizi su di te sotto gli occhi di molte donne; ti farò smettere dal prostituirti e non darai piú alcuna paga.

42 A nd I have caused My fury against thee to rest, And My jealousy hath turned aside from thee, And I have been quiet, and I am not angry any more.

Cosí placherò il mio furore su di te e la mia gelosia si allontanerà da te; mi acqueterò e non mi adirerò piú.

43 B ecause thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, And dost give trouble to Me in all these, Lo, even I also thy way at first gave up, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah, And I did not this thought for all thine abominations.

Poiché tu non ti sei ricordata dei giorni della tua giovinezza e mi hai fatto infuriare con tutte queste cose, ecco, anch'io ti farò ricadere sul capo, le tue azioni», dice il Signore, l'Eterno, «cosí non commetterai altre scelleratezze oltre tutte le tue abominazioni.

44 L o, every one using a simile, Doth use a simile concerning thee, saying: As the mother -- her daughter!

45 T hy mother's daughter thou, Loathing her husband and her sons, And thy sisters' sister thou, Who loathed their husbands and their sons, Your mother a Hittite, and your father an Amorite.

Tu sei veramente figlia di tua madre che ha rigettato il proprio marito e i propri figli, e sei sorella delle tue sorelle che hanno rigettato i loro mariti e i loro figli. Vostra madre era una Hittea e vostro padre un Amorreo.

46 A nd thine elder sister Samaria, she and her daughters, Who is dwelling at thy left hand, And thy younger sister, who is dwelling on thy right hand, Sodom and her daughters.

Tua sorella maggiore è Samaria, che con le sue figlie abita alla tua sinistra; tua sorella minore è Sodoma, che con le sue figlie abita alla tua destra.

47 A nd -- in their ways thou hast not walked, And according to their abominations done, As a little thing it hath been loathed, And thou dost more corruptly than they in all thy ways.

Tu non soltanto hai camminato nelle loro vie e commesso le loro abominazioni ma, come se questo fosse troppo poco, in tutte le tue vie ti sei corrotta piú di loro.

48 I live -- an affirmation of the Lord Jehovah, Sodom thy sister hath not done -- she and her daughters -- As thou hast done -- thou and thy daughters.

Com'è vero che io vivo», dice il Signore, l'Eterno, «tua sorella Sodoma e le sue figlie non hanno fatto ciò che hai fatto tu con le tue figlie.

49 L o, this hath been the iniquity of Sodom thy sister, Arrogancy, fulness of bread, and quiet ease, Have been to her and to her daughters, And the hand of the afflicted and needy She hath not strengthened.

Ecco, questa fu l'iniquità di tua sorella Sodoma: lei e le sue figlie vivevano nell'orgoglio, nell'abbondanza del pane e in una grande indolenza, ma non sostenevano la mano dell'afflitto e del povero.

50 A nd they are haughty and do abomination before Me, And I turn them aside when I have seen.

51 A s to Samaria, as the half of thy sins -- she hath not sinned, And thou dost multiply thine abominations more than they, And dost justify thy sisters by all thy abominations that thou hast done.

Samaria non ha neppure commesso la metà dei tuoi peccati; tu hai moltiplicato le tue abominazioni piú di loro e hai giustificato le tue sorelle con tutte le abominazioni che hai commesso.

52 T hou also -- bear thy shame, That thou hast adjudged to thy sisters, Because of thy sins that thou hast done more abominably than they, They are more righteous than thou, And thou, also, be ashamed and bear thy shame, In thy justifying thy sisters.

Tu, che hai giudicato le tue sorelle, porta il tuo vituperio, perché con i peccati che hai commesso ti sei resa piú abominevole di loro; esse sono piú giuste di te. Su vergognati e porta il tuo vituperio, perché hai giustificato le tue sorelle.

53 A nd I have turned back their captivity, The captivity of Sodom and her daughters, And the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, And the captivity of thy captives in their midst,

Quando farò ritornare i loro prigionieri, i prigionieri di Sodoma e le sue figlie, i prigionieri di Samaria e le sue figlie, allora farò ritornare anche i prigionieri della tua cattività che sono in mezzo a loro,

54 S o that thou dost bear thy shame, And hast been ashamed of all that thou hast done, In thy comforting them.

affinché porti il tuo vituperio e ti vergogni di tutto ciò che hai fatto, quando le hai confortate.

55 A nd thy sisters, Sodom and her daughters, Do turn back to their former state, And Samaria and her daughters Do turn back to their former state, And thou and thy daughters do turn back to your former state.

Quando le tue sorelle, Sodoma e le sue figlie, ritorneranno nella loro condizione di prima e Samaria e le sue figlie ritorneranno nella loro condizione di prima, anche tu e le tue figlie ritornerete nella vostra condizione di prima.

56 A nd thy sister Sodom hath not been for a report in thy mouth, In the day of thine arrogancy,

Tua sorella Sodoma non era neppure menzionata dalla tua bocca nei giorni del tuo orgoglio,

57 B efore thy wickedness is revealed, As the time of the reproach of the daughters of Aram, And of all her neighbours, the daughters of the Philistines, Who are despising thee round about.

58 T hy devices and thine abominations, Thou hast borne them, an affirmation of Jehovah.

59 F or thus said the Lord Jehovah: I have dealt with thee as thou hast done, In that thou hast despised an oath -- to break covenant.

Poiché cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: «Io farò a te come hai fatto tu, che hai disprezzato il giuramento rompendo il patto».

60 A nd I -- I have remembered My covenant with thee, In the days of thy youth, And I have established for thee a covenant age-during.

61 A nd thou hast remembered thy ways, And thou hast been ashamed, In thy receiving thy sisters -- Thine elder with thy younger, And I have given them to thee for daughters, And not by thy covenant.

Allora ti ricorderai della tua condotta e ti vergognerai, quando riceverai le tue sorelle, quelle che sono piú grandi e quelle che sono piú piccole di te; e io le darò a te per figlie, ma non in virtú del tuo patto.

62 A nd I -- I have established My covenant with thee, And thou hast known that I Jehovah.

63 S o that thou dost remember, And thou hast been ashamed, And there is not to thee any more an opening of the mouth because of thy shame, In My receiving atonement for thee, For all that thou hast done, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah!'
