1 I t hath been good before Darius, and he hath established over the kingdom satraps -- a hundred and twenty -- that they may be throughout the whole kingdom,

Piacque a Dario di stabilire sul regno centoventi satrapi, i quali fossero preposti su tutto il regno,

2 a nd higher than they three presidents, of whom Daniel first, that these satraps may give to them an account, and the king have no loss.

e sopra di loro tre prefetti, di cui uno era Daniele, ai quali quei satrapi dovevano render conto, perché il re non ne soffrisse alcun danno.

3 T hen this Daniel hath been overseer over the presidents and satraps, because that an excellent spirit in him, and the king hath thought to establish him over the whole kingdom.

Ora questo Daniele eccelleva sugli altri prefetti e satrapi, perché in lui c'era uno spirito superiore, e il re pensava di stabilirlo sopra tutto il regno.

4 T hen the presidents and satraps have been seeking to find a cause of complaint against Daniel concerning the kingdom, and any cause of complaint and corruption they are not able to find, because that he faithful, and any error and corruption have not been found in him.

Allora i prefetti e i satrapi cercarono di trovare un pretesto contro Daniele riguardo l'amministrazione del regno, ma non poterono trovare alcun pretesto o corruzione, perché egli era fedele e non si potè trovare in lui alcun errore o corruzione.

5 T hen these men are saying, `We do not find against this Daniel any cause of complaint, except we have found against him in the law of his God.'

Allora quegli uomini dissero: «Non troveremo mai nessun pretesto contro questo Daniele, eccetto che lo troviamo contro di lui nella legge stessa del suo Dio».

6 T hen these presidents and satraps have assembled near the king, and thus they are saying to him: `O king Darius, to the ages live!

Allora quei prefetti e satrapi si radunarono tumultuosamente presso il re e gli dissero: «O re Dario, possa tu vivere per sempre!

7 T aken counsel have all the presidents of the kingdom, the prefects, and the satraps, the counsellors, and the governors, to establish a royal statute, and to strengthen an interdict, that any who seeketh a petition from any god and man until thirty days, save of thee, O king, is cast into a den of lions.

Tutti i prefetti del regno, i governatori e i satrapi, i consiglieri e i comandanti si sono consultati insieme per promulgare un editto reale e fare un fermo decreto, in base ai quali chiunque durante trenta giorni rivolgerà una richiesta a qualsiasi dio o uomo all'infuori di te, o re, sia gettato nella fossa dei leoni.

8 N ow, O king, thou dost establish the interdict, and sign the writing, that it is not to be changed, as a law of Media and Persia, that doth not pass away.'

Ora, o re, promulga il decreto e firma il documento, in modo che non possa essere cambiato in conformità alla legge dei Medi e dei Persiani, che è irrevocabile».

9 T herefore king Darius hath signed the writing and interdict.

Il re Dario quindi firmò il documento e il decreto.

10 A nd Daniel, when he hath known that the writing is signed, hath gone up to his house, and the window being opened for him, in his upper chamber, over-against Jerusalem, three times in a day he is kneeling on his knees, and praying, and confessing before his God, because that he was doing before this.

Quando Daniele seppe che il documento era stato firmato, entrò in casa sua. Quindi nella sua camera superiore, con le sue finestre aperte verso Gerusalemme, tre volte al giorno si inginocchiava, pregava e rendeva grazie al suo Dio, come era solito fare prima.

11 T hen these men have assembled, and found Daniel praying and entreating grace before his God;

Allora quegli uomini accorsero tumultuosamente e trovarono Daniele che stava pregando e supplicando il suo Dio.

12 t hen they have come near, yea, they are saying before the king concerning the king's interdict: `Hast thou not signed an interdict, that any man who seeketh from any god and man until thirty days, save of thee, O king, is cast into a den of lions?' Answered hath the king, and said, `The thing certain as a law of Media and Persia, that doth not pass away.'

Cosí si avvicinarono al re e parlarono davanti a lui del decreto reale: «Non hai tu firmato un decreto in base al quale chiunque durante trenta giorni farà una richiesta a qualsiasi dio o uomo all'infuori di te, o re, sarebbe gettato nella fossa dei leoni?». Il re rispose e disse: «La cosa è stabilita in conformità alla legge dei Medi e dei Persiani, che non può essere alterata».

13 T hen they have answered, yea, they are saying before the king, that, `Daniel, who of the sons of the Removed of Judah, hath not placed on thee, O king, regard, nor on the interdict that thou hast signed, and three times in a day he is seeking his petition.'

Allora quelli ripresero a dire davanti al re: «Daniele, che è uno degli esuli di Giuda, non mostra alcun riguardo per te, o re, o per il decreto che hai firmato ma rivolge suppliche al suo Dio tre volte al giorno».

14 T hen the king, when he hath heard the matter, is greatly displeased at himself, and on Daniel he hath set the heart to deliver him, and till the going up of the sun he was arranging to deliver him.

All'udire ciò, il re ne fu grandemente dispiaciuto e si mise in cuore di liberare Daniele, e fino al tramonto del sole si affaticò per strapparlo dalle loro mani.

15 T hen these men have assembled near the king, and are saying to the king, `know, O king, that the law of Media and Persia: That any interdict and statute that the king doth establish is not to be changed.'

Ma quegli uomini vennero tumultuosamente dal re e gli dissero: «Sappi, o re, che è legge dei Medi e dei Persiani che nessun decreto o editto promulgato dal re può essere cambiato».

16 T hen the king hath said, and they have brought Daniel, and have cast into a den of lions. The king hath answered and said to Daniel, `Thy God, whom thou art serving continually, Himself doth deliver thee.'

Allora il re diede l'ordine e Daniele fu portato via e gettato nella fossa dei leoni. Ma il re parlò a Daniele e gli disse: «Il tuo Dio, che tu servi del continuo, sarà egli stesso a liberarti».

17 A nd a stone hath been brought and placed at the mouth of the den, and the king hath sealed it with his signet, and with the signet of his great men, that the purpose be not changed concerning Daniel.

Poi fu portata una pietra che fu messa sulla bocca della fossa il re la sigillò con il suo anello e con l'anello dei suoi grandi, perché la decisione riguardo a Daniele non fosse cambiata.

18 T hen hath the king gone to his palace, and he hath passed the night fasting, and dahavan have not been brought up before him, and his sleep hath fled off him.

Allora il re si ritirò nel suo palazzo e passò la notte digiunando, non fu portato davanti a lui alcun musicista e anche il sonno lo abbandonò.

19 T hen doth the king rise in the early morning, at the light, and in haste to the den of lions he hath gone;

La mattina dopo il re si alzò molto presto e si recò in fretta alla fossa dei leoni.

20 a nd at his coming near to the den, to Daniel, with a grieved voice, he crieth. The king hath answered and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, thy God, whom thou art serving continually, is He able to deliver thee from the lions?'

Giunto vicino alla fossa, chiamò Daniele con voce accorata il re prese a dire a Daniele: «Daniele, servo del Dio vivente, il tuo Dio, che tu servi del continuo ha potuto liberarti dai leoni?».

21 T hen Daniel hath spoken with the king: `O king, to the ages live:

Allora Daniele disse al re: «O re, possa tu vivere per sempre!

22 m y God hath sent His messenger, and hath shut the lions' mouths, and they have not injured me: because that before Him purity hath been found in me; and also before thee, O king, injury I have not done.'

Il mio Dio ha mandato il suo angelo che ha chiuso le bocche dei leoni, ed essi non mi hanno fatto alcun male, perché sono stato trovato innocente davanti a lui; ma anche davanti a te, o re, non ho fatto alcun male».

23 T hen was the king very glad for him, and he hath commanded Daniel to be taken up out of the den, and Daniel hath been taken up out of the den, and no injury hath been found in him, because he hath believed in his God.

Allora il re fu ripieno di gioia e ordinò di tirar fuori Daniele dalla fossa. Cosí Daniele fu tirato fuori dalla fossa e non si trovò su di lui alcuna lesione, perché aveva confidato nel suo Dio.

24 A nd the king hath said, and they have brought those men who had accused Daniel, and to the den of lions they have cast them, they, their sons, and their wives; and they have not come to the lower part of the den till that the lions have power over them, and all their bones they have broken small.

Il re ordinò quindi che fossero fatti venire quegli uomini che avevano accusato Daniele e furono gettati nella fossa dei leoni, essi, i loro figli e le loro mogli. E, prima ancora che giungessero in fondo alla fossa, i leoni furono loro addosso e stritolarono tutte le loro ossa.

25 T hen Darius the king hath written to all the peoples, nations, and languages, who are dwelling in all the land: `Your peace be great!

Allora il re Dario scrisse a tutti i popoli, nazioni e lingue che abitavano su tutta la terra: «La vostra pace sia grande!

26 F rom before me is made a decree, that in every dominion of my kingdom they are trembling and fearing before the God of Daniel, for He the living God, and abiding to the ages, and His kingdom that which not destroyed, and His dominion unto the end.

Io decreto che in tutto il dominio del mio regno si tremi e si tema davanti al Dio di Daniele, perché egli è il Dio vivente, che sussiste in eterno. Il suo regno non sarà mai distrutto e il suo dominio non avrà mai fine.

27 A deliverer, and rescuer, and doer of signs and wonders in the heavens and in earth He who hath delivered Daniel from the paw of the lions.'

Egli libera, salva, e opera segni e prodigi in cielo e sulla terra; è lui che ha liberato Daniele dal potere dei leoni».

28 A nd this Daniel hath prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

Cosí questo Daniele prosperò durante il regno di Dario e durante il regno di Ciro, il Persiano.
