1 A nd Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, in the plains of Moab, by Jordan, Jericho, saying,

L'Eterno parlò ancora a Mosè nelle pianure di Moab presso il Giordano, sulla sponda opposta a Gerico, dicendo:

2 ` Command the sons of Israel, and they have given to the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to inhabit; also a suburb for the cities round about them ye do give to the Levites.

Ordina ai figli d'Israele che, della eredità che possederanno, diano ai Leviti delle città da abitare; darete pure ai Leviti dei terreni da pascolo intorno alle città.

3 A nd the cities have been to them to inhabit, and their suburbs are for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.

Ed essi avranno le città per abitarvi, mentre i terreni da pascolo serviranno per il loro bestiame, per i loro beni e per tutti i loro animali.

4 ` And the suburbs of the cities which ye give to the Levites, from the wall of the city and without, a thousand cubits round about.

I terreni da pascolo delle città che darete ai Leviti si estenderanno dalle mura della città verso l'esterno per mille cubiti, tutt'intorno.

5 A nd ye have measured from the outside of the city, the east quarter, two thousand by the cubit, and the south quarter, two thousand by the cubit, and the west quarter, two thousand by the cubit, and the north quarter, two thousand by the cubit; and the city in the midst; this is to them the suburbs of the cities.

Misurerete dunque, fuori della città, duemila cubiti dal lato est, duemila cubiti dal lato sud, duemila cubiti dal lato ovest e duemila cubiti dal lato nord; la città sarà in mezzo. Questi sono i terreni da pascolo attorno alle città che apparterranno ai Leviti.

6 ` And the cities which ye give to the Levites the six cities of refuge, which ye give for the fleeing thither of the man-slayer, and besides them ye give forty and two cities;

Fra le città che darete ai Leviti voi designerete sei città di rifugio, alle quali possa fuggire chi ha ucciso qualcuno; e a queste aggiungerete altre quarantadue città.

7 a ll the cities which ye give to the Levites forty and eight cities, them and their suburbs.

Tutte le città che darete ai Leviti saranno dunque quarantotto, assieme ai terreni da pascolo.

8 A nd the cities which ye give of the possession of the sons of Israel, from the many ye multiply, and from the few ye diminish; each, according to his inheritance which they inherit, doth give of his cities to the Levites.'

Le città che darete ai Leviti proverranno dalla proprietà dei figli d'Israele; dalle tribù piú grandi ne prenderete di piú, dalle tribù piú piccole ne prenderete di meno; ciascuna tribù darà ai Leviti qualcuna delle sue città, in proporzione della eredità che le sarà toccata.

9 A nd Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

Poi l'Eterno parlò a Mosè, dicendo:

10 ` Speak unto the sons of Israel, and thou hast said unto them, When ye are passing over the Jordan to the land of Canaan,

«Parla ai figli d'Israele e di' loro: Quando passerete il Giordano per entrare nel paese di Canaan,

11 a nd have prepared to yourselves cities -- cities of refuge they are to you -- then fled thither hath a man-slayer, smiting a person unawares,

designerete delle città che siano per voi delle città di rifugio, dove possa fuggire l'omicida che ha ucciso qualcuno involontariamente.

12 a nd the cities have been to you for a refuge from the redeemer, and the man-slayer doth not die till his standing before the company for judgment.

Queste città vi serviranno di rifugio contro il vendicatore perché l'omicida non sia messo a morte prima di essere comparso in giudizio davanti all'assemblea.

13 ` As to the cities which ye give -- six cities of refuge to you;

Delle città che darete, sei saranno dunque per voi città di rifugio.

14 t he three of the cities ye give beyond the Jordan, and the three of the cities ye give in the land of Canaan; cities of refuge they are.

Darete tre città nella parte est del Giordano, e darete tre città nel paese di Canaan; esse saranno città di rifugio.

15 T o sons of Israel, and to a sojourner, and to a settler in their midst, are these six cities for a refuge, for the fleeing thither of any one smiting a person unawares.

Queste sei città serviranno di rifugio per i figli d'Israele, per lo straniero e per colui che risiede fra di voi, affinché chiunque ha ucciso qualcuno involontariamente possa rifugiarvisi.

16 ` And if with an instrument of iron he hath smitten him, and he dieth, he a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.

Ma se uno colpisce un altro con uno strumento di ferro, e quello muore, quel tale è un omicida; l'omicida sarà Messo a Morte.

17 ` And if with a stone the hand, wherewith he dieth, he hath smitten him, and he dieth, he a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.

E se lo colpisce con una pietra che aveva in mano, che può causare la morte, e il colpito muore, quel tale è un omicida; l'omicida sarà messo a morte.

18 ` Or with a wooden instrument the hand, wherewith he dieth, he hath smitten him, and he dieth, he a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.

O se lo colpisce con uno strumento di legno che aveva in mano, che può causare la morte, e il colpito muore, quel tale è un omicida; l'omicida sarà messo a morte.

19 ` The redeemer of blood himself doth put the murderer to death; in his coming against him he doth put him to death.

Sarà il vendicatore del sangue stesso a mettere a morte l'omicida; quando lo incontrerà lo ucciderà.

20 ` And if in hatred he thrust him through, or hath cast at him by lying in wait, and he dieth;

Se uno dà a un altro una spinta per odio o gli lancia contro qualcosa intenzionalmente, e quello muore,

21 o r in enmity he hath smitten him with his hand, and he dieth; the smiter is certainly put to death; he a murderer; the redeemer of blood doth put the murderer to death in his coming against him.

o lo colpisce per inimicizia con la propria mano, e quello muore, chi ha colpito sarà messo a morte; è un omicida; il vendicatore del sangue ucciderà l'omicida quando lo incontrerà.

22 ` And if, in an instant, without enmity, he hath thrust him through, or hath cast at him any instrument, without lying in wait;

Se però in un momento gli dà una spinta senza inimicizia, o gli lancia contro qualcosa ma non intenzionalmente,

23 o r with any stone wherewith he dieth, without seeing, and causeth to fall upon him, and he dieth, and he not his enemy, nor seeking his evil;

o se, senza vederlo, gli fa cadere addosso una pietra che può causare la morte, e quello muore, senza che l'altro gli fosse nemico o cercasse il suo male

24 t hen have the company judged between the smiter and the redeemer of blood, by these judgments.

allora l'assemblea giudicherà fra colui che ha colpito e il vendicatore del sangue in base a queste norme.

25 ` And the company have delivered the man-slayer out of the hand of the redeemer of blood, and the company have caused him to turn back unto the city of his refuge, whither he hath fled, and he hath dwelt in it till the death of the chief priest, who hath been anointed with the holy oil.

L'assemblea libererà l'omicida dalle mani del vendicatore del sangue e lo farà tornare alla città di rifugio dove era fuggito, e là egli abiterà fino alla morte del sommo sacerdote che fu unto con l'olio santo.

26 ` And if the man-slayer at all go out the border of the city of his refuge whither he fleeth,

Ma se l'omicida in qualsiasi momento esce dai confini della città di rifugio dove era fuggito,

27 a nd the redeemer of blood hath found him at the outside of the border of the city of his refuge, and the redeemer of blood hath slain the man-slayer, blood is not for him;

e il vendicatore del sangue trova l'omicida fuori dei confini della sua città di rifugio e lo uccide, il vendicatore del sangue non sarà colpevole del sangue versato,

28 f or in the city of his refuge he doth dwell till the death of the chief priest; and after the death of the chief priest doth the man-slayer turn back unto the city of his possession.

poiché l'omicida avrebbe dovuto rimanere nella sua città di rifugio fino alla morte del sommo sacerdote; dopo la morte del sommo sacerdote l'omicida può invece tornare nella terra di sua proprietà.

29 ` And these things have been to you for a statute of judgment to your generations, in all your dwellings:

Queste vi servano come norme di diritto per tutte le vostre generazioni, dovunque dimorerete.

30 w hoso smiteth a person, by the mouth of witnesses doth slay the murderer; and one witness doth not testify against a person -- to die.

Se uno uccide una persona, l'omicida sarà messo a morte sulla deposizione di testimoni; ma non si metterà a morte nessuno sulla deposizione di un solo testimone.

31 ` And ye take no atonement for the life of a murderer who condemned -- to die, for he is certainly put to death;

Non accetterete alcun prezzo di riscatto per la vita di un omicida che è condannato a morte, perché dovrà essere messo a morte.

32 a nd ye take no atonement for him to flee unto the city of his refuge, to turn back to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.

Non accetterete alcun prezzo di riscatto per un omicida che è fuggito nella sua città di rifugio, perché possa tornare ad abitare nella sua terra prima della morte del sacerdote.

33 ` And ye profane not the land which ye in, for blood profaneth the land; as to the land, it is not pardoned for blood which is shed in it except by the blood of him who sheddeth it;

Non contaminerete il paese dove siete, perché il sangue contamina il paese; e non si può fare alcuna espiazione per il paese, per il sangue che in esso è stato versato se non mediante il sangue di chi l'ha versato.

34 a nd ye defile not the land in which ye are dwelling, in the midst of which I do tabernacle, for I Jehovah do tabernacle in the midst of the sons of Israel.'

Non contaminerete dunque il paese che abitate, e in mezzo al quale io dimoro, poiché io sono l'Eterno che dimoro in mezzo ai figli d'Israele».
