1 F or I wish you to know how great a conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea, and as many as have not seen my face in the flesh,

Voglio infatti che sappiate quanto grande sia il combattimento che sostengo per voi, per quelli che sono a Laodicea e per tutti quelli che non hanno visto la mia faccia di persona,

2 t hat their hearts may be comforted, being united in love, and to all riches of the full assurance of the understanding, to the full knowledge of the secret of the God and Father, and of the Christ,

affinché i loro cuori siano consolati, essendo essi uniti insieme nell'amore, ed ottengano tutte le ricchezze della piena certezza d'intelligenza per la conoscenza del mistero di Dio e Padre e di Cristo,

3 i n whom are all the treasures of the wisdom and the knowledge hid,

in cui sono nascosti tutti i tesori della sapienza e della conoscenza.

4 a nd this I say, that no one may beguile you in enticing words,

Or questo dico, affinché nessuno vi inganni con parole convincenti,

5 f or if even in the flesh I am absent -- yet in the spirit I am with you, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in regard to Christ;

perché, quantunque sia assente da voi col corpo, pure sono con voi con lo spirito e mi rallegro vedendo il vostro ordine e la fermezza della vostra fede in Cristo.

6 a s, then, ye did receive Christ Jesus the Lord, in him walk ye,

Come dunque avete ricevuto Cristo Gesú, il Signore, cosí camminate in lui

7 b eing rooted and built up in him, and confirmed in the faith, as ye were taught -- abounding in it in thanksgiving.

essendo radicati ed edificati in lui, e confermati nella fede come vi è stato insegnato, abbondando in essa con ringraziamento.

8 S ee that no one shall be carrying you away as spoil through the philosophy and vain deceit, according to the deliverance of men, according to the rudiments of the world, and not according to Christ,

Guardate che nessuno vi faccia sua preda con la filosofia e con vano inganno, secondo la tradizione degli uomini, secondo gli elementi del mondo e non secondo Cristo,

9 b ecause in him doth tabernacle all the fulness of the Godhead bodily,

poiché in lui abita corporalmente tutta la pienezza della Deità.

10 a nd ye are in him made full, who is the head of all principality and authority,

E voi avete ricevuto la pienezza in lui, essendo egli il capo di ogni principato e potestà,

11 i n whom also ye were circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the putting off of the body of the sins of the flesh in the circumcision of the Christ,

nel quale siete anche stati circoncisi di una circoncisione, fatta senza mano d'uomo, ma della circoncisione di Cristo, mediante lo spogliamento del corpo dei peccati della carne:

12 b eing buried with him in the baptism, in which also ye rose with through the faith of the working of God, who did raise him out of the dead.

essendo stati sepolti con lui nel battesimo, in lui siete anche stati insieme risuscitati, mediante la fede nella potenza di Dio che lo ha risuscitato dai morti.

13 A nd you -- being dead in the trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh -- He made alive together with him, having forgiven you all the trespasses,

E con lui Dio ha vivificato voi, che eravate morti nei peccati e nell'incirconcisione della carne, perdonandovi tutti i peccati.

14 h aving blotted out the handwriting in the ordinances that is against us, that was contrary to us, and he hath taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross;

Egli ha annientato il documento fatto di ordinamenti, che era contro di noi e che ci era nemico, e l'ha tolto di mezzo inchiodandolo alla croce;

15 h aving stripped the principalities and the authorities, he made a shew of them openly -- having triumphed over them in it.

avendo quindi spogliato le potestà e i principati, ne ha fatto un pubblico spettacolo, trionfando su di loro in lui.

16 L et no one, then, judge you in eating or in drinking, or in respect of a feast, or of a new moon, or of sabbaths,

Nessuno dunque vi giudichi per cibi o bevande, o rispetto a feste, a noviluni o ai sabati;

17 w hich are a shadow of the coming things, and the body of the Christ;

queste cose sono ombra di quelle che devono venire; ma il corpo è di Cristo.

18 l et no one beguile you of your prize, delighting in humble-mindedness and worship of the messengers, intruding into the things he hath not seen, being vainly puffed up by the mind of his flesh,

Nessuno vi derubi del premio con un pretesto di umiltà e di culto degli angeli, fondandosi su cose che non ha visto, essendo temerariamente gonfio a motivo della sua mente carnale

19 a nd not holding the head, from which all the body -- through the joints and bands gathering supply, and being knit together -- may increase with the increase of God.

e non attenendosi al capo, da cui tutto il corpo, ben nutrito e tenuto insieme mediante le giunture e le articolazioni cresce con l'accrescimento che viene da Dio.

20 I f, then, ye did die with the Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances?

Se dunque siete morti con Cristo agli elementi del mondo, perché vi sottoponete a dei precetti come se viveste nel mondo, quali:

21 - - thou mayest not touch, nor taste, nor handle --

«Non toccare, non assaggiare, non maneggiare»,

22 w hich are all for destruction with the using, after the commands and teachings of men,

tutte cose che periscono con l'uso, secondo i comandamenti e le dottrine degli uomini?

23 w hich are, indeed, having a matter of wisdom in will-worship, and humble-mindedness, and neglecting of body -- not in any honour, unto a satisfying of the flesh.

Queste cose hanno sí qualche apparenza di sapienza nella religiosità volontariamente scelta, nella falsa umiltà e nel trattamento duro del corpo, ma non hanno alcun valore contro le intemperanze carnali.
