1 A nd David hath passed on a little from the top, and lo, Ziba, servant of Mephibosheth -- to meet him, and a couple of asses saddled, and upon them two hundred loaves, and a hundred bunches of raisins, and a hundred summer-fruit, and a bottle of wine.

Davide aveva di poco superato la cima del monte, quand'ecco Tsiba servo di Mefibosceth gli si fece incontro con un paio di asini sellati e carichi di duecento pani, cento grappoli di uva secca, cento frutti d'estate e un otre di vino.

2 A nd the king saith unto Ziba, `What -- these to thee?' and Ziba saith, `The asses for the household of the king to ride on, and the bread and the summer-fruit for the young men to eat, and the wine for the wearied to drink in the wilderness.'

Il re disse a Tsiba: «Cosa intendi fare con queste cose?». Tsiba rispose: «Gli asini serviranno di cavalcatura alla casa del re; il pane e i frutti d'estate sono per nutrire i giovani, e il vino è perché ne bevano quelli che saranno stanchi nel deserto».

3 A nd the king saith, `And where the son of thy lord?' and Ziba saith unto the king, `Lo, he is abiding in Jerusalem, for he said, To-day do the house of Israel give back to me the kingdom of my father.'

Il re disse: «Dov'è il figlio del tuo signore?». Tsiba rispose al re: «Ecco, è rimasto a Gerusalemme, perché ha detto: "Oggi la casa d'Israele mi restituirà il regno di mio padre"».

4 A nd the king saith to Ziba, `Lo, thine all that Mephibosheth hath;' and Ziba saith, `I have bowed myself -- I find grace in thine eyes, my lord, O king.'

Allora il re disse a Tsiba: «Ecco tutto ciò che appartiene a Mefibosceth è tuo». Tsiba rispose: «Io mi prostro davanti a te. Possa io trovare grazia ai tuoi occhi, o re mio signore!».

5 A nd king David hath come in unto Bahurim, and lo, thence a man is coming out, of the family of the house of Saul, and his name Shimei, son of Gera, he cometh out, coming out and reviling;

Quando il re Davide giunse a Bahurim, ecco uscire di là un uomo della stessa parentela della casa di Saul, di nome Scimei, figlio di Ghera. Egli usciva proferendo maledizioni,

6 a nd he stoneth David with stones, and all the servants of king David, and all the people, and all the mighty men on his right and on his left.

e gettava sassi contro Davide e contro tutti i servi del re Davide, mentre tutto il popolo e tutti gli uomini di valore stavano alla destra e alla sinistra del re.

7 A nd thus said Shimei in his reviling, `Go out, go out, O man of blood, and man of worthlessness!

Mentre malediceva Scimei diceva «Vattene, vattene, uomo sanguinario e scellerato!

8 J ehovah hath turned back on thee all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead thou hast reigned, and Jehovah doth give the kingdom in to the hand of Absalom thy son; and lo, thou in thine evil, for a man of blood thou.'

L'Eterno ha fatto cadere sul tuo capo tutto il sangue della casa di Saul, al posto del quale tu hai regnato; e l'Eterno ha dato il regno nelle mani di Absalom, tuo figlio; ed eccoti ora preso nella tua stessa malvagità, perché sei un uomo sanguinario».

9 A nd Abishai son of Zeruiah saith unto the king, `Why doth this dead dog revile my lord the king? let me pass over, I pray thee, and I turn aside his head.'

Allora Abishai, figlio di Tseruiah, disse al re: «Perché questo cane morto deve maledire il re, mio signore? Ti prego, lascia che io vada a troncargli la testa!».

10 A nd the king saith, `What -- to me and to you, O sons of Zeruiah? for -- let him revile; even because Jehovah hath said to him, Revile David; and who saith, Wherefore hast Thou done so?'

Ma il re rispose: «Che ho da fare con voi, figli di Tseruiah? Per cui lasciatelo maledire, perché l'Eterno gli ha detto: "Maledici Davide!". E chi può dire: "Perché fai cosí?"».

11 A nd David saith unto Abishai, and unto all his servants, `Lo, my son who came out of my bowels is seeking my life, and also surely now the Benjamite; leave him alone, and let him revile, for Jehovah hath said to him;

Poi Davide disse ad Abishai e a tutti i suoi servi: «Ecco, mio figlio, che è uscito dalle mie viscere, cerca di togliermi la vita; a maggior ragione quindi questo Beniaminita! Lasciatelo stare e lasciate che maledica, perché glielo ha ordinato l'Eterno.

12 i t may be Jehovah doth look on mine affliction, and Jehovah hath turned back to me good for his reviling this day.'

Forse l'Eterno vedrà la mia afflizione e l'Eterno mi farà del bene in cambio delle sue maledizioni di oggi».

13 A nd David goeth with his men in the way, and Shimei is going at the side of the hill over-against him, going on, and he revileth, and stoneth with stones over-against him, and hath dusted with dust.

Cosí Davide e la sua gente continuarono il loro cammino; anche Scimei camminava sul fianco del monte, di fronte a Davide e, cammin facendo, lo malediceva, gli tirava sassi e lanciava polvere.

14 A nd the king cometh in, and all the people who with him, wearied, and they are refreshed there.

Il re e tutta la gente che era con lui arrivarono a destinazione stanchi, e là si rianimarono.

15 A nd Absalom and all the people, the men of Israel, have come in to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him,

Nel frattempo Absalom e tutto il popolo, gli uomini d'Israele, erano entrati in Gerusalemme, Ahithofel era con lui.

16 a nd it cometh to pass, when Hushai the Archite, David's friend, hath come unto Absalom, that Hushai saith unto Absalom, `Let the king live! let the king live!'

Quando Hushai, l'Arkita, l'amico di Davide, giunse da Absalom, Hushai disse ad Absalom: «Viva il re! Viva il re!».

17 A nd Absalom saith unto Hushai, `This thy kindness with thy friend! why hast thou not gone with thy friend?'

Absalom disse a Hushai: «E' questo l'amore che porti al tuo amico? Perché non sei tu andato col tuo amico?».

18 A nd Hushai saith unto Absalom, `Nay, for he whom Jehovah hath chosen, and this people, even all the men of Israel, his I am, and with him I abide;

Hushai rispose ad Absalom: «No, io sarò di colui che l'Eterno e questo popolo e tutti gli uomini d'Israele hanno scelto, e con lui rimarrò.

19 a nd secondly, for whom do I labour? is it not before his son? as I served before thy father so am I before thee.'

Non dovrei forse servire suo figlio? Come ho servito tuo padre, cosí servirò te».

20 A nd Absalom saith unto Ahithophel, `Give for you counsel what we do.'

Allora Absalom disse a Ahithofel: «Date il vostro consiglio! Cosa dobbiamo fare?».

21 A nd Ahithophel saith unto Absalom, `Go in unto the concubines of thy father, whom he left to keep the house, and all Israel hath heard that thou hast been abhorred by thy father, and the hands of all who with thee have been strong.'

Ahithofel rispose ad Absalom: «Entra dalle concubine di tuo padre, che egli ha lasciato a custodire la casa così tutto Israele saprà che ti sei reso odioso a tuo padre e si rafforzerà il coraggio di quelli che sono con te».

22 A nd they spread out for Absalom the tent on the roof, and Absalom goeth in unto the concubines of his father before the eyes of all Israel.

Eressero quindi una tenda sulla terrazza per Absalom, e Absalom entrò dalle concubine di suo padre sotto gli occhi di tutto Israele.

23 A nd the counsel of Ahithophel which he counselled in those days as one inquireth at the word of God; so all the counsel of Ahithophel both to David and to Absalom.

In quei giorni, un consiglio dato da Ahithofel aveva lo stesso valore di chi avesse consultato la parola di DIO. Cosí era ogni consiglio di Ahithofel tanto per Davide che per Absalom.
