1 A nd Joseph cometh, and declareth to Pharaoh, and saith, `My father, and my brethren, and their flock, and their herd, and all they have, have come from the land of Canaan, and lo, they in the land of Goshen.'

Giuseppe andò quindi a informare il Faraone e gli disse: «Mio padre e i miei fratelli con le loro greggi, con i loro armenti e con tutto quello che hanno, sono venuti dal paese di Canaan; ed ecco, sono nel paese di Goscen».

2 A nd out of his brethren he hath taken five men, and setteth them before Pharaoh;

Quindi prese cinque uomini tra i suoi fratelli e li presentò al Faraone.

3 a nd Pharaoh saith unto his brethren, `What your works?' and they say unto Pharaoh, `Thy servants feeders of a flock, both we and our fathers;'

Allora il Faraone disse ai fratelli di Giuseppe: «Qual è la vostra occupazione?». Essi risposero al Faraone: «I tuoi servi sono pastori, tanto noi che i nostri padri».

4 a nd they say unto Pharaoh, `To sojourn in the land we have come, for there is no pasture for the flock which thy servants have, for grievous the famine in the land of Canaan; and now, let thy servants, we pray thee, dwell in the land of Goshen.'

Poi dissero al Faraone: «Siamo venuti per dimorare in questo paese, perché non vi era più pastura per le greggi dei tuoi servi, poiché vi è una grande carestia nel paese di Canaan. Deh, permetti ora che i tuoi servi dimorino nel paese di Goscen».

5 A nd Pharaoh speaketh unto Joseph, saying, `Thy father and thy brethren have come unto thee:

Allora il Faraone parlò a Giuseppe, dicendo: «Tuo padre e i tuoi fratelli sono venuti da te;

6 t he land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land cause thy father and thy brethren to dwell -- they dwell in the land of Goshen, and if thou hast known, and there are among them men of ability, then thou hast set them heads over the cattle I have.'

il paese d'Egitto è a tua disposizione; fa' abitare tuo padre e tuoi fratelli nella parte migliore del paese; dimorino pure nel paese d Goscen. E se tu sai che fra loro ci sono degli uomini capaci, falli soprintendenti del mio bestiame».

7 A nd Joseph bringeth in Jacob his father, and causeth him to stand before Pharaoh; and Jacob blesseth Pharaoh.

Poi Giuseppe condusse Giacobbe suo padre dal Faraone e glielo presentò. E Giacobbe benedisse il Faraone.

8 A nd Pharaoh saith unto Jacob, `How many the days of the years of thy life?'

Il Faraone allora disse a Giacobbe: «Quanti sono gli anni della tua vita?».

9 A nd Jacob saith unto Pharaoh, `The days of the years of my sojournings an hundred and thirty years; few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not reached the days of the years of the life of my fathers, in the days of their sojournings.'

Giacobbe rispose al Faraone: «gli anni del mio pellegrinare sono centotrent'anni; gli anni della mia vita sono stati pochi e cattivi, e non hanno raggiunto il numero degli anni della vita dei miei padri, nei giorni del loro pellegrinare»

10 A nd Jacob blesseth Pharaoh, and goeth out from before Pharaoh.

Giacobbe benedisse ancora il Faraone e si ritirò dalla presenza del Faraone.

11 A nd Joseph settleth his father and his brethren, and giveth to them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh commanded;

Così Giuseppe stabilì suo padre e i suoi fratelli e diede loro una proprietà nel paese di Egitto, nella parte migliore del paese, nella contrada di Ramses come Il Faraone aveva ordinato.

12 a nd Joseph nourisheth his father, and his brethren, and all the house of his father bread, according to the mouth of the infants.

E Giuseppe sostentò suo padre, i suoi fratelli e tutta la famiglia di suo padre, rifornendoli di pane, secondo il numero de figli.

13 A nd there is no bread in all the land, for the famine very grievous, and the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan are feeble because of the famine;

Or in tutto il paese non c'era pane, perché la carestia era gravissima; il paese d'Egitto e il paese di Canaan languivano a motivo della carestia.

14 a nd Joseph gathereth all the silver that is found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the corn that they are buying, and Joseph bringeth the silver into the house of Pharaoh.

Giuseppe ammassò tutto il denaro che si trovava nel paese d'Egitto e nel paese di Canaan in cambio del grano che essi compravano; e Giuseppe portò questo denaro nella casa del Faraone.

15 A nd the silver is consumed out of the land of Egypt, and out of the land of Canaan, and all the Egyptians come in unto Joseph, saying, `Give to us bread -- why do we die before thee, though the money hath ceased?'

Or quando nel paese d' Egitto e nel paese di Canaan venne a mancare Il denaro, tutti gli Egiziani vennero da Giuseppe e dissero: «Dacci del pane! Perché dovremmo morire sotto i tuoi occhi? Poiché il nostro denaro è finito».

16 a nd Joseph saith, `Give your cattle; and I give to you for your cattle, if the money hath ceased.'

Giuseppe disse: «Date il vostro bestiame; e io vi darò del pane in cambio del vostro bestiame, se è finito il denaro».

17 A nd they bring in their cattle unto Joseph, and Joseph giveth to them bread, for the horses, and for the cattle of the flock, and for the cattle of the herd, and for the asses; and he tendeth them with bread, for all their cattle, during that year.

Allora essi portarono a Giuseppe il loro bestiame; e Giuseppe diede loro del pane in cambio dei loro cavalli, delle loro greggi di pecore, delle loro mandrie di buoi e dei loro asini. Così fornì loro del pane per quell'anno, in cambio di tutto il loro bestiame.

18 A nd that year is finished, and they come in unto him on the second year, and say to him, `We do not hide from my lord, that since the money hath been finished, and possession of the cattle unto my lord, there hath not been left before my lord save our bodies, and our ground;

Passato quell'anno, tornarono da lui l'anno seguente e gli dissero: «Non possiamo nascondere al mio signore che, siccome il denaro è finito e le mandrie del nostro bestiame sono passate in proprietà del mio signore, nulla piú resta che il mio signore possa prendere tranne i nostri corpi e le nostre terre.

19 w hy do we die before thine eyes, both we and our ground? buy us and our ground for bread, and we and our ground are servants to Pharaoh; and give seed, and we live, and die not, and the ground is not desolate.'

Perché dovremmo perire sotto i tuoi occhi, noi e le nostre terre? Compra noi e le nostre terre in cambio di pane, e noi con le nostre terre saremo schiavi del Faraone; e dacci da seminare affinché possiamo vivere e non morire, e il suolo non diventi un deserto».

20 A nd Joseph buyeth all the ground of Egypt for Pharaoh, for the Egyptians have sold each his field, for the famine hath been severe upon them, and the land becometh Pharaoh's;

Così Giuseppe acquistò per il Faraone tutte le terre d'Egitto, perché gli Egiziani vendettero ciascuno il proprio campo, poiché la carestia li colpiva gravemente. Così il paese diventò proprietà del Faraone.

21 a s to the people he hath removed them to cities from the end of the border of Egypt even unto its end.

Quanto al popolo, lo spostò nelle città, da un capo all'altro dell'Egitto;

22 O nly the ground of the priests he hath not bought, for the priests have a portion from Pharaoh, and they have eaten their portion which Pharaoh hath given to them, therefore they have not sold their ground.

solo le terre dei sacerdoti non acquistò, perché i sacerdoti ricevevano una provvigione assegnata loro dal Faraone e vivevano della provvigione che il Faraone dava loro; per questo essi non vendettero le loro terre.

23 A nd Joseph saith unto the people, `Lo, I have bought you to-day and your ground for Pharaoh; lo, seed for you, and ye have sown the ground,

Poi Giuseppe disse al popolo: «Ecco, oggi ho acquistato voi e le vostre terre per il Faraone; eccovi del seme; seminate la terra;

24 a nd it hath come to pass in the increases, that ye have given a fifth to Pharaoh, and four of the parts are for yourselves, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for those who in your houses, and for food for your infants.'

al tempo del raccolto, ne darete il quinto al Faraone, e quattro parti saranno vostre per la semente dei campi, per il nutrimento vostro e di quelli di casa vostra, e per il nutrimento dei vostri bambini».

25 A nd they say, `Thou hast revived us; we find grace in the eyes of my lord, and have been servants to Pharaoh;'

E quelli dissero: «Tu ci hai salvato la vita! Ci sia dato di trovar grazia agli occhi del mio signore, e saremo schiavi del Faraone».

26 a nd Joseph setteth it for a statute unto this day, concerning the ground of Egypt, Pharaoh hath a fifth; only the ground of the priests alone hath not become Pharaoh's.

Giuseppe fece di questo una legge nel paese d'Egitto, che dura fino al giorno d'oggi, secondo la quale si deve dare la quinta parte del raccolto al Faraone. Soltanto le terre dei sacerdoti non diventarono proprietà del Faraone.

27 A nd Israel dwelleth in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen, and they have possession in it, and are fruitful, and multiply exceedingly;

Così Israele abitò nel paese d'Egitto, nel paese di Goscen; là essi ebbero dei possedimenti, furono fruttiferi e si moltiplicarono grandemente.

28 a nd Jacob liveth in the land of Egypt seventeen years, and the days of Jacob, the years of his life, are an hundred and forty and seven years.

Or Giacobbe visse nel paese d'Egitto diciassette anni; e la durata della vita di Giacobbe fu di centoquarantasette anni.

29 A nd the days of Israel are near to die, and he calleth for his son, for Joseph, and saith to him, `If, I pray thee, I have found grace in thine eyes, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh, and thou hast done with me kindness and truth; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt,

Quando il tempo della morte per Israele fu vicino, egli chiamò suo figlio Giuseppe e gli disse: «Deh, se ho trovato grazia agli occhi tuoi, metti la tua mano sotto la mia coscia e usa con me benignità e fedeltà; di grazia, non seppellirmi in Egitto!

30 a nd I have lain with my fathers, and thou hast borne me out of Egypt, and buried me in their burying-place.' And he saith, `I -- I do according to thy word;'

Ma, quando mi riposerò coi miei padri, portami fuori d'Egitto e seppelliscimi nel loro sepolcro!». Egli rispose: «Farò come tu dici».

31 a nd he saith, `Swear to me;' and he sweareth to him, and Israel boweth himself on the head of the bed.

Allora Giacobbe disse: «Giuramelo». E Giuseppe glielo giurò. Quindi Israele, appoggiandosi al capo del letto, adorò.
