1 A nd the day cometh that Jonathan son of Saul saith unto the young man bearing his weapons, `Come, and we pass over unto the station of the Philistines, which on the other side of this;' and to his father he hath not declared.

Or avvenne che un giorno, Gionathan, figlio di Saul, disse al suo giovane scudiero: «Vieni, andiamo verso la postazione dei Filistei, che è dall'altra parte». Ma non disse nulla a suo padre.

2 A nd Saul is abiding at the extremity of Gibeah, under the pomegranate which in Migron, and the people who with him, about six hundred men,

Saul stava allora all'estremità di Ghibeah sotto il melograno che è a Migron, e la gente che aveva con sè ammontava a circa seicento uomini.

3 a nd Ahiah, son of Ahitub, brother of I-Chabod, son of Phinehas son of Eli priest of Jehovah in Shiloh, bearing an ephod; and the people knew not that Jonathan hath gone.

Ahijah, figlio di Ahitub, fratello d'Ikabod, figlio di Finehas, figlio di Eli sacerdote dell'Eterno, a Sciloh indossava l'efod. Ma il popolo non sapeva che Gionathan se ne fosse andato.

4 A nd between the passages where Jonathan sought to pass over unto the station of the Philistines the edge of a rock on the one side, and the edge of a rock on the other side, and the name of the one is Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.

Or fra i valichi per i quali Gionathan cercava di arrivare alla postazione dei Filistei, c'era una roccia sporgente da una parte e una roccia sporgente dall'altra parte: una si chiamava Botsets e l'altra Seneh.

5 T he one edge fixed on the north over-against Michmash, and the one on the south over-against Gibeah.

Una delle rocce sporgenti sorgeva a nord di fronte a Mikmash, e l'altra a sud di fronte a Ghibeah.

6 A nd Jonathan saith unto the young man bearing his weapons, `Come, and we pass over unto the station of these uncircumcised; it may be Jehovah doth work for us, for there is no restraint to Jehovah to save by many or by few.'

Gionathan disse al suo giovane scudiero: «Vieni, andiamo verso la postazione di questi incirconcisi; forse l'Eterno opererà a nostro favore, perché nulla può impedire all'Eterno di salvare con molti o con pochi».

7 A nd the bearer of his weapons saith to him, `Do all that in thy heart; turn for thee; lo, I with thee, as thine own heart.'

Il suo scudiero gli rispose: «Fa' tutto ciò che hai nel cuore; va' pure; eccomi pronto ad andare con te ovunque il tuo cuore desidera».

8 A nd Jonathan saith, `Lo, we are passing over unto the men, and are revealed unto them;

Allora Gionathan disse: «Ecco, noi andremo verso quegli uomini e ci faremo vedere da loro.

9 i f thus they say unto us, `Stand still till we have come unto you,' then we have stood in our place, and do not go up unto them;

Se ci diranno: "Fermatevi finché noi vi raggiungiamo", ci fermeremo al nostro posto e non saliremo da loro;

10 a nd if thus they say, `Come up against us,' then we have gone up, for Jehovah hath given them into our hand, and this to us the sign.

ma se diranno: "Salite da noi", saliremo perché l'Eterno li ha dati nelle nostre mani; e questo ci servirà di segno»

11 A nd revealed are both of them unto the station of the Philistines, and the Philistines say, `Lo, Hebrews are coming out of the holes where they have hid themselves.'

Così entrambi si fecero vedere dalla guarnigione dei Filistei; e i Filistei dissero. «Ecco gli Ebrei che escono dalle grotte dove si erano nascosti!».

12 A nd the men of the station answer Jonathan, and the bearer of his weapons, and say, `Come up unto us, and we cause you to know something.' And Jonathan saith unto the bearer of his weapons, `Come up after me, for Jehovah hath given them into the hand of Israel.'

Poi gli uomini della guarnigione si rivolsero a Gionathan e al suo scudiero e dissero: «Salite da noi che abbiamo qualcosa da dirvi». Allora Gionathan disse al suo scudiero: «Sali dietro di me, perché l'Eterno li ha dati nelle mani d'Israele».

13 A nd Jonathan goeth up on his hands, and on his feet, and the bearer of his weapons after him; and they fall before Jonathan, and the bearer of his weapons is putting to death after him.

Gionathan salì arrampicandosi con le mani e con i piedi, seguito dal suo scudiero. I Filistei cadevano davanti a Gionathan, e ll suo scudiero dietro di lui li finiva.

14 A nd the first smiting which Jonathan and the bearer of his weapons have smitten is of about twenty men, in about half a furrow of a yoke of a field,

Questa fu la prima strage compiuta da Gionathan e dal suo scudiero, in essa caddero circa venti uomini, in circa mezzo iugero di terra.

15 a nd there is a trembling in the camp, in the field, and among all the people, the station and the destroyers have trembled -- even they, and the earth shaketh, and it becometh a trembling of God.

Lo spavento si diffuse nell'accampamento, nella campagna e fra tutto il popolo; la guarnigione e i razziatori furono anch'essi spaventati; la terra stessa tremò, e fu così uno spavento di DIO.

16 A nd the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin see, and lo, the multitude hath melted away, and it goeth on, and is beaten down.

Le sentinelle di Saul a Ghibeah di Beniamino guardarono e videro che la moltitudine si disperdeva e fuggiva di qui e di là.

17 A nd Saul saith to the people who with him, `Inspect, I pray you, and see; who hath gone from us?' and they inspect, and lo, Jonathan and the bearer of his weapons are not.

Allora Saul disse alla gente che era con lui: «Fate l'appello per vedere chi se n'è andato da noi». Fatto l'appello, ecco che mancavano Gionathan e il suo scudiero.

18 A nd Saul saith to Ahiah, `Bring nigh the ark of God;' for the ark of God hath been on that day with the sons of Israel.

Allora Saul disse ad Ahijah: «Fa' accostare l'arca di DIO!» (poiché allora l'arca di DIO era con i figli d'Israele).

19 A nd it cometh to pass, while Saul spake unto the priest, that the noise which in the camp of the Philistines goeth on, going on and becoming great, and Saul saith unto the priest, `Remove thy hand.'

Or mentre Saul parlava col sacerdote, il tumulto nell'accampamento dei Filistei andava crescendo; così Saul disse al sacerdote: «Ritira la tua mano!».

20 A nd Saul is called, and all the people who with him, and they come in unto the battle, and, lo, the sword of each hath been against his neighbour -- a very great destruction.

Poi Saul e tutto il popolo che era con lui si radunarono e si mossero verso il luogo della battaglia; ed ecco che la spada di ognuno era rivolta contro il suo compagno, e la confusione era grandissima.

21 A nd the Hebrews have been for the Philistines as heretofore, who had gone up with them into the camp, have turned round, even they, to be with Israel who with Saul and Jonathan,

Gli Ebrei stessi, che da un po' di tempo si trovavano con i Filistei ed erano saliti con loro all'accampamento dalla regione circostante, si unirono con gl'Israeliti che erano con Saul e Gionathan.

22 a nd all the men of Israel, who are hiding themselves in the hill-country of Ephraim, have heard that the Philistines have fled, and they pursue -- even they -- after them in battle.

Similmente tutti gl'Israeliti che si erano nascosti nella regione montuosa di Efraim, quando seppero che i Filistei fuggivano si misero anch'essi a inseguirli unendosi alla battaglia.

23 A nd Jehovah saveth Israel on that day, and the battle hath passed over to Beth-Aven.

Così in quel giorno l'Eterno salvò Israele e la battaglia si estese fino a Beth-Aven.

24 A nd the men of Israel have been distressed on that day, and Saul adjureth the people, saying, `Cursed the man who eateth food till the evening, and I have been avenged of mine enemies;' and none of the people hath tasted food.

Ma in quel giorno gli uomini d'Israele erano stremati, perché Saul aveva fatto fare al popolo questo giuramento: «Maledetto l'uomo che toccherà cibo prima di sera, prima che mi sia vendicato dei miei nemici». Così nessuno del popolo toccò cibo.

25 A nd all the land have come into a forest, and there is honey on the face of the field;

Or tutto il popolo entrò in una foresta, dove c'era del miele per terra.

26 a nd the people come in unto the forest, and lo, the honey dropped, and none is moving his hand unto his mouth, for the people feared the oath.

Come il popolo entrò nella foresta, vide il miele che colava; ma nessuno si portò la mano alla bocca, perché il popolo aveva timore del giuramento.

27 A nd Jonathan hath not heard of his father's adjuring the people, and putteth forth the end of the rod, which in his hand, and dippeth it in the honeycomb, and bringeth back his hand unto his mouth -- and his eyes see!

Ma Gionathan non aveva sentito quando suo padre aveva fatto giurare il popolo; perciò stese la punta del bastone che teneva in mano, la intinse nel favo di miele e portò la mano alla bocca; così la sua vista si schiarò.

28 A nd a man of the people answereth and saith, `Thy father certainly adjured the people, saying, Cursed the man who eateth food to-day; and the people are weary.'

Uno del popolo prese la parola e disse: «Tuo padre ha espressamente fatto fare al popolo questo giuramento, dicendo: "Maledetto l'uomo che toccherà cibo oggi" benché il popolo fosse stremato».

29 A nd Jonathan saith, `My father hath troubled the land; see, I pray you, that mine eyes have become bright because I tasted a little of this honey.

Allora Gionathan disse: «Mio padre ha recato un danno al paese; vedete come, per aver gustato un po' di questo miele, la mia vista si è schiarita.

30 H ow much more if the people had well eaten to-day of the spoil of its enemies which it hath found, for now, the smiting hath not been great among the Philistines.'

Quanto meglio sarebbe stato se il popolo avesse oggi mangiato liberamente del bottino che ha trovato presso i nemici! Non ci sarebbe stata una più grande strage dei Filistei?».

31 A nd they smite on that day among the Philistines from Michmash to Aijalon, and the people are very weary,

In quel giorno essi sconfissero i Filistei da Mikmash ad Aijalon, ma il popolo era estenuato.

32 a nd the people make unto the spoil, and take sheep, and oxen, and sons of the herd, and slaughter on the earth, and the people eat with the blood.

Così il popolo Si gettò sul bottino prese pecore, buoi e vitelli e li scannò a terra; e il popolo li mangiò col sangue.

33 A nd they declare to Saul, saying, `Lo, the people are sinning against Jehovah, to eat with the blood.' And he saith, `Ye have dealt treacherously, roll unto me to-day a great stone.'

Questo fu riferito a Saul e gli fu detto: «Ecco, il popolo pecca contro l'Eterno mangiando carne col sangue». Egli disse: «Voi avete commesso una trasgressione; rotolate subito qui da me una grande pietra».

34 A nd Saul saith, `Be ye scattered among the people, and ye have said to them, Bring ye nigh unto me each his ox, and each his sheep; and ye have slain in this place, and eaten, and ye do not sin against Jehovah to eat with the blood.' And all the people bring nigh each his ox, in his hand, that night, and slaughter there.

Poi Saul ordinò: «Sparpagliatevi fra il popolo e ditegli: "Ognuno porti qui da me il suo bue e la sua pecora; scannateli qui e poi mangiate, ma non peccate contro l'Eterno mangiando carne con sangue!"». Così ognuno del popolo quella notte portò con sé il suo bue e lo scannò in quel luogo.

35 A nd Saul buildeth an alter to Jehovah; with it he hath begun to build altars to Jehovah.

Saul edificò quindi un altare all'Eterno; questo fu il primo altare che egli edificò all'Eterno.

36 A nd Saul saith, `Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and we prey upon them till the light of the morning, and leave not a man of them.' And they say, `All that is good in thine eyes do.' And the priest saith, `Let us draw near hither unto God.'

Poi Saul disse: «Scendiamo di notte a inseguire i Filistei e deprediamoli fino alla luce del mattino; e non lasciamo in vita uno solo di loro». Il popolo rispose: «Fa' tutto ciò che ti sembra bene». Allora il sacerdote disse: «Avviciniamoci a DIO qui».

37 A nd Saul asketh of God, `Do I go down after the Philistines? dost Thou give them into the hand of Israel?' and He hath not answered him on that day.

Così Saul interrogò DIO: «Devo scendere a inseguire i Filistei? Li darai nelle mani d'Israele?». Ma DIO non gli diede alcuna risposta.

38 A nd Saul saith, `Draw ye nigh hither all, the chiefs of the people, and know and see in what this sin hath been to-day;

Saul allora disse: «Avvicinatevi qui voi tutti capi del popolo, e riconoscete e vedete quale sia stato il peccato oggi commesso,

39 f or, Jehovah liveth, who is saving Israel: surely if it be in Jonathan my son, surely he doth certainly die;' and none is answering him out of all the people.

perché, come è vero che l'Eterno, il salvatore d'Israele, vive anche se si trovasse in Gionathan mio figlio egli dovrà morire». Ma nessuno fra tutto il popolo gli rispose.

40 A nd he saith unto all Israel, `Ye -- ye are on one side, and I and Jonathan my son are on another side;' and the people say unto Saul, `That which is good in thine eyes do.'

Allora egli disse a tutto Israele: «Voi state da una parte, e io e Gionathan mio figlio staremo dall'altra». Il popolo rispose a Saul: «Fa' ciò che ti sembra bene».

41 A nd Saul saith unto Jehovah, God of Israel, `Give perfection;' and Jonathan and Saul are captured, and the people went out.

Perciò Saul disse all'Eterno: «DIO d'Israele da' la giusta risposta». Così furono designati Gionathan e Saul, e il popolo scampò.

42 A nd Saul saith, `Cast between me and Jonathan my son;' and Jonathan is captured.

Poi Saul disse: «Tirate a sorte fra me e Gionathan mio figlio». Così fu designato Gionathan.

43 A nd Saul saith unto Jonathan, `Declare to me, what hast thou done?' and Jonathan declareth to him, and saith, `I certainly tasted with the end of the rod that in my hand a little honey; lo, I die!'

Allora Saul disse a Gionathan: «Dimmi ciò che hai fatto». Gionathan gli dichiarò e disse: «Ho assaggiato un po' di miele con la punta del bastone che avevo in mano; eccomi, morirò»

44 A nd Saul saith, `Thus doth God do, and thus doth He add, for thou dost certainly die, Jonathan.'

Saul disse: «DIO faccia questo e anche peggio, perché tu certamente morirai, o Gionathan!».

45 A nd the people say unto Saul, `Doth Jonathan die who wrought this great salvation in Israel? -- a profanation! Jehovah liveth, if there falleth from the hair of his head to the earth, for with God he hath wrought this day;' and the people rescue Jonathan, and he hath not died.

Ma il popolo disse a Saul: «Dovrà Gionathan, che ha operato questa grande liberazione in Israele, morire? Non sia mai! Com'è vero che l'Eterno vive non cadrà in terra un sol capello del suo capo, perché oggi egli ha operato con DIO»! Così il popolo salvò Gionathan, ed egli non morì.

46 A nd Saul goeth up from after the Philistines, and the Philistines have gone to their place;

Poi Saul tornò dall'inseguimento dei Filistei e i Filistei fecero ritorno al loro paese.

47 a nd Saul captured the kingdom over Israel, and he fighteth round about against all his enemies, against Moab, and against the Bene-Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines, and whithersoever he turneth he doth vex.

Così Saul consolidò il regno su Israele e fece guerra a tutti i suoi nemici tutt'intorno: a Moab, ai figli di Ammon a Edom, ai re di Tsobah e ai Filistei; ovunque si volgeva, vinceva.

48 A nd he maketh a force, and smiteth Amalek, and delivereth Israel out of the hand of its spoiler.

Compì imprese di valore, sconfisse gli Amalekiti e liberò Israele dalle mani di quelli che lo depredavano.

49 A nd the sons of Saul are Jonathan, and Ishui, and Melchi-Shua; as to the name of his two daughters, the name of the first-born Merab, and the name of the younger Michal;

I figli di Saul erano: Gionathan, Jishui e Malkishuah; e le sue due figlie si chiamavano: la primogenita Merab, e la minore Mikal.

50 a nd the name of the wife of Saul Ahinoam, daughter of Ahimaaz; and the name of the head of his host Abner son of Ner, uncle of Saul;

Il nome della moglie di Saul era Ahinoam, figlia di Ahimaaz. e il nome del capitano del suo esercito era Abner, figlio di Ner, zio di Saul.

51 a nd Kish father of Saul, and Ner father of Abner son of Ahiel.

Kish, padre di Saul, e Ner, padre di Abner, erano figli di Abiel.

52 A nd the war is severe against the Philistines all the days of Saul; when Saul hath seen any mighty man, and any son of valour, then he doth gather him unto himself.

Per tutta la vita di Saul vi fu una guerra spietata contro i Filistei; ogni uomo forte e ogni giovane valoroso che Saul vedeva, lo prendeva con sé.
