1 T o the Overseer. -- A Psalm of David. I have diligently expected Jehovah, And He inclineth to me, and heareth my cry,

«Al maestro del coro. Salmo di Davide.» ho fermamente e pazientemente aspettato l'Eterno, ed egli si è chinato su di me e ha ascoltato il mio grido.

2 A nd He doth cause me to come up From a pit of desolation -- from mire of mud, And He raiseth up on a rock my feet, He is establishing my steps.

Mi ha tratto fuori da una fossa di perdizione, dal fango della palude, ha stabilito i miei piedi su una roccia e ha reso saldi i miei passi.

3 A nd He putteth in my mouth a new song, `Praise to our God.' Many do see and fear, and trust in Jehovah.

Egli ha messo nella mia bocca un nuovo cantico a lode del nostro DIO; molti vedranno questo e tremeranno, e confideranno nell'Eterno.

4 O the happiness of the man Who hath made Jehovah his trust, And hath not turned unto the proud, And those turning aside to lies.

Beato l'uomo che ripone nell'Eterno la sua fiducia e non si rivolge ai superbi, né a quelli che si sviano dietro alla menzogna.

5 M uch hast Thou done, Jehovah my God; Thy wonders and Thy thoughts toward us, There is none to arrange unto Thee, I declare and speak: They have been more than to be numbered.

O Eterno, DIO mio, molte sono le meraviglie che hai fatto, e nessuno può enumerare le cose che hai ideato per noi. Se dovessi proclamarle e raccontarle, sarebbero troppe per elencarle.

6 S acrifice and present Thou hast not desired, Ears Thou hast prepared for me, Burnt and sin-offering Thou hast not asked.

Tu non prendi piacere né in sacrificio né in offerta; mi hai forato le orecchie. Tu non hai chiesto né olocausto né sacrificio per il peccato.

7 T hen said I, `Lo, I have come,' In the roll of the book it is written of me,

Allora ho detto: «Ecco io vengo, Nel rotolo del libro sta scritto di me.

8 T o do Thy pleasure, my God, I have delighted, And Thy law within my heart.

DIO mio, io prendo piacere nel fare la tua volontà, e la tua legge è dentro il mio cuore».

9 I have proclaimed tidings of righteousness In the great assembly, lo, my lips I restrain not, O Jehovah, Thou hast known.

Ho proclamato la tua giustizia nella grande assemblea; ecco, io non tengo chiuse le mie labbra, o Eterno, tu lo sai.

10 T hy righteousness I have not concealed In the midst of my heart, Thy faithfulness and Thy salvation I have told, I have not hidden Thy kindness and Thy truth, To the great assembly.

Non ho nascosto la tua giustizia nel mio cuore; ho annunziato la tua fedeltà e la tua salvezza, non ho nascosto la tua benignità né la tua verità alla grande assemblea.

11 T hou, O Jehovah, restrainest not Thy mercies from me, Thy kindness and Thy truth do continually keep me.

Non rifiutarmi, o Eterno, le tue tenere compassioni; la tua benignità e la tua verità mi custodiscano sempre.

12 F or compassed me have evils innumerable, Overtaken me have mine iniquities, And I have not been able to see; They have been more than the hairs of my head, And my heart hath forsaken me.

Poiché mali innumerevoli mi circondano; le mie iniquità mi hanno raggiunto e non posso vedere; sono piú numerosi dei capelli del mio capo, e il mio cuore vien meno.

13 B e pleased, O Jehovah, to deliver me, O Jehovah, for my help make haste.

Degnati, o Eterno, di liberarmi. O Eterno, affrettati in mio aiuto,

14 T hey are ashamed and confounded together, Who are seeking my soul to destroy it, They are turned backward, And are ashamed, who are desiring my evil.

Siano tutti svergognati e confusi quelli che cercano di distruggere la mia vita. Siano respinti coperti di vergogna quelli che godono delle mie sventure.

15 T hey are desolate because of their shame, Who are saying to me, `Aha, aha.'

Siano spaventati a loro vergogna quelli che mi dicono: «Ah, ah...!».

16 A ll seeking Thee rejoice and are glad in Thee, Those loving Thy salvation say continually, `Jehovah is magnified.'

Si rallegrino e gioiscano in te tutti quelli che ti cercano; quelli che amano la tua salvezza dicano sempre: «Magnificato sia l'Eterno»,

17 A nd I poor and needy, The Lord doth devise for me. My help and my deliverer Thou, O my God, tarry Thou not.

Quanto a me, io sono povero e bisognoso, ma il Signore ha cura di me. Tu sei il mio aiuto e il mio liberatore; DIO mio, non tardare.
