1 A nd it cometh to pass as David sat in his house, that David saith unto Nathan the prophet, `Lo, I am dwelling in a house of cedars, and the ark of the covenant of Jehovah under curtains;'

Or avvenne che Davide dopo che si era stabilito nella sua casa disse al profeta Nathan: «Ecco, io abito in una casa di cedro mentre l'arca del patto dell'Eterno si trova sotto una tenda».

2 a nd Nathan saith unto David, `All that in thy heart do, for God with thee.'

Nathan rispose a Davide: «Fa' tutto ciò che hai in cuore, perché Dio è con te».

3 A nd it cometh to pass on that night that a word of God is unto Nathan, saying,

Ma quella stessa notte la parola di DIO fu rivolta a Nathan, dicendo:

4 ` Go, and thou hast said unto David My servant, Thus said Jehovah, Thou dost not build for Me the house to dwell in:

«Va' a dire al mio servo Davide "Cosí dice l'Eterno: Non sarai tu a costruirmi una casa in cui possa dimorare.

5 f or I have not dwelt in a house from the day that I brought up Israel till this day, and I am from tent unto tent: and from the tabernacle,

Infatti non ho mai abitato in una casa dal giorno in cui feci uscire Israele dall'Egitto fino ad oggi; ma sono andato di tenda in tenda e da una dimora all'altra.

6 w hithersoever I have walked up and down among all Israel, a word spake I, with one of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed My people, saying, Why have ye not built for Me a house of cedars?

Dovunque sono andato con tutto Israele, ho io mai parlato ad alcuno dei giudici d'Israele, ai quali avevo comandato di pascere il mio popolo, dicendo: "Perché non mi costruite una casa di cedro?".

7 ` And now, thus dost thou say to My servant, to David, Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, I have taken thee from the habitation, from after the sheep, to be leader over My people Israel,

Ora dunque parlerai cosí al mio servo Davide: "Cosí dice l'Eterno degli eserciti: lo ti presi dall'ovile, mentre seguivi le pecore, per costituirti principe sul mio popolo Israele.

8 a nd I am with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and I cut off all thine enemies from thy presence, and have made for thee a name like the name of the great ones who in the earth.

Sono stato con te dovunque sei andato, ho sterminato davanti a te tutti i tuoi nemici e ho reso il tuo nome come quello dei grandi che sono sulla terra.

9 ` And I have prepared a place for My people Israel, and planted it, and it hath dwelt in its place, and is not troubled any more, and the sons of perverseness add not to wear it out as at first,

Inoltre assegnerò un posto al mio popolo Israele e lo pianterò perché abiti in casa sua e non sia piú sballottato, e i malvagi non continuino a devastarlo come prima,

10 y ea, even from the days that I appointed judges over My people Israel. `And I have humbled all thine enemies, and I declare to thee that a house doth Jehovah build for thee,

fin da quando ho stabilito i giudici sul mio popolo Israele, Umilierò pure tutti i tuoi nemici. Inoltre ti annunzio che l'Eterno ti costruirà una casa.

11 a nd it hath come to pass, when thy days have been fulfilled to go with thy fathers, that I have raised up thy seed after thee, who is of thy sons, and I have established his kingdom,

Quando i tuoi giorni si compiranno e tu andrai a raggiungere i tuoi padri, io farò sorgere un tuo discendente, che sarà uno dei tuoi figli, e consoliderò il suo regno.

12 h e doth build for Me a house, and I have established his throne unto the age;

Egli mi costruirà una casa e io renderò saldo il suo trono per sempre.

13 I am to him for a father, and he is to Me for a son, and My kindness I turn not aside from him as I turned it aside from him who was before thee,

lo sarò per lui un padre ed egli sarà per me un figlio; e non ritirerò da lui il mio favore come l'ho ritirato da colui che ti ha preceduto.

14 a nd I have established him in My house, and in My kingdom unto the age, and his throne is established unto the age.'

Io lo renderò saldo per sempre nella mia casa e nel mio regno, e il suo trono sarà reso stabile per sempre"».

15 A ccording to all these words, and according to all this vision, so spake Nathan unto David.

Nathan parlò a Davide, secondo tutte queste parole e secondo tutta questa visione.

16 A nd David the king cometh in and sitteth before Jehovah, and saith, `Who I, O Jehovah God, and what my house, that Thou hast brought me hitherto?

Allora il re Davide entrò, si sedette davanti all'Eterno e disse: «Chi sono io, o Eterno DIO, che cosa è la mia casa, perché tu mi abbia fatto arrivare fino qui?

17 A nd this is small in Thine eyes, O God, and Thou speakest concerning the house of thy servant afar off, and hast seen me as a type of the man who is on high, O Jehovah God!

Eppure questo è parso poca cosa ai tuoi occhi, o DIO; tu hai pure parlato della casa del tuo servo per un lontano avvenire e mi hai riguardato come se fossi un uomo di alto rango, o Eterno DIO.

18 ` What doth David add more unto Thee for the honour of Thy servant; and Thou Thy servant hast known.

Che cosa potrebbe ancora dirti Davide per l'onore fatto al tuo servo? Tu che conosci infatti il tuo servo.

19 O Jehovah, for Thy servant's sake, and according to Thine own heart Thou hast done all this greatness, to make known all these great things.

O Eterno, per amore del tuo servo secondo il tuo cuore, hai compiuto tutto queste opere potenti per far conoscere tutte queste grandi cose.

20 O Jehovah, there is none like Thee, and there is no god save Thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

O Eterno, nessuno è simile a te e non c'è altro DIO fuori di te, secondo tutto ciò che abbiamo udito con le nostre orecchie.

21 ` And who as Thy people Israel, one nation in the earth whom God hath gone to ransom to Him for a people, to make for Thee a name great and fearful, to cast out from the presence of Thy people whom Thou hast ransomed out of Egypt -- nations?

E chi è come il tuo popolo Israele l'unica nazione sulla terra che DIO sia venuto a redimere per farne il suo popolo, per farti un nome con cose grandi tremende, scacciando le nazioni davanti al tuo popolo che tu hai redento dall'Egitto?

22 Y ea, Thou dost appoint Thy people Israel to Thee for a people unto the age, and Thou, O Jehovah, hast been to them for God.

Tu hai fatto del tuo popolo Israele tuo proprio popolo per sempre; e tu, Eterno, sei divenuto il loro DIO.

23 ` And now, O Jehovah, the word that Thou hast spoken concerning Thy servant, and concerning his house, let be stedfast unto the age, and do as Thou hast spoken;

Or dunque, o Eterno, la parola che hai pronunciato riguardo al tuo servo alla sua casa rimanga stabile per sempre! Fa' come hai detto!

24 a nd let it be stedfast, and Thy name is great unto the age, saying, Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, is God to Israel, and the house of Thy servant David is established before Thee;

Sí, rimanga stabile, affinché il tuo nome sia magnificato per sempre e si possa dire: "L'Eterno degli eserciti, il DIO d'Israele, è veramente DIO per Israele"; e la casa del tuo servo Davide sia resa stabile davanti a te!

25 f or Thou, O my God, Thou hast uncovered the ear of Thy servant -- to build to him a house, therefore hath Thy servant found to pray before Thee.

Poiché tu stesso, o mio DIO, hai rivelato al tuo servo che gli avresti costruito una casa. Per questo il tuo servo ha trovato il coraggio di pregare alla tua presenza.

26 ` And now, Jehovah, Thou God Himself, and Thou speakest concerning Thy servant this goodness;

E ora, o Eterno, tu Sei DIO e hai promesso questo bene al tuo servo.

27 a nd now, Thou hast been pleased to bless the house of Thy servant, to be to the age before Thee; for Thou, O Jehovah, hast blessed, and it is blessed to the age.'

Pertanto ti piaccia di benedire la casa del tuo servo, perché sussista per sempre davanti a te, perché ciò che tu benedici, o Eterno, è benedetto per sempre».
