1 A son of eight years Josiah in his reigning, and thirty and one years he hath reigned in Jerusalem,

Giosia aveva otto anni quando iniziò a regnare, e regnò trentun anni a Gerusalemme.

2 a nd he doth that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah, and walketh in the ways of David his father, and hath not turned aside -- right or left.

Egli fece ciò che è giusto agli occhi dell'Eterno e seguí le vie di Davide, suo padre, senza deviare né a destra né a sinistra.

3 A nd in the eighth year of his reign (and he yet a youth), he hath begun to seek to the God of David his father, and in the twelfth year he hath begun to cleanse Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the shrines, and the graven images, and the molten images.

Nell'ottavo anno del suo regno, quando era ancora un ragazzo, cominciò a cercare il DIO di Davide, suo padre, e nel dodicesimo anno cominciò a purificare Giuda e Gerusalemme dagli alti luoghi, dagli Ascerim, dalle immagini scolpite e dalle immagini di metallo fuso.

4 A nd they break down before him the altars of the Baalim, and the images that on high above them he hath cut down, and the shrines, and the graven images, and the molten images, he hath broken and beaten small, and streweth on the surface of the graves of those sacrificing to them,

5 a nd the bones of the priests he hath burnt on their altars, and cleanseth Judah and Jerusalem,

6 a nd in the cities of Manasseh, and Ephraim, and Simeon, even unto Naphtali, with their tools, round about.

7 A nd he breaketh down the altars and the shrines, and the graven images he hath beaten down very small, and all the images he hath cut down in all the land of Israel, and turneth back to Jerusalem.

Cosí egli demolí gli altari e gli Ascerim, ridusse in polvere le immagini scolpite e abbattè tutti gli altari d'incenso in tutto il paese d'Israele, poi tornò a Gerusalemme.

8 A nd in the eighteenth year of his reign, to purify the land and the house he hath sent Shaphan son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah head of the city, and Joah son of Johaz the remembrancer, to strengthen the house of Jehovah his God.

Nell'anno diciottesimo del suo regno dopo aver purificato il paese e il tempio, mandò Shafan figlio di Atsaliah, Maaseiah governatore della città e Joah figlio di Joahaz, l'archivista, per restaurare la casa dell'Eterno, il suo DIO.

9 A nd they come in unto Hilkiah the high priest, and they give the money that is brought in to the house of God, that the Levites, keeping the threshold, have gathered from the hand of Manasseh, and Ephraim, and from all the remnant of Israel, and from all Judah, and Benjamin, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem,

Essi si recarono dal sommo sacerdote Hilkiah e consegnarono il denaro che era stato portato nella casa di DIO, che i Leviti, portinai avevano raccolto da Manasse, da Efraim, da tutto il resto d'Israele, da tutto Giuda e Beniamino e dagli abitanti di Gerusalemme.

10 a nd they give into the hand of the workmen, those appointed over the house of Jehovah, and they give it the workmen who are working in the house of Jehovah, to repair and to strengthen the house;

Quindi lo consegnarono nelle mani dei lavoratori incaricati della sorveglianza della casa dell'Eterno, i quali lo diedero agli operai che lavoravano nella casa dell'Eterno per riparare e restaurare il tempio.

11 a nd they give to artificers, and to builders, to buy hewn stones, and wood for couplings and for beams to the houses that the kings of Judah had destroyed.

12 A nd the men are working faithfully in the business, and over them are appointed Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathite, to overlook; and of the Levites, every one understanding about instruments of song,

Quegli uomini facevano il lavoro con fedeltà. I sorveglianti loro preposti erano Jahath e Obadiah, Leviti dei figli di Merari, e Zaccaria e Meshullam dei figli di Kehath, e tutti quelli dei Leviti che erano esperti in strumenti musicali.

13 a nd over the burden-bearers, and overseers of every one doing work for service and service; and of the Levites scribes, and officers, and gatekeepers.

Questi sorvegliavano pure i portatori di pesi e dirigevano tutti quelli che eseguivano lavori di qualsiasi genere; inoltre alcuni Leviti erano scribi, ispettori e portinai.

14 A nd in their bringing out the money that is brought in to the house of Jehovah, hath Hilkiah the priest found the book of the law of Jehovah by the hand of Moses,

Mentre si prelevava il denaro che era stato portato nella casa dell'Eterno, il sacerdote Hilkiah trovò il libro della Legge dell'Eterno, data per mezzo di Mosè.

15 a nd Hilkiah answereth and saith unto Shaphan the scribe, `A book of the law I have found in the house of Jehovah;' and Hilkiah giveth the book unto Shaphan,

Hilkiah prese allora la parola e disse al segretario Shafan: «Ho trovato nella casa dell'Eterno il libro della legge». Quindi Hilkiah diede il libro a Shafan.

16 a nd Shaphan bringeth in the book unto the king, and bringeth the king back word again, saying, `All that hath been given into the hand of thy servants they are doing,

17 a nd they pour out the money that is found in the house of Jehovah, and give it into the hand of those appointed, and into the hands of those doing the work.'

18 A nd Shaphan the scribe declareth to the king, saying, `A book hath Hilkiah the priest given to me;' and Shaphan readeth in it before the king.

19 A nd it cometh to pass, at the king's hearing the words of the law, that he rendeth his garments,

20 a nd the king commandeth Hilkiah, and Ahikam son of Shaphan, and Abdon son of Micah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah, servant of the king, saying,

Poi il re diede quest'ordine a Hilkiah, ad Ahikam figlio di Shafan, ad Abdon figlio di Mikah, a Shafan il segretario e ad Asaiah servo del re, dicendo:

21 ` Go, seek Jehovah for me, and for him who is left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found, for great the fury of Jehovah that is poured on us, because that our fathers kept not the word of Jehovah, to do according to all that is written on this book.'

«Andate a consultare l'Eterno per me e per quelli che sono rimasti in Israele e in Giuda, circa le parole del libro, che è stato trovato; grande infatti è l'ira dell'Eterno che si è riversata su di noi, perché i nostri padri non hanno osservato la parola dell'Eterno, agendo interamente secondo quanto è scritto in questo libro».

22 A nd Hilkiah goeth, and they of the king, unto Huldah the prophetess, wife of Shallum son of Tikvath, son of Hasrah, keeper of the garments, and she is dwelling in Jerusalem in the Second, and they speak unto her thus.

Cosí Hilkiah e quelli che il re aveva designato andarono dalla profetessa Huldah, moglie di Shallum, figlio di Tokhath, figlio di Hasrah, il guardarobiere; (essa abitava a Gerusalemme nel secondo quartiere), e le parlarono in merito a ciò.

23 A nd she saith to them, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Say to the man who hath sent you unto me,

Ella rispose loro: «Cosí dice l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele: Riferite a colui che vi ha mandati da me:

24 T hus said Jehovah, Lo, I am bringing in evil on this place, and on its inhabitants, all the execrations that are written on the book that they read before the king of Judah;

Così dice l'Eterno: "Ecco, io farò venire una sciagura su questo luogo e sui suoi abitanti, tutte le maledizioni che sono scritte nel libro, che hanno letto davanti al re di Giuda.

25 b ecause that they have forsaken Me, and make perfume to other gods, so as to provoke Me with all the works of their hands, and poured out is My fury upon this place, and it is not quenched.

Poiché mi hanno abbandonato e hanno offerto incenso ad altri dèi per provocarmi ad ira con tutte le opere delle loro mani, la mia ira si riverserà su questo luogo e non si estinguerà".

26 ` And unto the king of Judah, who is sending you to inquire of Jehovah, thus do ye say unto him: Thus said Jehovah God of Israel, whose words thou hast heard:

Invece al re di Giuda che vi ha mandati a consultare l'Eterno, riferite questo: Cosí dice l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele, circa le parole che hai udito:

27 B ecause thy heart tender, and thou art humbled before God in thy hearing His words concerning this place, and concerning its inhabitants, and art humbled before Me, and dost rend thy garments, and weep before Me: even I also have heard -- the affirmation of Jehovah.

Poiché il tuo cuore si è intenerito, poiché ti sei umiliato davanti a DIO, udendo le sue parole contro questo luogo e contro i suoi abitanti, ti sei umiliato davanti a me, ti sei stracciato le vesti e hai pianto davanti a me, anch'io ti ho ascoltato", dice l'Eterno.

28 L o, I am gathering thee unto thy fathers, and thou hast been gathered unto thy graves in peace, and thine eyes do not look on all the evil that I am bringing upon this place, and upon its inhabitants;' and they bring the king back word.

"Ecco, io ti riunirò ai tuoi padri, e sarai deposto in pace nel tuo sepolcro; i tuoi occhi non vedranno tutto il male che io farò venire su questo luogo e sui suoi abitanti"». Quelli riferirono il messaggio al re.

29 A nd the king sendeth and gathereth all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem,

Allora il re mandò a far radunare presso di sé tutti gli anziani di Giuda e di Gerusalemme.

30 a nd the king goeth up to the house of Jehovah, and every man of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, even all the people, from great even unto small, and he readeth in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that is found in the house of Jehovah.

Il re salí quindi alla casa dell'Eterno con tutti gli uomini di Giuda, tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme, i sacerdoti, i Leviti, e tutto il popolo, dal piú piccolo al piú grande, e lesse alla loro presenza tutte le parole del libro del patto, che era stato trovato nella casa dell'Eterno.

31 A nd the king standeth on his station, and maketh the covenant before Jehovah, to walk after Jehovah, and to keep His commands, and His testimonies, and His statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to do the words of the covenant that are written on this book.

Poi il re, stando in piedi sul palco fece un patto davanti all'Eterno, impegnandosi a seguire l'Eterno e a osservare i suoi comandamenti, i suoi precetti e i suoi statuti con tutto il cuore e con tutta l'anima, per mettere in pratica le parole del patto scritte in quel libro.

32 A nd he presenteth every one who is found in Jerusalem and Benjamin, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem do according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.

E vi fece aderire tutti quelli che si trovavano a Gerusalemme e in Beniamino; gli abitanti di Gerusalemme agirono in conformità al patto di DIO, il DIO dei loro padri.

33 A nd Josiah turneth aside all the abominations out of all the lands that the sons of Israel have, and causeth every one who is found in Israel to serve, to serve Jehovah their God; all his days they turned not aside from after Jehovah, God of their fathers.

Cosí Giosia fece sparire tutte le abominazioni da tutti i paesi che appartenevano ai figli d'Israele e costrinse tutti quelli che si trovavano in Israele a servire l'Eterno, il loro DIO. Durante tutta la sua vita essi non smisero di seguire l'Eterno, il DIO dei loro padri.
