1 A nd it cometh to pass in those days, that the Philistines gather their camps for the war, to fight against Israel, and Achish saith unto David, `Thou dost certainly know that with me thou dost go out into the camp, thou and thy men.'

In quei giorni i Filistei radunarono i loro eserciti per far guerra ad Israele. Allora Akish disse a Davide: «Sappi bene che dovrai uscire a combattere con me, tu e i tuoi uomini».

2 A nd David saith unto Achish, `Therefore -- thou dost know that which thy servant dost do.' And Achish saith unto David, `Therefore -- keeper of my head I do appoint thee all the days.'

Davide rispose ad Akish: «Tu certamente vedrai ciò che il tuo servo farà». Allora Akish disse a Davide: «Ebbene, io ti farò mia guardia del corpo per sempre».

3 A nd Samuel hath died, and all Israel mourn for him, and bury him in Ramah, even in his city, and Saul hath turned aside those having familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land.

Or Samuele era morto e tutto Israele l'aveva pianto, e lo avevano sepolto in Ramah sua città. E Saul aveva scacciato dal paese i medium e gl'indovini.

4 A nd the Philistines are gathered, and come in, and encamp in Shunem, and Saul gathereth all Israel, and they encamp in Gilboa,

Così i Filistei si radunarono e vennero ad accamparsi a Shunem, mentre Saul radunò tutto Israele e si accampò a Ghilboa.

5 a nd Saul seeth the camp of the Philistines, and feareth, and his heart trembleth greatly,

Quando Saul vide l'esercito dei Filistei ebbe paura e il suo cuore tremò forte.

6 a nd Saul asketh at Jehovah, and Jehovah hath not answered him, either by dreams, or by Urim, or by prophets.

Così Saul consultò l'Eterno, ma l'Eterno non gli rispose né attraverso sogni né mediante l'Urim né per mezzo dei profeti.

7 A nd Saul saith to his servants, `Seek for me a woman possessing a familiar spirit, and I go unto her, and inquire of her;' and his servants say unto him, `Lo, a woman possessing a familiar spirit in En-dor.'

Allora Saul disse ai suoi servi: «Cercatemi una donna che sia una medium perché possa andare da lei per consultarla». I suoi servi gli dissero: «Ecco a En-Dor c'è una donna che è una medium».

8 A nd Saul disguiseth himself and putteth on other garments, and goeth, he and two of the men with him, and they come in unto the woman by night, and he saith, `Divine, I pray thee, to me by the familiar spirit, and cause to come up to me him whom I say unto thee.'

Così Saul si travestì indossando altri abiti e partì con due uomini. Giunsero dalla donna di notte e Saul le disse: «Pratica la divinazione per me ti prego, con una seduta spiritica e fammi salire colui che ti dirò».

9 A nd the woman saith unto him, `Lo, thou hast known that which Saul hath done, that he hath cut off those having familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land; and why art thou laying a snare for my soul -- to put me to death?'

La donna gli rispose: «Ecco tu sai ciò che Saul ha fatto: egli ha sterminato dal paese i medium e i maghi. Perché dunque tendi un laccio alla mia vita per farmi morire?».

10 A nd Saul sweareth to her by Jehovah, saying, `Jehovah liveth, punishment doth not meet thee for this thing.'

Allora Saul le giurò per l'Eterno, dicendo: «Com'è vero che l'Eterno vive nessuna punizione ti toccherà per questo!»

11 A nd the woman saith, `Whom do I bring up to thee?' and he saith, `Samuel -- bring up to me.'

La donna gli disse: «Chi devo farti salire?». Egli disse: «Fammi salire Samuele».

12 A nd the woman seeth Samuel, and crieth with a loud voice, and the woman speaketh unto Saul, saying, `Why hast thou deceived me -- and thou Saul?'

Quando la donna vide Samuele gridò ad alta voce; e la donna disse a Saul: «Perché mi hai ingannata? Tu sei Saul!»

13 A nd the king saith to her, `Do not fear; for what hast thou seen?' and the woman saith unto Saul, `Gods I have seen coming up out of the earth.'

Il re le rispose: «Non aver paura, che cosa vedi?». La donna disse a Saul: «Vedo un essere sovrumano che sale dalla terra».

14 A nd he saith to her, `What his form?' and she saith, `An aged man is coming up, and he covered with an upper robe;' and Saul knoweth that he Samuel, and boweth -- face to thee earth -- and doth obeisance.

Egli le domandò: «Che forma ha?». Ella rispose: «è un vecchio che sale ed è avvolto in un mantello». Allora Saul comprese che era Samuele, si piegò con la faccia a terra e si prostrò.

15 A nd Samuel saith unto Saul, `Why hast thou troubled me, to bring me up?' And Saul saith, `I have great distress, and the Philistines are fighting against me, God hath turned aside from me, and hath not answered me any more, either by the hand of the prophets, or by dreams; and I call for thee to let me know what I do.'

Samuele disse a Saul: «Perché mi hai tu disturbato, facendomi salire?». Saul rispose: «Mi trovo in una grande angustia, perché i Filistei mi fanno guerra e DIO si è allontanato da me, e non mi risponde più né mediante i profeti né attraverso i sogni; perciò, ti ho chiamato perché tu mi faccia sapere cosa devo fare».

16 A nd Samuel saith, `And why dost thou ask me, and Jehovah hath turned aside from thee, and is thine enemy?

Samuele disse: «Perché consulti me, se l'Eterno si è allontanato da te ed è divenuto tuo nemico?

17 A nd Jehovah doth for Himself as He hath spoken by my hand, and Jehovah rendeth the kingdom out of thy hand, and giveth it to thy neighbour -- to David.

L'Eterno ha fatto come aveva detto per mezzo mio. L'Eterno ha strappato dalle tue mani il regno e lo ha dato a un altro, a Davide.

18 B ecause thou hast not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah, nor didst the fierceness of His anger on Amalek -- therefore this thing hath Jehovah done to thee this day;

perché non hai ubbidito alla voce dell'Eterno e non hai portato ad effetto la sua ardente ira contro Amalek; per questo l'Eterno oggi ti ha fatto questo.

19 y ea, Jehovah giveth also Israel with thee into the hand of the Philistines, and tomorrow thou and thy sons with me; also the camp of Israel doth Jehovah give into the hand of the Philistines.'

L'Eterno darà anche Israele con te nelle mani dei Filistei; domani tu e i tuoi figli sarete con me. L'Eterno darà pure l'esercito d'Israele nelle mani dei Filistei».

20 A nd Saul hasteth and falleth -- the fulness of his stature -- to the earth, and feareth greatly because of the words of Samuel; also power was not in him, for he had not eaten bread all the day, and all the night.

Allora Saul cadde subito lungo disteso per terra, perché grandemente spaventato dalle parole di Samuele; egli era già senza forze. perché non aveva preso cibo tutto quel giorno e tutta quella notte.

21 A nd the woman cometh in unto Saul, and seeth that he hath been greatly troubled, and saith unto him, `Lo, thy maid-servant hath hearkened to thy voice, and I put my soul in my hand, and I obey thy words which thou hast spoken unto me;

La donna si avvicinò a Saul e vedendolo tutto terrorizzato, gli disse: «Ecco, la tua serva ha ubbidito alla tua voce; io ho messo in pericolo la mia vita per ubbidire alle parole che mi hai detto.

22 a nd now, hearken, I pray thee, also thou, to the voice of thy maid-servant, and I set before thee a morsel of bread, and eat, and there is in thee power when thou goest in the way.'

Or dunque ascolta anche tu la voce della tua serva e lascia che ti metta davanti un boccone di pane; mangia, così riprenderai forza per rimetterti in cammino».

23 A nd he refuseth, and saith, `I do not eat;' and his servants urge on him, and also the woman, and he hearkeneth to their voice, and riseth from the earth, and sitteth on the bed.

Ma egli rifiutò e disse: «Non mangerò». I suoi servi però, insieme alla donna, insistettero ed egli li ascoltò; così si alzò da terra e si pose a sedere sul letto.

24 A nd the woman hath a calf of the stall in the house, and she hasteth and slaughtereth it, and taketh flour, and kneadeth, and baketh it unleavened things,

La donna aveva in casa un vitello ingrassato; lo uccise in fretta, poi prese la farina la impastò e ne fece dei pani senza lievito.

25 a nd bringeth nigh before Saul, and before his servants, and they eat, and rise, and go on, during that night.

Mise questi cibi davanti a Saul e ai suoi servi, ed essi mangiarono; poi si levarono e ripartirono quella stessa notte.
