1 A nd Athaliah mother of Ahaziah, and she hath seen that her son dead, and she riseth, and destroyeth all the seed of the kingdom;

2 a nd Jehosheba daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, taketh Joash son of Ahaziah, and stealeth him out of the midst of the sons of the king who are put to death, him and his nurse, in the inner part of the bed-chambers, and they hide him from the presence of Athaliah, and he hath not been put to death,

Ma Jehosceba, figlia del re Joram e sorella di Achaziah, prese Joas, figlio di Achaziah, lo trafugò di mezzo ai figli del re che erano uccisi e lo mise con la nutrice nella camera dei letti; cosí lo nascosero ad Athaliah e non fu ucciso.

3 a nd he is with her, in the house of Jehovah, hiding himself, six years, and Athaliah is reigning over the land.

Rimase quindi nascosto con lei per sei anni nella casa dell'Eterno, mentre Athaliah regnava sul paese.

4 A nd in the seventh year hath Jehoiada sent and taketh the heads of the hundreds, of the executioners and of the runners, and bringeth them in unto him, to the house of Jehovah, and maketh with them a covenant, and causeth them to swear in the house of Jehovah, and sheweth them the son of the king,

Il settimo anno Jehoiada mandò a chiamare i capi di centinaia delle guardie del corpo e delle guardie e li fece venire presso di sé nella casa dell'Eterno; egli stipulò con loro un patto, li fece giurare nella casa dell'Eterno e mostrò loro il figlio del re.

7 a nd two parts of you, all going out on the sabbath -- they have kept the charge of the house of Jehovah about the king,

Le altre due parti di voi, tutti quelli cioè che escono di servizio il giorno di sabato, staranno di guardia alla casa dell'Eterno attorno al re.

8 a nd ye have compassed the king round about, each with his weapons in his hand, and he who is coming unto the ranges is put to death; and be ye with the king in his going out and in his coming in.'

Voi vi metterete tutt'intorno al re, ognuno con le sue armi in mano; e chiunque cercherà di penetrare tra le vostre file sia messo a morte. Voi rimarrete col re sia quando esce che quando entra».

9 A nd the heads of the hundreds do according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded, and take each his men going in on the sabbath, with those going out on the sabbath, and come in unto Jehoiada the priest,

Cosí i capi di centinaia fecero esattamente come il sacerdote Jehoiada aveva comandato. Ciascuno prese i suoi uomini, quelli che entravano in servizio il giorno di sabato e quelli che uscivano di servizio il giorno di sabato, e andarono dal sacerdote Jehoiada.

10 a nd the priest giveth to the heads of the hundreds the spears and the shields that king David had, that in the house of Jehovah.

Il sacerdote diede ai capi di centinaia le lance e gli scudi che erano appartenuti al re Davide e che erano nella casa dell'Eterno.

11 A nd the runners stand, each with his weapons in his hand, from the right shoulder of the house unto the left shoulder of the house, by the altar and by the house, by the king round about;

Le guardie, ognuna con le sue armi in pugno, si disposero dal lato sud del tempio, fino al lato nord del tempio, vicino all'altare e vicino al tempio, tutt'intorno al re.

12 a nd he bringeth out the son of the king, and putteth on him the crown, and the testimony, and they make him king, and anoint him, and smite the hand, and say, `Let the king live.'

Poi Jehoiada condusse fuori il figlio del re, gli pose in testa il diadema e gli consegnò la legge. Lo proclamarono re e lo unsero; quindi batterono le mani e esclamarono: «Viva il re!».

13 A nd Athaliah heareth the voice of the runners of the people, and she cometh in unto the people, to the house of Jehovah,

Quando Athaliah udí il rumore delle guardie e del popolo, andò verso il popolo nella casa dell'Eterno.

14 a nd looketh, and lo, the king is standing by the pillar, according to the ordinance, and the heads, and the trumpets, by the king, and all the people of the land are rejoicing, and blowing with trumpets, and Athaliah rendeth her garments, and calleth, `Conspiracy! conspiracy!'

Guardò e vide il re in piedi sul palco, secondo l'usanza; i capitani e trombettieri erano accanto al re, mentre tutto il popolo del paese era in festa e suonava le trombe. Allora Athaliah si stracciò le vesti e gridò: «Tradimento, tradimento!».

15 A nd Jehoiada the priest commandeth the heads of the hundreds, inspectors of the force, and saith unto them, `Bring her out unto the outside of the ranges, and him who is going after her, put to death by the sword:' for the priest had said, `Let her not be put to death in the house of Jehovah.'

Ma il sacerdote Jehoiada ordinò ai capi di centinaia, che comandavano l'esercito, e disse loro: «Fatela uscire di mezzo alle file, e chiunque la segue sia ucciso di spada!». Il sacerdote infatti aveva detto: «Non permettete che sia uccisa nella casa dell'Eterno».

16 A nd they make for her sides, and she entereth the way of the entering in of the horses to the house of the king, and is put to death there.

Cosí essi la afferrarono e, come ella giunse alla casa del re per la strada della porta dei cavalli, là fu uccisa.

17 A nd Jehoiada maketh the covenant between Jehovah and the king and the people, to be for a people to Jehovah, and between the king and the people.

Poi Jehoiada fece un patto tra l'Eterno, il re e il popolo, perché Israele fosse il popolo dell'Eterno; fece pure un patto fra il re e il popolo.

18 A nd all the people of the land go in to the house of Baal, and break it down, its altars and its images they have thoroughly broken, and Mattan priest of Baal they have slain before the altars; and the priest setteth inspectors over the house of Jehovah,

19 a nd taketh the heads of the hundreds, and the executioners, and the runners, and all the people of the land, and they bring down the king from the house of Jehovah, and come by the way of the gate of the runners, to the house of the king, and he sitteth on the throne of the kings.

20 A nd all the people of the land rejoice, and the city quiet, and Athaliah they have put to death by the sword in the house of the king;
