1 T he children! obey your parents in the Lord, for this is righteous;

Figli, ubbidite nel Signore ai vostri genitori, perché ciò è giusto.

2 h onour thy father and mother,

«Onora tuo padre e tua madre», questo è il primo comandamento con promessa,

3 w hich is the first command with a promise, `That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live a long time upon the land.'

«affinché tu stia bene e abbia lunga vita sopra la terra».

4 A nd the fathers! provoke not your children, but nourish them in the instruction and admonition of the Lord.

E voi, padri, non provocate ad ira i vostri figli, ma allevateli nella disciplina e nell'ammonizione del Signore.

5 T he servants! obey the masters according to the flesh with fear and trembling, in the simplicity of your heart, as to the Christ;

Servi, ubbidite ai vostri padroni secondo la carne con timore e tremore, nella semplicità del vostro cuore, come a Cristo,

6 n ot with eye-service as men-pleasers, but as servants of the Christ, doing the will of God out of soul,

non servendo per essere visti, come per piacere agli uomini, ma come servi di Cristo, facendo la volontà di Dio di buon animo,

7 w ith good-will serving, as to the Lord, and not to men,

servendo con amore, come a Cristo e non come agli uomini,

8 h aving known that whatever good thing each one may do, this he shall receive from the Lord, whether servant or freeman.

sapendo che ciascuno, schiavo o libero che sia, se avrà fatto del bene, ne riceverà la ricompensa dal Signore.

9 A nd the masters! the same things do ye unto them, letting threatening alone, having known that also your Master is in the heavens, and acceptance of persons is not with him.

E voi, padroni, fate lo stesso verso di loro, mettendo da parte le minacce, sapendo che il loro e vostro Signore è in cielo e che presso di lui non c'è alcuna parzialità,

10 A s to the rest, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might;

Del resto, fratelli miei, fortificatevi nel Signore e nella forza della sua potenza.

11 p ut on the whole armour of God, for your being able to stand against the wiles of the devil,

Rivestitevi dell'intera armatura di Dio per poter rimanere ritti e saldi contro le insidie del diavolo

12 b ecause we have not the wrestling with blood and flesh, but with the principalities, with the authorities, with the world-rulers of the darkness of this age, with the spiritual things of the evil in the heavenly places;

poiché il nostro combattimento non è contro sangue e carne, ma contro i principati, contro le potestà, contro i dominatori del mondo di tenebre di questa età, contro gli spiriti malvagi nei luoghi celesti.

13 b ecause of this take ye up the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to resist in the day of the evil, and all things having done -- to stand.

Perciò prendete l'intera armatura di Dio, affinché possiate resistere nel giorno malvagio e restare ritti in piedi dopo aver compiuto ogni cosa.

14 S tand, therefore, having your loins girt about in truth, and having put on the breastplate of the righteousness,

State dunque saldi, avendo ai lombi la cintura della verità, rivestiti con la corazza della giustizia,

15 a nd having the feet shod in the preparation of the good-news of the peace;

e avendo i piedi calzati con la prontezza dell'evangelo della pace,

16 a bove all, having taken up the shield of the faith, in which ye shall be able all the fiery darts of the evil one to quench,

soprattutto prendendo lo scudo della fede, con il quale potete spegnere tutti i dardi infuocati del maligno.

17 a nd the helmet of the salvation receive, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the saying of God,

Prendete anche l'elmo della salvezza e la spada dello Spirito, che è la parola di Dio,

18 t hrough all prayer and supplication praying at all times in the Spirit, and in regard to this same, watching in all perseverance and supplication for all the saints --

pregando in ogni tempo con ogni sorta di preghiera e di supplica nello Spirito, vegliando a questo scopo con ogni perseveranza e preghiera per tutti i santi,

19 a nd in behalf of me, that to me may be given a word in the opening of my mouth, in freedom, to make known the secret of the good news,

e anche per me affinché, quando apro la mia bocca, mi sia dato di esprimermi con franchezza per far conoscere il mistero dell'evangelo

20 f or which I am an ambassador in a chain, that in it I may speak freely -- as it behoveth me to speak.

per il quale sono ambasciatore in catene, affinché lo possa annunziare con franchezza, come è mio dovere fare.

21 A nd that ye may know -- ye also -- the things concerning me -- what I do, all things make known to you shall Tychicus, the beloved brother and faithful ministrant in the Lord,

Ora, affinché anche voi sappiate come sto e ciò che faccio, Tichico, il caro fratello e fedele ministro nel Signore, vi informerà di tutto;

22 w hom I did send unto you for this very thing, that ye might know the things concerning us, and that he might comfort your hearts.

ve l'ho mandato proprio a questo scopo, affinché veniate a conoscenza del nostro stato e consoli i vostri cuori.

23 P eace to the brethren, and love, with faith, from God the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ!

Pace ai fratelli e amore con fede da Dio Padre e dal Signore Gesú Cristo.

24 T he grace with all those loving our Lord Jesus Christ -- undecayingly! Amen.
