1 T hus said Jehovah: The heavens My throne, And the earth My footstool, Where this -- the house that ye build for Me? And where this -- the place -- My rest?

Cosí dice l'Eterno: «Il cielo è il mio trono e la terra è lo sgabello dei miei piedi. Dov'è dunque la casa che mi potreste edificare e dov'è il luogo del mio riposo?

2 A nd all these My hand hath made, And all these things are, An affirmation of Jehovah! And unto this one I look attentively, Unto the humble and bruised in spirit, And who is trembling at My word.

Tutte queste cose le ha fatte la mia mano e tutte quante sono venute all'esistenza, dice l'Eterno. Su chi dunque volgerò lo sguardo? Su chi è umile, ha lo spirito contrito e trema alla mia parola.

3 W hoso slaughtereth the ox smiteth a man, Whoso sacrificeth the lamb beheadeth a dog, Whoso is bringing up a present -- The blood of a sow, Whoso is making mention of frankincense, Is blessing iniquity. Yea, they have fixed on their own ways, And in their abominations their soul hath delighted.

Chi immola un bue è come se uccidesse un uomo, chi sacrifica un agnello è come se rompesse il collo a un cane chi presenta un'oblazione di cibo è come se offrisse sangue di porco, chi brucia incenso è come se benedicesse un idolo. Come costoro hanno scelto le loro vie e la loro anima prende piacere nelle loro abominazioni,

4 I also -- I fix on their vexations, And their fears I bring in to them, Because I have called, and there is none answering, I spake, and they have not hearkened, And they do the evil things in Mine eyes, And on that which I desired not -- fixed.

cosí anch'io sceglierò la loro sventura e farò cadere su di essi ciò che temono; poiché quando ho chiamato, nessuno ha risposto, quando ho parlato, essi non hanno ascoltato; invece hanno fatto ciò che è male ai miei occhi e hanno preferito ciò che mi dispiace.

5 H ear a word of Jehovah, Ye who are trembling unto His word, Said have your brethren who are hating you, Who are driving you out, for My name's sake: `Honoured is Jehovah, and we look on your joy,' But they are ashamed.

Ascoltate la parola dell'Eterno, voi che tremate alla sua parola. I vostri fratelli, che vi odiano e vi scacciano a motivo del mio nome, hanno detto: "Mostri l'Eterno la sua gloria affinché noi possiamo vedere la vostra gioia" Ma essi saranno confusi».

6 A voice of noise from the city, a voice from the temple, The voice of Jehovah, giving recompence to His enemies.

Una voce, un frastuono esce dalla città, una voce viene dal tempio; è la voce dell'Eterno che dà la retribuzione ai suoi nemici.

7 B efore she is pained she hath brought forth, Before a pang cometh to her, She hath delivered a male.

Prima di provare le doglie di parto ella ha partorito; prima che le venissero i dolori, ha dato alla luce un maschio.

8 W ho hath heard anything like this? Who hath seen anything like these? Is earth caused to bring forth in one day? Born is a nation at once? For she hath been pained, Zion also hath borne her sons.

Chi ha mai udito una cosa simile, chi ha mai visto cose come queste? Nasce forse un paese in un sol giorno o una nazione viene forse alla luce in un istante? Ma Sion, appena ha sentito le doglie, ha partorito i suoi figli.

9 ` Do I bring to the birth, And not cause to bring forth?' saith Jehovah, `Am not I He who is causing to beget? I have also restrained,' said thy God.

«Porterei forse al momento della nascita senza far partorire?». dice l'Eterno. «Io che faccio partorire chiuderei forse il seno materno?», dice il tuo DIO.

10 R ejoice ye with Jerusalem, And be glad in her, all ye loving her, Rejoice ye with her for joy, All ye are mourning for her,

Rallegratevi con Gerusalemme ed esultate con lei, voi tutti che l'amate. Gioite grandemente con lei voi tutti che siete in lutto per lei,

11 S o that ye suck, and have been satisfied, From the breast of her consolations, So that ye wring out, and have delighted yourselves From the abundance of her honour.

affinché siate allattati e saziati al seno delle sue consolazioni, affinché possiate bere copiosamente e deliziarvi con l'abbondanza della sua gloria.

12 F or thus said Jehovah: `Lo, I am stretching out to her peace as a river, And as an overflowing stream the honour of nations, And ye have sucked, on the side ye are carried, And on the knees ye are dandled.

Poiché cosí dice l'Eterno: «Ecco, io farò giungere a lei la pace come un fiume e la ricchezza delle nazioni come un torrente che straripa, e voi sarete allattati, sarete portati sui suoi fianchi e accarezzati sulle sue ginocchia.

13 A s one whom his mother comforteth, so do I comfort you, Yea, in Jerusalem ye are comforted.

Come una madre consola il proprio figlio, cosí io consolerò voi e sarete consolati in Gerusalemme.

14 A nd ye have seen, and rejoiced hath your heart, And your bones as tender grass do flourish, And the hand of Jehovah hath been known unto His servants, And He hath been indignant with His enemies.

Voi vedrete questo, e il vostro cuore gioirà, le vostre ossa riprenderanno vigore come l'erba fresca. La mano dell'Eterno si farà conoscere ai suoi servi e si adirerà grandemente contro i suoi nemici».

15 F or, lo, Jehovah in fire cometh, And as a hurricane His chariots, To refresh in fury His anger, And His rebuke in flames of fire.

Poiché ecco, l'Eterno verrà col fuoco, e i suoi carri saranno come un uragano per riversare la sua ira con furore e la sua minaccia con fiamme di fuoco.

16 F or by fire and by His sword, Doth Jehovah do judgment with all flesh. And many have been Jehovah's pierced ones.'

Poiché l'Eterno farà giustizia con il fuoco e con la sua spada contro ogni carne; e gli uccisi dall'Eterno saranno molti.

17 T hose sanctifying and cleansing themselves at the gardens, After Ahad in the midst, Eating flesh of the sow, And of the abomination, and of the mouse, Together are consumed, An affirmation of Jehovah.

«Quelli che si santificano e si purificano per andare nei giardini, dietro un idolo che sta nel mezzo, quelli che mangiano carne di porco, cose abominevoli e topi, saranno tutti quanti consumati» dice l'Eterno.

18 A nd I -- their works and their thoughts, I come to gather all the nations and tongues, And they have come and seen My honour.

«Io conosco le loro opere e i loro pensieri; sta per giungere il tempo in cui raccoglierò tutte le nazioni e tutte le lingue; esse verranno e vedranno la mia gloria.

19 A nd I have set among them a sign, And have sent out of them those escaping unto the nations, (Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, drawing bow, Tubal and Javan, the isles that are far off,) Who have not heard My fame, nor seen Mine honour, And they have declared Mine honour among nations.

Io porrò un segno nel loro mezzo e manderò alcuni dei loro superstiti alle nazioni: a Tarshish, a Pul e a Lud, che tirano l'arco, a Tubal e a Javan, alle isole lontane che non hanno udito la mia fama e non hanno visto la mia gloria; essi proclameranno la mia gloria fra le nazioni,

20 A nd they have brought all your brethren out of all the nations, A present to Jehovah, On horses, and on chariot, and on litters, And on mules, and on dromedaries, Unto My holy mountain Jerusalem, said Jehovah, As the sons of Israel bring the present in a clean vessel, Into the house of Jehovah.

e ricondurranno tutti i vostri fratelli da tutte le nazioni come un'offerta all'Eterno, su cavalli, su carri, su portantine, su muli e su dromedari al mio santo monte di Gerusalemme», dice l'Eterno. «come i figli d'Israele, portano un'offerta in un vaso puro nella casa dell'Eterno.

21 A nd also of them I take for priests, For Levites, said Jehovah.

Prenderò pure alcuni di essi per sacerdoti e per Leviti», dice l'Eterno.

22 F or, as the new heavens and the new earth that I am making, Are standing before Me, An affirmation of Jehovah! So remain doth your seed and your name.

«Poiché come i nuovi cieli e la nuova terra che io farò sussisteranno stabili davanti a me», dice l'Eterno, «cosí sussisteranno la vostra progenie e il vostro nome.

23 A nd it hath been from month to month, And from sabbath to sabbath, Come do all flesh to bow themselves before Me, Said Jehovah.

E avverrà che di novilunio in novilunio e di sabato in sabato ogni carne verrà a prostrarsi davanti a me», dice l'Eterno.

24 A nd they have gone forth, And looked on the carcases of the men Who are transgressing against me, For their worm dieth not, And their fire is not quenched, And they have been an abhorrence to all flesh!

«Quando essi usciranno, vedranno i cadaveri degli uomini che si sono ribellati contro di me; poiché il loro verme non morirà e il loro fuoco non si estinguerà, e saranno in orrore ad ogni carne».
