1 A nd it cometh to pass, at Jehovah's taking up Elijah in a whirlwind to the heavens, that Elijah goeth, and Elisha, from Gilgal,

Ora, quando l'Eterno volle portare in cielo Elia in un turbine, Elia partí da Ghilgal con Eliseo.

2 a nd Elijah saith unto Elisha, `Abide, I pray thee, here, for Jehovah hath sent me unto Beth-El;' and Elisha saith, `Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, if I leave thee;' and they go down to Beth-El.

Allora Elia disse ad Eliseo: «Fermati qui, ti prego, perché l'Eterno mi manda fino a Bethel». Ma Eliseo rispose: «Come è vero che l'Eterno vive e che tu stesso vivi, io non ti lascerò». Cosí discesero a Bethel.

3 A nd sons of the prophets who in Beth-El come out unto Elisha, and say unto him, `Hast thou known that to-day Jehovah is taking thy lord from thy head?' and he saith, `I also have known -- keep silent.'

I discepoli dei profeti che erano a Bethel andarono quindi a trovare Eliseo e gli dissero: «Sai che l'Eterno quest'oggi porterà via il tuo signore al di sopra di te?». Quegli rispose: «Sí, lo so; tacete!».

4 A nd Elijah saith to him, `Elisha, abide, I pray thee, here, for Jehovah hath sent me to Jericho;' and he saith, `Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, if I leave thee;' and they come in to Jericho.

Poi Elia gli disse: «Eliseo, fermati qui, ti prego, perché l'Eterno mi manda a Gerico». Egli rispose: «Come è vero che l'Eterno vive e che tu stesso vivi, io non ti lascerò». Cosí discesero a Gerico.

5 A nd sons of the prophets who in Jericho come nigh unto Elisha, and say unto him, `Hast thou known that to-day Jehovah is taking thy lord from thy head?' and he saith, `I also have known -- keep silent.'

Allora i discepoli dei profeti che erano a Gerico si avvicinarono a Eliseo e gli dissero: «Sai che l'Eterno quest'oggi porterà via il tuo signore al di sopra di te?». Egli rispose: «Sí, lo so; tacete!».

6 A nd Elijah saith to him, `Abide, I pray thee, here, for Jehovah hath sent me to the Jordan;' and he saith, `Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, if I leave thee;' and they go on both of them,

Poi Elia gli disse: «Fermati qui, ti prego, perché l'Eterno mi manda al Giordano». Egli rispose: «Come è vero che l'Eterno vive e che tu stesso vivi, io non ti lascerò». Cosí proseguirono il cammino assieme.

7 - - and fifty men of the sons of the prophets have gone on, and stand over-against afar off -- and both of them have stood by the Jordan.

Ora cinquanta uomini tra i discepoli dei profeti li seguirono e si fermarono di fronte a loro, da lontano, mentre Elia ed Eliseo si fermarono sulla riva del Giordano.

8 A nd Elijah taketh his robe, and wrappeth together, and smiteth the waters, and they are halved, hither and thither, and they pass over both of them on dry land.

Allora Elia prese il suo mantello, lo rotolò e percosse le acque, che si divisero, di qua e di là; cosí passarono entrambi all'asciutto.

9 A nd it cometh to pass, at their passing over, that Elijah hath said unto Elisha, `Ask, what do I do for thee before I am taken from thee?' and Elisha saith, `Then let there be, I pray thee, a double portion of thy spirit unto me;'

Dopo che furono passati, Elia disse ad Eliseo: «Chiedi ciò che vuoi che io faccia per te, prima che sia portato via da te». Eliseo rispose: «Ti prego, fa' che una doppia porzione del tuo spirito venga su di me».

10 a nd he saith, `Thou hast asked a hard thing; if thou dost see me taken from thee, it is to thee so; and if not, it is not.'

Elia disse: «Tu hai chiesto una cosa difficile; tuttavia, se mi vedrai quando sarò portato via da te, ciò ti sarà concesso, altrimenti non l'avrai».

11 A nd it cometh to pass, they are going, going on and speaking, and lo, a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and they separate between them both, and Elijah goeth up in a whirlwind, to the heavens.

Ora, mentre essi camminavano discorrendo, ecco un carro di fuoco, e cavalli di fuoco li separarono l'uno dall'altro, ed Elia salí al cielo in un turbine.

12 A nd Elisha is seeing, and he is crying, `My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and its horsemen;' and he hath not seen him again; and he taketh hold on his garments, and rendeth them into two pieces.

Eliseo vide ciò e si mise a gridare: «Padre mio, padre mio, carro d'Israele e sua cavalleria!». Poi non lo vide piú. Allora afferrò le sue vesti e le stracciò in due pezzi.

13 A nd he taketh up the robe of Elijah, that fell from off him, and turneth back and standeth on the edge of the Jordan,

Raccolse quindi il mantello di Elia che gli era caduto di dosso, tornò indietro e si fermò sulla riva del Giordano.

14 a nd he taketh the robe of Elijah that fell from off him, and smiteth the waters, and saith, `Where Jehovah, God of Elijah -- even He?' and he smiteth the waters, and they are halved, hither and thither, and Elisha passeth over.

Poi prese il mantello di Elia che gli era caduto di dosso, percosse le acque e disse: «Dov'è l'Eterno, il DIO di Elia?». Quando anch'egli ebbe percosso le acque, queste si divisero di qua e di là ed Eliseo passò.

15 A nd they see him -- the sons of the prophets who in Jericho -- over-against, and they say, `Rested hath the spirit of Elijah on Elisha;' and they come to meet him, and bow themselves to him to the earth,

Quando i discepoli dei profeti che erano a Gerico e stavano quindi di fronte al Giordano videro Eliseo, dissero: «Lo spirito di Elia si è posato su Eliseo». Poi gli andarono incontro, si inchinarono fino a terra davanti a lui

16 a nd say unto him, `Lo, we pray thee, there are with thy servants fifty men, sons of valour: let them go, we pray thee, and they seek thy lord, lest the Spirit of Jehovah hath taken him up, and doth cast him on one of the hills, or into one of the valleys;' and he saith, `Ye do not send.'

e gli dissero: «Ecco, ci sono fra i tuoi servi cinquanta uomini robusti; lascia che vadano a cercare il tuo signore nel caso che lo Spirito dell'Eterno l'avesse preso e gettato su qualche monte o in qualche valle». Eliseo rispose: «Non mandate nessuno».

17 A nd they press upon him, till he is ashamed, and he saith, `Send ye;' and they send fifty men, and they seek three days, and have not found him;

Ma essi insistettero tanto con lui che egli ne fu confuso e disse: «Mandateli» Allora essi mandarono cinquanta uomini che cercarono Elia per tre giorni, ma non lo trovarono.

18 a nd they turn back unto him -- and he is abiding in Jericho -- and he saith unto them, `Did I not say unto you, Do not go?'

Quando essi tornarono da Eliseo, che si era fermato a Gerico, egli disse loro: «Non vi avevo detto: Non andate?».

19 A nd the men of the city say unto Elisha, `Lo, we pray thee, the site of the city good, as my lord seeth, and the waters bad, and the earth sterile.'

Or gli abitanti della città dissero a Eliseo «Ecco, il soggiorno di questa città è piacevole, come il mio signore può constatare, ma le acque sono cattive e il paese è sterile».

20 A nd he saith, `Bring to me a new dish, and place there salt;' and they bring unto him,

Egli disse: «Portatemi un piatto nuovo e mettetevi del sale». Essi glielo portarono.

21 a nd he goeth out unto the source of the waters, and casteth there salt, and saith, `Thus said Jehovah, I have given healing to these waters; there is not thence any more death and sterility.'

Allora egli si recò alla sorgente delle acque, vi gettò il sale e disse: «Cosí dice l'Eterno: "Io rendo sane queste acque, da esse non verrà piú né morte né sterilità"».

22 A nd the waters are healed unto this day, according to the word of Elisha, that he spake.

Così le acque sono rimaste sane fino al giorno d'oggi, secondo la parola che Eliseo aveva pronunciato.

23 A nd he goeth up thence to Beth-El, and he is going up in the way, and little youths have come out from the city, and scoff at him, and say to him, `Go up, bald-head! go up, bald-head!'

Poi di là Eliseo salí a Bethel. Mentre egli saliva per la strada uscirono dalla città alcuni giovani e si misero a schernirlo, dicendo: «Sali, testa pelata! Sali, testa pelata».

24 A nd he looketh behind him, and seeth them, and declareth them vile in the name of Jehovah, and two bears come out of the forest, and rend of them forty and two lads.

Egli si voltò, li vide e li maledisse nel nome dell'Eterno; allora uscirono dalla foresta due orse, che fecero a pezzi quarantadue di quei giovani.

25 A nd he goeth thence unto the hill of Carmel, and thence he hath turned back to Samaria.

Di là Eliseo si recò sul monte Karmel, e di là tornò quindi a Samaria.
