1 A nd Solomon joineth in marriage with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and taketh the daughter of Pharaoh, and bringeth her in unto the city of David, till he completeth to build his own house, and the house of Jehovah, and the wall of Jerusalem round about.

Poi Salomone si imparentò con il Faraone re di Egitto. Sposò la figlia del Faraone e la condusse nella città di Davide, finché non terminò di costruire la sua casa, la casa dell'Eterno e le mura di cinta di Gerusalemme.

2 O nly, the people are sacrificing in high places, for there hath not been built a house for the name of Jehovah till those days.

Il popolo però offriva sacrifici sugli alti luoghi, perché fino a quei giorni non era ancora stato costruito un tempio al nome dell'Eterno.

3 A nd Solomon loveth Jehovah, to walk in the statutes of David his father -- only, in high places he is sacrificing and making perfume --

Salomone amava l'Eterno e seguiva gli statuti di Davide suo padre; tuttavia offriva sacrifici e bruciava incenso sugli alti luoghi.

4 a nd the king goeth to Gibeon, to sacrifice there, for it the great high place; a thousand burnt-offerings cause to ascend doth Solomon on that altar.

Il re andò a Gabaon per offrirvi sacrifici, perché quello era l'alto luogo piú importante; e su quell'altare Salomone offerse mille olocausti.

5 I n Gibeon hath Jehovah appeared unto Solomon, in a dream of the night, and God saith, `Ask -- what do I give to thee?'

A Gabaon, l'Eterno apparve in sogno di notte a Salomone. DIO gli disse: «Chiedi ciò che vuoi che io ti dia».

6 A nd Solomon saith, `Thou hast done with Thy servant David my father great kindness, as he walked before Thee in truth and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with Thee, and Thou dost keep for him this great kindness, and dost give to him a son sitting on his throne, as this day.

Salomone rispose: «Tu hai usato grande benevolenza col tuo servo Davide, mio padre, perché egli camminava davanti a te con fedeltà, con giustizia e con rettitudine di cuore verso di te, tu hai continuato a usare con lui questa grande benevolenza e gli hai dato un figlio che sedesse sul suo trono, come oggi avviene.

7 A nd now, O Jehovah my God, Thou hast caused thy servant to reign instead of David my father; and I a little child, I do not know to go out and to come in;

Ora, o Eterno, mio DIO, tu hai fatto regnare il tuo servo al posto di Davide mio padre ma io non sono che un fanciullo e non so come comportarmi.

8 a nd Thy servant in the midst of thy people, whom Thou hast chosen, a people numerous, that is not numbered nor counted for multitude,

Inoltre il tuo servo è in mezzo al popolo che tu hai scelto, un popolo grande, troppo numeroso per essere contato e calcolato.

9 a nd Thou hast given to Thy servant an understanding heart, to judge Thy people, to discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this Thy great people?'

Concedi dunque al tuo servo un cuore intelligente, perché possa amministrare la giustizia per il tuo popolo e discernere il bene dal male. Chi infatti potrebbe amministrare la giustizia per questo tuo popolo cosí numeroso?».

10 A nd the thing is good in the eyes of the Lord, that Solomon hath asked this thing,

Piacque al Signore che Salomone avesse fatto questa richiesta.

11 a nd God saith unto him, `Because that thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thee many days, nor asked for thee riches, nor asked the life of thine enemies, and hast asked for thee discernment to understand judgment,

DIO allora gli disse: «Poiché hai domandato questo e non hai chiesto per te né lunga vita. né ricchezze, né la morte dei tuoi nemici, ma hai chiesto intelligenza per comprendere ciò che è giusto.

12 l o, I have done according to thy words; lo, I have given to thee a heart, wise and understanding, that like thee there hath not been before thee, and after thee there doth not arise like thee;

ecco, io faccio come tu hai chiesto: ti do un cuore saggio e intelligente, cosicché non c'è stato nessuno come te prima di te e non sorgerà nessuno come te dopo di te.

13 a nd also, that which thou hast not asked I have given to thee, both riches and honour, that there hath not been like thee a man among the kings all thy days;

Ti do pure ciò che non hai domandato: ricchezze e gloria, cosicché fra i re non vi sarà nessuno come te, per tutti i giorni della tua vita.

14 a nd if thou dost walk in My ways to keep My statutes, and My commands, as David thy father walked, then I have prolonged thy days.'

Se poi cammini nelle mie vie osservando i miei statuti e i miei comandamenti, come fece Davide tuo padre io prolungherò i tuoi giorni».

15 A nd Solomon awaketh, and lo, a dream; and he cometh in to Jerusalem, and standeth before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and causeth to ascend burnt-offerings, and maketh peace-offerings. And he maketh a banquet for all his servants,

Salomone si svegliò, ed ecco era un sogno. Egli tornò allora a Gerusalemme, si presentò davanti all'arca del patto del Signore e offerse olocausti e sacrifici di ringraziamento, e fece un banchetto per tutti i suoi servi.

16 t hen come in do two women, harlots, unto the king, and stand before him,

Poi vennero dal re due prostitute e si presentarono davanti a lui.

17 a nd the one woman saith, `O, my lord, I and this woman are dwelling in one house, and I bring forth with her, in the house;

Una delle due donne disse: «O mio signore, questa donna ed io abitiamo nella stessa casa; io partorii quando essa era in casa.

18 a nd it cometh to pass on the third day of my bringing forth, that this woman also bringeth forth, and we together, there is no stranger with us in the house, save we two, in the house.

Tre giorni dopo che io avevo partorito, partorí anche questa donna; e non c'era alcun altro in casa all'infuori di noi due.

19 A nd the son of this woman dieth at night, because she hath lain upon it,

Il figlio di questa donna morí durante la notte, perché ella gli si era coricata sopra.

20 a nd she riseth in the middle of the night, and taketh my son from beside me -- and thy handmaid is asleep -- and layeth it in her bosom, and her dead son she hath laid in my bosom;

Ella allora si alzò nel cuore della notte, prese mio figlio dal mio fianco, mentre la tua serva dormiva, e se lo pose in seno, e sul mio seno pose il suo figlio morto.

21 a nd I rise in the morning to suckle my son, and lo, dead; and I consider concerning it in the morning, and lo, it was not my son whom I did bear.'

Quando al mattino mi alzai per allattare mio figlio, trovai che era morto; quando però lo esaminai attentamente al mattino, vidi che non era il figlio che io avevo partorito».

22 A nd the other woman saith, `Nay, but my son the living, and thy son the dead;' and this saith, `Nay, but thy son the dead, and my son the living.' And they speak before the king.

Allora l'altra donna disse: «Non è vero; mio figlio è quello vivo, e il tuo è quello morto». Ma la prima insistette: «Non è vero; tuo figlio è quello morto e il mio quello vivo». Cosí bisticciavano davanti al re.

23 A nd the king saith, `This saith, This my son, the living, and thy son the dead; and that saith, Nay, but thy son the dead, and my son the living.'

Allora il re disse: «Una dice: "Quello vivo è mio figlio e quello morto è il tuo". E l'altra dice: "Non è vero, quello morto è tuo figlio e quello vivo è il mio"».

24 A nd the king saith, `Take for me a sword;' and they bring the sword before the king,

ll re allora comandò: «Portatemi una spada!». Cosí portarono una spada davanti al re.

25 a nd the king saith, `Cut the living child into two, and give the half to the one, and the half to the other.'

Il re quindi ordinò: «Dividete il bambino vivo in due parti e datene metà all'una e metà all'altra».

26 A nd the woman whose son the living one saith unto the king (for her bowels yearned over her son), yea, she saith, `O, my lord, give to her the living child, and put it not at all to death;' and this saith, `Let it be neither mine or thine -- cut.'

Allora la donna del bambino vivo che amava teneramente suo figlio, disse al re: «Deh! Signor mio, date a lei il bambino vivo, ma non uccidetelo!» L'altra invece diceva: «Non sia né mio né tuo ma dividetelo!».

27 A nd the king answereth and saith, `Give ye to her the living child, and put it not at all to death; she its mother.'

Allora il re, rispondendo disse: «Date alla prima il bambino vivo e non uccidetelo, perché è lei la madre del bambino».

28 A nd all Israel hear of the judgment that the king hath judged, and fear because of the king, for they have seen that the wisdom of God in his heart, to do judgment.

Tutto Israele seppe della sentenza pronunciata dal re e temette il re perché vedevano che la sapienza di DIO era in lui per amministrare la giustizia".
