1 T hus said Jehovah, `Go down the house of the king of Judah, and thou hast spoken there this word, and hast said,

Cosí dice l'Eterno: «Scendi nella casa del re di Giuda e là pronuncia questa parola,

2 H ear a word of Jehovah, O king of Judah, who art sitting on the throne of David, thou, and thy servants, and thy people, who are coming in at these gates,

e di': Ascolta la parola dell'Eterno, o re di Giuda, che siedi sul trono di Davide, tu, i tuoi servi e il tuo popolo, che entrate per queste porte.

3 T hus said Jehovah: Do ye judgment and righteousness, And deliver the plundered from the hand of the oppressor, And sojourner, orphan, and widow, ye do not oppress nor wrong, And innocent blood ye do not shed in this place.

Cosí dice l'Eterno: Agite con rettitudine e giustizia, liberate il derubato dalla mano dell'oppressore, non fate torto né violenza allo straniero, all'orfano e alla vedova, e non spargete sangue innocente in questo luogo.

4 F or, if ye certainly do this thing, Then come in by the gates of this house Have kings sitting for David on his throne, Riding on chariot, and on horses, He, and his servants, and his people.

Poiché se osserverete interamente questa parola, allora i re assisi sul trono di Davide entreranno per le porte di questa casa, montati su carri e su cavalli, essi, i loro servi e il loro popolo.

5 A nd if ye do not hear these words, By myself I have sworn -- an affirmation of Jehovah, That this house is for a desolation.

Ma se non ascolterete queste parole, io giuro per me stesso», dice l'Eterno «che questa casa diventerà una desolazione».

6 F or thus said Jehovah, Concerning the house of the king of Judah: Gilead thou to Me -- head of Lebanon, If not -- I make thee a wilderness, Cities not inhabited.

Poiché cosí dice l'Eterno riguardo alla casa del re di Giuda: «Tu eri per me come Galaad, come la vetta del Libano. Ma io ti ridurrò certamente a un deserto a città senza abitanti.

7 A nd I have separated for thee destroyers, Each with his weapons, And they have cut down the choice of thy cedars, And have cast them on the fire.

Preparo contro di te dei devastatori, ognuno con le sue armi; essi abbatteranno i tuoi cedri migliori e li getteranno nel fuoco.

8 A nd many nations have passed by this city, And they have said, each to his neighbour, For what hath Jehovah done thus to this great city?

Molte nazioni passeranno vicino a questa città e diranno l'una all'altra: "Perché l'Eterno ha trattato cosi questa grande città?"

9 A nd they have said, `Because that they have forsaken The covenant of Jehovah their God, And bow themselves to other gods, and serve them.'

E risponderanno: "Perché hanno abbandonato il patto dell'Eterno, il loro DIO, e si sono prostrati davanti ad altri dèi e li hanno serviti"».

10 Y e do not weep for the dead, nor bemoan for him, Weep ye sore for the traveller, For he doth not return again, Nor hath he seen the land of his birth.

Non piangete per il morto, non fate cordoglio per lui, ma piangete amaramente per chi parte, perché non tornerà piú né rivedrà piú il suo paese nativo.

11 F or thus said Jehovah concerning Shallum son of Josiah king of Judah, who is reigning instead of Josiah his father, who hath gone forth from this place: He doth not turn back hither again;

Poiché cosí dice l'Eterno riguardo a Shallum, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda, che regna al posto di Giosia suo padre e che è uscito da questo luogo: «Egli non vi ritornerà piú,

12 F or in the place whither they have removed him he dieth, And this land he doth not see again.

ma morirà nel luogo dove l'hanno condotto in cattività e non vedrà piú questo paese».

13 W o to him who is building his house by unrighteousness, And his upper chambers by injustice, On his neighbour he layeth service for nought, And his wage he doth not give to him.

Guai a chi costruisce la sua casa senza giustizia e le sue stanze superiori senza equità, che fa lavorare il prossimo per nulla e non gli retribuisce il suo lavoro,

14 W ho is saying, `I build for myself a large house, And airy upper chambers,' And he hath cut out for himself its windows, Ceiled with cedar, and painted with vermillion.

e dice: «Mi costruirò una casa grande con spaziose stanze superiori», e vi apre finestre, la riveste di legno di cedro e la dipinge di rosso.

15 D ost thou reign, because thou art fretting thyself in cedar? Thy father -- did he not eat and drink? Yea, he did judgment and righteousness, Then well with him.

«Pensi forse di essere re, perché sei circondato da cedro? Tuo padre non mangiava e beveva? Ma agiva con rettitudine e giustizia e tutto gli andava bene.

16 H e decided the cause of the poor and needy, Then well -- is it not to know Me? An affirmation of Jehovah.

Egli difendeva la causa del povero e del bisognoso e tutto gli andava bene. Non significa questo conoscere me?», dice l'Eterno.

17 B ut thine eyes and thy heart are not, Except on thy dishonest gain, And on shedding of innocent blood, And on oppression, and on doing of violence.

«Ma i tuoi occhi e il tuo cuore non mirano che al tuo ingiusto guadagno, a spargere sangue innocente e a compiere oppressione e violenza».

18 T herefore, thus said Jehovah concerning Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah: They do not lament for him, Ah, my brother, and Ah, sister, They do not lament for him, Ah, lord, and Ah, his honour.

Perciò cosí dice l'Eterno riguardo a Jehoiakim, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda: «Non faranno cordoglio per lui, dicendo: Ahimè, fratello mio! Ahimè, sorella! Non faranno cordoglio per lui, dicendo: Ahimè, signore! Ahimè, sua maestà!

19 T he burial of an ass -- he is buried, Dragged and cast out thence to the gates of Jerusalem.

Sarà sepolto come si seppellisce un asino, trascinato e gettato lontano dalle porte di Gerusalemme.

20 G o up to Lebanon, and cry, And in Bashan give forth thy voice, And cry from Abarim, For destroyed have been all loving thee.

Sali sul Libano e grida, alza la voce in Bashan e grida dall'Abarim, perché tutti i tuoi amanti sono distrutti.

21 I have spoken unto thee in thine ease, Thou hast said, `I do not hearken,' This thy way from thy youth, For thou hast not hearkened to My voice.

Ti ho parlato al tempo della tua prosperità, ma tu dicesti: "Non ascolterò". Questo è stato il tuo comportamento fin dalla tua giovinezza: non hai mai ascoltato la mia voce.

22 A ll thy friends consume doth wind, And thy lovers into captivity do go, Surely then thou art ashamed, And hast blushed for all thy wickedness.

Tutti i tuoi pastori saranno divorati dal vento, e i tuoi amanti andranno in cattività; allora sarai svergognata e confusa per tutta la tua malvagità.

23 O dweller in Lebanon, making a nest among cedars, How gracious hast thou been when pangs come to thee, Pain -- as of a travailing woman.

Tu che dimori sul Libano, che hai fatto il nido tra cedri, quanto gemerai quando ti coglieranno le doglie, i dolori come di donna che sta per partorire!

24 I live -- an affirmation of Jehovah, Though Coniah son of Jehoiakim king of Judah Were a seal on My right hand, Surely thence I draw thee away,

Com'è vero che io vivo», dice l'Eterno, «anche se Koniah, figlio di Jehoiakim, re di Giuda, fosse un anello da sigillo nella mia mano destra, io ti strapperei di là.

25 A nd I have given thee into the hand of those seeking thy life, And into hands of which thou art afraid, Into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, And into the hand of the Chaldeans.

Io ti darò in mano di quelli che cercano la tua vita, in mano di quelli di cui hai paura, in mano di Nebukadnetsar, re di Babilonia, e in mano dei Caldei.

26 A nd I have cast thee, And thy mother who bore thee, unto another country, Where ye were not born, and there do ye die.

Getterò te e tua madre che ti ha partorito, in un paese straniero dove non siete nati, e là morirete.

27 A nd to the land whither they are lifting up their soul to return, Thither they do not return.

Ma nel paese in cui desiderano ardentemente di ritornare, non vi torneranno.

28 A grief -- a despised broken thing -- is this man Coniah? A vessel in which there is no pleasure? Wherefore have they been cast up and down, He and his seed, Yea, they were cast on to a land that they knew not?

E forse quest'uomo Koniah un vaso spregevole, frantumato, o un oggetto in cui non si prova alcun piacere? Perché sono dunque scacciati, lui e la sua discendenza, e gettati in un paese che non conoscono?

29 E arth, earth, earth, hear a word of Jehovah,

O paese, o paese, o paese, ascolta la parola dell'Eterno!

30 T hus said Jehovah: Write ye this man childless, A man -- he doth not prosper in his days, For none of his seed doth prosper, Sitting on the throne of David, And ruling again in Judah!

Cosí dice l'Eterno: "Registrate quest'uomo come privo di figli, un uomo che non prospererà nei suoi giorni, perché nessuno della sua discendenza prospererà, giungendo a sedersi sul trono di Davide e a regnare ancora su Giuda"».
