1 I n the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God;

2 t his one was in the beginning with God;

Egli (la Parola) era nel principio con Dio.

3 a ll things through him did happen, and without him happened not even one thing that hath happened.

Tutte le cose sono state fatte per mezzo di lui (la Parola), e senza di lui nessuna delle cose fatte è stata fatta.

4 I n him was life, and the life was the light of men,

In lui era la vita e la vita era la luce degli uomini.

5 a nd the light in the darkness did shine, and the darkness did not perceive it.

E la luce risplende nelle tenebre e le tenebre non l'hanno compresa.

6 T here came a man -- having been sent from God -- whose name John,

Vi fu un uomo mandato da Dio, il cui nome era Giovanni,

7 t his one came for testimony, that he might testify about the Light, that all might believe through him;

Questi venne come testimone per rendere testimonianza alla luce, affinché tutti credessero per mezzo di lui;

8 t hat one was not the Light, but -- that he might testify about the Light.

egli non era la luce, ma fu mandato per rendere testimonianza della luce.

9 H e was the true Light, which doth enlighten every man, coming to the world;

Egli (la Parola) era la luce vera, che illumina ogni uomo che viene nel mondo.

10 i n the world he was, and the world through him was made, and the world did not know him:

Egli (la Parola) era nel mondo, e il mondo fu fatto per mezzo di lui, ma il mondo non lo ha conosciuto.

11 t o his own things he came, and his own people did not receive him;

Egli è venuto in casa sua, e i suoi non lo hanno ricevuto,

12 b ut as many as did receive him to them he gave authority to become sons of God -- to those believing in his name,

ma a tutti coloro che lo hanno ricevuto, egli ha dato l'autorità di diventare figli di Dio, a quelli cioè che credono nel suo nome,

13 w ho -- not of blood nor of a will of flesh, nor of a will of man but -- of God were begotten.

i quali non sono nati da sangue né da volontà di carne, né da volontà di uomo, ma sono nati da Dio.

14 A nd the Word became flesh, and did tabernacle among us, and we beheld his glory, glory as of an only begotten of a father, full of grace and truth.

E la Parola si è fatta carne ed ha abitato fra di noi, e noi abbiamo contemplato la sua gloria, come gloria dell'unigenito proceduto dal Padre, piena di grazia e di verità.

15 J ohn doth testify concerning him, and hath cried, saying, `This was he of whom I said, He who after me is coming, hath come before me, for he was before me;'

Giovanni testimoniò di lui e gridò, dicendo: «Questi è colui del quale dicevo: Colui che viene dopo di me mi ha preceduto, perché era prima di me.

16 a nd out of his fulness did we all receive, and grace over-against grace;

E noi tutti abbiamo ricevuto dalla sua pienezza grazia sopra grazia.

17 f or the law through Moses was given, the grace and the truth through Jesus Christ did come;

Poiché la legge è stata data per mezzo di Mosé, ma la grazia e la verità sono venute per mezzo di Gesú Cristo.

18 G od no one hath ever seen; the only begotten Son, who is on the bosom of the Father -- he did declare.

Nessuno ha mai visto Dio; l'unigenito Figlio, che è nel seno del Padre, è colui che lo ha fatto conoscere.

19 A nd this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent out of Jerusalem priests and Levites, that they might question him, `Who art thou?'

E questa è la testimonianza di Giovanni, quando i Giudei gli inviarono da Gerusalemme dei sacerdoti e dei leviti per domandargli: «Chi sei tu?».

20 a nd he confessed and did not deny, and confessed -- `I am not the Christ.'

Egli lo dichiarò e non lo negò, e dichiarò: «Io non sono il Cristo»,

21 A nd they questioned him, `What then? Elijah art thou?' and he saith, `I am not.' -- `The prophet art thou?' and he answered, `No.'

Allora essi gli domandarono: «Chi sei dunque? Sei tu Elia?». Egli disse: «Non lo sono!». «Sei tu il profeta?». Ed egli rispose: «No!».

22 T hey said then to him, `Who art thou, that we may give an answer to those sending us? what dost thou say concerning thyself?'

Essi allora gli dissero: «Chi sei tu, affinché diamo una risposta a coloro che ci hanno mandato? Che dici di te stesso?».

23 H e said, `I a voice of one crying in the wilderness: Make straight the way of the Lord, as said Isaiah the prophet.'

Egli rispose: «Io sono la voce di colui che grida nel deserto: Raddrizzate la via del Signore, come disse il profeta Isaia».

24 A nd those sent were of the Pharisees,

Or coloro che erano stati mandati venivano dai farisei;

25 a nd they questioned him and said to him, `Why, then, dost thou baptize, if thou art not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?'

essi gli domandarono e gli dissero: «Perché dunque battezzi, se tu non sei il Cristo, né Elia, né il profeta?».

26 J ohn answered them, saying, `I baptize with water, but in midst of you he hath stood whom ye have not known, this one it is who is coming after me, who hath been before me,

Giovanni rispose loro. dicendo: «Io battezzo con acqua, ma in mezzo a vo i sta uno che non conoscete.

27 o f whom I am not worthy that I may loose the cord of his sandal.'

Egli è colui che viene dopo di me e che mi ha preceduto, a cui io non sono degno di sciogliere il legaccio dei sandali».

28 T hese things came to pass in Bethabara, beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing,

Queste cose avvennero in Betabara al di là del Giordano, dove Giovanni battezzava.

29 o n the morrow John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, `Lo, the Lamb of God, who is taking away the sin of the world;

Il giorno seguente, Giovanni vide Gesú che veniva verso di lui e disse: «Ecco l'Agnello di Dio, che toglie il peccato del mondo!

30 t his is he concerning whom I said, After me doth come a man, who hath come before me, because he was before me:

Questi è colui del quale dissi: "Dopo di me viene un uomo che mi ha preceduto, perché era prima di me"

31 a nd I knew him not, but, that he might be manifested to Israel, because of this I came with the water baptizing.

Io non lo conoscevo, perciò sono venuto a battezzare con acqua, affinché egli fosse manifestato in Israele».

32 A nd John testified, saying -- `I have seen the Spirit coming down, as a dove, out of heaven, and it remained on him;

E Giovanni testimoniò, dicendo: «Io ho visto lo Spirito scendere dal cielo come una colomba e fermarsi su di lui.

33 a nd I did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water, He said to me, On whomsoever thou mayst see the Spirit coming down, and remaining on him, this is he who is baptizing with the Holy Spirit;

Io non lo conoscevo, ma colui che mi mandò a battezzare con acqua mi disse: "Colui sul quale vedrai scendere lo Spirito e fermarsi su di lui, è quello che battezza con lo Spirito Santo".

34 a nd I have seen, and have testified, that this is the Son of God.'

Ed io ho visto ed ho attestato che questi è il Figlio di Dio».

35 O n the morrow, again, John was standing, and two of his disciples,

Il giorno seguente, Giovanni era nuovamente là con due dei suoi discepoli.

36 a nd having looked on Jesus walking, he saith, `Lo, the Lamb of God;'

E, fissando lo sguardo su Gesú che passava, disse: «Ecco l'Agnello di Dio».

37 a nd the two disciples heard him speaking, and they followed Jesus.

E i due discepoli, avendolo sentito parlare, seguirono Gesú.

38 A nd Jesus having turned, and having beheld them following, saith to them, `What seek ye?' and they said to them, `Rabbi, (which is, being interpreted, Teacher,) where remainest thou?'

Ma Gesú, voltatosi e vedendo che lo seguivano, disse loro: «Che cercate?» Essi gli dissero: «Rabbi (che, tradotto; vuol dire maestro), dove abiti?».

39 H e saith to them, `Come and see;' they came, and saw where he doth remain, and with him they remained that day and the hour was about the tenth.

Egli disse loro: «Venite e vedete». Essi dunque andarono e videro dove egli abitava, e stettero con lui quel giorno. Era circa l'ora decima.

40 A ndrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who heard from John, and followed him;

Andrea, fratello di Simon Pietro, era uno dei due che avevano udito questo da Giovanni e avevano seguito Gesú.

41 t his one doth first find his own brother Simon, and saith to him, `We have found the Messiah,' (which is, being interpreted, The Anointed,)

Costui trovò per primo suo fratello Simone e gli disse: «Abbiamo trovato il Messia che, tradotto, vuol dire: "Il Cristo"»;

42 a nd he brought him unto Jesus: and having looked upon him, Jesus saith, `Thou art Simon, the son of Jonas, thou shalt be called Cephas,' (which is interpreted, A rock.)

e lo condusse da Gesú. Gesú allora, fissandolo, disse: «Tu sei Simone, figlio di Giona; tu sarai chiamato Cefa che vuol dire: sasso».

43 O n the morrow, he willed to go forth to Galilee, and he findeth Philip, and saith to him, `Be following me.'

Il giorno seguente, Gesú desiderava partire per la Galilea; trovò Filippo e gli disse: «Seguimi».

44 A nd Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter;

Or Filippo era di Betsaida, la stessa città di Andrea e di Pietro.

45 P hilip findeth Nathanael, and saith to him, `Him of whom Moses wrote in the Law, and the prophets, we have found, Jesus the son of Joseph, who from Nazareth;'

Filippo trovò Natanaele e gli disse: «Abbiamo trovato colui, del quale hanno scritto Mosé nella legge e i profeti: Gesú da Nazareth, il figlio di Giuseppe».

46 a nd Nathanael said to him, `Out of Nazareth is any good thing able to be?' Philip said to him, `Come and see.'

E Natanaele gli disse: «Può venire qualcosa di buono da Nazaret?». Filippo gli disse: «Vieni e vedi».

47 J esus saw Nathanael coming unto him, and he saith concerning him, `Lo, truly an Israelite, in whom guile is not;'

Gesú vide venirgli incontro Natanaele e disse di lui: «Ecco un vero Israelita, in cui non c'è inganno».

48 N athanael saith to him, `Whence me dost thou know?' Jesus answered and said to him, `Before Philip's calling thee -- thou being under the fig-tree -- I saw thee.'

Natanaele gli disse: «Come fai a conoscermi?». Gesú gli rispose, dicendo: «Ti ho visto quando eri sotto il fico, prima che Filippo ti chiamasse».

49 N athanael answered and saith to him, `Rabbi, thou art the Son of God, thou art the king of Israel.'

Natanaele, rispondendogli, disse: «Maestro, tu sei il Figlio di Dio tu sei il re d'Israele».

50 J esus answered and said to him, `Because I said to thee, I saw thee under the fig-tree, thou dost believe; greater things than these thou shalt see;'

Gesú rispose e gli disse: «Poiché ho detto di averti visto sotto il fico, tu credi; vedrai cose maggiori di queste».

51 a nd he saith to him, `Verily, verily, I say to you, henceforth ye shall see the heaven opened, and the messengers of God going up and coming down upon the Son of Man.'

Poi gli disse: «In verità, in verità io vi dico che da ora in poi vedrete il cielo aperto e gli angeli di Dio salire e scendere sopra il Figlio dell'uomo».
