1 A nd it cometh to pass, after these things, that saith to Joseph, `Lo, thy father is sick;' and he taketh his two sons with him, Manasseh and Ephraim.

Dopo queste cose, avvenne che fu detto a Giuseppe: «Ecco, tuo padre è ammalato». Così egli prese con sé i suoi due figli, Manasse ed Efraim.

2 A nd declareth to Jacob, and saith, `Lo, thy son Joseph is coming unto thee;' and Israel doth strengthen himself, and sit upon the bed.

Quando fu riferito a Giacobbe: «Ecco, tuo figlio Giuseppe viene da te», Israele raccolse le sue forze e si mise a sedere sul letto.

3 A nd Jacob saith unto Joseph, `God Almighty hath appeared unto me, in Luz, in the land of Canaan, and blesseth me,

Allora Giacobbe disse a Giuseppe: «Dio onnipotente mi apparve a Luz nel paese di Canaan, mi benedisse

4 a nd saith unto me, Lo, I am making thee fruitful, and have multiplied thee, and given thee for an assembly of peoples, and given this land to thy seed after thee, a possession age-during.

e mi disse: "Ecco, io ti renderò fruttifero, ti moltiplicherò, ti farò diventare una moltitudine di popoli e darò questo paese alla tua discendenza dopo di te, come una proprietà a perpetua".

5 ` And now, thy two sons, who are born to thee in the land of Egypt, before my coming unto thee to Egypt, mine they; Ephraim and Manasseh, as Reuben and Simeon they are mine;

Ora i tuoi due figli, che ti sono nati nel paese d'Egitto prima che io venissi da te in Egitto, sono miei. Efraim e Manasse sono miei, come Ruben, e Simeone.

6 a nd thy family which thou hast begotten after them are thine; by the name of their brethren they are called in their inheritance.

Ma i figli che hai generato dopo di loro saranno tuoi; nel territorio della loro eredità saranno chiamati col nome dei loro fratelli.

7 ` And I -- in my coming in from Padan- Rachel hath died by me in the land of Canaan, in the way, while yet a kibrath of land to enter Ephrata, and I bury her there in the way of Ephrata, which Bethlehem.'

Quanto a me, mentre tornavo da Paddan, Rachele morì vicino a me durante il viaggio, nel paese di Canaan, a breve distanza da Efrata; e l'ho sepolta là, sulla via di Efrata, che è Betlemme».

8 A nd Israel seeth the sons of Joseph, and saith, `Who these?'

Quando Israele vide i figli di Giuseppe, disse: «Chi sono questi?».

9 a nd Joseph saith unto his father, `They my sons, whom God hath given to me in this;' and he saith, `Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I bless them.'

Giuseppe rispose a suo padre: «Sono i miei figli, che DIO mi ha dato qui». Allora egli disse: «Deh, falli avvicinare a me, e io li benedirò».

10 A nd the eyes of Israel have been heavy from age, he is unable to see; and he bringeth them nigh unto him, and he kisseth them, and cleaveth to them;

Ora gli occhi di Israele erano offuscati a motivo dell'età, e non ci vedeva piú. Giuseppe li fece avvicinare a lui, ed egli li baciò e li abbracciò.

11 a nd Israel saith unto Joseph, `To see thy face I had not thought, and lo, God hath shewed me also thy seed.'

Quindi Israele disse a Giuseppe: «Io non pensavo piú di rivedere la tua faccia, ma ora DIO mi ha dato di vedere anche la tua discendenza».

12 A nd Joseph bringeth them out from between his knees, and boweth himself on his face to the earth;

Giuseppe li ritirò dalle ginocchia di suo padre e si prostrò con la faccia a terra.

13 a nd Joseph taketh them both, Ephraim in his right hand towards Israel's left, and Manasseh in his left towards Israel's right, and bringeth nigh to him.

Poi Giuseppe li prese ambedue: Efraim alla sua destra, alla sinistra di Israele, e Manasse alla sua sinistra, alla destra di Israele, e li fece avvicinare a lui.

14 A nd Israel putteth out his right hand, and placeth upon the head of Ephraim, who the younger, and his left hand upon the head of Manasseh; he hath guided his hands wisely, for Manasseh the first-born.

Allora Israele stese la sua mano destra e la posò sul capo di Efraim che era il piú giovane, e posò la sua mano sinistra sul capo di Manasse incrociando le mani, benché Manasse fosse il primogenito.

15 A nd he blesseth Joseph, and saith, `God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked habitually: God who is feeding me from my being unto this day:

Così benedisse Giuseppe e disse: «Il DIO, davanti al quale camminarono i miei padri Abrahamo e Isacco, il DIO che mi ha pasturato da quando esisto fino a questo giorno,

16 t he Messenger who is redeeming me from all evil doth bless the youths, and my name is called upon them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and they increase into a multitude in the midst of the land.'

l'Angelo che mi ha liberato da ogni male, benedica questi fanciulli! Siano chiamati col mio nome e col nome dei miei padri Abrahamo e Isacco, e moltiplichino grandemente sulla terra!».

17 A nd Joseph seeth that his father setteth his right hand on the head of Ephraim, and it is wrong in his eyes, and he supporteth the hand of his father to turn it aside from off the head of Ephraim to the head of Manasseh;

Or quando Giuseppe vide che suo padre posava la sua mano destra sul capo di Efraim, ciò gli dispiacque; prese quindi la mano di suo padre per levarla dal capo di Efraim e metterla sul capo di Manasse.

18 a nd Joseph saith unto his father, `Not so, my father, for this the first-born; set thy right hand on his head.'

Giuseppe disse quindi a suo padre: «Non così, padre mio, perché il primogenito è questo; metti la tua mano destra sul suo capo».

19 A nd his father refuseth, and saith, `I have known, my son, I have known; he also becometh a people, and he also is great, and yet, his young brother is greater than he, and his seed is the fulness of the nations;'

Ma suo padre si rifiutò; e disse: «Lo so, figlio mio, lo so; anche lui diventerà un popolo, e anche lui sarà grande; tuttavia il suo fratello piú giovane sarà piú grande di lui, e la sua discendenza diventerà una moltitudine di nazioni».

20 a nd he blesseth them in that day, saying, `By thee doth Israel bless, saying, God set thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh;' and he setteth Ephraim before Manasseh.

E in quel giorno li benedisse, dicendo: «Per te Israele benedirà, dicendo: "DIO ti faccia come Efraim e come Manasse!"». Così egli pose Efraim prima di Manasse.

21 A nd Israel saith unto Joseph, `Lo, I am dying, and God hath been with you, and hath brought you back unto the land of your fathers;

Poi Israele disse a Giuseppe: «Ecco, io sto per morire, ma DIO sarà con voi e vi ricondurrà nel paese dei vostri padri.

22 a nd I -- I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I have taken out of the hand of the Amorite by my sword and by my bow.'

Inoltre io do a te una porzione in piú che ai tuoi fratelli: quella che conquistai dalle mani degli Amorei, con la mia spada e col mio arco».
