1 T he word that hath been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah -- it the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar,

La parola che fu rivolta a Geremia da parte dell'Eterno nel decimo anno di Sedekia, re di Giuda, che fu l'Anno diciottesimo di Nebukadnetsar.

2 A nd then the forces of the king of Babylon are laying siege against Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet hath been shut up in the court of the prison that in the house of the king of Judah,

L'Esercito del re di Babilonia assediava allora Gerusalemme e il profeta Geremia era rinchiuso nel cortile della prigione che era nella casa del re di Giuda.

3 W here Zedekiah king of Judah hath shut him up, saying, `Wherefore art thou prophesying, saying, Thus said Jehovah, Lo, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he hath captured it;

Lo aveva fatto rinchiudere Sedekia, re di Giuda, dicendo: «Perché profetizzi, dicendo: Cosí dice l'Eterno: Ecco, io darò questa città in potere del re di Babilonia ed egli la prenderà,

4 A nd Zedekiah king of Judah doth not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but is certainly given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and his mouth hath spoken with his mouth, and his eyes see his eyes,

Sedekia, re di Giuda non scamperà dalle mani dei Caldei, ma sarà certamente dato in potere del re di Babilonia e parlerà con lui faccia a faccia e lo vedrà con i suoi stessi occhi.

5 A nd Babylon he leadeth Zedekiah, and there he is till My inspecting him, -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- because ye fight with the Chaldeans, ye do not prosper.'

Poi egli condurrà Sedekia a Babilonia, dove egli resterà finché io lo visiterò, dice l'Eterno. Se combattete contro i Caldei non riuscirete a nulla».

6 A nd Jeremiah saith, `A word of Jehovah hath been unto me saying,

Allora Geremia disse: «La parola dell'Eterno mi è stata rivolta, dicendo:

7 L o, Hanameel son of Shallum, thine uncle, is coming unto thee, saying, Buy for thee my field that in Anathoth, for thine the right of redemption -- to buy.

Ecco, Hanameel, figlio di Shallum tuo zio, viene da te per dirti: Comprati il mio campo che è in Anathoth, perché tu hai il diritto di riscatto per comprarlo».

8 A nd Hanameel, my uncle's son, cometh in unto me, according to the word of Jehovah, unto the court of the prison, and saith unto me, `Buy, I pray thee, my field that in Anathoth, that in the land of Benjamin, for thine the right of possession, and thine of redemption -- buy for thee.' And I know that it the word of Jehovah,

Perciò Hanameel, figlio di mio zio venne da me nel cortile della prigione, secondo la parola dell'Eterno, e mi disse: «Ti prego, compra il mio campo che è in Anathoth, nel territorio di Beniamino, perché tu hai il diritto di eredità e il diritto di riscatto. Compratelo!». Allora riconobbi che questa era la parola dell'Eterno.

9 A nd I buy the field, that in Anathoth, from Hanameel, my uncle's son, and I weigh to him the money -- seventeen shekels of silver.

Cosí comprai da Hanameel, figlio di mio zio, il campo che era in Anathoth e gli pesai il denaro: diciassette sicli d'argento.

10 A nd I write in a book, and seal, and cause witnesses to testify, and weigh the silver in balances;

Firmai l'atto, lo sigillai, chiamai i testimoni e pesai il denaro sulle bilance.

11 A nd I take the purchase-book, the sealed one, according to law and custom, and the open one.

Quindi presi l'atto di compra, quello sigillato secondo la legge e gli statuti e quello aperto

12 A nd I give the purchase-book unto Baruch son of Neriah, son of Maaseiah, before the eyes of Hanameel, my uncle's son, and before the eyes of the witnesses, those writing in the purchase-book, before the eyes of all the Jews who are sitting in the court of the prison.

e consegnai l'atto di compra a Baruk, figlio di Neriah, figlio di Mahseiah, in presenza di Hanameel mio cugino, in presenza dei testimoni che avevano firmato l'atto di compra, e in presenza di tutti i Giudei che sedevano nel cortile della prigione.

13 A nd I charge Baruch before their eyes, saying,

Poi davanti a loro diedi quest'ordine a Baruk:

14 ` Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, Take these books, this purchase-book, both the sealed one and the open one, and thou hast put them in an earthen vessel, that they may remain many days;

«Cosí dice l'Eterno degli eserciti, il DIO d'Israele: Prendi questi atti, l'atto di compra, tanto quello sigillato quanto quello aperto, e mettili in un vaso di terra, perché si conservino per molti giorni.

15 F or thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, Again are houses and fields and vineyards bought in this land.'

Poiché cosí dice l'Eterno degli eserciti, il DIO d'Israele: In questo paese si compreranno ancora case, campi e vigne».

16 A nd I pray unto Jehovah -- after my giving the purchase-book unto Baruch son of Neriah -- saying,

Dopo che ebbi consegnato l'atto di compra a Baruk, figlio di Neriah, pregai l'Eterno, dicendo:

17 ` Ah, Lord Jehovah, lo, Thou hast made the heavens and the earth by Thy great power, and by Thy stretched-out arm; there is nothing too wonderful for Thee:

«Ah, Signore, Eterno! Ecco, tu hai fatto il cielo e la terra con la tua grande potenza e con il tuo braccio disteso. Non c'è nulla troppo difficile per te.

18 D oing kindness to thousands, and recompensing iniquity of fathers into the bosom of their sons after them; God, the great, the mighty, Jehovah of Hosts His name,

Tu usi benignità verso mille e ripaghi l'iniquità dei padri in seno ai loro figli dopo di essi, Dio grande e potente, il cui nome è l'Eterno degli eserciti.

19 G reat in counsel, and mighty in act, in that Thine eyes are open on all the ways of the sons of Adam, to give to each according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:

Tu sei grande in consiglio e potente in opere e hai gli occhi aperti su tutte le vie dei figli degli uomini, per dare a ciascuno secondo le sue opere e secondo il frutto delle sue azioni.

20 I n that thou hast done signs and wonders in the land of Egypt unto this day, and in Israel, and among men, and Thou dost make for Thee a name as this day.

Tu hai operato fino al giorno d'oggi segni e prodigi nel paese d'Egitto, in Israele e in mezzo ad altri uomini, e ti sei fatto un nome come è quest'oggi.

21 ` And Thou bringest forth Thy people Israel from the land of Egypt, with signs and with wonders, and by a strong hand, and by a stretched-out arm, and by great fear,

Tu facesti uscire il tuo popolo dal paese d'Egitto con segni e prodigi, con mano potente e braccio disteso e con grande terrore.

22 A nd thou givest to them this land that thou didst swear to their fathers to give to them, a land flowing with milk and honey,

Tu desti loro questo paese che avevi giurato ai loro padri di dare loro, un paese ove scorre latte e miele.

23 A nd they come in, and possess it, and they have not hearkened to Thy voice, and in Thy law have not walked, all that which Thou didst lay a charge on them to do they have not done, and Thou dost proclaim them all this evil.

Essi entrarono e ne presero possesso, ma non hanno ubbidito alla tua voce e non hanno camminato nella tua legge; non hanno fatto tutto ciò che avevi comandato loro di fare; perciò tu hai fatto venire su di loro tutta questa calamità.

24 ` Lo, the mounts -- they have come in to the city to capture it, and the city hath been given into the hand of the Chaldeans who are fighting against it, because of the sword, and the famine, and the pestilence; and that which Thou hast spoken hath come to pass, and lo, Thou art seeing;

Ecco, i terrapieni giungono fino alla città per prenderla; e la città è data in mano dei Caldei che combattono contro di essa con la spada, la fame e la peste. Ciò che tu hai detto è avvenuto; ecco, tu lo vedi.

25 Y et Thou hast said unto me, O Lord Jehovah, Buy for thee the field with money, and cause witnesses to testify -- and the city hath been given into the hand of the Chaldeans!'

Eppure, o Signore, o Eterno, tu mi hai detto: Comprati con denaro il campo e chiama i testimoni, mentre la città è data in mano dei Caldei.

26 A nd the word of Jehovah is unto Jeremiah, saying:

Allora la parola dell'Eterno fu rivolta a Geremia, dicendo:

27 ` Lo, I Jehovah, God of all flesh: For Me is anything too wonderful?

«Ecco, io sono l'Eterno, il DIO di ogni carne; c'è forse qualcosa troppo difficile per me?.

28 ` Therefore, thus said Jehovah, Lo, I am giving this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he hath captured it;

Perciò cosí dice l'Eterno: «Ecco, io darò questa città in mano dei Caldei, in mano di Nebukadnetsar, re di Babilonia, il quale la prenderà.

29 A nd come in have the Chaldeans who are fighting against this city, and they have set this city on fire, and have burned it, and the houses on whose roofs they made perfume to Baal, and poured out libations to other gods, so as to provoke Me to anger.

I Caldei che combattono contro questa città entreranno, appiccheranno il fuoco a questa città e la bruceranno insieme alle case sui cui tetti hanno bruciato incenso, a Baal, e fatto libazioni, ad altri dèi per provocarmi ad ira.

30 F or the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah have been only doing evil in Mine eyes, from their youth; for the sons of Israel are only provoking Me with the work of their hands -- an affirmation of Jehovah.

Poiché i figli d'Israele e i figli di Giuda hanno fatto soltanto ciò che è male ai miei occhi fin dalla loro fanciullezza. I figli d'Israele infatti non hanno fatto che provocarmi ad ira con l'opera delle loro mani, dice l'Eterno.

31 ` For a cause of Mine anger, and a cause of My fury, hath this city been to Me, even from the day that they built it, and unto this day -- to turn it aside from before My face,

Poiché questa città, dal giorno che fu edificata fino ad oggi, è stata per me una provocazione della mia ira e del mio furore; perciò la farò scomparire dalla mia presenza,

32 B ecause of all the evil of the sons of Israel, and of the sons of Judah that they have done, so as to provoke Me -- they, their kings, their heads, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

a motivo di tutto il male che i figli d'Israele e i figli di Giuda hanno fatto per provocarmi ad ira, essi, i loro re, i loro principi, i loro sacerdoti, i loro profeti, gli uomini di Giuda e gli abitanti di Gerusalemme.

33 A nd they turn unto Me the neck, and not the face, and teaching them, rising early and teaching, and they are not hearkening to accept instruction.

Mi hanno voltato non la faccia, ma le spalle; e sebbene io li abbia ammaestrati con urgenza ed insistenza essi non hanno ascoltato per ricevere correzione.

34 ` And they set their abominations in the house over which My name is called, so as to defile it;

Ma hanno messo le loro abominazioni nella casa sulla quale è invocato il mio nome per contaminarla.

35 A nd they build the high places of Baal, that in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through to Molech, which I did not command them, nor did it come up on my heart to do this abomination, so as to cause Judah to sin.

Hanno anche costruito gli alti luoghi di Baal che sono nella valle dei figli di Hinnom, per far passare attraverso il fuoco i loro figli e le loro figlie in onore di Molek, ciò che non avevo comandato loro, e non mi era mai venuto in mente che dovessero commettere una tale abominazione, facendo peccare Giuda».

36 ` And now, therefore, thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, concerning this city, of which ye are saying, It hath been given into the hand of the king of Babylon by sword, and by famine, and by pestilence,

Perciò ora cosí dice l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele, riguardo a questa città, di cui voi dite: «Essa sarà data in mano del re di Babilonia, per mezzo della spada, della fame e della peste».

37 L o, I am gathering them out of all the lands whither I have driven them in Mine anger, and in My fury, and in great wrath, and I have brought them back unto this place, and have caused them to dwell confidently;

«Ecco, li radunerò da tutti i paesi dove li ho dispersi nella mia ira, nel mio furore, nella mia grande indignazione; li farò tornare in questo luogo e li farò abitare al sicuro.

38 a nd they have been to Me for a people, and I am to them for God;

Essi saranno per me il mio popolo e io sarò per loro il loro DIO,

39 a nd I have given to them one heart, and one way, to fear Me all the days, for good to them, and to their sons after them:

Darò loro un solo cuore, una sola via, perché mi temano per sempre per il bene loro e dei loro figli dopo di loro.

40 a nd I have made for them a covenant age-during, in that I turn not back from after them for My doing them good, and My fear I put in their heart, so as not to turn aside from me;

Farò con loro un patto eterno: non mi ritirerò piú da loro, facendo loro del bene, e metterò il mio timore nel loro cuore, perché non si allontanino da me.

41 a nd I have rejoiced over them to do them good, and have planted them in this land in truth, with all my heart, and with all My soul.

Gioirò nel far loro del bene e li pianterò stabilmente in questo paese con tutto il mio cuore e con tutta la mia anima».

42 ` For thus said Jehovah: As I brought in unto this people all this great evil, so I am bringing in on them all the good that I am speaking concerning them;

Poiché cosí dice l'Eterno: «Come ho fatto venire su questo popolo tutta questa grande calamità, cosí farò venire su di loro tutto il bene che ho loro promesso.

43 a nd bought hath been the field in this land of which ye are saying, A desolation it, without man and beast, it hath been given into the hand of the Chaldeans.

Si compreranno ancora campi in questo paese, di cui voi dite: E' una desolazione, senza piú uomo o bestia, è stato dato in mano dei Caldei".

44 F ields with money they buy, so as to write in a book, and to seal, and to cause witnesses to testify, in the land of Benjamin, and in suburbs of Jerusalem, and in cities of Judah, and in cities of the hill-country, and in cities of the low country, and in cities of the south, for I turn back their captivity -- an affirmation of Jehovah.'

Si compreranno campi con denaro, si firmeranno gli atti, si sigilleranno, si chiameranno testimoni nel paese di Beniamino e nei dintorni di Gerusalemme nelle città di Giuda, nelle città della regione montuosa, nelle città della pianura, nelle città del Neghev, perché io farò tornare quelli che sono in cattività», dice l'Eterno.
