1 I do fully testify, then, before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who is about to judge living and dead at his manifestation and his reign --

Ti scongiuro dunque davanti a Dio e al Signore Gesú Cristo, che ha da giudicare i vivi e i morti, nella sua apparizione e nel suo regno:

2 p reach the word; be earnest in season, out of season, convict, rebuke, exhort, in all long-suffering and teaching,

predica la parola, insisti a tempo e fuor di tempo, riprendi, rimprovera, esorta con ogni pazienza e dottrina.

3 f or there shall be a season when the sound teaching they will not suffer, but according to their own desires to themselves they shall heap up teachers -- itching in the hearing,

Verrà il tempo, infatti, in cui non sopporteranno la sana dottrina ma, per prurito di udire, si accumuleranno maestri secondo le loro proprie voglie

4 a nd indeed, from the truth the hearing they shall turn away, and to the fables they shall be turned aside.

e distoglieranno le orecchie dalla verità per rivolgersi alle favole.

5 A nd thou -- watch in all things; suffer evil; do the work of one proclaiming good news; of thy ministration make full assurance,

Ma tu sii vigilante in ogni cosa, sopporta le sofferenze, fa' l'opera di evangelista e adempi interamente il tuo ministero.

6 f or I am already being poured out, and the time of my release hath arrived;

Quanto a me, sto per essere offerto in libagione, e il tempo della mia dipartita è vicino.

7 t he good strife I have striven, the course I have finished, the faith I have kept,

Ho combattuto il buon combattimento, ho finito la corsa, ho serbato la fede.

8 h enceforth there is laid up for me the crown of the righteousness that the Lord -- the Righteous Judge -- shall give to me in that day, and not only to me, but also to all those loving his manifestation.

Per il resto, mi è riservata la corona di giustizia che il Signore, il giusto giudice, mi assegnerà in quel giorno, e non solo a me, ma anche a tutti quelli che hanno amato la sua apparizione.

9 B e diligent to come unto me quickly,

10 f or Demas forsook me, having loved the present age, and went on to Thessalonica, Crescens to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia,

perché Dema mi ha lasciato, avendo amato il mondo presente, e se n'è andato a Tessalonica; Crescente è andato in Galazia e Tito in Dalmazia.

11 L ukas only is with me; Markus having taken, bring with thyself, for he is profitable to me for ministration;

Soltanto Luca è con me, prendi Marco e conducilo con te, perché mi è molto utile nel ministero.

12 a nd Tychicus I sent to Ephesus;

Tichico invece l'ho mandato a Efeso.

13 t he cloak that I left in Troas with Carpus, coming, bring thou and the books -- especially the parchments.

Quando verrai porta il mantello che ho lasciato a Troade presso Carpo e i libri, soprattutto le pergamene.

14 A lexander the coppersmith did me much evil; may the Lord repay to him according to his works,

Alessandro, il ramaio, mi ha fatto molto male; gli renda il Signore secondo le sue opere.

15 o f whom also do thou beware, for greatly hath he stood against our words;

Guardatene anche tu, perché si è opposto grandemente alle nostre parole.

16 i n my first defence no one stood with me, but all forsook me, (may it not be reckoned to them!)

Nella mia prima difesa nessuno è stato al mio fianco, ma mi hanno tutti abbandonato; questo non venga loro imputato.

17 a nd the Lord stood by me, and did strengthen me, that through me the preaching might be fully assured, and all the nations might hear, and I was freed out of the mouth of a lion,

Il Signore però mi è stato vicino e mi ha fortificato, affinché per mio mezzo la predicazione fosse portata a compimento e tutti i gentili l'udissero; ed io sono stato liberato dalle fauci del leone.

18 a nd the Lord shall free me from every evil work, and shall save -- to his heavenly kingdom; to whom the glory to the ages of the ages! Amen.

Il Signore mi libererà ancora da ogni opera malvagia e mi salverà fino a portarmi nel suo regno celeste. A lui sia la gloria nei secoli dei secoli. Amen.
