1 ` These things I have spoken to you, that ye may not be stumbled,

«Vi ho detto queste cose, affinché non siate scandalizzati,

2 o ut of the synagogues they will put you; but an hour doth come, that every one who hath killed you, may think to offer service unto God;

Vi espelleranno dalle sinagoghe; anzi l'ora viene che chiunque vi ucciderà penserà di rendere un servizio a Dio.

3 a nd these things they will do to you, because they did not know the Father, nor me.

E vi faranno queste cose, perché non hanno conosciuto né il Padre né me.

4 ` But these things I have spoken to you, that when the hour may come, ye may remember them, that I said to you, and these things to you from the beginning I did not say, because I was with you;

Ma vi ho detto queste cose affinché quando sia giunto il momento, vi ricordiate che io ve le avevo dette; or da principio non vi dissi queste cose, perché ero con voi.

5 a nd now I go away to Him who sent me, and none of you doth ask me, Whither dost thou go?

Ma ora vado da colui che mi ha mandato, e nessun di voi mi domanda: "Dove vai?".

6 b ut because these things I have said to you, the sorrow hath filled your heart.

Anzi, perché vi ho detto queste cose, la tristezza ha riempito il vostro cuore.

7 ` But I tell you the truth; it is better for you that I go away, for if I may not go away, the Comforter will not come unto you, and if I go on, I will send Him unto you;

Tuttavia io vi dico la verità: è bene per voi che io me ne vada, perché se non me ne vado, non verrà a voi il Consolatore; ma se me ne vado, io ve lo manderò.

8 a nd having come, He will convict the world concerning sin, and concerning righteousness, and concerning judgment;

E quando sarà venuto, egli convincerà il mondo di peccato, di giustizia e di giudizio.

9 c oncerning sin indeed, because they do not believe in me;

Di peccato, perché non credono in me;

10 a nd concerning righteousness, because unto my Father I go away, and no more do ye behold me;

di giustizia, perché io vado al Padre e non mi vedrete piú;

11 a nd concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world hath been judged.

di giudizio, perché il principe di questo mondo è stato giudicato.

12 ` I have yet many things to say to you, but ye are not able to bear now;

Ho ancora molte cose da dirvi, ma non sono ancora alla vostra portata.

13 a nd when He may come -- the Spirit of truth -- He will guide you to all the truth, for He will not speak from Himself, but as many things as He will hear He will speak, and the coming things He will tell you;

Ma quando verrà lui, lo Spirito di verità, egli vi guiderà in ogni verità, perché non parlerà da se stesso, ma dirà tutte le cose che ha udito e vi annunzierà le cose a venire.

14 H e will glorify me, because of mine He will take, and will tell to you.

Egli mi glorificherà, perché prenderà del mio e ve lo annunzierà.

15 ` All things, as many as the Father hath, are mine; because of this I said, That of mine He will take, and will tell to you;

Tutte le cose che il Padre ha sono mie, per questo ho detto che egli prenderà del mio e ve lo annunzierà.

16 a little while, and ye do not behold me, and again a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go away unto the Father.'

Fra poco non mi vedrete piú; e un altro poco e mi vedrete, perché me ne vado al Padre».

17 T herefore said of his disciples one to another, `What is this that he saith to us, A little while, and ye do not behold me, and again a little while, and ye shall see me, and, Because I go away unto the Father?'

Allora alcuni dei suoi discepoli dissero fra di loro: «Che cosa è questo che egli ci dice: "Fra poco non mi vedrete piú" e: "Un altro poco e mi vedrete": "Perché me ne vado al Padre"?».

18 t hey said then, `What is this he saith -- the little while? we have not known what he saith.'

Dicevano dunque: «Che cosa è questo fra poco di cui parla? Noi non sappiamo quello che vuol dire».

19 J esus, therefore, knew that they were wishing to ask him, and he said to them, `Concerning this do ye seek one with another, because I said, A little while, and you do not behold me, and again a little while, and ye shall see me?

Gesú dunque comprese che lo volevano interrogare e disse loro: «Vi domandate l'un l'altro perché ho detto: "Fra poco non mi vedrete piú" e: "Un altro poco e mi vedrete"?

20 v erily, verily, I say to you, that ye shall weep and lament, and the world will rejoice; and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow joy will become.

In verità, in verità vi dico: voi piangerete e farete cordoglio, e il mondo si rallegrerà. Voi sarete afflitti, ma la vostra afflizione sarà mutata in gioia.

21 ` The woman, when she may bear, hath sorrow, because her hour did come, and when she may bear the child, no more doth she remember the anguish, because of the joy that a man was born to the world.

La donna quando partorisce sente dolore, perché è giunta la sua ora, ma appena ha dato alla luce il bambino, non si ricorda più dell'angoscia per la gioia che è venuto al mondo un essere umano.

22 ` And ye, therefore, now, indeed, have sorrow; and again I will see you, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no one doth take from you,

Così anche voi ora siete nel dolore, ma io vi vedrò di nuovo e il vostro cuore si rallegrerà, e nessuno vi toglierà la vostra gioia.

23 a nd in that day ye will question me nothing; verily, verily, I say to you, as many things as ye may ask of the Father in my name, He will give you;

In quel giorno non mi farete piú alcuna domanda. In verità, in verità vi dico che tutto ciò che domanderete al Padre nel mio nome, egli ve lo darà.

24 t ill now ye did ask nothing in my name; ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

Finora non avete chiesto nulla nel mio nome; chiedete e riceverete, affinché la vostra gioia sia completa.

25 ` These things in similitudes I have spoken to you, but there cometh an hour when no more in similitudes will I speak to you, but freely of the Father, will tell you.

Vi ho detto queste cose in similitudini, ma l'ora viene in cui non vi parlerò piú in similitudini, ma vi parlerò del Padre apertamente.

26 ` In that day, in my name ye will make request, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father for you,

In quel giorno chiederete nel mio nome; e non vi dico che io pregherò il Padre per voi;

27 f or the Father himself doth love you, because me ye have loved, and ye have believed that I from God came forth;

il Padre stesso infatti vi ama, poiché voi mi avete amato e avete creduto che io sono proceduto da Dio.

28 I came forth from the Father, and have come to the world; again I leave the world, and go on unto the Father.'

Io sono proceduto dal Padre e sono venuto nel mondo; di nuovo lascio il mondo e torno al Padre».

29 H is disciples say to him, `Lo, now freely thou dost speak, and no similitude speakest thou;

I suoi discepoli gli dissero: «Ecco, adesso tu parli apertamente e non usi alcuna similitudine.

30 n ow we have known that thou hast known all things, and hast no need that any one do question thee; in this we believe that from God thou didst come forth.'

Ora conosciamo che sai tutto e non hai bisogno che qualcuno ti interroghi; per questo crediamo che sei proceduto da Dio».

31 J esus answered them, `Now do ye believe? lo, there doth come an hour,

Gesú rispose loro: «Credete ora?

32 a nd now it hath come, that ye may be scattered, each to his own things, and me ye may leave alone, and I am not alone, because the Father is with me;

Ecco l'ora viene, anzi è già venuta, in cui sarete dispersi, ciascuno per conto suo, e mi lascerete solo, ma io non sono solo, perché il Padre è con me.

33 t hese things I have spoken to you, that in me ye may have peace, in the world ye shall have tribulation, but take courage -- I have overcome the world.'

Vi ho detto queste cose, affinché abbiate pace in me; nel mondo avrete tribolazione, ma fatevi coraggio, io ho vinto il mondo».
