1 T o the Overseer, for Jeduthun. -- A Psalm of Asaph. My voice to God, and I cry, my voice to God, And He hath given ear unto me.

2 I n a day of my distress the Lord I sought, My hand by night hath been spread out, And it doth not cease, My soul hath refused to be comforted.

Nel giorno della mia avversità ho cercato il Signore, durante la notte la mia mano è rimasta protesa senza stancarsi e l'anima mia ha rifiutato di essere consolata.

3 I remember God, and make a noise, I meditate, and feeble is my spirit. Selah.

Mi ricordo di DIO e gemo; mi lamento e il mio spirito viene meno. (Sela)

4 T hou hast taken hold of the watches of mine eyes, I have been moved, and I speak not.

Tu mantieni aperte le mie palpebre; sono cosí turbato che non posso parlare.

5 I have reckoned the days of old, The years of the ages.

Ripenso ai giorni antichi, agli anni dei tempi passati.

6 I remember my music in the night, With my heart I meditate, and my spirit doth search diligently:

Durante la notte mi ritorna alla mente il mio canto, medito nel mio cuore e il mio spirito investiga.

7 T o the ages doth the Lord cast off? Doth He add to be pleased no more?

Mi rigetterà il Signore per sempre? E non mi gradirà mai piú?

8 H ath His kindness ceased for ever? The saying failed to all generations?

E la sua benignità cessata per sempre e la sua parola venuta meno per le generazioni future?

9 H ath God forgotten favours? Hath He shut up in anger His mercies? Selah.

Ha DIO forse dimenticato di aver pietà e ha nell'ira posto fine alle sue compassioni? (Sela)

10 A nd I say: `My weakness is, The changes of the right hand of the Most High.'

Io ho detto: «Il motivo della mia afflizione è che la destra dell'Altissimo è mutata».

11 I mention the doings of Jah, For I remember of old Thy wonders,

Ricorderò le opere dell'Eterno, sì, ricorderò le tue meraviglie dei tempi passati,

12 A nd I have meditated on all Thy working, And I talk concerning Thy doings.

mediterò su tutte le tue opere e considererò le tue gesta.

13 O God, in holiness Thy way, Who a great god like God?

O DIO, la tua via è santa, quale DIO è grande come DIO?

14 T hou the God doing wonders. Thou hast made known among the peoples Thy strength,

Tu sei il DIO che compie meraviglie tu hai fatto conoscere la tua forza fra i popoli.

15 T hou hast redeemed with strength Thy people, The sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.

Col tuo braccio hai riscattato il tuo popolo, i figli di Giacobbe e di Giuseppe. (Sela)

16 T he waters have seen Thee, O God, The waters have seen Thee, They are afraid -- also depths are troubled.

Le acque ti videro, o DIO, le acque ti videro e furono spaventate, anche gli abissi tremarono.

17 P oured out waters have thick clouds, The skies have given forth a noise, Also -- Thine arrows go up and down.

Le nubi versarono diluvi d'acqua, i cieli tuonarono e le tue saette guizzarono.

18 T he voice of Thy thunder in the spheres, Lightnings have lightened the world, The earth hath trembled, yea, it shaketh.

Il fragore del tuo tuono era nel turbine, i lampi illuminarono il mondo e la terra fu scossa e tremò.

19 I n the sea Thy way, And Thy paths in many waters, And Thy tracks have not been known.

Apristi la tua via in mezzo al mare, il tuo sentiero in mezzo alle grandi acque, e le tue orme non furono riconosciute.

20 T hou hast led as a flock Thy people, By the hand of Moses and Aaron!

Tu guidasti il tuo popolo come un gregge per mano di Mosè e di Aaronne.
